The MedZilla Report for December 2010 -- Workers Face Tough Holiday Season Amid Job Cuts

The MedZilla Report for December 2010 -- Workers Face Tough Holiday Season Amid Job Cuts

November was a difficult month for employment, with job cuts increasing to their highest levels in months and even the number of new health care jobs backing off a bit. But the highest-impact news came from Great Britain and Australia, where health care workers face big layoffs in the coming months.

(Vocus/PRWEB) December 14, 2010

November was a difficult month for employment, with job cuts increasing to their highest levels in months and even the number of new health care jobs backing off a bit. The U. S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported an increase in the unemployment rate, from 9.6 to 9.8 percent, and the number of people either fired or coming to the end of temporary jobs was up to almost 400,000. Additionally, according to outplacement research firm Challenger, Gray & Christmas, the pace of downsizing was up to its highest level in eight months, with a 28 percent increase in job cuts and almost 5,000 people laid off in the pharmaceutical industry. Health care was up by 19,000 jobs, but the job creation rate was down by almost 20 percent.

"The cynics in the audience have a lot to say about the seemingly-sudden jump in job losses," said Del Johnston, Manager of Client Relations for MedZilla. com, the internet's most established source for health care, pharmaceutical, and biotechnology job postings and information. "They fear that, now that the campaigns are over, the government doesn't have any reason to fight for new jobs." In late November and early December, politicians in Congress fought each other on whether or not unemployment benefits should be extended beyond the 99 weeks unemployed persons are currently eligible to receive (mlive. com, 12/5/10). "Most people on unemployment want to get new jobs," said Johnston," and while some sectors are showing growth -- health care and technology, mostly -- a lot of the jobs that were eliminated over the past three years may remain gone for years to come."

As noted in previous MedZilla reports, hospitals have had to start cutting clinical personnel. One such layoff came from the St. John's Regional Medical Center in Joplin, Mo. (koamtv. com, 11/18/10); fewer than 50 people were laid off. In the pharmaceutical industry, Roche said they would be laying off about 4,800 people worldwide in the coming months (marketwatch. com, 11/17/10). But while the U. S. continues to see positive health care job growth and only small layoffs, providers in Britain and Australia face much larger cuts. As many as 27,000 jobs are slated to be cut across the United Kingdom over the next few years (topnews. co. uk, 11/12/10) -- 3,800 in Wales and 1,600 in Yorkshire alone (yorkshireeveningpost. co. uk, 11/12/10). Also, recent nursing graduates in Scotland have had difficulty finding jobs, even with a program that guarantees them 12 months of work if they cannot find employment on their own (heraldscotland. com, 11/26/10). In Australia, Primary Health Care, a medical and pathology company, planned to eliminate nearly 300 jobs (theaustralian. com. au, 11/13/10) while nurses in New South Wales announced a walkout on November 24 to protest increasing patient-to-caregiver ratios, a walkout endorsed by the doctors' union (news. smh. com. au, 11/23/10).

News outlets seemed to avoid announcements of job creation on the specific level, although several did have positive things to say about health care technology and electronic health records. As the deadline for EHR implementation comes closer, jobs could even be created in traditional tech fields, especially if more companies follow the example of AllScripts in building an open-source solution for EHR technology (forbes. com, 11/19/10). Meanwhile, AT&T and Verizon have both been vague about how much their EHR applications will cost (connectedplanetonline, 11/8/10), although AT&T has come up with a name for theirs: ForHealth (nytimes. com, 11/4/10). "Just as in the computing and cell phone communities, there may be a battle on the horizon pitting big-name companies and their big-name, big-money services against smaller providers," said John Burkhardt, MedZilla's Director of Operations. "However, we don't yet know if you'll be able to move your records from provider to provider as easily as you can change your cell phone or computer operating system. It's unclear how EHR will work at this time."

In the short-term, however, companies were still looking for new employees in November. According to MedZilla, companies in Washington state increased their applicant searches by almost 13 percent, month-to-month, and five other states showed significant increases as well. "We've been seeing job postings and candidate searches showing up with keywords related to diabetes," said Burkhardt, "which may be related to increases in the need for good elder-care and the aging of the U. S. population." Meanwhile, three states -- Florida, New York, and Texas -- showed significant gains in job postings, while only Massachusetts dropped more than one percent. Searches made by applicants remained flat across the board.

"November was a tough month," Johnston said. "Between layoffs, slowdowns in job creation, and the holiday season, job seekers can feel like the whole world is against them. But staying positive and continuing to work the network remains our best advice if you're looking for work." He also suggested slowing some job search activities in the last fifteen and first five days of the year, as the people making employment decisions are likely to be out of the office. "Submit your resume to job boards and apply on company websites, because those all go into a database, but if you plan to engage your network and start sending follow-up e-mails, the last thing you want is for them to get lost in the shuffle."

Harvard University Activists Announce First Nationwide "Feminist Coming Out Day"

Harvard University Activists Announce First Nationwide "Feminist Coming Out Day"

The nationwide event will coincide with International Women's Day on March 8, 2011.

Cambridge, MA (PRWEB) September 29, 2010

After successfully piloting a campuswide Feminist Coming Out Day at Harvard University during the 2009-2010 school year, Lena Chen (Harvard College '10) and Abby Sun (Harvard College '13) will expand the event to high schools and colleges throughout the United States in 2011.

Chen originally conceived of the event when she served as the Women's Events & Outreach Chair of the Queer Students & Allies, the school's undergraduate LGBT organization. Inspired by National Coming Out Day, a holiday which encourages awareness of issues affecting the queer community, Chen planned Feminist Coming Out Day in collaboration with the Radcliffe Union of Students, the feminist student group of which Sun is currently co-president.

The 2010 inaugural event encouraged campus community members to publicly declare their commitment to gender equality through donning apparel and buttons stating "This Is What A Feminist Looks Like". The celebration culminated in a Feminist Portrait Project displaying photos of student leaders, professors, and community members discussing their commitment to feminism. Speaking to The Harvard Crimson (http://www. thecrimson. com/article/2010/3/9/exhibit-feminism-people-feminist/), Sun said of the event, “Feminism is a lifelong pursuit of justice, and a lot of it has to do with spreading awareness. One of the goals of this exhibit is to make feminism a label people are proud of.”

The 2011 Feminist Coming Out Day will once again be celebrated on March 8, International Women's Day, as a call to arms for young people who continue to recognize the need to fight for gender equality. As the organizers of International Women's Day note, "Many from a younger generation feel that 'all the battles have been won for women' while many feminists from the 1970's know only too well the longevity and ingrained complexity of patriarchy... The unfortunate fact is that women are still not paid equally to that of their male counterparts, women still are not present in equal numbers in business or politics, and globally women's education, health and the violence against them is worse than that of men."

Chen notes that there is a great need to include in this battle those who are not part of the heterosexual, middle-class, and White mainstream -- the very women who felt excluded by the second-wave feminist movement. Chen also emphasizes that feminism today is not merely a cause that seeks to benefit women, but is instead a social justice movement seeking to eliminate gender-based roles and expectations for all people. "Norms about masculinity and what constitutes a 'real man' are as harmful and limiting as the traditional stereotypes that surround femininity," she says. "Those who don't opt in -- whether because of their sexuality or their appearance or their career choice -- often face stigmatization or even violence for defying gender roles."

In the upcoming months, Chen and Sun will organize grassroots support among feminist and LGBT student organizations throughout the country. Chen, a well-known blogger who is featured in More Magazine's November 2010 issue on young feminism, says that an integral part of their approach will involve leveraging new and social media, which has been embraced by their generation of activists. By designing a central event website, students will be able to collaborate with each other to brainstorm, plan, and publicize events on their respective campuses. The website will also feature testimonials from young activists on the issues that led to their individual feminist awakenings.

Optical Image Technology Announces Two Additions to DocFinity® Suite of Products

Optical Image Technology Announces Two Additions to DocFinity® Suite of Products

New products will assist organizations in better leveraging applications

State College, PA (PRWEB) February 19, 2004 -

–Optical Image Technology, Inc. (OIT), developer of the award-winning DocFinity® Suite of Products, is proud to introduce the DocFinity Dashboard and DocFinity Reports modules. These new products are designed to enhance an organization’s ability to observe system performance and critical functions related to user logons, databases, application status, executables, drive space and event logs.

Scott M. F. Buchart, President and CEO of OIT, comments, “We’re very excited about the new capabilities the DocFinity Dashboard and DocFinity Reports brings our users. From a single point of access, they can closely monitor system performance and easily identify issues within a system before a crisis occurs.”

The DocFinity Dashboard allows system administrators to monitor overall system status, at a glance, from a Web browser. Throughout the day, the software will take readings of the system and indicate whether or not everything is functioning properly. If there is a problem in the system, the screen will turn red. The program also has the ability to alert administrators if a pre-programmed critical error is detected. In this event, the system can automatically e-mail, call or page administrators, ensuring a timely correction to the error.

The DocFinity Reports module provides administrators the ability to receive real time statistics related to system performance through a standard Web browser. This allows for a quick and easy solution to monitor the status of critical system functions, including workflow, user and database functions. The DocFinity Reports module includes pre-built reporting tools that can automatically generate reports in real time. Information gathered by the DocFinity Reports module is then presented to administrators in a graphical format.

Buchart adds, “System performance is perhaps one of the most critical aspects of an organization’s daily operations. A system slowdown can potentially cost an organization thousands of dollars in lost revenue. The DocFinity Dashboard and DocFinity Reports modules help OIT customers proactively monitor functions before they result in a slowdown.”

For more information regarding the DocFinity Dashboard and DocFinity Reports modules, please visit www. docfinity. com or contact Courtney Leigh Beisel at cbeisel@docfinity. com or 814-238-0038, ext. 253.

Derick Thomas the owner and founder states that it is amazing how the body is designed, once balance is achieved the body automatically begins to look for anything that would throw it off of balance and eliminate from it the body.

"The first comments were simply that people noticed a difference in their energy, they weren't tired anymore. Then as a few weeks passed they were noticing weight loss, some to the point of losing 20 lbs of weight that hadn't come off with other diets. The real excitement came as clients came in stating changes in health. One of my first juicing clients came in with the news that her doctor wanted to know what she had been doing, she had a history of high blood pressure and it was all of a sudden consistently normal. As each day passed, they kept coming in, one lady had diabetes, and no longer has to take any medication at all, another came in that couldn’t clap her hands without pain, while another noticed a change in her knee joints the first week on the program. We have had success after success and it is truly amazing to hear. We started immediately having people write down what their ailments were so we could celebrate with them and so they could see for themselves what they were no longer battling or dealing with." Derick says.

JuiceBlasters has had such a success with JuiceMaid they are taking it "to the streets" as one would say, and premiering its "national" program on well known auction site EBAY. "We want to offer it at a low affordable price and avail it to as many people as possible", Derick states.

There have been so many diet programs come and go, and with JuiceMaid, it's not really a diet program. It's really a change in lifestyle that can truly add years to a life. The great thing is that the goal was not really losing weight, but it happened."

JuiceBlasters is also licensing the JuiceMaid program to Juice Bars around the country, offering increased traffic, higher profits and wider customer base.

The JuiceMaid program is really not complex, and JuiceBlasters helps with detailed information every step of the way. The key to the whole program is the customized juice plan, the nutritional analysis and the personal service from live people who care. They send out emails on breaking news in the health industry weekly.

Their EBAY venture is proving to be a success and they are anticipating a huge growth in clientele. You can view their store at http://stores. ebay. com/JuiceBlasters (http://stores. ebay. com/JuiceBlasters) or go to their website at www. juiceblasters. com

Feng Shui Consultant Gives a Northern Exposure to his Southern and West Coast Expertise

Trained in Los Angeles and having gained his experience in the Atlanta area, Philippe Nicolitch moves to Montreal and brings his Traditional Feng Shui expertise to Montreal, Canada.

Montreal, Canada (PRWEB) November 16, 2004

To most people, Feng Shui often brings to mind New Age mood music, lucky bamboo and zen decoration. When studied deeper however, Feng Shui is the ancient Chinese practice of working with time, space and buildings to determine the auspicious and inauspicious areas within a home or office. Once these are determined, a Traditional Feng Shui consultant will recommend to use the space based on the needs of the owner. For example a relaxing area prone to good health would be ideal for a bedroom, while weÂ’d recommend an office to be located in a part of the house favorable to business prosperity. Remedies based on the five elements (water, wood, fire, earth, and metal) are often part of the recommendations, as they help neutralize the less auspicious energy combinations.

The west cost of the US and Canada is very familiar with Feng Shui basics. Most architects would not consider building a new house without the recommendations of a Feng Shui expert. North-easterners are traditionally more reserved towards alternative approaches, but based on success stories and word of mouth, Feng Shui is becoming a growing part of the environment.

Philippe Nicolitch is a Traditional Feng Shui consultant located in Montreal, Canada who offers consultations for homes and businesses in Quebec, Ontario, and the US Northeast. He is a graduate student from the American Feng Shui Institute in Los Angeles, CA under the direction of Master Larry Sang whose “work is recognized globally by clients, students, other Feng Shui practitioners, Fortune 500 companies and governments, from Asia to the United States”.

Iverson Genetic Diagnostics Offers FDA Cleared Warfarin Test: Genetic Testing Is Critical to Two Million Warfarin Patients at Risk of Side Effects Each Year

Iverson Genetic Diagnostics Offers FDA Cleared Warfarin Test: Genetic Testing Is Critical to Two Million Warfarin Patients at Risk of Side Effects Each Year

Iverson Genetic Diagnostics, Inc. announced today that it offers physicians and their patients two types of molecular-based assays for testing warfarin (brand name, Coumadin) sensitivity. One has received Food and Drug Administration clearance and genetically tests a patient's blood for this sensitivity, with results returned in 2-5 days. The second assay tests a sample of the patient's saliva and requires only one to two days before test results are made available.

SEATTLE (PRWEB) March 5, 2008

In August, the FDA updated labeling on warfarin, the oral anticoagulant most frequently used to control and prevent thromboembolic disorders, indicating that people with variations of the genes CYP2C9 and VKORC1 may respond differently to the drug. FDA black box warnings flag physicians that patients over 65 years of age carry a higher risk for bleeding and require special vigilance. This information, combined with several clinical studies, has encouraged physicians to recommend genetic testing to better support determining a patient's optimal dose, since too high of a dose contributes to life-threatening bleeding, and too low places the patient at risk of life-threatening blood clots. Iverson utilizes software based on dosing algorithms to automate the reporting process and more effectively support the dosing evaluation.

Testing and close monitoring is critical to over two million patients who are prescribed warfarin (Coumadin) in the U. S. each year due to a high incidence of side effects, many that are life-threatening. Because warfarin is the second most common drug, after insulin, that is implicated in emergency room visits for adverse drug reactions, patients require close monitoring with routine adjustments to their dosing throughout their entire lives.

The Wall Street Journal reports that 85,000 serious bleeding events and 17,000 strokes a year could be prevented using genetic testing, saving $1.1 billion a year.

In addition, Iverson also offers FDA cleared Factor II and Factor V assays for diagnosing thrombophilia, plus Human Papillomavirus (HPV) genotyping, as well as a number of other tests that are frequently prescribed. Soon to be offered will be a Tamoxifen Responsiveness Panel and a Cervical Cancer Risk Stratification Panel.

Based in the Institute for Systems Biology (ISB) in Seattle, Iverson Genetic Diagnostics is committed to a goal held in common with other leading researchers and scientists, including institute founder and visionary, Leroy Hood, Ph. D., M. D. in expanding the use of genetic diagnostics into personalized medicine.

"We share a vision with Dr. Hood to move the healthcare model to a more focused information model based on Preventative, Personalized, Predictive and Participatory medicine," stated Dean Sproles, President and CEO of Iverson Genetic Diagnostics. "Iverson tests will provide a 'genetic roadmap' for both patients and physicians to better understand and shape healthcare options going forward."

Iverson Genetic Diagnostics provides genetic testing services nationwide with service representatives calling on physicians and clinics in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana and Alaska. With a CLIA laboratory and MTS (Medical Testing Site) certification for high complexity molecular genetic testing, Iverson has the capacity for processing 17,500 tests per month.

Morehead Presents Webinar on "He Said...She Said: How Gender Differences Impact Physician Engagement&quot

Morehead Presents Webinar on "He Said...She Said: How Gender Differences Impact Physician Engagement"

This is Part II of II Part Webinar Series on "How Generation and Gender Impact Physician Engagement"

Charlotte, N. C. (Vocus) April 7, 2009

Morehead, the human capital research firm, will host a webinar titled "He Said...She Said: How Gender Differences Impact Physician Engagement." The free hour-long webinar will be broadcast on Thursday, April 30, 2009 at 1:00 p. m. EST.

In this second of a two-part webinar series, David Rowlee, Ph. D., Morehead's Vice President, Physician Research Services, and Brad Morton, Morehead's Vice President, Product Management and Physician Surveys, will discuss how gender factors impact physician engagement. Research confirms a meaningful connection between physicians' job satisfaction, their loyalty to the health system, and level of engagement. Not surprisingly, male and female physicians see the world differently in many ways, especially in how they perceive nurses, hospital administration, hospitalists, and work-life balance. In order to engage both genders, hospitals must understand these differences and how to address them.

In this webcast, participants will learn:
how gender significantly impacts the attitudes that physicians maintain toward hospital leadership, patient care and operational aspects of hospitals  how an individual hospital can assess the attitudinal differences of all physicians and develop systemic strategies to embrace physicians of both genders  the drivers of physician loyalty for different gender groups  how building and sustaining loyalty with both gender groups drive hospital revenue

To sign up for the free hour-long webinar, visit http://moreheadassociates. com/events/registration/event91.html.

Diabetes May Lead to Erectile Dysfunction

Diabetes May Lead to Erectile Dysfunction

(PRWEB) September 10, 2005

Researchers have established that a diabetes patient is more prone to succumb to erectile dysfunction than a normal person. Erectile Dysfunction besides diabetes can prove a disastrous combination that can have an impending effect on the psychological and physical well being of a man's life. Men who are having erectile dysfunction problem may became so concerned with the inadequacy that they try to avoid the sexual situation altogether. Same time it increases the stress level, frustration and can trigger a bout of depression.

It is estimated that more than 50% diabetic patient are suffering from ED. Erectile Dysfunction occur at younger age. Within 10 yrs of the diagnosis of the disease trait of ED begin to surface, although not all diabetics develop ED.

Why the diabetics are easy prey to Erectile Dysfunction? Men endowed with healthy blood vessel, nerves, male Harmon and “desire” to perform gets the erection on wish. Diabetes can kill blood vessels and nerves that make the erection possible. Therefore even the normal amount of male hormones and desire to have sex can not help getting a firm erection.

Medical people believe that presence of a blood sugar in diabetic prove an impediment to the enzyme that start the series of events which lead to erection.

Endothelial nitric acid syntheses (eNOs) enzyme considered responsible to start the chain of vascular events that produce and sustain erection. Enzyme (eNOs) cause the release of Nitric Oxide at the nerve ending in penis. The initial release of NO get a quick and short duration increase in penile blood flow it also cause short time relaxation in penile muscle to get an erection. Enhanced penile blood vessel and smooth penile muscle relaxation increase the blood flow in penis which results in erection.

When blood sugar O-GLcNac present in hyper glycemic(high blood sugar) circumstances interrupt eNOs enzyme this may cause permanent penile impairment over time.

A patient of diabetes should always take extra care to understand the complexities of his health psychosexual counseling is mandatory in these situations. Sexual therapy is vital for people with diabetes, since the chronic condition is fraught with situational stresses, performance anxiety, and problems in relationships.

A range of different modes of medication are available for the diabetics. Penile injection or vacuum erection device therapy has been used by many patients with satisfaction. A penile prosthesis was certainly a viable option in these individuals should they fail those therapies or wish to go directly to penile prosthesis. Obviously one must bear in mind that diabetics have a higher incidence of infection and thus they should be counseled in that regard. Sildenafil is also proving a good source that diabetics can look up to.

Long Island College Hospital Takes Over 2 Megawatts Off the Grid

Long Island College Hospital Takes Over 2 Megawatts Off the Grid

Buffalo, NY (Vocus) June 9, 2008

As part of their commitment to Energy Curtailment Specialists (http://www. ecsny. com/)' (ECS) PowerPay! New York demand response (http://www. ecsny. com/) program, Long Island College Hospital (LICH) of Brooklyn has agreed to curtail 1200 kilowatts when the demand for electricity exceeds the amount available.

On March 27, 2008, LICH was called upon by ECS to shed those 1200 kilowatts for a "test event." The hospital went above and beyond by curtailing 2120 kilowatts; 920 kilowatts more than expected. The hospital's success is due in part to the hospital-wide notification system implemented prior to an event. Also, due to the requirements needed to test the generators for reliability on an ongoing basis, performing these tests during a critical peak demand on the grid is a natural way LICH has incorporated them into this program.

"We performed so successfully due to the participation of everyone in the entire hospital," said Ralph Gambardella, chief engineer at Long Island College Hospital. "We installed systems so the hospital equipment is not interrupted during the changeover to the generator."

When the doctors, nurses, and other staff are notified of the event, they may shut off lights when a room is not in use as part of their own commitment to reducing electricity.

"Long Island College Hospital is an ideal customer for our program because they are so motivated to help within the community all while taking the necessary precautions to assure patient safety," said Glen Smith, president, chief executive officer and co-founder of ECS.

Since becoming enrolled in ECSÂ’ program, the hospital has become more energy efficient. As part of their continuous improvement for emergency preparedness, they have included a section in the training manual for new employees titled "How to Save Energy."

In 2008, Long Island College Hospital celebrated its 150th year of service to Brooklyn and is pleased to be able to attribute part of its success to new initiatives, including ECS' PowerPay! New York program.

"We are able to continually improve patient safety, due to ECSÂ’ program," said Gambardella.

A Must Read For All Healthcare Professionals is the Healthcare Provider Peer Review 2nd Edition, 2006

A Must Read For All Healthcare Professionals is the Healthcare Provider Peer Review 2nd Edition, 2006

Research and Markets (researchandmarkets. com/reports/c40992) has announced the addition of Healthcare Provider Peer Review 2nd Edition, 2006 to their offering.

Dublin (PRWEB) August 25, 2006

Research and Markets (http://www. researchandmarkets. com/reports/c40992 (http://www. researchandmarkets. com/reports/c40992)) has announced the addition of Healthcare Provider Peer Review 2nd Edition, 2006 to their offering.

Peer review is a process where selected members of the medical or other professional staff review the basic qualifications (credentials), medical outcomes and professional conduct of other physician or licensed professional members and staff applicants to determine whether the professional may practice or continue to practice in the hospital or other clinical setting and, if so, to determine the parameters of their practice.

This report provides information and tools needed for an effective peer review program by any medical organization - includes policies & procedures, competency and behavioral assessment tools and strategies, Committee structure, medical staff resources, legal resources and web links. Managing the disruptive physician or other healthcare provider is a renewed JCAHO focus in 2006. Extensive references, resources.

Peer review is integrally intertwined with the credentialing, recredentialing and the granting of privileges processes as well as case reviews that may occur in the usual course of case management, utilization management, appeals or processing of complaints and incident reports. Although most peer review occurs in a hospital setting, increasingly peer review is conducted by larger practices, contracting health care organizations such as HMOs, and other healthcare provider entities. Typically, a Credentialing Committee is responsible for routine credentialing, recredentialing and the granting of privileges, while a second Committee, usually more restricted in terms of size and membership, is the Peer Review Committee, sometimes termed a ‘Wellness’ Committee or another euphemism. Issues that surface during routine credentialing, recredentialing and granting of privileges processes may be referred to the Peer Review Committee for investigation and recommendations (often then forwarded to the Board of Directors instead of back to the Credentialing Committee – the process is determined by the bylaws).

The reviewers and the physician or licensed professional staff under review should have the same general professional qualifications, be credentialed and licensed to practice (i. e., physicians review physicians with at least one physician from the same specialty, psychologists review psychologists, etc.). Reviews must be based on nationally recognized standards of care.

The functions of the Peer Review Committee, similar to Quality Assurance/Improvement Committees, are usually protected by federal and state laws that provide immunity from damage claims and shield many materials from discovery. In fact, peer review is very much a quality assurance process needed to ensure that patients using the services of a medical group or hospital/other facility receive care by qualified and unimpaired health care providers. Some larger organizations, may have Peer Review Committees organized within each department as part of the Quality Management/Improvement function, reporting to an Executive Committee or the Board of Directors as outlined in the bylaws.

It is recommended that Peer Review Committees report, directly or indirectly, to governance and, that in most cases, legal counsel regularly attend meetings of any Committee involved in the peer review process.

Philders Group International Inc Goes to Work in NYC

Philders Group International Inc Goes to Work in NYC

Philders Group International Inc announces the opening of a new office in New York City to facilitate its work with the Environmental Contractors Association to improve the quality of indoor air in health care facilities.

Orlando, Fl (Vocus/PRWEB) December 23, 2010

Philders Group International Inc is pleased to announce that it has opened an office in New York City, on the 46th floor at 140 Broadway. The additional office, which opened its doors on 1 December, will facilitate the work of the Linders Health Institute™ in the New York City area, where they will continue to address health and safety issues associated with health care construction activities.
The move further emphasizes the health threat from invisible but deadly microbes and pathogens in indoor air. On September 27, Marlene Linders, Executive Director at the Linders Health Institute™ and CEO of Philders Group International, appeared before the New York City Council’s Committee on Environmental Protection in support of the Environmental Contractors Association.
Ms. Linders identified skills and competencies expected of contractors that help them deal with microbes in the indoor environment. The hearing underscores the city’s concern for the health and safety of workers and residents, and demonstrates how important it is to recognize the threat of illness and disease posed by pathogens that lurk unseen. Research at the CDC shows the cost of airborne pathogens is staggering.

Chairman James F. Gennaro, of District 24, is guiding the committee and the New York City Council in an effort to set uniform standards for indoor air quality to reduce the risk level for all. Councilman Gennaro is currently serving his third term on the city council. In addition to his other duties, he serves as Chairman of the New York City Council’s Committee on Environmental Protection. Councilman Gennaro has had a hand in creating many of the city’s important environmental bills. He has been instrumental in the push to reduce the city’s environmental footprint and limit emissions that contribute to global warming with clean electric power, reduced pesticide use, and alternative energy vehicles.

Wedding Planner Launches Information Site

Wedding Planner Launches Information Site

A ghostwriter and wedding planner teamed up to launch a wedding tips site for brides, grooms, and anyone with a wedding in their future. Free lessons are posted daily and visitors are encouraged to make direct requests for articles.

Dallas, Texas (PRWEB) May 10, 2006

Weddings Made to Order has launched a free wedding planning site at http://www. WeddingSocieties. com (http://www. WeddingSocieties. com) where brides can check in daily for new lessons.

The site, created by Tiffany Dow and her behind-the-scenes best friend who happens to be a wedding planner in Dallas, Texas, has drawn a healthy dose of traffic from brides looking for tips on how to save money, deal with the stress, and make choices they won’t regret.

“We started with a few ideas like having wedding planning software and personal wedding pages for each bride,” says Dow. “But ultimately, we decided that most brides were just looking for advice, so we’ll let other sites like weddingchannel and theknot give them a forum to register for their gifts and build an online wedding pages – we just want to provide valuable information.”

“Creating the articles takes time,” says the site’s in-house professional wedding planner. “If we offered the other bells and whistles, it would take time away from creating the wedding planning lessons.”

Tiffany relies on her professional wedding planner to answer the tough questions brides have about preparing for their special day. “A bride will email me with a question and I’ll tap my resource to get the answers and then write an article on it – because if one bride has that question, it’s a sure bet other brides do, too.”

The site is promising to deliver at least two new articles per day. While the women decided against online bridal registries and individual pages, they did create a community of wedding chat rooms and message boards for anyone associated with weddings – including the engaged couple, in-laws, wedding party attendants, and even wedding vendors.

“Our #1 goal is to be the best wedding planning resource on the ‘net,” says Tiffany. “If we can be there for a bride, then we’ve just made her once-in-a-lifetime day more special. You can contact Tiffany by email to request a particular article on any wedding-related topic. Within a day or two, your article should show up.

Adult Adoptee's Demand Their Original Birth Certificates

Adult Adoptee's Demand Their Original Birth Certificates

A national petition is circulating calling for federal intervention that to mandate that all adult adopted persons throughout the United States have the same access to their original birth certificates as those not adopted.

(PRWEB) November 8, 2002

Please support and promote this petition:

Adult Adoptees are an invisible minority. They inhabit 10% of the world's population, are young and old, blend into every race, are comprised of both men and women, heterosexual and homosexual, yet they are denied the most fundamental rights of all, true identity and heritage. Adult adoptees are treated like children by all but four of the United States. We hope to change that, with your help.

There are only 4 states in the USA (Alabama, Alaska, Kansas, and Oregon) that provide adoptees unconditional access to their original birth certificates. Allow me to explain the problem. When a closed adoption occurs, the original birth certificate is sealed and hidden. Some adoptees after 1983 enjoyed open adoptions, but the majority of adoptions are still closed. A fictionalized birth certificate with a new name, new parents and false delivery physician signatures is what adoptees are permitted to access through vital statistics. Adoptees have no access to medical records, ethnic heritage, or a consistent biological history.

A petition has been developed to bring awareness to legislators and the public by insisting that adoptees in all 50 states plus the District of Columbia, at or over that state's age of majority, and by the adoptee's choice, may possess their original birth certificates. Slavery was abolished with a constitutional amendment, and it was through an amendment that women were empowered to vote. Please sign this petition that demands an "Adoptees' Amendment", and help restore an invisible minority to equal status. "All men were created equal..." yet under the current political climate, adoptees are not.

The Constitution records that all citizens have the right to life. It also states that all persons have their rights to property. By denying Adoptee's their Original Birth certificates, medical records, and other adoption information, the State Governments are denying adoptee's their rights to property. They are being denied access to, or possession of, the Original Birth Certificates, and personal medical records that every other citizen in this country is entitled to. They are therefore suffering discrimination as a class of citizen and their Civil Rights are being denied them. Many adoptees are being denied their right to LIFE because they are refused necessary medical information that is relevant to their health and welfare. This information which provides them with genetic predisposition to diseases that may cause harm to their lives is not accessible to the adopted person, in preference of closed adoption records.

The United States of America has not ratified the United Nations' "Convention of the Child", which includes international law regarding the sale of children, as well as on the involvement of children in armed conflict. Out of all the countries in the world, the USA remains one of three countries, together with Somalia and Timor-Leste (which newly became a country in September of 2002), that is not a party to this human rights treaty.

Civil Rights for Adoptees in America is about Human Rights that all Americans should care about. Please join the thousands of other citizens who would like to see an end to the unconstitutional treatment of adoptees as separate and unequal. Please visit the web address below. It will take you to the petition, which can be signed, online. When you are through, please consider referring others to the petition.

Democracy In Crisis!

Democracy In Crisis!

New Artwork, Propaganda and Sloganeering by David "Tree" Conley Opening Reception, Thursday, June 24th, 7 p. m. Paradise Lounge Gallery

Boston, MA (PRWEB) June 11, 2004

The Paradise Lounge Gallery announces the upcoming dual exhibit: Democracy In Crisis!, new artwork, sloganeering and propaganda by David “Tree” Conley and Headaches and Heartbreaks, new serigraphs by Peter Cardoso. The exhibit will show June 24 through August 10 and the opening reception (sponsored by Stuff at Night) is Thursday, June 24th at 7 p. m.

Democracy In Crisis, David Conley’s newest work, features political propaganda reflecting his anger and frustration surrounding President George W. Bush’s current republican office. The exhibit will feature campaign signs, posters and t-shirts with slogans silk-screened “a-la-Tree.” From “Black Eye For The White Guy” to “Deserter!” these phrases support Conley’s hope of a democratic presidency in 2004, all under the umbrella “CRUSH BUSH 2004.” These graphic statements have recently awarded him a political column, weekly in The Boston Phoenix, called The Critical I.

Conley, known as “a renegade performer” and “a working-class hero,” has “brazenly worn his heart on his sleeve, and boldly pat his eco-conscious, anti-establishment opinions,” says The Boston Herald. Interested in all things printed, he immersed himself in the “science of printing,” studying photography at Museum School and working at commercial screen-printing shops.

His left wing, environmentalism and social justice have consistently appeared in his music and visual art. From his anti - Gulf War silk-screened posters, to soft-core pornography, ConleyÂ’s art always provokes, pokes, and argues.

“For David Conley,” says The Boston Globe, “creating art ranks right up there with eating and breathing. It definitely ranks higher than making money.”

“Making art is my being political and creative at the same time,” bouts Conley. “Everyday justice and survival are interwoven. We can’t ignore politics. How can we ignore where the money goes? Our society is “enslaved by the wage.” More money goes into the military than anything – healthcare and education fail.”

Conley’s Rise And Fall Of Mankind, a “wall of doors” questioning violence and self-destruction of the human race, is currently part of the large-scale group sculpture show, Between Rock And An Art Place, Part 2, installed outdoor on Boston Common (Parade Common) as part of First Night Boston 2004, and now on exhibit at The Zeitgeist Gallery in Cambridge. He is joined by other visual artists/musicians: Winston Bramen, Joseph Pesce, Wayne Viens and Asa Brebner. [firstnight. org] [zeitgeist-gallery. com]

Conley, a multi-talented artist, studied at The Museum School in Boston. He works in mediums of photography, painting, sculpture and silkscreen. He showed this past year at The Oni Gallery (Chinatown) and The Paradise Lounge Gallery (Boston).

According to Conley, “artwork is my weapon against ignorance and oppression, and my saving grace for lack of religious faith. Art is evidence of my existence.”

He creates art from found objects (more commonly known as trash), and “breathes new life into them, raising recycling to an art form.” Conley, often known for selling his work at quite reasonable prices, does so because “my art is for everyone, not just for those who can afford it. People can’t live without art. I try to sell my art inexpensively, so it can get to people’s walls, where it finds real value.”

David Conley was born in Mission Hill, grew up in Westwood, and is also front man for socio-political hard-core musical group Drug War. According to The Boston Phoenix, Drug War is “mysterious and unnerving ‘80s-style hardcore-agit-punk outfit.” Previous, Conley fronted the well-known in-your-face punk group Tree. He has shown at The Boston Center for the Arts, Designs for Living, Chelsea City Café and Clarke Gallery. Conley lives in Somerville. [crushbush. com]

Headaches and Heartbreaks marks the first public showing of Pete Cardoso’s solo fine art serigraphs. The images, hand-screened, are one-of-a-kind prints, large in scale, filled with vibrant color, line and emotion. According to Cardoso, “this was a purging experience. We all deal with pain in different ways this was just one outlet.” This body of work, silk screen on wood varies in size, color and shape. Some images exhibit series. “I like multiples. In this show, there are a few images that are two-to-four separate works that make up one whole piece. They all have at least one with a variation in it that makes a more personal statement for the overall piece.

Pete Cardoso grew up in Providence, RI, watching a lot of sit-com tv, and drawing ever since he could hold a crayon. He studied at Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) and started screen-printing in his parents’ basement. “You can smell the ink years after the paper’s printed,” says Cardoso. “You can feel it, you can notice the vibrant colors right away. Digital printing can’t touch it.”

Cardoso is a top-notch designer and screen printer, and runs his own studio in Pawtucket, RI, Ghost Town. His clients include Rancid, The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Paul Westerberg, The Streetdogs, WBRU radio and Epitaph Records and Vagrant Records. His hand-screened work has appeared in Spin, Rolling Stone, Alternative Press, Punk Planet and on MTV, HBO and ABC. He has shown solo and with groups throughout the U. S., Europe and Japan-- and shared walls with leading pop artists Shepard “Obey Giant” Fairey, Derek Hess and Frank Kozik.

Presently, Cardoso is creating public works of art for the city of Providence, and preparing for his solo serigraph show upcoming this May in Boston. He also teaches silk-screen printing at AS220 in Providence and his artwork is part of permanent collection at RISD Museum.

Named one of the top-ten most influential artists in the Phoenix 2003 Poll, Cardoso lives in Providence. CardosoÂ’s artistic goals include painting Paris Hilton naked, and selling it on EBAY for 100-grand. [ghost-town. net]

Currently on display is THE BEST SEAT IN TOWN, Original Toilet Seat Art Designed by Boston’s Creatives, featuring new artwork on actual toilet seats. The Best Seat followed Emergence: Female Artists on the Rise, with new work by Jyll Ethier, Stephanie Horne, Christine Navin and Hanna Sandstrom-Barton. This 4-woman exhibit followed Outsider Inside, featuring new artwork by New York painter, Steve Keene. The exhibit featured 44 new paintings, a-la-Keene, originals, assembly-line style. Often a subject of the age-old controversial struggle between “art and commerce,” Brooklyn-based, Yale-educated Keene has shown throughout the globe, and sold nearly 200,000 paintings. According to The Los Angeles Times, “Keene takes the popular accessibility of Warhol’s mass-produced images to the next level.”

The Paradise Lounge began its gallery showing of visual arts in November 2002, with Infections, the visual art of former Weezer bassist, Mikey Welsh. Other shows have included Between Rock and an Art Place, Part 2, celebrating visual art by musicians; Paradise Found, concert posters celebrating 25 years of rock history and Manifestations of the Discarded, found and recycled art sculpture by Asa Brebner and Wayne Viens. In 2003, The Paradise Rock Club toted its 25th-year anniversary, as it continues to prove one of the best live music venues in the country.

Newly renovated, and under new management, The Paradise Lounge is a rock & roll bar/lounge with a new restaurant element. It is open nightly at 5 p. m., providing a unique space to dine or lounge before a show, catering to patrons with a love of all things music/art. The Paradise Lounge is located at 967 Commonwealth Avenue in Boston. It is accessible via the Green Line on the MBTA. Metered parking is also available in the area. The reception is open to the public, and artists will be in attendance. Artwork shown is also available for purchase unless otherwise noted. Paradise Lounge Information 617.562.8814. [thedise. com]. Milwaukee Boot Camp Instructor Costs Health Clubs Millions of Dollars This Holiday Season

Local Milwaukee boot camp instructor and fat loss expert warns Milwaukee citizens not to waste their money on overpriced personal training this New Year by using his holiday damage control strategies.

Milwaukee, WI (PRWEB) November 5, 2008

Local Milwaukee personal trainer and fat loss expert BJ Gaddour, CSCS, YFS is the founder of Get Sexy Boot Camps, a local Milwaukee fitness boot camp. The average American gains five to ten plus pounds in the holiday months of November and December, a big reason for the surge in personal training purchases every New Year. This Milwaukee boot camp will be providing a free Holiday Survival Kit and Seminar that shares some secret training and nutrition strategies to save your waistline and your bank account this holiday season.

Gaddour is already well known for his nationally renowned 30-minute express rapid fat loss boot camp workouts for only a third the cost of typical one-on-one personal training in Milwaukee. But he is taking his mission of affordable results one step further this holiday season to help you save your waistline and your bank account from undue stress. Gaddour states "Right now many people are in the midst of a massive Halloween hangover that is a pretty scary slippery slope. Having already slammed down all of those tasty eats and treats, the big Thanksgiving turkey dinner is right around the corner and so is the hustle and bustle of holiday shopping that leaves a host of available excuses to eat poorly and miss workouts. As a result, people gain weight and then feel the need to spend tons of money paying overpriced personal trainers to fix the damage in January. But don't worry, we've got your back this holiday season!"

Gaddour has put together "The Ultimate Holiday Survival Kit: Simple Training and Nutrition Tips to Save Your Waistline This Holiday Season!" This kit provides a tried and proven blueprint for much needed damage control this holiday season that he has used with great success for his hundreds of clients. It features the exact workout and nutrition e-books that Gaddour hands out to all of his boot camp clients every holiday season. Plus, Gaddour even provides a special audio recording of a holiday survival roundtable that he put together with some of the world's best fat loss experts where literally every hot button fitness topic was covered. "We have literally provided every key resource to help people walk into the New Year without that dreaded spare tire. Now it's up to them to actually follow it and put this plan into action," says Gaddour.

To make it easier to follow, Gaddour is offering his popular Holiday Survival Seminar to any interested local Milwaukee businesses, clubs, or organizations. The event will feature sample five-minute total body fat burning workouts taken straight out of the workout e-book plus a bunch of real world eating strategies to battle the bulge. Gaddour's music interval training system is scientifically proven to burn nine times more fat than ordinary exercise. To make the fitness event more festive Gaddour and his Workout Muse partner and head sound designer Topher Farrell have put together some custom audio interval training soundtracks featuring holiday-themed workout music. "The key to a healthy lifestyle is looking for every possible opportunity to have fun with your fitness routine," says Gaddour. "People love holiday-themed music so we're going to crank it to holiday workout music to put a seasonal twist on our workouts!"

Gaddour is already booked for his Holiday Survival Seminar on Thursday, November 20th at 7 pm at the Franklin Public Library on the south side of Milwaukee. The event is open to the public.
