About Hypnotism:

In 1958 the American Medical Association endorsed hypnosis and hypnotherapy as a legitimate treatment tool for pain, stress and relaxation management, weight loss, smoking cessation, childbirth, preparing for surgery, as well as overcoming fears of medical, dental and other hospital procedures. It is natural and free of side effects, when conducted by a certified competent practitioner the results are long lasting and often permanent.

Guidelines of Practice:

The National Guild of Hypnotists has ethical guidelines which all members must adhere to. Even though NGH Hypnotists do not require professional medical or mental health credentials a great number of their members are credentialed in health care professions as is Mr. Eslinger. Non physician hypnotists do not diagnose disease, but do use hypnosis as an adjunct to conventional medical or mental health interventions. Hypnotists use a unique non-diagnostic language with clients in order to help them achieve the healthy change they desire.

About Ron Eslinger:

Healthy Visions Wellness Center Director, Ron Eslinger, is a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist, Advanced Practice Nurse, Master of Arts, Board Certified Hypnotherapist, Certified Instructor of Hypnosis and Certified Instructor for the National Guild of Hypnotists.

Are Your Bowels Irritable? IBS Awareness Month is Here

Are Your Bowels Irritable? IBS Awareness Month is Here

This April marks the 11th annual Irritable Bowel Syndrome Awareness Month, designated to publicize avenues of help for a condition so prevalent that, though rarely talked about, is the leading cause of worker absenteeism after the common cold. For too long, IBS sufferers were dismissed by physicians, ignored by researchers, and given no alternative to suffering in silence. In recent years this situation has changed, with a rising awareness of the profound differences lifestyle modifications can make. In particular, significant patient self-help avenues such as HelpForIBS. com have been created to offer information, support, and immediate tangible help for Irritable Bowel Syndrome sufferers. Self-help management of IBS has proven so successful that physicians and medical groups are embracing these approaches. IBS Awareness Month spreads the news that lBS patients are finally being given the lifestyle assistance they need, and not simply a diagnosis.

Seattle, WA (PRWEB) April 3, 2007

Imagine being struck out of the blue with abdominal cramps so severe they leave you unconscious on the floor. Imagine suffering from diarrhea or constipation so unpredictable and debilitating you plan your daily life around access to bathrooms. Now imagine being told by the doctor who diagnoses you that there is no cure.

If you're one of the 50 million Americans with Irritable Bowel Syndrome, you know exactly how this feels, but odds are you're unaware of much help is now available for you. This April marks the 11th annual IBS Awareness Month, designated to publicize avenues of help for a condition so prevalent that, though rarely talked about, is the leading cause of worker absenteeism after the common cold. IBS is a functional gastrointestinal (GI) disorder characterized by recurring symptoms of abdominal pain associated with altered bowel habits (constipation, diarrhea, or both). More than 20% of Americans suffer from IBS, which affects more women (75%) than men. The cause of IBS is unknown.

For too long, IBS sufferers were dismissed by physicians, ignored by researchers, and given no alternative to suffering in silence. In recent years this situation has changed dramatically, with a rising awareness of the profound differences lifestyle modifications can make. In particular, significant patient self-help avenues such as HelpForIBS. com have been created to offer information, support, and immediate tangible help for Irritable Bowel Syndrome sufferers.

"If you have IBS, you are NOT alone," says HelpForIBS. com founder and CEO Heather Van Vorous. "Living with this disorder does not mean leading a miserable life. There are numerous strategies a person can adopt to help prevent all IBS symptoms, and a happy healthy lifestyle is absolutely possible. Though IBS is often portrayed as the punch line to a joke, it's no laughing matter to those who suffer, and these people need to hear that their suffering is completely unnecessary."

Though IBS patients report using nearly 300 different types of prescription and over-the-counter medications (including Zelnorm, which was just withdrawn from the US market by the FDA) in attempts to find relief, many are now discovering that non-drug approaches to the disorder are far more effective and safer. Specifically, patients find success with:
the groundbreaking IBS dietary guidelines and recipes from the book Eating for IBS a reduction of stress triggers through gut-directed hypnotherapy for IBS or yoga practice emotional support via internet IBS message boards and local IBS support groups organic medical foods such as Heather's Tummy Care products, which are keyed to specific IBS symptoms

Self-help management of IBS has proven so successful that physicians are embracing these approaches, and are referring patients to IBS internet communities such as HelpForIBS. com, hypnotherapists with IBS training, and hometown support groups.

IBS Awareness Month spreads the news that IBS patients are finally being given the lifestyle assistance they need, and not simply a diagnosis. While there is no cure for IBS on the horizon, there are now many healthy ways to successfully manage - and even prevent - all Irritable Bowel Syndrome symptoms.

About HelpForIBS. com
HelpForIBS. com (www. HelpForIBS. com) is the largest IBS community on the internet, with over 5 million visits per year and a subscriber membership of over 70,000 IBS patients and physicians. Heather's groundbreaking work in the IBS dietary field has led to her inclusion in Marquis Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare, has been licensed by Novartis pharmaceuticals, and has been publicized worldwide by physicians, IBS organizations, and patients.

40,000 Cell Phones to Be Replaced on Earth Day; ReCellular Provides Five Reasons to Recycle Cell Phones

40,000 Cell Phones to Be Replaced on Earth Day; ReCellular Provides Five Reasons to Recycle Cell Phones

Leading Electronics Sustainability Firm ReCellular encourages consumers to "Go Green" and recycle cell phones in honor of Earth Day.

Dexter, MI (PRWEB) April 20, 2008 -

Americans discard on average 40,000 cell phones every day - or 150 million phones a year. For a society so accustomed to consuming and discarding, ReCelluar is encouraging everyone to "Go Green" and recycle cell phones (http://www. recellular. com/recycling/faqs. asp? campaign=Apr08) that they no longer use.

Reusing or recycling cell phones has a significant benefit to environmental efforts. According to the Environmental Protection Agency, producing 150 million cell phones would consume enough energy to power 285,000 homes for a year, and produce more than 258 million kilograms of carbon emissions. According to the U. S. Geological Survey, 150 million phones contains $94 million of precious metals - not factoring the cost of recovery - including gold, platinum, silver, palladium and copper.

"We are proud to lend our knowledge and expertise in wireless recycling to help make 'Going Green' for Earth Day a reality," says Chuck Newman, founder and CEO of ReCellular. "This is a great day to build awareness for the small things all of us can do to make a difference."

In honor of one of the largest environmental movements of the year, ReCellular has compiled five reasons to recycle cell phones that are rattling around in your desk drawer:

1. They likely still work. More than half of the phones ReCellular receives are still functional, and can be refurbished and reused - often in developing countries. The United Nations ranks access to communications as the second-most important contributor to quality of life, after health-care.

2. They contain valuable materials. Recycling cell phone circuit boards yields more gold per ton than the average ton of ore from gold mine operations, as well as other precious metals such as silver, platinum and palladium.

3. They can be environmentally damaging. Like all rechargeable batteries, cell phones contain heavy metals and chemicals that can be toxic in landfills, and should always be recycled.

4. They are of value. ReCellular offers businesses up to $150 per phone, and their charitable donate-a-phone programs raised more than $8 million per year for non-profit organizations.

5. They're serving no purpose in the drawer. Really, what are you keeping those cell phones for? Send them in.

For more information on how to recycle cell phones, or to download a prepaid shipping label to donate your phone, go to ReCellular. com.

Bentley's Water Modeling Software Selected for Baghdad

Bentley's Water Modeling Software Selected for Baghdad

WaterGEMS Software to Help Improve Water Quality for Millions of Residents; Meets Requirements for Future GIS-Enabled Water Management System

(PRWEB) November 5, 2004

Exton, PA - Bentley Systems, Incorporated, today announced that Parsons, a leading engineering, program management, and construction firm, in collaboration with the U. S. Agency for International Development (USAID), has selected WaterGEMS, from Bentley's Haestad Methods product line, for use in major potable water system developments in Baghdad, Iraq.

Based on assessments of various hydraulic modeling programs, Parsons chose WaterGEMS for its advanced geospatial modeling capabilities. "WaterGEMS provides the capability to meet the Baghdad Water Supply Authority's requirements in developing a future GIS-enabled water management system," said Chuck Mangan, Parsons program manager. "We are confident that WaterGEMS will help our team improve the quality of water service for the millions of residents in Baghdad."

Iraq's major water treatment and pumping facilities are operating significantly below capacity, due largely to years of neglect prior to the conflict. Some water meant for consumption is untreated, and many rural communities have no access to potable water. However, improvements are under way, and an anticipated 11.8 million Iraqis will benefit from USAID's $600 million in water and sanitation projects.

Through water distribution modeling, Parsons will use a two-phase approach to identify water treatment, pumping, storage, transmission, and distribution system improvements. The initial phase includes prioritizing improvements for Baghdad's system. WaterGEMS will be used to analyze the distribution and transmission systems, and to establish gross supply and demand estimates. In the second phase, WaterGEMS will be used to identify system improvements required to expand water coverage to nearby rural areas. Successful implementation of this project will allow the city of Baghdad and its surrounding communities to use water treatment, transmission, and distribution systems to their fullest.

For more information on WaterGEMS, call +1 800 727 6555 in the United States or Canada or +1 203 755 1666 worldwide, E-mail info@haestad. com or info. haestad@bentley. com, or visit www. haestad. com/watergems (http://www. haestad. com/watergems).

US Green Building Council Approves SMART© & California Gold Standards

US Green Building Council Approves SMART© & California Gold Standards

USGBC’s Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) Rating System now awards credits for two almost identical consensus Standards dramatically reducing climate change pollution. SMART© is part of MTS’ initiatives to stop in the next 5-10 years, irreversible dangerous climate change causing global collapse.

Washington, DC (PRWEB) June 7, 2007 -

SMART© and California Gold Sustainable Product Standards were approved on May 4 as part of the LEED Green Building Rating System based on their compliance with 24 comprehensive sustainable product certification criteria (attached).

SMART© and California Gold assess products on a number of criteria throughout the global supply chain, such as use of safe and healthy materials based on life cycle assessment; material reuse, recycling, biobased organic products with EPA Best Management Practices; energy efficiency, renewable energy, and water reuse; wood chain of custody fighting illegal logging; and social equity.

"Perkins+Will made climate pollution reductions a Firm wide priority and we’re proud of our work with USGBC on SMART© & California Gold approval since over 80% of the credits for these Standards reduce climate pollution globally,” emphasized Phil Harrison, Perkins+Will CEO and Chairman, SMART© Building Product Committee. SMART© is an EMERGENCY STANDARD part of AIA’s 2015 Imperative to Stop Irreversible Dangerous Climate Change and it’s use effectively eliminates illegally logged wood and deforestation causing about 25% of climate change according to the Global Canopy Programme.

“USGBC’s action is a critical achievement for global sustainability,” says Ken Baker, Gensler Managing Principal in its Wash., DC Office and Chairman of the SMART© Textile Committee. “The entire Gensler organization placed a very high priority on SMART adoption, and before joining Gensler as our Northwest Sustainability Director, Kirsten Ritchie played a fundamental role in both SMART© and California Gold development and approval.”

“AIA and The Interior Design Continuing Education Council approved Training cover SMART© & California Gold. Training is critical to large scale market implementation needed to fight irreversible dangerous climate change and USGBC’s key leadership role importantly provides credible certified product labels the market can trust,” according to Ginny Dyson, LEED AP, DMJM / Rottet, Vice Chair, SMART© Textile Committee.

Denny Darragh, CEO, Forbo Flooring, said “Forbo is very pleased with this important USGBC approval and looks forward to working with project teams wishing to use Forbo’s Linoleum and Bulletin Board SMART© Platinum Certifications to achieve LEED points.”

Lou Newett, Knoll Inc. Environmental Director & SMART© Committee Vice Chair stated “Knoll is in the process of certifying several products to SMART©, and believes this credible level playing field for comparing products will have a very positive market effect.”

Milliken played a leading role in SMART© and California Gold development and approval and its California Platinum Modular Tile was the only existing product receiving the State’s stringent certification. Milliken Global Business Manager Bob Baird emphasized that “manufacturer competition over certification is intense but that’s great for business and global sustainability.”

MTS is a nonprofit public charity of leading environmental groups, companies, and governments with a goal to achieve 90% sustainable products market penetration by 2015. MTS programs greatly contributed to the 75% sustainable products growth rate over the past five years.

Employers Overwhelmed by HIPAA* Changes Get Relief with New Guide Books

Employers Overwhelmed by HIPAA* Changes Get Relief with New Guide Books

Employers who administer health care plans must bring their procedures into compliance with the Administrative Simplification provisions under HIPAA*. But many of them are finding the process anything but simple. For that reason, Alison Cline Earles and Sharon Turrell have created two sets of HIPAA materials designed to help guide employers towards compliance in a clear and comprehensive way.

(PRWEB) January 31, 2003

HIPAA Guide Books Tailored to EmployersÂ’ Needs

The first set, HIPAA EZ, is designed to help those employers who sponsor fully-insured health plans and who donÂ’t review detailed health information from those plans. It includes a summary of the law, a narrated PowerPoint presentation and the EZ ToolKit. Using HIPAA EZÂ’s samples, employers can work together with their legal counsel and health insurers to make sure their plans comply with the law.

The second set of materials, HIPAA for Employers: Privacy, Transaction and Security Standards for Sponsors of Self-Insured and Fully-Insured Health Plans, is a more in-depth kit aimed at employers involved in plan administration who must review detailed health information. It includes a summary of the law, a narrated PowerPoint presentation, and the Comprehensive ToolKit. This tool kit provides step-by-step instructions, worksheets, administration forms and templates to guide employers to a clear understanding and implementation of the changes.

Making the Process Clearer, Saving Time and Money

Authors Alison Cline Earles, Esq. of Benefits Law Group, and Sharon Turrell of Practical Solutions Group, LLC, (a health care publishing/consulting company) say they joined forces to create these guides in response to a pressing need.

“These materials provide not just a clear explanation of the new laws and a step-by-step guide to compliance… they can help employers figure out which HIPAA provisions they are obliged to carry out and which ones are unnecessary, saving them a lot of time and money,” said Earles.

Malibu, CA (Vocus) September 29, 2009 -–

Promises Treatment Centers and Dr. Sonee Weedn, a Clinical and Forensic Psychologist, are holding a recovery retreat (http://workshops. promises. com/maliburetreat/) October 15-18, 2009 in Malibu, California. The retreat, “Resilience, Renewal, and Recovery during Challenging Times,” will focus on holistic health through experiential learning, exercising creativity, and cross-cultural wisdom teachings to help participants renew themselves and develop and maintain resiliency in recovery.

“Although our challenges are unique to today, they are not unusual in the experience of the cultural existence of this planet," explains Dr. Sonee Weedn. “Participants will experience multicultural traditions and apply the wisdom of the ages to today’s issues so that they can deepen their recovery process.”

Presentations will provide participants with tools for connection, creativity, and reflection. They will learn ways to access their own inner guidance and renew their spiritual connection.

The retreat will be held at Pepperdine University’s Villa Graziado Executive Center. The exceptional location nestled between the Pacific Ocean and the Santa Monica Mountains offers a peaceful and inspiring environment for reflection and renewal.

Albert Sombrero, M. S., a counselor and Navajo Spirit Guide, will lead healing ceremonies, including a Talking Circle, sweat lodge, White Bison teachings, Potlatch, and meditation.

Participants can also make appointments to meet with Dana Patterson, who uses her intuitive abilities to see at the core what is going on in a person’s life at a subconscious level.

Keith Arnold, Executive Vice President of Elements Behavioral Health, is co-facilitating the retreat. Keith is a nationally recognized figure in the recovery and addiction treatment (http://www. promises. com) community. He was previously the Executive Director of Sierra Tucson and has long been a leader in the movement for the treatment of chemical dependence, addiction, and trauma recovery.

“We are excited to bring together the skills and knowledge of Dr. Weedn, Albert Sombrero, and Dana Patterson to help people in recovery improve their life and their ability to thrive despite challenges they are confronted with,” says Keith Arnold. “Learning to access wisdom from other cultures and trust their own intuition while connecting to a higher power, will enhance peoples’ quality of life and tolerance of uncertainty."

The retreat begins on Friday, October 15 and ends on Sunday, October 18. Attorney and Advocacy Group to Share $500K Gruber Foundation International Justice Prize

Attorney and Advocacy Group to Share $500K Gruber Foundation International Justice Prize

Each Has Set in Motion Dramatic Changes to Help Victims of Discrimination Gain Access to Equal Justice

New York, NY (PRWEB) June 10, 2009 -

The Peter and Patricia Gruber Foundation (www. gruberprizes. org) today announces that, on the tenth anniversary of the Gruber Prize Program, it will award its 2009 Justice Prize to an individual and an organization for their tireless advocacy of human rights for individuals belonging to oppressed groups that historically have not had an effective voice in, or access to, the justice system:

Bryan Stevenson - executive director of Equal Justice Initiative (EJI; http://eji. org/eji/ (http://eji. org/eji/)), which represents indigent defendants, death row inmates, and juveniles who have been denied fair and just treatment in the legal system. With his staff, Stevenson has largely been responsible for reversals and reduced sentences in more than 75 death penalty cases. He has provided an effective training and consulting resource for counsel representing death row inmates and is spearheading litigation in 19 states to get a fair review of sentencing and parole-eligible re-sentencing. Stevenson has been consistently recognized by the National Law Journal as one of the 100 most influential lawyers in America.

European Roma Rights Centre (ERRC) - an international public interest law organization that combats anti-Romani racism and human rights abuse of Roma in Europe. ERRC (http://www. errc. org/ (http://www. errc. org/)) has set in motion more than 500 court cases in 15 countries to bring to justice state and non-state actors who have discriminated against Romani individuals in education, housing, employment, healthcare and other areas, or have committed violence against them. It has secured over 2 million euro in compensation for Romani individuals for the abuse they suffered and the subsequent failure of their respective governments to ensure justice.

The Gruber Justice Prize will be awarded in a ceremony this fall celebrating the achievements of the recipients, who will share the $500,000 prize.

"The work of Bryan Stevenson and that of the European Roma Rights Centre (ERRC) demonstrate what can be accomplished against tremendous odds when highly principled, knowledgeable, and committed people appeal for justice," said Judge Bernice Donald, U. S. District Court, Western District of Tennessee. "In securing access to justice for those most in need of protection from discrimination - including, at times, discrimination within the legal system itself - Bryan Stevenson and ERRC assist oppressed minorities in developing the voice and arguments they need to demand equal justice under law. Their work is a model for human rights advocacy and presents a compelling case for the necessity of focusing on and developing public interest law in legal education and practice."

The Gruber Foundation Justice Prize is presented to individuals or organizations for contributions that have advanced the cause of justice as delivered through the legal system. The award is intended to acknowledge individual efforts, as well as to encourage further advancements in the field and progress toward bringing about a fundamentally just world.

Members of the committee that selected the 2009 Justice Prize recipients:
•Giuseppe Bisconti, Studio Legale Bisconti
•Arthur Chaskalson, Constitutional Court of South Africa (Ret.)
•Param Cumaraswamy, Barrister-at-law at Inner Temple, London
Advocate and Solicitor in Kuala Lumpur
•Bernice Donald, U. S. District Court, Western District of Tennessee
•Carmen Maria Argibay, Supreme Court of Justice of Argentina
•Martin Lee, Office of Mr. Martin C. M. Lee, QC., SC

The Gruber International Prize Program honors contemporary individuals in the fields of Genetics, Neuroscience, Justice, Women's Rights and Cosmology (2009 Cosmology Prize recipient info: http://www. gruberprizes. org/GruberPrizes/Cosmology_LaureateOverview. php? awardid=49 (http://www. gruberprizes. org/GruberPrizes/Cosmology_LaureateOverview. php? awardid=49)), whose groundbreaking work provides new models that inspire and enable fundamental shifts in knowledge and culture. The Selection Advisory Boards choose individuals whose contributions in their respective fields advance our knowledge, potentially have a profound impact on our lives, and, in the case of the Justice and Women's Rights Prizes, demonstrate courage and commitment in the face of significant obstacles.

The tenth anniversary of the Prize Program will be celebrated on July 1, 2009, in an event at Rockefeller University in New York City. The event will include a symposium entitled "DNA, the Brain, and Society," featuring distinguished scientists David Botstein, Linda Buck, Fred Gage, and Solomon Snyder. To attend the event or to obtain additional information, visit http://www. gruberprizes. org/GruberPrizes/TenthAnniversary. php (http://www. gruberprizes. org/GruberPrizes/TenthAnniversary. php).

Newman's Own®, Inc. Sponsors Expansion of Team Hole in the Wall

Newman's Own®, Inc. Sponsors Expansion of Team Hole in the Wall

Runners and Cyclists Challenge Themselves to Send More Kids to Paul Newman's Hole in the Wall Camps

Westport, CT (PRWEB) April 20, 2009

When their feet hit the pavement at the Boston Marathon today, 85 Team Hole in the Wall athletes were motivated by more than the thrill of the race. Each ran with a goal to raise sufficient funds to send a seriously ill child to one of Paul Newman's Hole in the Wall Camps. Beginning today, Newman's Own®, Inc. joins the effort as a national sponsor, enabling the Team to recruit and connect more athletes with the mission of Hole in the Wall Camps worldwide: to provide children with serious illnesses and conditions a camping experience of the highest quality, while extending year-round support to their families and health care providers.

Paul Newman's Hole in the Wall Camps is the largest family of camps for children with serious medical conditions. The Camps offer children hope and healing through therapeutic recreation, universally accessible activities, and round-the-clock medical care. Camp services help restore a sense of normalcy to lives turned upside down by serious illness, and it is all done free of charge.

Team Hole in the Wall participants have raised more than $4.2 million since the program's inception in 2004. Thanks to the Team, thousands of children have enjoyed empowering and life-affirming experiences at Hole in the Wall Camps across the globe. As a national sponsor, support from Newman's Own, Inc. will be used to recruit and support additional runners and cyclists to help more kids to attend all 13 Hole in the Wall Camps. The Camps that comprise the global Association of Hole in the Wall Camps include: Camp Boggy Creek, FL; Double H Ranch, NY; Flying Horse Farms, OH; The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp, CT; The Painted Turtle, CA; Roundup River Ranch, CO; Victory Junction, NC; Barretstown, Ireland; Bátor Tábor, Hungary; Dynamo Camp, Italy; L'Envol, France; Jordan River Village, Israel; and Over the Wall, UK.

"What began with a handful of runners and cyclists supporting The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp in Connecticut has become a national and international endeavor," observes Mike Smiles, chief development officer at The Hole in the Wall Gang Fund, Inc. "This national sponsorship from Newman's Own, Inc. will help share the Team Hole in the Wall athletic fundraising initiative that partners athletes with the mission of the Hole in the Wall Camps," according to Smiles.

Hole in the Wall Camps are independently funded and operate entirely on charitable contributions to provide fee-free services to children, families and healthcare providers. Each marathoner has a goal of raising at least $3,000, enough to send one child to a Camp for a week.

"The Team is all about people on the move to help more seriously ill children experience the joy and transformational power of the Camps. Newman's Own is proud to sponsor this growing team of marathoners and cyclists who are all challenging themselves to help the kids," according to Mike Havard, vice president of marketing, Newman's Own, Inc.

Each Teammate has a personal and powerful story about why he or she participates as a Team Hole in the Wall athlete. From doctors to construction workers, teachers to firefighters, thousands of individuals are taking action to support the brave and beautiful children around the world. "It's a very powerful tapestry of devoted individuals," observes Matthew Cook, camp director at The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp. "The Teammates, like the children and families in our care, are an inspiration to our staff. To run with them in support of our mission is an absolute thrill." Cook is among a growing contingent of Hole in the Wall Camp staffers, volunteers, and board members who have joined the Team for marathon and cycling events.

Team Hole in the Wall offers an ambitious schedule of marathon and half-marathon events that include the Boston Marathon, London Marathon, Chicago Marathon, Berlin Marathon, Marine Corps Marathon, New York City Marathon and a number of regional marathons throughout the United States. The Team provides guaranteed race entries and also produces a series of cycling events to empower athletes to make a difference in the lives of children and families coping with serious illnesses. The AngelRide cycling series is currently available in Connecticut. For more information about Team Hole in the Wall and ways to participate, visit www. teamholeinthewall. org.

Long-time QHR Hospital Client Cary Medical Center Recognized with Top Leadership Team Award

Long-time QHR Hospital Client Cary Medical Center Recognized with Top Leadership Team Award

QHR hospital client Cary Medical Center in Caribou, Maine, was recently named a winner in the 6th Annual HealthLeaders Media "Top Leadership Teams in Healthcare" program. Cary Medical Center, under the leadership of QHR veteran and hospital CEO Kris Doody, RN, was recognized in the Small Hospitals category for 2009.

Brentwood, Tenn. (PRWEB) September 17, 2009

QHR (http://www. qhr. com) hospital client Cary Medical Center in Caribou, Maine, was recently named a winner in the 6th Annual HealthLeaders Media "Top Leadership Teams in Healthcare" program.

Cary Medical Center (http://www. carymedicalcenter. org), under the leadership of QHR veteran and hospital CEO Kris Doody, RN, was recognized in the Small Hospitals category for 2009.

"This is a tremendous honor for Cary Medical Center and its dedicated leadership team. Kris Doody, in particular, has done so many great things for Cary Medical Center and the hospital industry as a whole. Her dedication to advocacy - on the part of both hospitals and patients - is commendable," said QHR President and CEO James L. Horrar (http://qhr. com/about/executive_profiles/).

According to Doody, her senior management team's success is attributable to "remarkable longevity," including some 150 years of combined management experience and more than 100 years of service to Cary Medical Center specifically. Longevity, coupled with a true understanding of the word team, has led the hospital through the challenges and opportunities of rural hospital care, she said.

"The unique environment of rural healthcare demands the very best of senior leadership. Today, a hospital must be more than a hospital - it must be a business leader and strong community partner," Doody said. "At Cary Medical Center, many members of our team are native to Maine. We understand the needs of our community and the 'Community Benefit' role we play - medically, economically, socially and even civically. We also understand that every decision we make must be tied to our vision to create a healthier community.

"We are honored and humbled to receive this award. It is a testament to each member of our management team and to the strength and ongoing commitment of our entire workforce."

According to HealthLeaders Media, the "Top Leadership Teams in Healthcare" program is designed to celebrate the outstanding teamwork that occurs in healthcare organizations each day, to share what makes top leadership teams successful, and to encourage other healthcare leaders to learn more from the best practices of top leadership teams. Winners are judged on the team's overall leadership culture, its ability to overcome challenges, and its ability to demonstrate successes that result from outstanding leadership teamwork. Only one winner per category receives this national honor each year.

Full profiles of the "Top Leadership Teams in Healthcare" winners and their teamwork lessons will be featured in the December issue of HealthLeaders magazine. The 2009 honorees will also be featured speakers at the annual HealthLeaders 09: Hospital of the Future Now conference, to be held Oct. 15-16 at The Palmer House in Chicago.

About Cary Medical Center CEO Kris Doody
A long-standing champion for healthcare accessibility, affordability and quality, Kris Doody began her career in healthcare as a volunteer candy striper at Cary Medical Center while in her teens; this activity began her unique climb to Cary Medical Center's top administrative position. Doody next became a certified nurse's aide at the hospital, and then continued her education to become one of the hospital's registered nurses - with a degree from the University of Maine in 1983. She was later named manager of surgical services. In 1994, Doody was promoted to the position of chief operating officer at Cary Medical Center and then, in 1999, to the position of chief executive officer. During her time as COO, Doody also earned a master's degree in business from Husson College.

In addition to serving as CEO of Cary Medical Center, Doody is chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Maine Hospital Association. She is also actively involved in the State of Maine Community College System, serving as a member of its Board of Directors and incoming Board chair; the Board of Directors for Husson University; and the American Hospital Association Regional Policy Board. Doody is a recipient of the ACHE Early Career Regents Award and has been named an "Up and Comer" by Modern Healthcare, "Woman of the Year" by the Maine Business and Professional Women's Association, and "Alumnus of the Year" by the University of Maine at Presque Isle.

Cary Medical Center is a 65-bed acute care hospital located in Caribou, Maine - America's most northeastern city. A national leader in clinical quality care and patient safety, the hospital's campus features a Veterans Administration outpatient clinic, and a state veterans' home and residential care facility. (PRWEB) September 8, 2005

According to e-MiniBlinds. com, vinyl blinds are the perfect choice for high-humidity locations such as kitchens, bathrooms, or waterfront homes. Horizontal vinyl blinds with standard braided cord blinds and non-textured gloss slats are easy to clean, unbreakable and highly resistant to sun bleaching.

Richly textured embossed prints, elegant neutrals, and wood tones add a decorative dimension not typically found in horizontal blinds. They are available in both solid colors and faux embossed finishes, and are available in a wide variety of larger slat sizes from 2-3 inches (dependent on manufacturer). PVC blinds are a durable and fashionable solution as a window treatment - remaining durable and easy to maintain regardless of humidity or other factors.

According to e-MiniBlinds. com, lightweight vinyl blinds are the least expensive blind available, but the thin slats can sag, the cords shred and the mechanisms break.

Vinyl mini-blinds retail at $7.99 and $5.99 on sale. The step-up room darkening mini blind, a better quality product with less space in between the slats, runs as high as $10.99.

Some imported vinyl blinds contain lead, a health hazardous substance. Lead poisoning is especially acute for pregnant women or young children because of their fast growing vulnerable tissue. Vinyl blinds produced in the United States are lead-free.

Harvey Hartman to Present Insights on Consumer Health Related Trends at Healthcare Retail '07 Conference

Harvey Hartman to Present Insights on Consumer Health Related Trends at Healthcare Retail '07 Conference

Harvey Hartman, CEO of The Hartman Group, will provide a strategic address on the evolution of healthcare driven consumer trends.

Orlando, Florida (PRWEB) March 7, 2007

The healthcare industry's annual conference focused on retail initiatives, Healthcare Retail '07, (www. HealthcareRetail07.com) announced today that Harvey Hartman, CEO of The Hartman Group, will provide a strategic address on the evolution of healthcare driven consumer trends. Healthcare Retail '07 takes place on April 12 & 13, 2007 at the Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress Resort in Orlando, Florida.

A celebrated author, business school lecturer and former Fortune 500 senior executive, Harvey Hartman is a nationally recognized expert on American cultural change and the consumer activities that impact daily business products and services.

"Harvey was our top rated presenter from last year's conference. We are excited he will be speaking again this year and are looking forward to his new insights on the fast changing world of health-driven consumerism. Hospitals leaders focused on the consumer driven healthcare movement won't want to miss his talk," stated Tony Paquin, CEO of The Paquin Group.

Hartman plans to conduct an in-depth study on hospital-based healthcare retail trends in collaboration with The Paquin Group and eight major hospital groups in 2007. He is expected to discuss the design and intent of the study while at the Conference.

The Healthcare Retail '07 Conference is sponsored by The Paquin Group, the leading specialist in healthcare retail initiatives. Healthcare Retail '07 is the premier meeting event for hospitals and healthcare organizations considering or currently implementing a retail strategy. The sale of healthcare related products generates revenues of more than $400 billion annually.

The conference covers a complete range of healthcare retail topics and delivers specific information on how to assess and implement healthcare retail systems to capture a portion of this burgeoning market. These include hospital retail locations, e-commerce solutions, branding strategies, loyalty cards, private label brands, in-room education/television technology and medical day spas.

"With the continuing trend towards integration of health and wellness-related products and services across traditional retail channels and the continued emergence and evolution of the health and wellness-conscious consumer, there has never been a time so ripe for hospitals and healthcare systems to sharpen their focus and innovate their retail offerings,” said Hartman.

Hartman has consulted with major pharmaceutical, food and packaged goods companies in developing both strategic and tactical direction in today's marketplace. He has worked with non profits, such as Mothers and Others for a Livable Planet, and has consulted to numerous NGO and governmental organizations such as the EPA, FDA, USDA, World Wildlife Fund, Co-op America and The Food Alliance.

He started The Hartman Group in 1989, which today is a full-service strategic consultancy and market insights provider specializing in the health and wellness marketplace. Over the past 18 years the company’s work has reignited ailing brands, redirected retail strategies and successfully informed new product development for clients ranging from mainstream retailers such as Wal-Mart to large natural products retailers, to restaurants like McDonald’s, as well as large consumer packaged goods companies and service providers.

"Retail in healthcare is now seen as an important strategy for hospitals and healthcare systems to generate new, non-reimbursed sources of revenue," states Paquin. Registration and other information for the conference can be found at www. HealthcareRetail07.com or by calling 407-566-1333.

Bayer HealthCare Announces New 2000 IU Vial Size for Kogenate® FS Treatments

Larger vial size, new Grab & Go package help to reduce reconstitution time and provide added convenience for people living with hemophilia A

West Haven, CT (PRWEB) June 29, 2007

Bayer HealthCare (http://www. bayerhealthcare. com) announces today the availability of a new 2000 IU (http://www. kogenatefs. com) (international unit) vial size in the United States for hemophilia A patients treated with Kogenate® FS, Antihemophilic Factor (Recombinant), and Kogenate® FS Antihemophilic Factor (Recombinant), with BIO-SET®, a Needleless Reconstitution System.

The 2000 IU vial size reduces reconstitution time by eliminating the need to mix and pool multiple vials for some patients requiring higher doses. The increased vial size also includes a new one-cut stopper and vial which are designed to simplify handling of reconstituted Kogenate FS.

Grab & Go packaging will debut with the 2000 IU vial size, and soon will be available for 250, 500, and 1000 IU vial sizes of Kogenate FS with BIO-SET.

Patients interested in the new 2000 IU dosage can enjoy immediate access by signing up for the Kogenate FS with BIO-SET Free Trial Program (http://www. kogenatefs. com/POP_trialKit. cfm). Program enrollees* receive a maximum of six free infusions of Kogenate FS with BIO-SET and the accompanying support programs and services available through Bayer HealthCare.

"By reducing reconstitution time, the new 2000 IU vial size aims to make it easier for patients to be compliant with their prescribed treatment," says Terry Tenbrunsel, Vice President, Sales and Marketing, Bayer HealthCare.
