E-Coli at Strawberry Festival Plant City Fla. - Was it really the fault of the petting zoo?

E-Coli at Strawberry Festival Plant City Fla. - Was it really the fault of the petting zoo?

E-Coli can be found in bad hamburgers and chicken as well as dirty petting zoos. Simple steps need to taken to protect your children.

(PRWEB) March 31, 2005

Parents are rightfully worried about E-Coli whether or not it was caused by the petting zoo animals or contaminated food such as hamburgers, fried chicken etc.

The best thing for parents to do is get an alcohol based anti-bacterial hand cleaner to use any time a child touches an animal of any kind.

Small children touch and pick up anything and then put their hands to their mouths. They should be supervised closely at these large events.

Don't leave home without the anti-bacterial hand sanitizer(alcohol based only-the other kind doesn't really help).

Your kids love petting the farm animals and most of us do keep our animals healthy and clean. It would really be a shame to keep the children from a hands on encounter with our friendly animals. Kid's need to learn about the natural wonders around them.

The Meadows Health Care Center Receives the Award of Excellence from the Ohio Academy of Nursing Homes

The Meadows Health Care Center Receives the Award of Excellence from the Ohio Academy of Nursing Homes

The coveted Award of Excellence attests that The Meadows Health Care Center meets or exceeds the expectation of providing excellent care for its patients and residents.

Cincinnati, OH (PRWEB) January 29, 2010

The Meadows Health Care Center, a privately owned facility in Forest Park, has received the Award of Excellence once again. The annual award will be presented by the Ohio Academy of Nursing Homes on February 2 at 11 a. m. They have received this award only after meeting or exceeding stringent nursing home requirements. The mission of The Meadows Health Care Center, which provides services for short-term rehabilitation, long-term rehabilitation and permanent resident care, is that the residents always come first.

“Smile at the residents when you walk by them,” says Gretchen Aichele, Director of Marketing for the center. “Just letting them know that someone recognizes them, their needs and cares for them really goes a long way in the emotional well-being of our residents. Their care is our number one concern here.”

But in reality, a lot more goes on at The Meadows Health Care Center than just physical care. They have a large Day Room where residents can go to hang-out and visit with other patients or their family members. They have a monthly Family Night, where all extended family members are invited to come; they have a monthly newsletter featuring their residents and employees; and they have visiting entertainment, Bingo or other games daily and religious services weekly. The Meadows believe that healing is a whole-body experience.

The Award of Excellence is presented to the Health Care Facilities and Nursing Homes in Ohio by the Ohio Academy of Nursing Homes, a 47-year old association which helps nursing homes reach the pinnacle of care for all residents. There are more than 200 nursing homes and rehabilitation centers that are part of that organization. The Meadows is also active in providing representation to legislative bodies concerning the residents, membership and to all of the elderly and infirmed in our State.

The Meadows Health Care Center has an aggressive plan to reach out the community and later this year will be hosting a number of events to let people learn about their center and the excellent care they provide. As our population continues to age, many adult children are searching for elder care for their parents and grandparents. The Meadows Health Care Center has services, excellent facilities and a comprehensive program of health and wellness for their residents.

To attend the Award Ceremony or for detailed information, contact Gretchen Aichele at 513-851-8400 The Meadows Health Care Center is one of three facilities in the Cincinnati area owned by Karen Jamison-Brothers. It is located at 11760 Pellston Court, Forest Park.

Sixteen Leading Dallas Physicians Join Together to Advance Minimally Invasive Surgical Techniques

Sixteen Leading Dallas Physicians Join Together to Advance Minimally Invasive Surgical Techniques

The American Institute of Minimally Invasive Surgery continues to bring together physicians from competing practices to promote the benefits of these procedures

Las Vegas, NV (PRWEB) October 20, 2010

The American Institute of Minimally Invasive Surgery (AIMIS) today announced 16 physicians from five different Dallas-area clinics have joined the organization to take a leadership role in furthering the benefits of minimally invasive procedures in Texas and throughout the nation.

"Many private medical practices, like other businesses, have struggled in our recent economic climate," said Dr. K. Warren Volker, CEO and chairman of AIMIS. "We are very pleased these leaders in the Dallas medical community—many of whom work in competing practices—have come together through AIMIS to promote and advance the many patient benefits of minimally invasive procedures.”

AIMIS is a national organization promoting awareness and providing education programming surrounding the growing number of surgical procedures that can now be performed with minimally invasive techniques. Such procedures involve no large incisions, opting instead for extremely small surgical cuts that enable the insertion of miniature cameras equipped with microscopes and tiny fiber-optic flashlights. Minimally invasive procedures benefit patients through decreased scarring, shorter hospital stays, less pain and dramatically reduced recovery times.

AIMIS works to bring together hospitals, surgeons, medical technology companies, the insurance industry and patients to provide a new platform to promote minimally invasive technologies and offer business solutions, professional education models and other data.

"While we are enthused about all of our members, we are especially pleased these 16 leaders in the Dallas community have come together through AIMIS to promote these techniques—which offer the rare combination of patient benefits and cost savings—rather than building silos of competition, despite the continuing challenges of the economy and the changes in the healthcare marketplace," said Volker.

The 16 physicians and their clinical affiliations are:
 Joseph P Behan, MD (Glen Lakes OB/GYN)  John D. Bertrand, MD (Walnut Hill OB/GYN)  David M. Bookout, MD (Walnut Hill OB/GYN)  Gregory A. Chapman, MD (Health Central Women's Care)  Robert S. Darrow, MD (Glenn Lakes OB/GYN)  Tara A. Dullye, MD (OB/GYN Dallas)  Ted E. Fogwell, MD (OB/GYN Dallas)  Clark Wells Griffith, MD (Health Central Women's Care)  Julie M. Hagood, MD (Walnut Hill OB/GYN)  Ann E. Lutich, MD (Women's Association For OB/GYN)  Jane E. Nokleberg, MD (Walnut Hill OB/GYN)  Hampton B. Richards, MD (Walnut Hill OB/GYN)  James K. Richards, MD (Walnut Hill OB/GYN)  A Jay Staub, MD (Health Central Women's Care)  Jeffrey M. Thurston, MD (Walnut Hill OB/GYN)  Felicia M. Tillman, MD (Health Central Women's Care)

“Every one of us is pleased to join the important mission of AIMIS. Minimally invasive procedures not only reduce costs, they provide dramatically improved patient outcomes,” said Dr. David M. Bookout of Walnut Hill OB/GYN.

In just 2 years, AIMIS has attracted physician members representing hospitals and clinics in 29 states.

About AIMIS
The American Institute of Minimally Invasive Surgery is the nation's pre-eminent educator of minimally invasive surgical techniques. The organization both teaches minimally invasive methods and also supports graduates and members with opportunities where they can find marketing support, consulting services and strategies to help them grow and strengthen their practices. Why People are Living Far Shorter Lives and What to Do About It, According to Controversial Columnist Brian Vaszily

Why People are Living Far Shorter Lives and What to Do About It, According to Controversial Columnist Brian Vaszily

The commonly held belief is that we're living longer lives than ever before. The truth, as renowned marketing expert and columnist Brian Vaszily demonstrates, is that we're living much shorter lives.

Lake Forest, IL (PRWEB) January 10, 2007

People are on a path to live a much shorter life than the generations that came before, according to Brian Vaszily, renowned columnist and marketing expert (http://www. sixwise. com/newsletters/06/04/12/time-deficiency. htm).

And children are on a path to live a much shorter life than today's parents.

Though that contradicts what most people now believe -- that we're living longer lives than ever before -- with supporting data Brian Vaszily demonstrates that "increasing duration of years is not the equivalent of a longer life."

In reality -- that is, when people step back from their lives and honestly consider it with the twelve (12) big questions posed in the "Shorter Lives" piece by Brian Vaszily (http://www. sixwise. com/newsletters/06/04/12/time-deficiency. htm) -- most people feel like they don't have enough time to enjoy life, to experience the things that really matter like family, hobbies and the outdoors.

Furthermore, no matter how much they hope to the contrary, statistics indicate that people have increasingly less time for these meaningful pursuits.

The average American may last 77.6 years or longer, but if an increasing mass of time in those years is spent in anxiety, anger and depression - and many widely publicized studies concur that these states are at all-time highs -- is that really living?

Social Network for Scientists Marks Ten Years Online

Social Network for Scientists Marks Ten Years Online

The Science Advisory Board, a professional social network of more than 34,000 scientists, celebrates its ten year anniversary.

ARLINGTON, VA (PRWEB) September 14, 2007

The Science Advisory Board (http://www. scienceboard. net (http://www. scienceboard. net)), a professional social network of more than 34,000 scientists, celebrates its ten year anniversary - making it one of the most enduring communities on the Web.

The Science Advisory Board is a division of BioInformatics, LLC (http://www. gene2drug. com (http://www. gene2drug. com)), a research and advisory firm serving more than 300 clients in the life science, biotechnology, pharmaceutical, IT, scientific publishing and finance industries.

The Science Advisory Board Website was unveiled on September 12, 1997 and began to immediately recruit qualified scientists. From the start, the goal has been to bridge the gap between the manufacturers and end-users of instruments, products and services used in advanced biological research and drug discovery.

The idea behind the creation of this dynamic online community was that the traditional concept of a scientific advisory board often fails to accurately reflect the experiences, preferences and unmet needs of those professionals who actually use the products manufactured by industry. By utilizing the Web as a communications medium, The Science Advisory Board provides life scientists "in the trenches" with a prominent voice that helps drive the development of new tools and technologies for basic and applied research.

Scientists accepted for membership on the Board reap both professional and personal rewards. The Website boasts tens of thousands of pages of user-generated content in the form of scientific white papers, blogs, and a discussion forum where scientists can seek and offer advice. Members also submit reviews of hundreds of new products, books, databases and Websites. Through a unique rewards program, members accumulate ViewPoints each time they participate in The Science Advisory Board's activities. Qualified scientists can also earn additional ViewPoints and other honoraria by sharing their expertise and opinions with industry through consultations, surveys and focus groups. ViewPoints can then be redeemed for gifts or in the form of charitable donations.

The Science Advisory Board was a pioneer in utilizing the Internet to facilitate communications between professionals with special expertise. As similar companies such as IT Toolbox (http://www. ittoolbox. com (http://www. ittoolbox. com)) and Sermo (http://www. sermo. com (http://www. sermo. com)) carve out strong positions in IT and healthcare respectively, The Science Advisory Board remains the premier online community serving the life sciences.

"A decade before people started talking about Web 2.0, our philosophy has always been to provide our members with the online tools that help them conduct their research more effectively," commented Tamara Zemlo, Ph. D., M. P.H., and Chair of the Board's Steering Committee. "By enabling scientists to collaborate with each other and to share their experiences with the community, we have created an indispensable resource used daily in labs around the world."

About the Science Advisory Board

The Science Advisory Board (http://www. scienceboard. net (http://www. scienceboard. net)) is an online panel of more than 34,000 scientists and biomedical researchers from 62 countries. Members are experts on the cutting edge of their disciplines and available to share in-depth knowledge of related technologies and discuss emerging trends. While their technical capabilities are broad given the multidisciplinary nature of biological research, clients can also gain deep insights into their specific areas of expertise. These areas of expertise include-but are not limited to-bioinformatics, biotechnology, cell biology, drug discovery, genetics, immunology, microbiology, molecular biology, neuroscience, pharmacology, physiology, and virology.

About Bioinformatics, LLC

BioInformatics, LLC (http://www. gene2drug. com (http://www. gene2drug. com)) is the premier research and consulting firm serving the life science tools industry. By leveraging our global social network of tens of thousands of biomedical researchers, we have supported more than 300 companies and provided insights that lead to better business decisions. Clients include instrumentation manufacturers, pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies as well as scientific publishers, IT vendors and investment analysts. A Professor of Nursing Examines the Mind/Body/Spirit Connection

A Professor of Nursing Examines the Mind/Body/Spirit Connection

Explore how the mind, body and spirit all connect to aid healing in nurse Helen L. Erickson’s Modeling and Role-Modeling: A View From the Client’s World

Cedar Park, Texas (PRWEB) June 11, 2006

In professor Helen L. Erickson’s Modeling and Role-Modeling: A View From the Client’s World, health care providers can explore how the mind, body and spirit all interact to affect health and quality of life, enabling them to better help their clients grow and heal.

What makes a great health care provider? Erickson takes a holistic view, suggesting that optimum care requires an understanding that there is a connection between mind, body and spirit. Using the Modeling and Role-Modeling (MRM) theory, she emphasizes that caregivers must discover the individual client’s perspective and model their care accordingly.

Under Erickson’s guidance, contributors to her book give directions on how to put this theory into practice. Divided into three sections, Modeling and Role-Modeling: A View From the Client’s World first explores the mind/body/spirit connection and how to discover our life purpose. The next section clarifies various constructs, such as heart to heart connections, and explores factors that help or impede growth. The last section addresses the healing of traumatic occurrences.

We are spiritual beings first, says Erickson, and we should be fearless in sharing our spirit with others, and addressing our own needs as well as the needs of those for whom we care. This is a book that helps people grow, develop, heal, and most importantly, discover their true selves.

Breaking Zogby/O’Leary Poll Shows a Sizable Majority of Americans Agree on Eight Critical Health Care Issues

Breaking Zogby/O’Leary Poll Shows a Sizable Majority of Americans Agree on Eight Critical Health Care Issues

As the White House and congressional Democrats attempt to revive their embattled health care reform plan, a breaking new Zogby International/O’Leary Report poll shows that a strong majority of Americans agree on eight critical health care issues. On five health care-related issues, 70 Percent of Americans have put their partisan differences aside, and on three other issues a majority of Americans agree by a 2-1 margin with what’s right for America on health care reform.

Washington, DC (Vocus) September 15, 2009

As the White House and congressional Democrats attempt to revive their embattled health care reform plan, a breaking new Zogby International/O’Leary Report poll shows that a strong majority of Americans agree on eight critical health care issues. On five health care-related issues, 70 Percent of Americans have put their partisan differences aside, and on three other issues a majority of Americans agree by a 2-1 margin with what’s right for America on health care reform.

The Zogby/O’Leary Poll surveyed 4,426 likely voters on September 4-8 and has a margin-of-error of plus-or-minus 1.5 percentage points. Below are the health care questions on which strong majorities of voters agree:

1. Currently, Americans may only purchase health insurance from a provider licensed in their state. Some say that Americans should be allowed to purchase health insurance from providers in different states possibly creating more competition and driving down the price of health insurance. Do you agree or disagree?

Agree 82.8%
Disagree 6.9%
Not sure 10.2%

2. Currently, medical malpractice insurance costs doctors in some areas of the country up to $200,000 per year, a cost that doctors pass on to their patients in the form of higher fees for service. Do you agree or disagree that tort reform is needed?

Agree 78.5%
Disagree 12.4%
Not sure 9.1%

3. Do you support or oppose taxing employer-provided health care benefits?

Support 12.6%
Oppose 77.3%
Not sure 10.1%

4. There are currently 26 million Americans age 18 and older who can afford to purchase health insurance, but choose not to purchase it for a variety of reasons. There are also 12 million illegal immigrants in America who lack health insurance. Do you think taxes should be raised to fund a government-run health insurance program for these people?

Yes 15.2%
No 75.0%
Not sure 9.8%

5. Do you agree or disagree that the federal government should require all Americans to purchase health insurance, or face a fine?

Agree 18.5%
Disagree 70.2%
Not sure 11.3%

6. Do you agree or disagree that health insurers should be allowed to restrict coverage or charge higher premiums for patients with pre-existing conditions?

Agree 19.9%
Disagree 68.7%
Not sure 11.5%

7. President Obama is promoting a new government agency called the “Independent Medicare Advisory Council,” and some people believe this agency should use its powers to deny payment for procedures it deems unnecessary or futile. Others say that such power would interfere with the doctor-patient relationship. Do you support or oppose the creation of an “Independent Medicare Advisory Council?”

Support 30.6%
Oppose 58.8%
Not sure 10.7%

8. Do you agree or disagree that Americans who lose or leave their jobs should be able to stay on their previous employer’s health insurance plan?

Agree 54.6%
Disagree 25.1%
Not sure 20.3%

“Congress should put forward a health care reform plan that addresses these eight issues on which most Americans agree,” said Brad O’Leary, publisher of The O’Leary Report. “In particular, tort reform and permitting Americans to purchase health insurance across state lines have near universal appeal with voters. New taxes, on the other hand, are almost universally opposed.”

Brad O’Leary is publisher of “The O’Leary Report,” a bestselling author, and is a former NBC Westwood One talk show host. Northeast Center for Special Care The Eyes of Wellness 2009 Calendar Showcases Artists with Brain Injury and Other Disorders

Northeast Center for Special Care The Eyes of Wellness 2009 Calendar Showcases Artists with Brain Injury and Other Disorders

Northeast Center for Special Care presents The Eyes of Wellness, a unique 12-month calendar for 2009 showcasing the artwork of individuals with traumatic brain injury and other disorders, is now available as a free download.

Lake Katrine, NY (PRWEB) January 28, 2009

The Eyes of Wellness, a unique 12-month calendar for 2009 showcasing the artwork of Resident-Neighbors at Northeast Center for Special Care, is now available as a free download.

Northeast Center for Special Care is a specialty rehabilitation program for traumatic brain injury, neurobehavioral disorders, spinal cord injury, respiratory care and ventilator weaning located in the town of Lake Katrine in a state-of-art, 209,000 sq. ft. therapeutic community center in Ulster County, NY.

The Eyes of Wellness Calendar is a 12-month calendar designed like a Mandela, the ancient Sanskrit model of spirituality and wellness, used by many cultures around the world over the centuries. The calendar is elliptical and geometric, and includes a sacred center, a middle section and a protective boundary, as typically found in Mandalas, separated by, yet integrated with rhythmic borders.

Based on the Mandela design, the calendar displays selected original artworks by Northeast Center Resident-Neighbor artists in the center of each monthly calendar page. The individual calendar month pages are designed to be attached to the center of the calendar cover, making a new spiritual Mandala for each month of the year. The 2009 calendar speaks to viewers moving through their daily activities with symbolism of wellness and hope.

Ann Belcher, CEO of Northeast Center for Special Care noted, "The 2009 calendar celebrates the artistic achievements of individuals with traumatic brain injury and other disorders and illustrates Northeast Center's use of innovative and specialized rehabilitation approaches integrated with traditional therapies."

The calendar's stunning original artwork was created in the Northeast Center Art Studio, a large atrium, naturally lit, filled with easels, tables and high-quality art supplies. "The Art Studio's nurturing, lively space encourages trust in creative journeys through drawing, painting, sculpture, collage and environment building," said Northeast Center's Fine Art Director Susan Togut, MFA, who coordinated the calendar project.

As individuals create art, physical, cognitive, social and psychological skills grow, the Art Studio comes alive with diverse expressions of beauty and integrity, creating a communal atmosphere that inspires all who enter. California Car Cover is Growing Awareness of Movember: The Company is Offering Special Deals and Promotions to Those Who Support its Efforts to Raise Awareness About Prostate Cancer

The rules are simple, start Movember 1st clean-shaven and then grow a moustache for the entire month. The moustache becomes the ribbon for men's health, the means by which awareness and funds are raised for cancers that affect men. Much like the commitment to run or walk for charity, the men of Movember commit to growing a moustache for 30 days.

"I participated in Movember on my own last year and had so much fun that I started campaigning for employees here to grow moustaches this time around," said Tony DeFrank, California Car Cover's Executive Director and proudest moustache owner. "In fact, our company will be matching all funds raised through our website to support Movember."

"It is entertaining to walk around our office and see quite a few fellow employees growing some moustaches, " added DeFrank. the women in our office are not sure what to think, but they know it is for a good cause."

Money raised during Movember benefits the LIVESTRONG Foundation and the Prostate Cancer Foundation.

Additionally, anyone that makes a donation of over $5.00 will receive some Golden Shine car care decals and a limited edition moustache key chain made of actual car cover material. MediClick for the Supply Chain Brings Agility into the Requisition Approval Process

MediClick for the Supply Chain Brings Agility into the Requisition Approval Process

Users of MediClick for the Supply Chain can now eliminate bottlenecks in their requisition approval process thanks to two new product enhancements made in Sprint 023, MediClick’s second product release of 2010.

Raleigh, NC (Vocus) September 14, 2010

Users of MediClick for the Supply Chain can now eliminate bottlenecks in their requisition approval process thanks to two new product enhancements made in Sprint 023, MediClick’s second product release of 2010.

MediClick, the leading provider of Software-as-a-Service supply chain solutions in the healthcare industry, has updated its software tool so a user can approve different dollar amounts for different types of products. Previously, users were only authorized to sign off on requisitions up to a certain dollar value regardless of the product.

“A hospital’s standard cardiac catheter, for example, is more expensive than a box of exam gloves,” says Don Boss, vice president of supply chain strategy at MediClick. “Instead of routing a request for cardiac catheters up the chain of personnel until it is accepted, the same individual who has a lower approval limit on commodity items can now sign off on the more expensive cardiac items.”

This new feature requires less people in the process so requisitions move through faster, resulting in a more rapid response to hospital needs.

Also eliminating the bottleneck in this process is a new department-level approval structure. Instead of specifying one person to create a requisition, multiple users in a department can do it.

“It’s like a communal workbox that keeps requests flowing; before they would stack up waiting for one individual,” says Al Burks, senior implementation consultant for MediClick. “This makes the requisition approval process quicker and more efficient, thus increasing productivity in the entire hospital.”

YourPrivacy Launches Innovative Power Training: 10 Steps to Saving Your Reputation

YourPrivacy Launches Innovative Power Training: 10 Steps to Saving Your Reputation.

Business managers in healthcare, pharmaceuticals, professional practices, human resources, and finances start on their own privacy programs right in the workshop: they can save thousands in consulting fees by having YourPrivacy evaluate strictly their final privacy programs.

Toronto, (PRWEB) November 4, 2004

YourPrivacy is now offering a hands-on workshop that trains business managers to definitely take control over privacy in their companies. Significant benefits of attending include a free one-on-one privacy risk assessment by a Privacy Expert, in-person guidance to jumpstart the participantÂ’s own privacy program, and an evaluation of that privacy program when it is completed (extra charge). Conducted on the second Thursday of every month, the next editions of this full-day training are on November 10, December 8, and January 13. Attendance is $300 per person. Corporate rates and on-site workshop editions are available.

Participants learn to create, implement, and manage their in-house privacy programs through a 10-step process. They learn how to identify the specific privacy requirements of their organizations in the morning, and they learn how to fulfill these requirements in the afternoon. “Our goal is to make it accessible and affordable for business managers to meet their privacy obligations,” says Mario Morel, YourPrivacy’s Founder and President. “Often, only big players can afford a privacy officer on staff. We are offering an alternative for everyone else in the Canadian business arena: access to experienced privacy experts when needed, practical training, and resources.”

A lot of advice has been presented regarding privacy since the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) came into force on January 1, 2004, and because of the Ontario Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA), which entered the scene on November 1, 2004. Now that businesspeople are more aware of their accountability, they need assistance in fulfilling their privacy responsibilities in their day-to-day operations.

Practical knowledge is vital for a business to come out of the privacy confusion and start acting responsibly towards its customers and employees. Independent medical clinics, recruiting agencies, and accounting firms, to name a few, are quite exposed due to the sensitivity and amount of personal information they have in their custody. However, these businesses seldom can consider hiring a privacy officer. This workshop, taught by an active privacy officer presently working with industry leaders, coupled with subsequent expert assistance, may very well be all that is required to shield these entrepreneurs from potential privacy liability.

Jack Shapiro: How Americans Die - Latest Update on Leading Causes of Death

Jack Shapiro: How Americans Die - Latest Update on Leading Causes of Death

Fifteen leading causes of death account for 83% of American mortalities each year. Chief amongst these are heart disease and cancer. Many of these causes of death are a reflection of the aging of our population.

(PRWEB) May 23, 2005

“Based on the latest data available for 2003, heart disease and cancer remain the leading causes of death in the United States,” says Jack Shapiro, healthcare marketing consultant, futurist, broadcast journalist and public speaker.

Fifteen leading causes of death account for 83% of American mortalities each year.

These include:

1) Diseases of the heart;

2) Malignant neoplasms;

3) Cerebrovascular diseases;

4) Chronic lower respiratory diseases;

5) Accidents (unintentional injuries);

6) Diabetes mellitus;

7) Influenza and pneumonia;

8) AlzheimerÂ’s Disease;

9) Nephritis and related diseases;

11) Suicide;

12) Chronic liver disease and cirrhosis;

13) Essential primary hypertension and hypertensive renal disease;

14) ParkinsonÂ’s Disease;

15) Pneumonitis

Shapiro points out that many of these causes of death are a reflection of the aging of our population. ParkinsonÂ’s Disease, for example, appears on this list for the first time as one of the fifteen leading causes of death in the U. S. in 2003. Interestingly, homicide dropped out of the 15 leading causes of death in that year.

EmployeeScreenIQ Partners with eScreen, Introduces Online Drug Screening Solution

EmployeeScreenIQ Partners with eScreen, Introduces Online Drug Screening Solution

Web-based solution eliminates paperwork, enables online scheduling and provides real-time analysis and reporting.

Cleveland, OH (PRWEB) November 16, 2010

Global employment screening provider EmployeeScreenIQ announced today a new Web-based drug testing solution that eliminates chain-of-custody paperwork, enables online scheduling and provides real-time analysis and reporting. The new solution is the result of a partnership with eScreen, a pioneering provider of employment screening technology and Web-based applications.

The pre-integrated and fully-automated drug testing solution drastically accelerates the background screening process by slashing turnaround times through online event scheduling and allows for Web-based, real-time analysis at the collection site and secure, confidential Web reporting to the employer.

Instead of printing chain-of-custody forms and handing them to candidates, who then have to take them to a laboratory, the form is created electronically at the collection location. Once an employee completes their test, results can be obtained within 15 minutes if the results are negative—as opposed to the traditional lab-based model timeframe of 24-48 hours.

The solution is supported by a national network of over 2,300 occupational health clinics that collect and analyze samples and immediately report five-panel results using eScreen's proprietary eCup™ and eReader™ drugs of abuse screening technology. For full details on the service, visit http://employeescreen. com/sascreening. asp.

"This partnership with eScreen not only provides our customers with significant cost savings, but it also streamlines the recruiting and staffing processes by making the background screening experience significantly more efficient," said Nick Fishman, chief marketing officer for EmployeeScreenIQ. "By including a completely paperless chain-of-custody drug testing solution, our customers now have an easy and affordable way to purchase tests online."

About EmployeeScreenIQ

Around Valentine's Day, the thoughts of many Americans, including those soon to retire, turn to love. This raises the question of whether some retirement towns might be more romantic than others. Topping this year's list are Ashland, Oregon; Boulder, Colorado; Santa Fe, NM; Las Vegas, NV; Naples, FL; Hanover, NH; Burlington, VT; Savannah, GA; Charleston, SC; and Annapolis, MD. These towns are ranked on the basis of the beauty of their landscapes, climatic characteristics, quality of life, cost of living, and romantic appeal.

While places like Burlington, VT may not rate high on your romantic list, according to Bland "Burlington occupies a lovely site on several natural terraces overlook Lake Champlain and New York's Adirondack Mountains".

Subutex is an FDA-approved outpatient treatment for addiction to narcotics (opiates), such as Vicodin, Oxycontin, methadone and morphine. It is used for San Ramon, Oakland and Northern California addiction treatment to prevent relapse and decrease withdrawal symptoms.

"The statistics from our practice illustrate very clearly that people can overcome substance addiction," says Dr. Richard Gracer. "It is important to note that we are able to achieve such high success rates because we combine several treatment protocols. It's about more than using medications to break the addiction -- we must also treat any underlying disorders such as depression or bipolar syndrome and offer counseling through a carefully constructed support group environment."

Part of the success patients are able to achieve at the Gracer Medical Group is due to the highly-qualified medical professionals who are devoted to innovative, effective approaches to pain management and addiction treatment for San Ramon, Oakland, Sacramento and other Northern California residents. The practice recently welcomed 2 new staff members, whose full biographies are available on the practice's Web site (www. gracermedicalgroup. com).

Glen Taylor, MD, is certified by both the American Board of Pain Medicine and the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. He has helped to develop chemical dependency programs for national healthcare providers and has served on boards and societies focused on addiction treatment and prevention. Dr. Taylor is a specialist with Gracer Behavioral Health Services.

Jeri Stegman, MA, RAS, has over 20 years of experience in providing behavioral health services. She has worked in an innovative, intensive outpatient program, successfully treating substance abuse patients with co-occurring mental health disorders. Ms. Stegman uses her wealth of addiction treatment experience to provide counseling services as part of a cutting edge team at the Gracer Medical Group.

"These medical professionals are at the top of their fields," adds Dr. Gracer. "Our patients can count on being offered the latest treatment options from skilled professionals who have in-depth medical knowledge and who provide the personalized care needed to deliver effective results."

Substance Abuse Treatment Available for Pregnant Women

Substance Abuse Treatment Available for Pregnant Women

Pregnant women who are addicted to drugs have special treatment needs. Save the Babies, a program of fered by Miracles in Recovery of San Bernardino, offers an intensive perinatal residential treatment program.

San Bernardino, CA (PRWEB) August 31, 2006

Women who are pregnant and abusing drugs have a safe place where they can be treated for their addictions.

Save the Babies, part of the Miracles in Recovery program, offers an intensive perinatal residential treatment program for 12 pregnant women.

“Pregnant women have special treatment needs,” said Beverly Smith,

Executive Director of Miracles in Recovery. “This program offers the specialized treatment they need, and makes sure they and their babies are off to a good start once the addiction is treated.”

These women will live with up to five others who are also pregnant and in treatment or recovery, in one of two homes maintained by Miracles in Recovery. These homes are licensed by the state, and are staffed 24 hours a day.

This service is the key component of Miracles in Recovery’s “Save the Babies” campaign. Women in the program will also receive prenatal care, and health care for them and their babies after the birth.

Many of the clients will be minority women. Miracles in Recovery is part of a consortium of social service and health care agencies working together to increase the number of African-American and Latino women receiving prenatal care, which will help decrease infant mortality and low birth weights.

“Our program gives pregnant women of every race and nationality the help they need to make sure their baby comes into the world healthy,” Smith said.

Besides making sure they and their babies are healthy, the pregnant women who are treated through Miracles in Recovery have access to resources they need to succeed in a drug-free lifestyle. This aspect of the program is similar to that offered at six transitional living homes operated by Miracles in Recovery.

The treatment program offers individual and group counseling, education about drug addiction and preventing relapses, 12-Step programs such as Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous meetings especially designed for pregnant women, parenting classes, life skills classes, yoga and health education, including stages of pregnancy and infant development. Former clients who are now living independently can also use most of these resources.

Pregnant women may stay in the treatment program until two months after the birth of their baby. After treatment, if they need additional help before living on their own, they can stay in one of Miracles in Recovery’s transitional living homes for women and children.

At that point, older children who were in the custody of Child Protective Services or the Department of Children’s Services can be re-united with them.

Several times a year, Miracles in Recovery offers social events for anyone who is a recovering drug addict. The next event they will take part in is the Fourth Annual Recovery Happens Walk, with other recovery programs and the San Bernardino County Department of Behavioral Health, Alcohol and Drug Services.

Miracles in Recovery was established in 2001 with one transitional living residence. It has since grown to five homes, two for the pregnant women in recovery, and homes for men, women and women with children in transitional living.
