Alegent Health Introduces Design Clinicals' Medstracker Software To Enhance Patient Medication Safety

Alegent Health Introduces Design Clinicals' Medstracker Software To Enhance Patient Medication Safety

Five Alegent Health hospitals implement MedsTracker for electronic medication reconciliation. MedsTracker meets the Joint Commission Patient Safety Goal for medication reconciliation and helps satisfy most of the criteria needed to demonstrate meaningful use and secure ARRA incentive payments and avoid penalties.

Omaha, NE (PRWEB) March 11, 2010

Alegent Health, the largest not-for-profit, faith-based healthcare system in Nebraska and southwestern Iowa, contracted with Design Clinicals, Inc., and has successfully implemented MedsTracker for electronic medication reconciliation. Alegent Health, first in the nation in quality and patient satisfaction according to the Network for Regional Healthcare Improvement (NRHI), has five hospitals in the metro area: Bergan Mercy Medical Center, Lakeside Hospital, Immanuel Medical Center, Mercy Hospital (Council Bluffs, IA) and Midlands Hospital (Papillion, NE). MedsTracker works by capturing a detailed medication history and providing alerts for potential allergy or drug interactions with any change in medication regimen. At every hospital visit, patients receive updated, printed lists of their medications with clear instructions and information. This improves communication and compliance, and saves critical time in emergency situations.

“MedsTracker is a key component of our patient safety strategy,” said Michael Westcott, M. D., chief medical information officer for Alegent Health. “We saw immediate benefit: 100 percent of admissions and discharges were reconciled electronically on day two of go-live.”

Dr. Westcott added, “The software alone is not the solution; it complements what only patients and families can tell us—what medications they currently take, including any herbal supplements or over-the-counter preparations. Our goal is to work closely with patients to ensure we obtain accurate information when they come to us. And now, with each new prescription, our patients receive clear, easy-to-understand printed instructions and information they can take home and refer to as needed. It helps our nurses ensure that patients understand their medications.”

Hospitals around the nation continue to struggle with the issue of medication reconciliation as they move from paper to electronic systems. MedsTracker meets the Joint Commission Patient Safety Goal for medication reconciliation, and also helps satisfy most of the criteria needed to demonstrate meaningful use and secure ARRA incentive payments and avoid penalties.

MedsTracker integrates with existing hospital and clinic systems. The software provides electronically generated safety checks and comprehensive medication lists. It can automatically fax a prescription to a patient’s pharmacy of choice, and eliminates errors due to illegible handwriting. It helps ensure the highest standards of patient medication safety while being user-friendly for physicians and registered nurses.

“With any investment in software, our number one question is always, ‘How will this benefit our patients?’” said Ken Lawonn, senior vice president and chief information officer for Alegent Health. “We want to ensure Alegent Health offers patients the best protection against medication errors, dangerous drug interactions or allergic reactions.”

The 42-page report reflects the macro trends of the healthcare industry through the eyes of thought leaders deeply involved in the field. It also includes the input of a Trender Panel of diverse Americans (and one Canadian) whose perspectives keep the report’s analysis grounded in the lives of average citizens. “The adoption of new technologies in health care is at a turning point in America,” said Trender Research Senior Analyst Joyce Pellino Crane. “But the political, financial and social issues are so complex and intertwined that this teetering transformation is still struggling to hit its stride. The stakes are very high as all parties are looking to technology as a means to corral soaring costs and improve the quality of care.”

In addition to citing industry data and interviewing the thought leaders and the Trender Panel focus group, “Impact! When Healthcare and Technology Collide” provides expert analysis of current events and predicts the major trends. Hypno Design Helps Five Local Non-Profits During Eighth Annual CreateAThon™

Over $32,000 worth of creative services and marketing materials donated

Moorestown, NJ (PRWEB) November 11, 2010

Five non-profit organizations from the Philadelphia/Southern New Jersey region were the beneficiaries of free advertising and marketing services provided by Hypno Design, a Moorestown, New Jersey based marketing and communications firm, through its eighth annual CreateAThon™. During the 24-hour work-around-the-clock effort, the CreateAThon team produced 21 projects valued at more than $32,000. The creative work ranged from logos and branding materials, to brochures and bookmarks, custom illustrations, photography, print advertisements, and even websites.

The 2010 CreateAThon clients included: Treehouse Books; Devereux New Jersey, The Alice Paul Institute; St. Catherine Labouré Medical Clinic; and Habitat for Humanity/Camden Re-Store. These agencies were chosen from more than 75 applications Hypno Design received this year from local non-profits applying for help.

CreateAThon began on Thursday, October 7th, at 8:30AM and ran through until 1PM the next day. Clients starting pouring into Hypno offices at 8:30 on Friday morning to review and proofread the final work. The clients were “blown away” by the strength and quality of the work. “There are not enough words or volumes loud enough to express the gratitude we feel towards you all. We are overwhelmed, to say the least, with the work you did for St. Catherine’s. The quality and creativity of your work is amazing and for sure we would never have been able to accomplish this without all of you and the time you dedicated,” said Cindy Messerle, St. Catherine's Director of Development.

Hypno’s non-profit CreateAThon clients also received professional printing services and paper donated from Burlington Press, of Burlington, New Jersey.

These generous contributions allow us to provide a complete creative solution to our CreateAThon clients,” said Alison Judah, President and CEO of Hypno. “We give them everything they ask for, for their marketing needs, all the way through to the printing of thousands of pieces of print materials, all at no cost. Rich Lewis, the owner of Burlington Press, is very generous, and his people do great work too, printing the designs we come up with for the non-profits.”

Hypno’s CreateAThon output is part of an international effort in which over 19 companies in the US and Canada join efforts to help organizations in their own communities. The total market value of work produced and donated by the international CreateAThon network of agencies this year, is estimated at more than $2.25 million.

Hollywood Beaten To The Punch By A Big Secret

Hollywood Beaten To The Punch By A Big Secret

The first full-screen online pay-per-view movie did not come from a mega-blockbuster Hollywood studio, rather they were beaten to the punch by the little Aussie movie that could, "The Secret." It became an Alexa #1 ranked 'mover and shaker' overnight.

Richmond, Australia (PRWEB) April 11, 2006

Hollywood Studios entered the digital age this week with the announcement that movies such as King Kong and Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire are soon to become available for download on the Internet. However these mega-blockbusters have been beaten to the punch by the little Aussie movie that could, "The Secret."

"The Secret" is making world history and leading the world in technology by becoming the first feature film to be released as a pay-per-view event delivered through the Internet to all points of the globe at once via revolutionary VIVIDAS technology.

VIVIDAS allows "The Secret" to be available direct to almost every computer user on the planet via this brand new, ultra-fast, full-screen video software technology. Unlike inferior technology of the past, viewers do not have to wait for a download and nor will they be expected to view grainy, mid-screen windows.

The Vividas experience takes broadband users into the future. With one click "The Secret" explodes on to the viewer’s computer and plays broadcast quality, full-screen with full stereo sound.

In its first week of release "The Secret" online movie hit number one on the Alexa Movers and Shakers list -- a worldwide report which measures traffic rankings of websites globally.

"The Secret" is a feature length, historic and factually based account of an age old secret, said to be 4000 years in the making, and known only to a fortunate few, amongst them... Einstein, Socrates, Plato, Newton, Shakespeare, Emerson, Edison, Beethoven, Lincoln, Jefferson...

Recorded throughout history by the greatest men and women who lived, this knowledge is described as “the great secret” to wealth, health, relationships, happiness... and "The Secret" to life itself.

For the first time in history the knowledge of "The Secret" is being released to the world in this multi million dollar feature length film.

Prime Time Productions’ principal Rhonda Byrne, creator of "The Secret," says “Feedback from viewers of "The Secret" has been incredibly positive and moving. The knowledge of "The Secret" is lighting up lives across the planet by the second! And the viewing technology is simple and delivers magnificent, high quality images. For most viewers, watching this video will be just like switching on a TV… except the viewer chooses when to watch.”

A single viewing of "The Secret" for US $4.95 is now available at

Www. whatisthesecret. tv

"The Secret" is also available on DVD. Traditional and new media routes such as Cinema, Broadcast Network, Cable and Satellite Television, Podcasting and 3G Services are due to follow, with substantial offers on the table from film distributors, DVD retailers and TV networks. Negotiations continue in several major territories including the USA, Canada, the UK and the People’s Republic of China.

PRIME TIME PRODUCTIONS - is an independent film and television production company based in Melbourne, Australia. Company principal Rhonda Byrne launched Prime Time in 1994, with the objective to produce exceptional quality, commercial film and television with broad audience appeal, giving sustained attention to production values and viewer needs.

Unfortunately due to contractual obligations, viewers in Papua New Guinea, New Zealand and Australia will not be able to view The Secret on Vividas or purchase the DVD at this time.

International Green Apple Award for Irish Construction Company

International Green Apple Award for Irish Construction Company

County Tyrone-based Acheson & Glover has won two top trophies in a leading international environmental award scheme.

(PRWEB) March 5, 2006

County Tyrone-based Acheson & Glover has won two top trophies in a leading international environmental award scheme.

The honours - a gold award and a Green Champion of Ireland trophy - were presented at the National Green Apple Environmental Awards ceremony hosted recently in the Houses of Parliament, London by Health Secretary Patricia Hewitt.

The construction materials manufacturer picked up the gold award for its work in developing an innovative Sustainable Urban Drainage System (SUDS) at its Dungannon plant. The system provides a low-technology method for managing rainfall by replicating natural drainage to prevent pollution, control flooding, recharge groundwater and enhance the environment.

The company won the Green Champion of Ireland trophy for contributing a paper describing a novel recycling project at its sand production facility in Belcoo, County Fermanagh. The project involved the construction of a state-of-the-art recycling plant to convert 40,000 tonnes of lime slurry per year into granulated lime - a commodity much in demand by farmers throughout Europe.

Commenting on Acheson & Glover’s success, the Green Organisation’s National Organiser, Roger Wolens said: "Our objective is not only to recognise and publicise various environmental endeavours, but also to help others follow those examples. "This winning paper will now be published with a selection of others in Green Heroes, the international work of reference on environmental best practice that enables many thousands around the world to learn and benefit from the achievements of our winners,” he said. According to Aaron Currie, Acheson & Glover’s health and safety manager, the double success underlines the strength of the company’s commitment to managing the impact of its business on the environment.

“Having won a number of local awards over the past couple of years, we’re delighted that our dedication to maintaining the highest environmental standards is now being recognised at a national and international level. “We are particularly pleased that our success will be highlighted in the Green Heroes International Work of Reference which is to be distributed to companies, environment professionals and media around the globe,” adds Aaron.

Bird Flu Strategy: Prepare for the Worst, Hope for the Best

Bird Flu Strategy: Prepare for the Worst, Hope for the Best

The ABC-TV drama "Fatal Conflict: Bird Flu in America" showed the world a worst-case scenario in an exaggerated fictional story, but this expert says there is a way for individuals to protect themselves.

Lake Orion, MI (PRWEB) May 14, 2006

The government cannot protect the entire population in the event of an outbreak of bird flu, but there is a way for individuals to easily protect themselves, according to this expert.

The recent ABC-TV drama "Fatal Conflict: Bird Flu in America" has accomplished a good thing, says Tom Peters of Immune Assist 247.

"The show may have exaggerated things for the sake of entertainment, but it certainly did a good job of getting people talking and thinking about this critical issue," said Peters.

Even Health and Human Services Secretary Mike Leavitt watched the show and told ABC News that the country will not have vaccines for at least six months after an outbreak begins.

"Because we have to create a vaccine that is crafted to the individual virus, it will be at least six months before we have a vaccine. We don't have the 300 million courses necessary to give every man, woman and child a course of the vaccine," Leavitt was reported as saying.

Peters warns that the public will suffer needlessly because of the expectation that the government will solve the problem and protect everyone.

"People need to become informed and take their own actions. Bird flu can be prevented without waiting for a government bird flu shot," said Peters.

Bird flu is an infection caused by avian influenza viruses. The H5N1 virus is a subtype of the influenza A virus that occurs in birds.

"Wild birds carry flu viruses in their intestines. Birds get flu viruses almost as commonly as people catch colds. The bird flu is just as contagious between birds as the common cold is among humans. When domesticated birds catch this bird flu, especially chickens, ducks, and turkeys, these birds get very sick and most die because they have less resistance than their wild relatives," explained Peters.

Peters says there are certain facts that virtually all experts agree on. Experts agree that the bird flu has to mutate before it will be a danger to humans, but they also agree that it is inevitable that it will mutate. The experts also agree that no one knows when that will happen, but when it does a world pandemic is likely. As stated by Leavitt, it will take six months or longer to produce a vaccine, and there will not be enough for everyone. Experts agree there is an expected mortality rate of 50 percent or greater.

The World Health Organization has released several reports on this coming pandemic. Their most optimistic scenario is that 2 million people will die worldwide, and the toll could potentially reach 150 million or higher.

Peters says it is easier to prevent the bird flu than to cure it. He has created a web site at http://www. ImmuneAssist247.com (http://www. ImmuneAssist247.com) to inform the public. He offers a product that he claims will enable people to build up their immune system strong enough to fight off the bird flu and other problems as well.

"It is called Immune Assist 247. It is a immune system booster made from a combination of seven medicinal mushroom extracts. It is so effective the government of South Africa has approved its use for HIV treatment. The United Nations is negotiating for 130,000 dosages a day for the foreseeable future," said Peters.
