Department of Defense Grants Inologic $1.1M to Develop Radioprotective "Morning After" Pill

Department of Defense Grants Inologic $1.1M to Develop Radioprotective "Morning After" Pill

Inologic, a Seattle biopharmaceutical company, has received a Department of Defense grant for nearly $1.1 million to develop a radioprotective drug that could either act before radiation exposure to protect the body from radiation damage or act as a type of "morning after" drug and help repair damage once it has occurred. The drug could potentially protect U. S. troops and protect or treat the public if exposed to radioactive material. In light of recent events such as the public health scare associated with the radiation contamination of ex-Russian spy Alexander Litvinenko, who died of exposure to the radioactive material polonium-210, the availability of such a radioprotective drug could have significant health benefits.

Seattle, WA (PRWEB) January 22, 2007

Inologic, an innovative biopharmaceutical company based in Seattle, announced that it has been awarded a $1.07 million government contract from the Uniformed Services University in conjunction with the Armed Forces Radiobiology Research Institute and the Department of Defense. The contract will fund Inologic's efforts to develop radioprotective agents as radiation countermeasures against nuclear attack or accident. Inologic credits Senator Patty Murray (D-WA) with helping to secure these important research funds from the Department of Defense.

Inologic received the contract to develop a radioprotective drug that could either act before radiation exposure to protect the body from radiation damage or act as a type of "morning after" drug and help repair damage once it has occurred. Of particular interest to the Department of Defense is the potential ability of the drug to protect U. S. troops from the ever-changing hazards they face. The drug could also be used to protect or treat the public if exposed to radioactive material. In light of recent events such as the public health scare associated with the radiation contamination of several British Airways planes, affecting as many as 30,000 travelers, and the death of ex-Russian spy Alexander Litvinenko, who died of exposure to the radioactive material polonium-210, the availability of such a radioprotective drug could have significant health benefits.

"Our technology is unique and offers considerable advantages for developing this kind of drug," said Dr. Beatrice Langton-Webster, chief executive officer of Inologic. "This contract will enable us to work on discovering a drug that is safe and cost-effective and, most importantly, can be used prior to or after exposure to radiation. We believe this drug could have significant impact in providing first responders, the public and the military with a needed measure of safety and security."

Inologic's radioprotective drugs are based on the company's proprietary inositol signaling molecules (ISMs) and could protect or reverse the harmful effects of exposure to ionizing radiation. "We are very grateful to senator Murray for the opportunity to bring this promising radioprotective research into the Washington state biodefense initiative," said Michael Buhrmann, chairman of Inologic's board.

For more information, please visit http://www. inologic. com (http://www. inologic. com) or contact Dr. Beatrice Langton-Webster at (206) 812-1510 or by e-mail.

Phoenix, Arizona (PRWEB) February 27, 2010

After an exhaustive three-day campus visit with students, faculty and staff, a seven-member team of community college administrators from across the country says it will recommend the maximum ten-year renewal of accreditation for GateWay Community College. The news was announced at an exit meeting with college personnel Wednesday morning. In the meeting, review team chair Dr. Rebecca Nickoli, Vice President of for Workforce and Economic Development at Ivy Tech Community College in Indiana, talked of how the team saw firsthand the college's "engagement with the community and in the lives of students."

Dr. Nickoli read from the team report, summarizing their findings on each of five accreditation criteria set by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC). GateWay met each of the five criteria with no need for additional follow-up or review by the HLC.

A few college areas singled out for special praise included:

•commitment to teaching and learning
•strong career and technical programs
•participatory advisory councils
•critical reading requirement for students
•Maricopa Skill Center, which "serves students who might otherwise go unserved"
•strong community input and partnerships
•Early College High School and Dual Enrollment program outreach to younger students
•extensive student support services

Dr. Nickoli observed that "GateWay students love their college" and faculty and staff demonstrate a "passion for their work." In announcing the team's recommendation that GateWay receive the maximum ten-year accreditation renewal with no HLC follow-up, she assured the assembly that "that doesn't happen very often!"

Next, the college will receive a first draft of the team's full report, at which time factual corrections can be made. Then, President Giovannini and Chancellor Glasper will receive the final report, at which time they can express any issues with the report's findings. The team will recommend that GateWay's next accreditation review take place during the 2019 - 2020 academic year.

Mangosteen (The Queen of Fruits) is now available in a juice called Xango!

Xango is an anti-inflammitory, anti-histomin, anti-oxidant. The Mangosteen fruit is rich in xanthones, perhaps the most potent ant-oxidant ever discovered.

(PRWEB) September 23, 2004

I have recently been introduced to the most intriguing health product called XANGO. The products main ingredient is the Mangosteen fruit, a remarkable fruit that has been studied and researched by third party, independent scientific and university studies as far back as 1855, yet has never before been brought to the U. K and U. S market. until last November. It reached the U. K in January 2004. It provides people with a wide range of health benefits. The mangosteen fruit contains 43 known xanthones. Perhaps the most potent anti-oxidant ever discovered. The taste and experience of the mangosteen fruit is unforgettable, but you would have to go to the country of it's origin to taste it. It is now available to us in juice form and tastes just as delicious. Even children can take this juice without any problems. You take 1 fl. ozs. first thing in the morning, keep it in your mouth for a few seconds, then swallow the rest. Then feel the difference!!!

Skin Care News Helps You Get Over 'The Burn' This Summer

Skin Care News Helps You Get Over 'The Burn' This Summer

Skin Care News covers proper sunburn treatment in its latest issue to help ease the pain of sunburns this summer.

Sacramento, CA (PRWEB) July 22, 2006

Though you inevitably are going to get burnt this summer, SkinCare-News. com believes sunburn should not slow you down if you know how to properly treat it. Skincare-News. com's latest article identifies ways that we can minimize the effects of sun burns this summer. http://www. skincare-news. com/articles. php? ArtID=103 (http://www. skincare-news. com/articles. php? ArtID=103)

Sunburns are often a painful part of summer, however, according to a recent article in SkinCare-News. com, their effects and your recovery time from a burn can be minimized very easily with proper treatment. In the article "How to Treat a Sun Burn" by Rick Tufington, readers are provided several techniques for making the recovery process from a sun burn more manageable and with less pain. Some of these techniques include:

· Don't Make Things Worse: If you know you are burnt or think you might be burnt, please get out of the sun. I hate to break it to you, but your game of beach volleyball is done for the day. If you think that you are already burnt and no longer need to worry about burns, you are sadly mistaken. The last thing you want to do is make your burn worse or possibly turn it into a second-degree burn. (About. com) http://www. skincare-news. com/articles. php? ArtID=103 (http://www. skincare-news. com/articles. php? ArtID=103)

· Severity Check: We all know when we are really burnt. I usually turn from a "hot dog pink" to a darker, more "polish sausage red" color. However, many of us do not know the signs of a sun burn that can cause more damage than just redness and irritation. One of the best ways to tell if your burn is worse than the average sun burn is to look for blisters. According to About. com "Blistering means the skin is completely damaged and complications are likely." Therefore, if you see blisters, make sure to head to the doctor. http://www. skincare-news. com/articles. php? ArtID=103 (http://www. skincare-news. com/articles. php? ArtID=103)

Skin care expert Tufington knew that he wanted to approach sun burns from a different angle when he wrote his article. "No matter how hard we try, we usually end up burnt. I was thinking, let's just cut the non-sense and talk about ways to speed up your recovery time," Tufington states. http://www. skincare-news. com/articles. php? Alteris installed a total of 43 kilowatts of solar electric power as part of the redevelopment housing project of the former state hospital complex, earning the site designation as a "sustainable community."

"It's great to be a part of this smart growth project in Northampton," said Ron French, president of Alteris Renewables, "Hillside Place represents what so many developments can and should be, including both cutting edge renewable energy technology and affordability of the units."

"We're proud to say that the solar electric systems will help to defray the costs of utility bills for residents," explained French, "as well as reduce carbon dioxide emissions by as much as one million pounds over the course of twenty-five years."

Other green features of the site include super-insulated walls and ceilings and Energy Star rated heating equipment and appliances.

New Online and Self-Study Course on The Standard of Care in Managing Mental Health Crisis Issues is Introduced. This Course is Based On An Actual Legal Case

New Online and Self-Study Course on The Standard of Care in Managing Mental Health Crisis Issues is Introduced. This Course is Based On An Actual Legal Case.

New online and self-study course for mental health clinicians is introduces addressing the standard of care in managing crisis issues. This course is based on an actual legal case involving a mental health clinician and can serve as a guide for current new and seasoned clinicians in developing a structure of safety to manage unpredictable and potentially dangerous clinical situations.

SANTA BARBARA, CA (PRWEB) July 14, 2004 -

Federico C. Grosso, DDS, PhD, MFT, BCFE announces the introduction of a new Interactive Online Continuing Education Course and Self-Study Continuing Education Course titled: “The Standard of Care in Managing Mental Health Crisis Issues.” This course addresses the application of legal and ethical mandates expected of reasonable and prudent mental health clinicians when facing unpredictable and potentially damaging crisis issues.

Dr. Grosso based this course on a recent mental health legal case in which he served as a successful expert witness. He pointed out that this legal case reinforced the premise that crisis issues are unpredictable in nature and thus require an appropriate structure to manage them when they occur. Crisis issues tend to develop unstoppable momentum once they begin and by then, itÂ’s too late to try to go back and change errors or omission and commission. These errors range from not knowing how to assess for risk factors to breaching confidentiality without having an understanding of the legal therapeutic duty regarding mandated or permitted reporting to protect a client from harming him/herself or others. This course presents a detailed structure that would support a reasonable and prudent clinicianÂ’s legal and ethical therapeutic duty to assess, diagnose, and treat according to the standard of care throughout the duration of treatment.

The structure proposed in this course introduces the clinical dangers faced by mental health clinicians when they face crisis issues including, child abuse, elder/dependent abuse, Tarasoff situations, anorexia, bulimia, suicide, spousal abuse, etc. Any of these situations can cause severe physical or emotional harm to the client, his or her family, others outside of the treatment unit, and even the clinician and those associated with him or her. The structure next addresses the necessary and appropriate assessment protocols that would support a clinician’s legal duty to assess appropriately. In conjunction, these serve to provide the clinician to obtain an appropriate 5-Axis diagnosis, which is the standard of care of the profession and supported by many prominent expert witnesses in this arena. The appropriate use of treatment plans, used as a treatment and assessment tool, and other documentation protocols are used extensively throughout the course to support the clinician’s decisions. The course also relies on a variety of clinical vignettes exemplifying the standard of care, errors of omission and commission, and these help clinicians navigate the vagaries of crisis issues. Dr. Grosso’s forensic and clinical experience makes this an extremely useful and valuable course for new and seasoned clinicians. As he frequently reminds clinicians: “Once the crisis has taken place, it’s too late to change clinical decisions.” He also warns clinicians about altering written records: “The technology is such that alterations are easily discernable by forensic experts. Should the clinician be found to have altered a mental health record, he or she can be found guilty of unprofessional conduct and most likely will place his or her license in jeopardy.”

This course is available from http://www. fgrosso. com (http://www. fgrosso. com). Clinicians can find the interactive CEU course by clicking on Interactive Online CEU Courses. The self-study course can be found by clicking on Self-Study CEU Courses. Dr. Grosso continues to receive recognition as the leader in these types of courses. Those courses enhancing the safety of clinicians when facing unpredictable and unmanageable clinical issues, such as crisis issues.

Background on FGrosso. com. FGrosso. com provides mental health clinicians with practical and easy-to-use clinical resources including practice enhancement workbooks, online and self-study continuing education, software, consultation as an expert witness, lectures, and academic publications. Dr. Grosso also provides expert witness services in malpractice actions involving marriage and family therapists, clinical social workers, alcohol and drug abuse counselors, certified addictions treatment specialists, and dentists accused of child abuse when providing treatment in the dental office. He also lectures for and consults with mental health organizations. He is an official lecturer on law and ethics and other subjects for the California Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers.

Phenocal Shifting Scales in Favor of Consumers

Phenocal Shifting Scales in Favor of Consumers

As more consumers flock to diet pills to help them reach their weight-loss goals, many are confused (in light of dozens of recalls of leading diet pills) as to which diet pills are safe to take, and which diet pills work. This is why the leading diet pills, like Phenocal, are quickly becoming household names. Simply because they are clinically-proven to work, they facilitate natural, safe and healthy weight-loss, and they do not cause any adverse side effects whatsoever.

Manalapan, NJ (PRWEB) May 31, 2009

More consumers are seeking diet pills to help them reach their weight-loss goals. In light of this burgeoning trend, many diet pill companies have been capitalizing on dieter's desires by releasing a plethora of different diet pills that make all sorts of lofty promises. But dieters beware: if your diet pill is not clinically-proven and has not been tested for adverse, and quite often dangerous, side effects, you may be placing yourself - your body and your overall health and wellbeing - at severe risk. Over the past year alone, more than seventy diet pills have been recalled by the FDA (US Food and Drug Administration) because they contained tainted, dangerous, and or illegal ingredients that were harmful to consumers. This is just one of the many reasons why the leading diet pills, like Phenocal, are shifting the scales in favor of the consumer.

"More consumers are turning to the power of clinically-proven Phenocal for a wide variety of reasons," states Brian Watts, spokesperson for Pharmaxa Labs (the makers of Phenocal, distributed online by Healthwebshopping. com).

"In light of this terrifying trend of FDA recalls on many different diet pills - once thought or believed to be safe - the good news is that Phenocal works! It (Phenocal) does not cause any side effects, and people can depend upon it to help them reach their weight-loss goals in a safe, healthy and natural manner," Watts says.

Phenocal diet pills are all-natural, safe and effective. They have been clinically-proven to help facilitate a natural and healthy weight-loss regime when combined with a balanced diet and daily exercise. Phenocal diet pills work by utilizing a proprietary combination of clinically-proven and all-natural ingredients inclusive of blends of Hoodia Gordonii, Green Tea Extract and 7-Keto, in addition to other thermogenic compounds that naturally control and suppress the appetite, increase the metabolic rate, and promote safe and effective weight-loss.

Phenocal diet pills are taken daily by mouth. Most people will notice a significant boost in energy, decreased food cravings and hunger, and noticeable weight-loss within the first few weeks of daily usage.

For more information on how Phenocal diet pills can become a pivotal part of your weight-loss regime, please visit them online at: www. phenocal. com.

New Book 'Personal Mastery: Develop Your True Inner Power by Awakening Your Kundalini' is now available on Amazon. com

Robert Morgen has just released a new book. "Personal Mastery: Develop Your True Inner Power by Awakening Your Kundalini" (ISBN: 1-4116-3588-4) is now available on Amazon. com

Denver, CO (PRWEB) September 7, 2005

- Robert Morgen has just released a new book. "Personal Mastery: Develop Your True Inner Power by Awakening Your Kundalini" (ISBN: 1-4116-3588-4) is now available on Amazon. com

The kundalini is a pool of energy that lies at the base of the spine. Dormant in most people, it can be awakened in a carefully controlled manner. The benefits of awakening the kundalini are well documented and include better health, higher levels of energy and a much greater mind/body/spirit connection. Kundalini energy can be accessed and used by anyone regardless of religious faith or spiritual path.

"The kundalini can show you why youÂ’re here, what life is really all about and help unveil the mysteries surrounding our everyday lives. This book can teach you to calm your mind, improve your health and eyesight and develop abilities that most people donÂ’t even believe in," says Morgen.

With this innovative book students can learn meditations and exercises needed to develop a better mind/body/spirit connection. The simple, easy exercises can be done by anyone at any experience level. The step-by-step progression of the exercises allows students to expand their abilities and promotes health, increased energy and a well balanced life.

Practice of the meditations, exercises and attitudes taught will allow students to awaken their kundalini in a safe, efficient manner without harmful side effects sometimes experienced by students less well-trained. Students learn how to access their inner wisdom and connect to the universe at a spiritual level. The exercises allow the student to progress at their own rate without a guru.

Using the exercises in this book the dedicated student can not only learn to tap into these hidden reserves of energy, but do so safely and efficiently.

The topics covered include:

Meditation Basics: unlocking your inner power

Kundalini and Enlightenment

Developing your Self-Awareness

Seeing and feeling energy

Complete Self Acceptance

Becoming your ‘True Self’

Opening and Balancing the Chakras

“Personal Mastery is an incremental process,” says Morgen. “Rather than making huge, unsustainable changes, it’s all about developing your true self and becoming the person you were meant to be. No matter who or where you are, your path to your own Personal Mastery starts right NOW!”

Podiatrist Offers Foot Care Tips for Walking, Now the Most Popular Exercise for Seniors

Podiatrist Offers Foot Care Tips for Walking, Now the Most Popular Exercise for Seniors

As part of a regular exercise regimen, walking enables older Americans to stay fit longer and increase their physical stamina and longevity. However, as we age, our feet need more attention and care. To help keep feet in top condition, many podiatrists are recommending natural foot care products from Xenna Corporation.

Princeton, NJ (PRWEB) July 12, 2005

As part of a regular exercise regimen, walking enables older Americans to stay fit longer and increase their physical stamina and longevity. According to the Sporting Goods Manufacturers Association, walking is the number one exercise activity for seniors aged 55 and over. However, as we age, our feet need more attention and care.

The American Podiatric Medical Association (APMA) wants to educate consumers about the impact walking can have on the feet. Dr. Lloyd Smith, former president of the American Podiatric Medical Association (APMA) pointed out the importance of foot care during the APMA's 2005 "Podiatrists Keep America Walking" campaign, saying "Walking is such a beneficial exercise, but unfortunately the feet are often ignored."

Lawrenceville, New Jersey, podiatrist Dr. Bruce Bitcover, says, "Healthy feet and the proper shoes are essential to obtaining the benefits of walking, especially for older individuals. Dr. Bitcover offers the following tips for seniors who want to start a walking regimen, or for those who have already started on one:

1. Get a physical exam and medical clearance before starting any exercise program, including walking.

2. Start slowly. Push ahead gradually, building up to a brisk walk, doing one-half hour stints at least four times a week.

3. Walk on an even surface, not on rough trails which may have hidden holes or other obstacles which could cause injury. If possible, walk on a track rather than cement.

4. Vary the route you walk each day, in order to avoid using muscles the same way all the time.

5. Buy good, supportive shoes specially designed for walking. It's better to purchase walking shoes from a specialty athletic shoe store, where staff is more knowledgeable about style and proper fit. Buy shoes that are comfortable, and wait until afternoon to try on new shoes, since feet tend to swell as the day wears on.

6. If feet are thin or bony, or if arches are high or low, orthotic inserts may be needed to provide extra cushioning and/or control the position of the foot as it hits the ground (pronation or supination).

7. Do a foot self-inspection every day to check for blisters, discolored toenails, cracks, calluses or other problems. If needed, see a podiatrist for regularly scheduled foot care.

For dry, cracked heels caused by walking, Dr. Bitcover recommends acid-free CalleX® Dry Heel Ointment from Xenna Corporation. Newly patented CalleX Ointment has been shown in consumer studies to significantly reduce thick, dry, flaking skin and cracking on soles and heels within 15 to 30 days. Diabetic-friendly CalleX Ointment moisturizes dry, rough or flaky skin, and exfoliates and thins thickened areas, while leaving normal skin unaffected. Dr. Bitcover says, "There are no side effects and the ointment is easy to use. I recommend CalleX for use anywhere on the feet where thickened skin exists."

Another common problem for seniors is discolored or yellow toenails. For this embarrassing problem, many podiatrists recommend NonyX® Nail Gel. NonyX Gel exfoliates the dark, yellow or thick granular material called keratin debris, which can build up under nails over time. With regular use, the gel softens, breaks down and then clears out unattractive keratin debris under the nail using natural ethanoic acid, and permits it to be scraped out from under the nail after about four weeks. Once keratin debris is removed, NonyX Gel keeps nails looking clear and attractive with regular use.

NonyX Nail Gel can be purchased in the footcare section of Walgreens, Rite Aid, Longs, Drug Emporium, Brooks, Duane Reade and most Medicine Shoppe drugstores. You'll also find it at HEB, Roundy's and Brookshire grocery stores, through podiatric physicians, independent pharmacies and online at www. drugstore. com and www. xenna. com. CalleX Dry Heel Ointment is now available in the footcare section at Longs Drugs and most Medicine Shoppe pharmacies and from podiatric physicians and online at www. drugstore. com and www. xenna. com. To order NonyX Nail Gel or CalleX Dry Heel Ointment online, find a store near you or to view clinical photos, click on www. xenna. com. For more information from the APMA, go to www. apma. org.

Xenna Corporation is a privately-held company which develops and distributes natural personal care products for skin, hair and nails.

Innovative 3D Technology is Attractive to China as Healthcare Infrastructure Expands

(PRWEB) March 10, 2010

TrueVision Systems, Inc. announced that it signed a letter of intent (LOI) with the Weigao Group (WEGO) to create a Chinese joint venture (JV) called WEGO-TrueVision to build and distribute TrueVision products in China. TrueVision® is a real-time 3D high-definition visualization and guidance system for microsurgery that includes brain, eye, spine, ear, nose, and throat surgeries.

“TrueVision’s 3D visualization and guidance technology will be of great value in orthopedic surgery, especially in the spine and hand areas.” stated Dr. Tan Yuan Chao, President of the 900 bed Wendeng Orthopedics Hospital. “Their guidance software applications should greatly help to raise the level of skill for all surgeons and improve patient outcomes.”

Dr. Liu, President of Weihai ENT and Eye Hospital added, “TrueVision’s 3D digital technology is immediately valuable for superior visualization and teaching microsurgery techniques. In the near future, TrueVision should be able to replace the both the surgical microscope (optical imaging) and the navigation systems with one integrated, easy to use, platform.”

WEGO is one of four publicly traded Chinese medical device companies with annual revenues that exceed $1B US. They have 12,000 employees that make and sell over 300 products and are located in the City of Weihai in the Shandong province. They are one of largest medical device companies in China and are actively seeking US emerging companies with the latest technologies to bring into China.

“Adding high technology products like TrueVision to our product offering is a strategic focus for WEGO.” stated Chen Xue Li, Chairman and CEO of WEGO Group. “We are very excited about this Joint Venture, and believe it will provide great value to both patients and surgeons for microsurgery procedures.”

Mr Shutao Sun, Mayor of Weihai Shandong China commented, “The TrueVision-WEGO Joint Venture is good for both Weihai and good for China in general. TrueVision represents a class of new and best medical technology that we wish to incorporate in our build-out of China’s healthcare infrastructure. TrueVision and WeiGao seem to be a very synergistic fit.”

“The timing is good for TrueVision to partner with one of the strongest medical device companies in China,” stated Forrest Fleming, TrueVision CEO. “The Chinese government will invest over two hundred billion dollars into upgrading their country’s healthcare infrastructure over the next 5 years and are committed to leapfrog older technologies like microscopes (optical imaging based) to adopt newer technologies like TrueVision (digital imaging based).”

The Prince Synergy Helps Individuals and Businesses to Be Intelligently 'Lazy' and Succeed Faster - Comprehensive Stress Management Program to Start June 9, Synergy Program June 16

The Prince Synergy Helps Individuals and Businesses to Be Intelligently 'Lazy' and Succeed Faster - Comprehensive Stress Management Program to Start June 9, Synergy Program June 16

Unlike other programs, The Prince Synergy helps individuals free and optimize their human mind and body, and improve interrelations with their internal and external worlds, not only today but also tomorrow. The Prince Synergy's pre-preventive care benefits businesses and children as well as individuals.

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) June 5, 2007

The Prince Synergy, a world expert in human potential, professional training and consulting organization, announces its Comprehensive Stress Management Program will take place through June 9-10, 2007, and the Synergy Program will start on June 16, 2007 in Los Angeles.

The June 9th program, Be Intelligently "Lazy" and Succeed Faster, is a two-day seminar that aims to relax individuals efficiently, reduce today's stress and its sources from internal and external worlds and prevent tomorrow's stress. So individuals can feel better, look better, get treated better and succeed faster. The program covers the human software and health issues that connect closely with stress, besides the stress management component. Our thinking system is like software running inside us -- we could learn; we can relearn.

Through techniques such as stress management, human software updating and staying healthy, The Prince Synergy helps others free and optimize the human mind and body, and improve interrelations with the person's internal and external worlds. Under the Prince Synergy's pre-preventive care, individuals as well as businesses, government agencies, insurance companies, and other institutions can enjoy improved and relaxed productivity and reduced medical and legal costs. Our children will have more positive influences for better futures.

The Prince Synergy uses case practices and other hands-on methods to facilitate the best improvement of human potential. The organization emphasizes looking at a big picture and utilizing a comprehensive approach, rather than using one tool to solve all problems.

Founded by physician and author Bin Yang, MD, in 2007, the Prince Synergy is devoted to helping individuals live easy, happy and healthy, helping individuals and businesses succeed faster and bringing children better futures.

Dr. Yang has trained in internal medicine and psychiatry. The first time Dr. Yang experienced the close connection amoung human software (both hers and others'), stress management and staying healthy was when her mother could not get off a ventilator after five weeks of intensive care. ICU physicians concluded that her mother would be ventilator-dependent for the rest of her life. Dr. Yang had to hold her tears and challenge the authorities, namely, ICU physicians, her own physicians as well at that time. Dr. Yang did her own assessment, teaching her mother a new way to breathe and practicing with her. Within three days, her mother was taken off the ventilator successfully. Had Dr. Yang not questioned ICU doctors, her mother would have chosen to die. With the help of nine other specialists, her mother has been able to shop, cook, talk and laugh rather independently again.

Instead of being "aged" by other stressful life events, Dr. Yang has turned some disasters into opportunities with her comprehensive stress management techniques. Yang has been a volunteer for abused children, wanting to bring a more positive influence to them at their critical age.

The Prince Synergy's programs and services are designed to help to develop the capabilities and drive needed to exact fundamental changes. Next Synergy Program, a four-day seminar that will start on June 16, helps bring an individual's potential -- including stress management, health and influence over children, others and business -- to the highest. The Custom Program is a program that targets a group or an individual's unique needs precisely. The Prince Synergy provides a one-on-one program, consultation and lectures, as well.

The Prince Synergy offers a discount to veterans and individuals in rehabilitation. However, The Prince Synergy will not be able to succeed without a participant's burning desire and action. Please visit www. ThePrinceSynergy. com or call 310-820-2829 for more info.

For more information, or to schedule an interview with The Prince Synergy, please contact Judith at 1-310-820-2829 or Judith @ ThePrinceSynergy. com.

Anonymous VC seeds Teen for WomenÂ’s Empowerment in Africa

Anonymous VC seeds Teen for WomenÂ’s Empowerment in Africa

Venture capitalist provides seed money to teen for womens empowerment program in africa. "Investment" will provide huge "dividends" of Teen involvement and women's help. How a school with a well encourages girls to attend school regularly. A personal journey of a 17 year old teen girl to Africa to help the poorest.

Cupertino, CA (PRWEB) September 21, 2004

An anonymous Venture Capitalist has provided seed money of a different kind! Insiyah Nomanbhoy, 17, a senior at Castilleja School in Palo Alto, CA, and another student, have been funded for a WomenÂ’s Empowerment Delegation to Ethiopia and Uganda, Sept 15 to 25. The trip is planned by Save The Children, and its goal is to provide resources and develop programs to help young girls and women in Africa make a better life for themselves and their families.

In March 2004, Insiyah and her fellow students at Castilleja raised $17,000 for Save The Children by doing a multicultural Dance Benefit. That money was used to build a school with a well in Ethiopia in the Woliso District.

Why a well in a school? Save The Children found that young girls in Ethiopia are responsible for collecting water for their families, and this can take up to 8 hours each day! Building a well in the school encouraged young girls to attend, and take their precious water home at the end of the school day. Girls attendance at a school with a well now equals that of boys.

Insiyah and the other delegates will visit the new school, and build connections with students and teachers there. Working with female government, community and professional leaders, they will formulate programs to provide empowerment for the poorest women in Ethiopia and Uganda.

Insiyah is sharing her experiences with teens all over with a daily journal through www. YouthNoise. com/Save (http://www. YouthNoise. com/Save), a website connecting and creating awareness in teens.

Before embarking Insiyah wrote “Kids are rarely taken seriously and encouraged when they want to make a difference, but we have so much to offer just because we're young, smart and motivated. ….. I hope that I can motivate other kids just like me to build connections and strive to make a difference.

On 9/17, Insiyah wrote from Addis Ababa “I was just watching the streets and just thinking “Why arenÂ’t they in school?” Â….These little children came up to the car and started beggingÂ

Upon her return from Africa, Insiyah will continue her mission of raising awareness of WomenÂ’s problems in Africa through speaking engagements, with the first one planned in affluent Atherton on Sept 29, 04. She has set herself a personal goal of raising at least $10,000 to build another school with a well.

Insiyah wants to attend Stanford or MIT starting in fall 2005, and then go on to medical school. Since she was 5, Insiyah has wanted to become a pediatrician and help little kids who canÂ’t afford healthcare. Currently, Insiyah is a senior at Castilleja School, a college prep school for women in Palo Alto, CA. (www. Castilleja. org)

As Insiyah’s parents, we would love to find and thank the person funding Insiyah. The “investment” promises to pay huge “dividends” of teen involvement and women’s empowerment.

Over 500 Joint Replacement Patients to Celebrate Recovery at Annual South Florida Party

Over 500 Joint Replacement Patients to Celebrate Recovery at Annual South Florida Party.

Upcoming annual (4th) party thrown by large orthopaedic practice for it's joint replacement patients. To be hosted by local news reporter.

Debra Schaeffer (PRWEB) November 5, 2002 -

Lauderdale Lakes, Florida – October 25, 2002 – Total Orthopaedic Care, an advanced surgical multi physician practice providing a full range of orthopaedic services for both adults and children, announces its annual “Joint Party” (The party for their patients who had joint surgery). The fourth annual celebration will be held Friday, November 8th from 10 A. M. – 1 P. M. More than five hundred joint replacement patients are attending the gala which will feature live entertainment, speakers and brunch. Health Reporter Kristi Krueger from ABC Miami-affiliate Channel 10 will be the guest speaker at the party.

Total Orthopaedic Care (T. O.C.) was founded by Dr. M. A. Hajianpour in 1990. The practice is comprised of four Orthopaedic surgeons: Drs. M. A. Hajianpour M. D., F. I.C. S., Michael P. Feanny M. D., F. R.C. S., Duff L. Gula D. O. and Babak Sheikh M. D. A. B.O. S. Although each carries his own full roster of patients, they frequently see each otherÂ’s patients. This reflects the close partnership inherent to the practice.

The idea for the annual party started when the doctors felt it would be enjoyable to get together with their patients and celebrate their recoveries. Staff members and employees get to see the patients in different settings, many joining patients on the dance floor. Dr. Hajianpour believes that such events enhance patientsÂ’ recoveries. “ They feel they are not alone, they meet others with similar challenges and problems.” The physicians find it rewarding to see patients recovering, interacting socially and having a good time. For many patients, this is an important event in their social calendars. As Dr. Feanny says: “Because of their age, many donÂ’t have the opportunity to get out to social events. For some this is a big annual event. They get dressed up, have a meal, socialize and feel as an important part of this event. And they are important to us.”

In this day and age of often impersonal medical care, Dr. Sheikh says that he likes to see a difference between how T. O.C. treats their patients as compared to other practices. He continues, “The most important thing to me is the doctor/patient relationship. I tell patients that we have a partnership. That we are bonded from the time the surgery is done until their treatment is finished and we are not around.”

Before coming to the United States, Dr. Hajianpour practiced medicine in England under the National Health Service system. Dr. Hanjianpour believes that because of this experience he focuses on patients, not financial issues. “I don’t want to know about what kind of insurance, or payment plan they have. I treat everyone the same.”

T. O.C. patients praise the doctor’s efforts to maintain close relationships. Fifty-nine - year-old knee replacement patient Susan Segal raves about what she now considers a friendship with her physician. “He is caring, interested, always there for me.” Susan describes Dr. Sheikh. “He is always helpful and warm. He made me feel that he was a human being, not putting himself on a pedestal like some doctors do. He always has a smile, always lets me interrupt him, never tells me to stop if I have a question or complaint about my condition.”

Ninety-year-old Lillian Kripitzer appreciates the warmth she maintains with her surgeon, Dr. Hajianpour. “If anything is bothering me, he never puts me off. He always gives me answers. We are almost like friends, not the usual stiff doctor/patient relationship. I have no doubt that I can ask him anything.” This coming from a senior citizen world traveler who journeyed to Australia and New Zealand 6 months after her bilateral total knee replacement surgery in January 2000. While abroad, she collapsed and an Australian doctor wanted to operate immediately. Lillian refused and instead came home to consult with her physician. According to Lillian, Dr. Hajianpour reassured her, “You don’t need surgery, you just walked too much.” Following therapy and exercise, Lillian is now pain free and walks without a cane. She is planning more trips abroad in the coming months.

Potential surgical patients often worry that physicians are overeager to get them “under the knife.” T. O.C. patients are confident that their doctors always explore other options first. In the case of Susan Segal, she wanted to have knee replacement surgery, but her doctor initially advised her to wait. Susan explains: “He tried to convince me not to have the surgery, sent me to other doctors, even the competition, tried medication, everything.”

In addition to joint replacement procedures, Total Orthopaedic Care offers a full range of orthopaedic services. Their expertise includes: arthroscopic knee and shoulder surgery, partial and total knee replacements, sports medicine, pediatric orthopaedics, scoliosis treatment, spinal surgery, spinal disorder treatment, and hand and foot surgery. Also back and neck injuries and fracture treatment is covered by this practice.

The doctors at T. O.C. are affiliated with four local hospitals: Florida Medical Center, Columbia Plantation General Hospital, Columbia Westside Regional Medical Center and Memorial Hospital West.

Product Manufacturers Adjust to European Healthcare IndustryÂ’s Passage from Freedom to Control

Product Manufacturers Adjust to European Healthcare IndustryÂ’s Passage from Freedom to Control

Overcoming the Barriers in EuropeÂ’s Evidence-based Healthcare Market - New Analysis from Frost & Sullivan

(PRWEB) August 4, 2003

Needs assessment, planning and delivery in EuropeÂ’s healthcare sector are undergoing a paradigm shift. The traditional latitude given to physicians is giving way to stricter controls. Higher quality and cost effectiveness in terms of treatment outcomes is now the primary focus area with disease management emerging as the planning technique of choice.

Popular methods of quality management that have emerged in recent years include Healthcare Technology Assessment (HTA) and evidence-based medicine. Both have influenced treatment choices, achieving greater control through published guidelines and protocols that lay down care ‘pathways.’ While HTA’s main application is in the area of product testing, evidence-based movement offers quality management at the treatment level.

Disease management - an integrated approach to the diagnosis, maintenance and treatment of chronic diseases or disorders - has folded neatly into these trends. This planning concept has resurfaced since falling into disfavour in the early 1990Â’s due to overexploitation by the pharmaceutical industry.

Today, disease management has transformed from being a product concept favoured by the vendor (as was the case when it was initially promoted by pharmaceutical companies) to a format popular with the purchaser.

As healthcare providers increasingly turn to evidence-based medicine, companies will have to demonstrate that their products provide the benefits that healthcare providers are seeking in terms of quantifiable outcomes and cost-effectiveness. One way is through offering ‘packages of care.’

“Industry needs to promote the use of its products in terms of the benefits which can be derived from packages of care, rather than isolated procedures,” elaborates Gordon Blackwell, Research Analyst at Frost & Sullivan (http://healthcare. frost. com (http://healthcare. frost. com)). “At the single product level they can only use the results of basic healthcare technology assessments to define their effectiveness, whereas healthcare providers are really looking for evidence-based medicine.”

IT is set to play a central role in helping companies offer such evidence-based treatment solutions. The introduction of IT “enablers” is likely to open new opportunities for erstwhile sub-contractors in the disease management service sector.

Expanding IT applications have already elevated quality of care by providing access to data that has assisted in care management and control, helped quantify performance and facilitated the identification and regular use of more effective treatment.

The immediate need is for greater integration of IT systems operating within the healthcare environment. For instance, the creation of an electronic patient record (EPR), which collates data from various sources and incorporates it into a single record. A more long-term goal would be an electronic health record (EHR) that would provide a cradle-to-grave compendium of an individualÂ’s health records. Improved decision-making is the expected outcome of such integration trends.

From organisational to regional and national levels, planning in healthcare is now seen as central to controlling costs. Planning efforts range from management at disease level to needs assessment, target setting and the regular publication of action plans, often with specific built-in quality initiatives. The ensuing healthcare structure has helped deliver better, more organised care to patients.

The United Kingdom has been the pioneer in devising a national planning system, with the National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE) spearheading the successful application of HTA. Even Germany, bastion of a free healthcare market, has ushered in the era of planning with the introduction of disease management programmes for numerous chronic conditions.

At the same time, these new controlled, healthcare regimes have ensured that there are clear roadmaps for future product development endeavours. “For the industry selling products and services into these healthcare systems, planning means that administrators and planners may make decisions that cannot subsequently be changed by professionals in the care environment,” explains Mr. Blackwell.

“Without an effective relationship with planners to enable companies to have visibility of the planning process, it is possible for products to be excluded from use within a plan without the company being aware,” he warns. “Thus it is necessary to aim marketing efforts as far up the planning chain as possible, and to fashion messages in an appropriate language for the audience.”

Couples Having Difficulty Conceiving Should Undergo Thorough Counseling and Testing Before Losing Hope

Couples Having Difficulty Conceiving Should Undergo Thorough Counseling and Testing Before Losing Hope

Knowing where to turn, when to seek treatment and what to expect from preconception [fertility] counseling and testing in advance can help couples relax during what can be a difficult time in their lives. Couples need to know that if they seek treatment early they have approximately an eighty percent chance of achieving their dream.

Norwalk and Danbury, CT (PRWEB) September 22, 2005

For couples trying to achieve pregnancy, it can be discouraging -- even devastating -- to learn that they may be experiencing fertility problems. Knowing where to turn, when to seek treatment and what to expect from preconception [fertility] counseling and testing in advance can help couples relax during what can be a difficult time in their lives. Couples need to know that if they seek treatment early they have approximately an eighty percent chance of achieving their dream.

Mark Leondires, MD, a board-certified Reproductive Endocrinologist and medical director at Reproductive Medicine Associates of Connecticut (RMA of CT) explains, “Before their first visit, many patients are frustrated and unsure of what to expect from fertility counseling. We begin by advising couples on steps that will help them optimize chances for conception – things like fertile times of the month, ovulation detection and lifestyle changes that can affect fertility.”

In cases where lifestyle factors and the simple timing of intercourse do not seem to be the problem, Dr. Leondires explains that certain tests might be recommended. Different types of fertility testing evaluate whether a woman is ovulating (or producing eggs) and whether her partner is producing enough healthy, mobile sperm. Other tests seek to determine whether the sperm can access and fertilize the egg and if implantation can occur. Evaluation of a woman's reproductive anatomy may also be necessary. Test results guide doctors in the type of treatments to recommend, if any.

“Not all women or men will undergo the same tests when being evaluated for fertility,” explains Dr. Leondires. “Through counseling and testing an individual treatment plan needs to be developed in order to give each couple their best chance for conception.”

Common tests to check for infertility:

Doctors recommend that couples under 35 who have been trying to conceive on their own for one year seek help from a physician, while those over 35 seek counsel after six months. The American Society of Reproductive Medicine recommends that couples seek counseling from a reproductive endocrinologist, a fertility specialist, who may recommend the following tests or others.

A Man's Fertility Workup:

Male infertility plays a part in half of all infertility cases. Because evaluating fertility in a man is by nature less invasive than in a woman, many doctors choose to test men before their partners. The most essential test is a semen analysis. This test evaluates the number of sperm released, their motility, and the shape of sperm. This can identify whether functional sperm are being produced in a sufficient quantity of sperm to result in conception. This test is essential and should be completed early in the work up. Sometimes simply artificial insemination is needed to overcome mild male factor.

A Woman's Fertility Workup:

During an initial visit with a fertility specialist, a woman will be questioned about her medical history, previous fertility tests will be reviewed and a standard pelvic exam will be performed. This test will first rule out any obvious physical problems of the uterus, ovaries or cervix. Other tests that may be performed include:

Hormone Tests: Blood and sometimes urine are checked for a variety of hormone levels. These tests can determine whether levels of thyroid stimulating hormones, follicle stimulating hormones, luteinizing hormones, estrogen and progesterone are sufficient for conception.

Pelvic Ultrasound: An image of a woman's reproductive tract allows a detailed evaluation of the uterus, and ovaries for abnormalities.

Endometrial biopsy: A sample taken from a woman's uterine lining late in the menstrual cycle determines if it is sufficiently developed to be able to sustain the implantation of a fertilized egg.

Diagnostic hysteroscopy: During this minor surgery, a small camera is inserted into the uterus through the vagina to checks for polyps, fibroids or other abnormalities in the uterine cavity and womb.

Laparoscopy: During this outpatient surgery done under general anesthesia, a small-lighted camera is inserted into the abdominal cavity through a small incision in or near the naval. This allows a physician to evaluate the condition of the uterus, fallopian tubes and ovaries and detect problems such as fallopian tube obstructions, endometriosis, scarring or damage, uterine fibroids or ovarian cysts. This surgery can often lead to correction of problems that may allow a woman to achieve pregnancy.

According to the American Society of Reproductive Medicine, infertility affects more than six million Americans of reproductive age and men and women in equal numbers. More than half the couples that seek fertility treatment will become pregnant. Individual success rates are continually improving through the use new medication and technologies.

7 Tips to Help Save You from High Blood Pressure or Hypertension

7 Tips to Help Save You from High Blood Pressure or Hypertension

Hypertension or high blood pressure is fast becoming a great concern for society. When most people are initially told they have high blood pressure, it comes as quite a shock. Part of the problem is that it has no early symptoms. Most people feel good and do not notice any problems.

Park Ridge, IL (PRWEB) December 29, 2005

Hypertension or high blood pressure is fast becoming a great concern for society. When most people are initially told they have high blood pressure, it comes as quite a shock. Part of the problem is that it has no early symptoms. Most people feel good and do not notice any problems. Yes, you may be a little unfit and you could eat better, but generally you feel fine.

If you are lucky, you’ll get a warning. Some people will have dizzy spells whilst for others the early warning comes as a mild heart attack. If you are one of the lucky ones who make it through the warning, please do not take it lightly.

Hypertension is part of the collective term “Cardiovascular Disease”. Cardiovascular Disease encompasses high blood pressure, high cholesterol, heart failure, and stroke. Hypertension is the biggest killer in the western world with 696,947 deaths in 2002 in the US alone. Getting on top of high blood pressure early can make all the difference in the world.

7 Tips for Reducing High Blood Pressure (Hypertension)

High Blood Pressure can be reduced significantly and quickly by making minor but consistent adjustments to your lifestyle. Until then, these simple guidelines should be followed:

1. Have regular medical checks, especially if you are over 40, overweight, smoke, or lead an inactive lifestyle.

2. Start a regular exercise regimen. Obtain medical clearance prior to starting an exercise program.

3. Your exercise program should be gradual, consistent and aerobic in nature (walking/cycling). Start by walking 5 days per week, for 10-20 minutes. Something as simple as walking 10 minutes per day can reduce blood pressure to the extent where medication is no longer required!

4. Give up smoking (or at least cut down!). Giving up smoking has been proven to be the greatest single factor in improving your health quickly and efficiently.

5. Eliminate salt from your diet. Salt increases blood pressure and increases fluid retention.

6. Focus on your breathing throughout any lifting or stretching as holding your breath will increase blood pressure.

7. Don’t use pulse rate as a direct measure of exercise intensity if blood pressure medications are being used, as these can decrease pulse rate significantly.

High blood pressure does not have to be a death sentence. Give it the respect it deserves and it just may turn out to be a positive turning point -- the start of a new (fit and healthy) you.

Indianapolis Cosmetic Dentist Utilizes New State-of-the-Art Dental Technology for Better Patient Experiences

Indianapolis Cosmetic Dentist Utilizes New State-of-the-Art Dental Technology for Better Patient Experiences

A cosmetic dentist in Indianapolis is incorporating the latest technologies into her practice – including 3D and digital imagery - in order to provide dental treatments that are safer, more comfortable, and more effective.

Indianapolis, IN (Vocus) March 9, 2010

Dr. Marla Wilson and the staff at Premier Dental Care, a practice offering cosmetic dentistry in Indianapolis, believe in the abilities of new technology to help provide healthier teeth and gums. Dr. Marla Wilson is also confident that state-of-the-art equipment makes dental visits more comfortable and pleasant for her patients.

Dr. Wilson has been performing cosmetic dentistry procedures and restoring dental implants in Indianapolis for more than fifteen years. Over the course of her career she has seen dental technology change with the times, as x-rays and many other services have moved into the digital age. She has been at the forefront of utilizing these new tools, including Galileos 3D Technology, DEXIS digital x-rays, and the Digital Doc intra-oral camera. Dr. Wilson says these devices make it possible for her and her staff to take images of the patient’s mouth that greatly help them diagnose conditions and plan treatments.

Other new advances utilized by Dr. Marla Wilson include the DIAGNOdent laser cavity detector and the Air Abrasion system. DIAGNOdent is used to detect cavities in their earliest stages, and Air Abrasion involves a stream of aluminum oxide crystals used to remove tooth decay. The latter procedure can often be performed without anesthetic and is much more comfortable and well-liked by patients than the traditional drill.

In addition to the DIAGNOdent laser cavity detector, other laser dentistry technology is being put into effect at Dr. Wilson’s practice. The Waterlase® laser helps to accomplish a myriad of procedures without pain or discomfort, including gum disease treatment, tooth etching, cold sore removal, and more.

The TLC system is one of the most popular features at Premier Dental Care. It consists of an overhead, rotating flat screen LCD TV with the option of headphones which allows patients to watch their favorite TV program or movie from the DVD selection while receiving dental treatment. This advanced technology isn’t intended to treat patients’ oral health although it does aid in relaxation and allows patients to be more comfortable during their visit to Premier Dental Care. Dr. Wilson says patients often tell her how this makes dental appointments more pleasant and enjoyable.

By placing such an emphasis on technology and on providing gentle, effective care, Dr. Wilson says she is able to make dental treatments as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. Dr. Wilson and her staff plan to continue their adoption of new materials and techniques as they become available.

About Dr. Marla Wilson

At her Indianapolis porcelain veneers and cosmetic dentistry practice, Dr. Marla Wilson provides modern, comprehensive treatments for healthy, beautiful smiles. Since graduating in 1994 as the salutatorian of her class at Indiana University School of Dentistry, Dr. Wilson has continued to place a high priority on learning. She has received training in cosmetic and neuromuscular dentistry at the Las Vegas Institute for Advanced Dental Studies, one of the premier post-graduate training facilities in the country. She has also studied cosmetic dentistry at the Nash Institute and the Rosenthal Institute.
