The Linux High Availability Life Preserver for Business Continuity: SteelEye LifeKeeper

The Linux High Availability Life Preserver for Business Continuity: SteelEye LifeKeeper

SteelEye Technology provides Linux high availability solution to protect critical operations and business continuity for web retailer, I Want One of Those.

Palo Alto, CA (PRWEB) October 21, 2007

Stuff you don't need... but you really, really want is the theme of I Want One of Those, a web-based gift retailer headquartered in the UK. Ensuring that web shoppers can find and buy things they want around-the-clock is a top IWOOT priority and recently led to the implementation of a new Linux high availability business continuity solution based on SteelEye Technology's (steeleye. com) LifeKeeper Protection Suite for Linux.

IWOOT, as it is colloquially known, has an enormous selection of constantly updated gifts with sales in 2006 surpassing $20 million. There is a substantial IT component to its business. Sagar Vadher, head of IT at IWOOT, explains that he uses industry standard X86 servers running a mix of Windows and Linux with PC workstations for development, management and monitoring.

As expected, the busiest time of the year is the Christmas period which puts an increasing strain on the core Postgres database system handling online transactions and its continued availability is of great concern.

In the Christmas 2006 trading season, Vadher commented, "The systems were really straining when sales ran up the wall. It was pretty hair-raising. We had people working all hours just to make sure that the systems worked. We don't want to do Christmas like that anymore."

IWOOT decided to redesign its infrastructure for business continuity and choose to migrate to a new ERP system running on two servers in a Linux high availability configuration. For the ERP software, they moved away from a proprietary system based on Uniface to a Java/open source solution, selecting the web-based OfBiz from the Apache Foundation. The application was customized to fit the needs of the business and rechristened jWOOT3. Why did they choose to go an open source route? "We're looking to reduce costs by moving to open source and avoiding ongoing license fees," stated Vadher.

A jWOOT3 server outage could cost over $10,000 per hour of lost revenue as well as affecting customers' perception of the IWOOT brand. Business continuity is a must. For server hardware, Vadher and his team decided to use a high-availability dual HP DL380 server cluster with an MSA500 SAN Storage array, running Novell SuSE Linux Enterprise Server. For software protection, Vadher turned to Open Minds, a specialist disaster recovery and high-availability solutions supplier and SteelEye reseller to assist. According to Vadher, "We spoke to Open Minds and they recommended LifeKeeper from SteelEye Technology. It manages the system and, if the active node crashes, automatically fails over to the second node."

SteelEye Technology's LifeKeeper software constantly monitors the health of critical applications, including the database and servers. On detection of any problem, a recovery process is automatically launched. Typically, this involves restarting the application on another server within the cluster. Because all data associated with the jWOOT3 application resides on shared storage, it is immediately available to the newly active server. LifeKeeper also takes care of switching over all IP addresses, so that current connections are seamlessly moved to the new server.

The LifeKeeper business continuity software has increased IT department productivity in general as well as safeguarding ERP server availability. Vadher explains that they operate in three modes: the production environment; a test environment and a QA mode: "We are continually developing the system. Now we can make a deployment to a live system during business hours if needed. We would have to have done this out of hours before. Now we don't have to worry so much. From October onwards we will have to stop development but we now have the means to deploy to the inactive node and test out system changes. It certainly helps us in the testing process."

Sagar Vadher is delighted with the SteelEye LifeKeeper Linux high availability solution. "LifeKeeper has made life so much easier. Developing with Linux is hard at the best of times. LifeKeeper made it better. It's just absolutely brilliant and makes my team's life easier."

Unlike the gifts highlighted on the IWOOT web site, LifeKeeper is both stuff you need... and really, really want!

Iowan Tackles Everest and More in Unprecedented Adventure

Iowan Tackles Everest and More in Unprecedented Adventure

Charlie Wittmack to embark on 12,000 mile triathlon; global health and education goals.

Des Moines, IA (Vocus) April 1, 2010

Charlie Wittmack (http://www. theworldtri. com/AboutCharlieWittmack. aspx), the first Iowan to climb Mount Everest and who made international news in attempting to swim the English Channel in 2008, made it official today. Wittmack announced that he is undertaking environmental, educational and global health challenges as a legacy to his simultaneous, first-of-its-kind intercontinental triathlon set to launch in July.

Wittmack is a world class adventurer, speaker, educator, attorney and family man. This time, emboldened by a vision and sense of responsibility globally, Wittmack will embark on The World Tri (http://www. theworldtri. com/), an 11-month expedition during which he will launch a maternal health program in gratitude to the Sherpas and their families in Nepal, develop K-12 curriculum for students across the U. S. and beyond, and then swim, bike and run nearly 12,000 miles through 12 countries, an unprecedented feat even for world-caliber triathlon participants.

The World Tri team begins the expedition Sunday, July 11, 2010 and will end Saturday, June 11, 2011. Wittmack’s team includes his wife, Cate and their two-year-old son, James. Also joining him is award-winning journalist Brian Triplett and filmmaker Andy Stoll. Dozens of physicians and medical students will volunteer their time and expertise to assist with the global health efforts.

Wittmack’s goal for The World Tri is to offer motivation to future generations, and inspires them to make a positive impact—no matter how big or small.

“I look at my two-year-old son and think about what kind of a world he’ll inherit,” says Wittmack. “I’ve shifted my focus from the past, which I can’t control, to the future, which I can.”

The World Tri has three pillars – global health, education and the expedition itself.

Global Health
In Nepal, 830 women die for every 100,000 live births, ranking 16th worst in the world. In comparison, the maternal mortality rate is eight women for every 100,000 births in the United States. The World Tri is partnering with the World Health Organization (WHO) and Des Moines University (DMU), a medical school, to develop and implement global health programs to reduce maternal mortality in Nepal.

When The World Tri reaches Kathmandu, Nepal, DMU will provide onsite physicians and medical students to provide training on safe childbearing. With WHO, the White Ribbon Alliance and medical professionals, the team will work with local birth attendants to teach best practices and provide equipment for complicated deliveries with DMU’s state-of-the-art simulators. There will also be a push for public awareness and education.

“Nepal has one of the highest infant mortality rates in Southeast Asia. By getting involved in The World Tri project, Des Moines University’s Global Health program will be able to bring awareness to the problem and provide much-needed public education,” says Dr. Yogesh Shah, Associate Dean, Global Affairs for Des Moines University. “Through training of skilled caregivers and community education, we are optimistic that we can make a big impact on the health of woman while providing our students and the community with educational opportunities.”

Adventure Institute
The World Tri will create interactive curriculum from which students can track the expedition’s progress and engage in science and environmental lessons. Each lesson plan is tailored to the regions explored during The World Tri and confronts participants with a blend of contemporary and traditional earth science issues, including alternative energy, water quality, water scarcity, geology, meteorology, climatology and oceanography.

“I often struggled with connecting the curriculum at school with my everyday life,” says Wittmack. “With The World Tri curriculum, students get to see the results and impact of their decisions in a web-based format that they can relate to.”

The Expedition
When Wittmack was 15, he dreamed of an expedition like this. Now, 17 years later, his dream has expanded to an inspirational vision of reducing Nepal’s maternal mortality rate and also to create state-of-the-art lesson plans for students. However, the physical aspect of The World Tri still exists and is unparalleled.

Wittmack’s expedition includes:
Swimming 220 miles (London, England, to Calais, France; the English Channel itself is only 20 miles)  Biking 11,428 miles (Calais, France, to Kathmandu, Nepal)  Running/Climbing 450 miles (Kathmandu, Nepal, to the summit of Mount Everest)

This isn’t Wittmack’s first time climbing Mount Everest. In 2003, he reached its summit after making two back-to back attempts without food or water during some of the worst weather in the recorded history of the mountain. He is the first Iowan to scale Mount Everest.

The World Tri has received support from such partners as Mercy Medical Center, Des Moines University, the World Health Organization, Pfizer Corporation and others, such as the private donors who are financing the trek itself along with Charlie Wittmack and his family.

“Mercy Medical Center has chosen to partner with Charlie Wittmack because he’s demonstrated an exceptional personal and professional commitment to physical and mental achievement, in addition to his motivational skills with others to reach their business and personal goals, including healthier lifestyles,” explains Joe LeValley, Senior Vice President of Planning and Advocacy at Mercy Medical Center. “Charlie’s quest should be an inspiration to all of us as we strive to create healthier communities.”

The World Tri (http://www. theworldtri. com/) is the vision of Charlie Wittmack. It’s a three-fold initiative to address maternal mortality rates in Nepal, offer interactive curriculum for students that provides real-life solutions, and complete an unprecedented physical challenge. The 11-month expedition will take Charlie and his team nearly 12,000 miles through 12 countries. Visit www. theworldtri. com for more information.

Lollipops Help Lick a Queasy Stomach

Los Angeles (PRWEB) October 28, 2003--– The makers of the popular Preggie Pops are pleased to introduce Queasy Pops, a naturally flavored, specially formulated lollipop that’s shown to be effective in countering the queasiness associated with chemotherapy, radiation and motion sickness.

Queasy Pops were developed by a team of medical professionals intent on providing a healthy and tasty alternative to over-the-counter medicines that often cause drowsiness.

“Queasy Pops are a very safe and natural way to help with any type of medication-induced nausea or motion sickness,” said pharmacologist Tanya Gurvich, Pharm. D.

The health care professionals who developed and stand behind the product searched professional journals, chat rooms and consulted other physicians and nurses prior to releasing the product. Customer discussions led to additional improvements, including the creation of even tastier lollipops. Queasy Pops also alleviate dry mouth, provide quick calories for a nice energy boost and are effective in combating morning sickness.

Queasy Pops are available in the following natural and delicious flavors:

Sour fruits: people often crave sour or tart flavors when they have a queasy stomach. Tart foods also act as an appetite stimulant. Our natural sour fruit lollipops include Sour Raspberry and Sour Lemon. [These flavors might aggravate mouth sores]. Ginger: this popular root has provided medicinal benefits to people all around the world who have known for centuries its ability to quell a queasy stomach. While highly recommended, natural ginger has become scarce in many products due to the arrival of artificial flavorings. The naturally flavored ginger Queasy Pop is the perfect combination of sugar and spice.

Lavender: a most unusual flavor, the same lavender that enhances relaxation in aromatherapy also serves as the basis of our deliciously sweet, flowery and fragrant Lavender Queasy Pop.

Peppermint and Cinnamon: while mostly everyone knows the breath benefits of Mint and Cinnamon, few could guess that these flavors are equally effective in combating nausea. Often used in herbal tea, customers report a reduction of nausea and an overall feeling of relaxation.

Papaya: this healthy and delicious fruit has been used as a medicinal remedy and digestive aid in the Caribbean and Hawaiian Island's for centuries. Our natural papaya lollipop is fragrant, fresh and soothing.

New Research Shows that Activating Brain's "Safety Circuit" Can Buffer Against Stress

New Research Shows that Activating Brain's "Safety Circuit" Can Buffer Against Stress

Researchers have recently discovered a "safety circuit" in the brain which, when activated, helps buffer against stressful and anxiety-provoking events. Psychologist and author Bob Murray, PhD., says that this mechanism is important in healing and preventing depression and anxiety and can be achieved through safe, supportive relationships.

(PRWEB) April 26, 2005

Researchers at Columbia University Medical Center have identified a “safety circuit” in the brain which, when activated, seems to buffer against stressful and anxiety-provoking events, according to a newly-released study in the journal Neuron.

“This new finding has enormous implications for healing anxiety and related disorders, including depression and PTSD,” says psychologist Dr. Bob Murray, co-author of the highly-acclaimed Creating Optimism: A Proven, 7-Step Program for Overcoming Depression (McGraw-Hill, paperback 2005). “The key healing factor is enabling people to activate that safety circuit. In our Uplift Program, we’ve been teaching people how to do just that, and now we have an even greater understanding of that safety mechanism in the brain.”

The Columbia researchers discovered that when mice were in an unsafe situation there was increased activity in a region of the brain called the amygdala, which processes emotions and is activated in fear responses. As long as the mice were in that unsafe situation, nothing would decrease their anxiety.

However, when they were allowed to enter an area where they felt safe, a previously unknown “safety circuit,” which exists deep within the brain, was activated. This area is responsible for the good feelings associated with safety and security and is in a part of the brain responsible for happiness and good feelings.

Once the mice were in the safe space and this area had been activated, then events that normally triggered fear responses in the amygdala had little effect.

In humans with mood disorders, the amygdala is often hyper-active and doesnÂ’t stop sending alarm signals even when danger has passed or is seen to be a false alarm.

According to Dr. Murray, “This finding helps explain why our program has a 94% success rate in follow-up questionnaires. We’ve always realized that feeling safe was the basis for resilience and healing mood disorders, and that humans do this through a network of supportive relationships. We give people highly effective and practical tools for creating secure and trustworthy relationships in their families, at work and with friends, which activate the brain’s innate mechanism for healing.”

The international Uplift Program, which Dr. Murray founded with his partner, Alicia Fortinberry, offers effective solutions to mood disorders that donÂ’t necessarily involve medication, is sponsored by leading healthcare institutions including the University of South Florida and California Institute of Integral Studies.

Vircom Warns Against the Dangers of Purchasing Flu Vaccines Online

Vircom Warns Against the Dangers of Purchasing Flu Vaccines Online

Recent onslaught of spam and email scams marketing flu vaccines makes users more susceptible to fraud and health risks

Montreal (PRWEB) October 24, 2004

Vircom Inc., developer of Modus™ secure email management solutions, cautions email users that online offers for the influenza vaccine are likely to be fraudulent and can pose serious health risks.

With only about 55 million vaccines available for the 2004-05 influenza season, the United States is facing a critical shortage. Not surprisingly, spammers and scammers have been capitalizing on the situation. Bogus offers for the flu vaccine are circulating rampantly over the Internet, and unlicensed vaccines are being sold by unregulated online pharmacies and offshore suppliers - and the ramifications are serious.

Spammers exploiting flu vaccine shortage

"The vaccine shortage has caused some people to become desperate, creating new opportunities for scammers to defraud email users," said Marc Chouinard, head of Vircom's SpamBuster Team. "We've seen a $60 vial of flu vaccine sell online for as much as $800." But Chouinard cautions that just because you can buy vaccines and nasal mist vaccines online doesn't mean you should. "There are no guarantees as to what you're getting. It's just not worth the health risks."

The U. S. Federal Drug Administration (FDA) agrees. Their website offers warnings about the dangers of purchasing drugs and vaccines online, stating that consumers who do are at "increased risk of suffering life-threatening adverse events...from inappropriately prescribed medications, dangerous drug interactions, contaminated drugs, and impure or unknown ingredients found in unapproved drugs."

Despite the wealth of information and legitimate products available over the Internet, Vircom urges people to be extremely wary of products being marketed to them - especially if they're health-related. The FDA supports this viewpoint, stating "The Internet makes it easy for unscrupulous people to sell drugs to patients withoutÂ…safeguards in place. A website may appear to be associated with a legitimate pharmacy when in fact it is not."

For more information about buying medical products online, visit http://www. fda. gov/oc/buyonline/faqs. html (http://www. fda. gov/oc/buyonline/faqs. html).

Visit Vircom's website at www. vircom. com to find out how its line of secure email management solutions can help you eliminate medical-related and other types of spam.

Trinitas Hospital Evaluates Incontinence Problems: Pills or Surgery?

Trinitas Hospital Evaluates Incontinence Problems: Pills or Surgery?

Several options are currently available for women experiencing bladder control and incontinence problems, including incontinence surgery and overactive bladder medication. But according to Trinitas Hospital urogynecologist Labib Edison Riachi, MD, a specialist in advanced pelvic surgery and female urinary incontinence, the two options are not interchangeable.

ELIZABETH, NJ (PRWEB) November 12, 2004

Several options are currently available for women experiencing bladder control and incontinence problems, including incontinence surgery and overactive bladder medication. But according to Trinitas Hospital urogynecologist Labib Edison Riachi, MD, a specialist in advanced pelvic surgery and female urinary incontinence, the two options are not interchangeable.

“Many women experiencing incontinence problems have seen the advertisements for the overactive bladder pills and patches, and incorrectly believe that taking a daily pill can solve their problems,” says Dr. Riachi, the first physician in northern New Jersey and one of the first in the nation to successfully perform the Gynecare TVT-Obturator procedure for female incontinence. “However, the medication is only for women who experience frequent urination or the urge to urinate immediately, not for women with urinary incontinence as a result of muscle weakness or other medical problems.”

Dr. Riachi, who was the first surgeon in New Jersey to perform incontinence surgery using the Boston Scientific Transvaginal Sling, is the founder of the Center for Advanced Pelvic Surgery at Trinitas Hospital.

“In addition, it’s important for women to remember that the pills and patches come with a wide range of side effects, including dry mouth, retention and constipation,” says Dr. Riachi. “The minimally-invasive procedures we perform at Trinitas Hospital can be completed in only 15 minutes, versus a lifetime of taking medication.”

The surgical procedure involves positioning a mesh sling underneath the urethra, creating a supportive sling. The procedure does not require catheterization, and most patients are able to return to normal activities within two days. It is performed under local or regional anesthesia.

Each year, more than 13 million women in the United States experience urinary incontinence, resulting in leakage or accidents. Although incontinence is a condition generally associated with aging, it can be a problem for women of all ages. In fact, one in four women between the ages of 30 to 59 have experienced an episode of incontinence.

Trinitas Hospital also offers specialized physical therapy services targeted to women with pelvic floor and incontinence problems. The rehabilitation services are part of the full complement of pelvic care services offered at the hospital by Dr. Riachi, including biofeedback continence training, evaluation and treatment, and pelvic floor dysfunction services.

Dr. Riachi is a member of the Women's Care Physician's Group, LLC and the Medical Staff of Trinitas Hospital. For further information on Female Urinary Incontinence and the TVT-O procedure at Trinitas Hospital, please call (908) 282-2000.

Well, there's just no where for you to run" sings Nakia, who is still a newcomer to the Austin music scene, but not a stranger to mental illness. Like so many of his peers, Nakia suffers from bi-polar disorder, just one of many conditions that musicians like Nakia can seek affordable treatment for through the SIMS Foundation.

"SIMS saved my life," Nakia says with a smile. It was when Nakia was a contracted employee with very little medical benefits that SIMS was able to offer him access to low-cost therapy and medication that he otherwise would have been forced to try and face life without.

So, when KXAN's Susie Cohen called Nakia to ask if he would be interested in participating in a story to raise awareness about the organization and a fundraiser that would be taking place the following Sunday, Nakia gladly said yes.

"I'm still not at a point where I can give back anything financial to SIMS. I want to, but it's just not an option," Nakia says, "but I can afford some of my time and energy as a volunteer. So, I have been helping out at events and fundraisers. I was thrilled to have an opportunity to speak about SIMS and hopefully some musicians out there watched the interview and made the connection like I did."

Nakia is an Austin-based singer/songwriter and performer. Raised on Southern Gospel, Soul, Country, Classic Rock and 80's Pop in the foothills of the Applachian mountains in Alabama, Nakia moved to Austin in the fall of 2002. Nakia's website, http://www. nakia. net (http://www. nakia. net) features a community based information and download area available to fans and press alike.

Additionally, the blog highlights the benefits of bamboo clothing as well as how these garments contribute to a green lifestyle and a healthy planet.

Nursing Conference Provider Earns Prestigious ANCC Accreditation

Nursing Conference Provider Earns Prestigious ANCC Accreditation

PESI HealthCare, a nationwide provider of continuing education for nurses and other healthcare professionals, recently earned accreditation from the American Nurses Credentialing Center.

Eau Claire, WI (PRWEB) June 17, 2008

PESI HealthCare, a nationwide provider of continuing education for nurses and other healthcare professionals, recently gained accreditation from the American Nurses Credentialing Center.

Accreditation by the ANCC provides assurance to the public, in particular to nursing and health care professionals, that an organization has been found to meet national standards, requirements and criteria. PESI HealthCare is one of only two organizations in the state of Wisconsin to hold ANCC accreditation, the other being the University of Wisconsin - Madison.

Accredited providers of continuing education give nursing professionals the assurance that they receive quality continuing education activities as prescribed by ANCC's rigorous accreditation process.

ANCC accreditation is recognized by most state nurse licensing boards. Iowa and California are the only two states that do not recognize ANCC certification. PESI HealthCare is an approved provider of continuing education in both Iowa and California.

According to the ANCC, the benefits of accreditation are:
Recognition by most state licensing boards.  Indicates an organization's willingness to have their educational programs reviewed for adherence to objective national standards.  Respect for achieving a high standard of excellence.  Provides an avenue through which nurses can maintain professional competence.  Promotes commitment to high quality nursing practice.

PESI HealthCare provides Current, Relevant, and Effective continuing education for healthcare professionals nationwide. Their mission is to improve healthcare nationwide through quality continuing education and knowledge transfer. Each year, PESI HealthCare sponsors over 1,000 live conferences and educates over 50,000 healthcare professionals. They are known for high quality, timely programs that bring topics of the highest interest to local markets around the country. PESI HealthCare is based in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, but has provided continuing education opportunities in all 50 states and in several locations outside of the United States.

Ronald McDonald House Charities® of Oregon and Southwest Washington (RMHC®) to Honor "Hall of Fame" Inductees

Hall of Fame honorees to be recognized at the "Hearts and Hands Auction," October 2, 2009

Portland, Ore. (PRWEB) September 20, 2009

Ronald McDonald House Charities® of Oregon and Southwest Washington (RMHC®) today announced it will honor Stephen Abouaf, Beth Irish, Stephen Kanter, and Joe Graziano as the newest inductees to its Hall of Fame at this year's Hearts & Hands Auction, October 2, at the Nines in Downtown Portland.

The Hall of Fame honors those whose generous contributions and abiding commitment have an enduring impact on the children and families served by RMHC. Annual inductees are chosen by unanimous vote of current Hall of Fame members.

Hall of Fame Inductees

Stephen Abouaf-Over the past six years, Stephen's extraordinary leadership has placed him front and center in RMHC's evolution. He has held positions ranging from Chair of the Golf Committee to Chair of the Board. His vision and passion guided RMHC through a year-long strategic planning process which resulted in new program partner guidelines, a more reliable, diversified revenue model, and a new committee structure--all of which have better positioned RMHC to weather the economic fluctuations that hinder other organizations.

"For me," says Stephen, "As much as this is about the children, it's also about the families in the hope that they can get through a terrible time and remain intact."

Since the completion of his two-year term as Board Chair, he has continued to chair the Board Development Committee and serve on the Strategic Leadership Team.

"To invest in Ronald McDonald House Charities," contends Stephen, "is to help ensure that the families have a home away from home where they can be with their child during a really challenging time."

Joe Graziano - As a long-time Advisory Board member, Joe has championed the RMHC cause in both his personal and professional life.

"The best way to introduce people to Ronald McDonald House Charities," says Joe, who truly leads by example, "is to introduce them to some of the families that stay at the Houses. Once you see what's going on, it's impossible not to volunteer."

He has sponsored events, launched his own annual corporate fundraising campaign (matching contributions to stimulate tens of thousands of dollars in donations), and leveraged his professional talents and personal relationships to ensure the success of RMHC fundraisers.

"I have six healthy brothers and sisters," explains Joe. "My wife and I have six beautiful children who are all healthy. We have a very strong passion for Ronald McDonald House Charities. It's our way of showing gratitude for the gifts we've been given."

Beth Irish - Since joining the Board of Trustees as a representative of the Oregon Medical Association Alliance nine years ago, Beth has been involved in nearly every RMHC committee and program.

"When I was a critical care nurse," says Beth, "I learned that, just like kids in the hospital who need somebody to care for them, the families need that as well. They find that solace when they stay at the Ronald McDonald House."

A two-time Auction Committee Chair, Beth has also served on the Board Development Committee, Program Excellence Team, Outreach Committee, Philanthropy Enhancment Team, Strategic Planning Team, and Executive Committee. Currently Vice-Chair, she will complete her third three-year term as a board member this year. Through her wide-ranging service and advocacy, Beth inspires others to give as well.

"In addition to the wonderful Houses," Beth reminds people that "RMHC also has a tremendous outreach program which targets childhood immunization and dental care."

Stephen Kantor - Stephen became involved with RMHC nearly 10 years ago as a member of the Finance Committee. He soon accepted a seat on the board, and later agreed to chair the organization's first year-long planning process.

"All you have to do is go to the house and see the staff interacting with the families," Stephen observes. "Their compassion and understanding is incredible. The things they do to help are really phenomenal."

In 2004, he became Board Chair, in which capacity he led RMHC's negotiations with OHSU for a new West House--a cause he continues to champion passionately. Stephen also facilitated the largest donation in RMHC's history--a million dollar gift from the late Doris Nelson, a Hall of Fame member whose contribution funded an eight-room expansion of our East House.

"The one constant that families can count on after a trying day at the hospital," Stephen points out, "is the comfort and refuge they will find inside the doors of the Ronald McDonald House. The work being done here is absolutely indispensable."

"I'm thrilled to welcome our four new inductees to the Hall of Fame," says Tom Soma, RMHC's Executive Director. "Their contributions are an amazing testimony to the passion, creativity, and enthusiastic commitment 'inspired' by the children and families we serve. I truly enjoy working with them and look forward to their continued inspiration."

InventHelp® Client Invents "Pet Pro Clean" - An Invention That Could Offer Pet Owners a Sanitary Alternative

InventHelp® is attempting to submit the invention to companies for review.

Pittsburgh, PA (PRWEB) September 5, 2008

InventHelp®, America's largest inventor service company, announces that one of its clients, an inventor from Plainfield, Ind., has designed a waste disposal unit, which would provide a sanitary means of cleaning up pet droppings. This invention is patented.

The "Pet Pro Clean" would make it easier and more convenient for a pet owner to clean up after a pet. The invention would enable the pet owner to abide by local laws relating to the disposal of pet waste and help to prevent pet waste from becoming a health threat to members of the community. The unit would be lightweight, easy to carry while walking a pet and could eliminate the need to touch pet droppings.

The Pet Pro Clean would consist of a cylindrical canister with an attached shoulder strap. The canister would contain a vacuum motor and a storage area that would be lined with a disposable bag. The motor housing and collection canister would be in separate compartments, connected by hinges. The front of the canister would feature a length of hose with a collection nozzle at the end. The exhaust port would include a specially designed filter that could prevent odors from escaping. To use, the pet owner would activate the unit with the "on/off" switch located on the side and use the nozzle to suction the waste. The invention would include a function that compresses the air out of the disposable bag and seals it for easy removal. The Pet Pro Clean would be producible in various colors and sizes, including small, medium and large.

InventHelp® is attempting to submit the invention to companies for review. If substantial interest is expressed, the company will attempt to negotiate for a sale or royalties for the inventor. US Nordic Walking Pioneer to be Honored by Global Nordic Walking Organization

US Nordic Walking Pioneer to be Honored by Global Nordic Walking Organization

Nordic walking is one of the world's fastest growing fitness trends. U. S. Nordic walking pioneer Tom Rutlin has been a leading force in the movement for more than two decades, and the International Nordic Walking Federation has invited him to deliver a keynote address before their 10th Anniversary Celebration Convention in Riga, Latvia on September 26th, 2010.

Madison, WI (Vocus) August 17, 2010

U. S. pole walking pioneer and CEO/Founder of Exerstrider Products inc. Tom Rutlin has accepted an invitation from the board of the International Nordic Walking Federation (INWA) to deliver a keynote address at the organization’s 10th Anniversary Celebration and Conference in Riga, Latvia on September 26th, 2010. INWA has member organizations in more than 20 countries around the globe.

Despite having gone somehow little noticed in his own back yard, Rutlin is widely considered to be the “father” of the rapidly growing Nordic walking movement. He has tirelessly promoted the health and fitness benefits of fitness walking with poles throughout the U. S. since introducing the first line of poles specially designed fitness walking poles, and easy-to-learn techniques which turn walking into a whole body exercise similar in benefits to Nordic (cross-country) skiing in 1988.

Called “Nordic walking” because the activity combines the simplicity and accessibility of fitness walking with specially designed poles, used much as they would be in Nordic skiing, to involve the muscles of the core and upper body, the activity first exploded in popularity across Scandinavia and Northern Europe in the decade following its introduction in Nordic skiing loving Finlanders in 1997.

There are currently an estimated 10 million plus Nordic walkers involved in the movement which is now growing in popularity throughout all of Europe and the UK, North America, Australia and Asia. The theme of INWA’s 10th Anniversary Celebration Conference is "Celebrating Nordic Walking Past, Present and Future” and Rutlin’s invitation as one of the movement’s pioneers symbolizes the organization’s growing commitment to recognizing individuals and other organizations which have made significant contributions to the evolution and advancement of the activity.

One week prior to INWA convention in Riga, Rutlin has been invited to participate in another major Nordic walking event in Milton Keynes, U. K. at the invitation of the nation’s leading Nordic walking organization. He will take part in a panel discussion as part of Nordic Walking UK’s Instructor Conference along with two other Nordic walking pioneers, Marko Kantaneva (who pioneered the Nordic walking movement in Finland and played a leading role launching INWA in 2000) and Michael “Walking Wizard” Gates, holder of both 24 and 36 hour Nordic walking endurance records and the leading figure in the Nordic walking movement in Australia. Nordic Walking UK has trained more than 1,400 Nordic walking instructors who are recognized by the UK’s Register of Exercise Professionals, and their event will also focus on the future of what is becoming one of the hottest new trends in fitness globally.

At age 63, Rutlin who has been regularly Nordic walking for more than 25 years serves as a living example of the fitness benefits of transforming ordinary walking into a whole body "Nordic walking".

From the Partnership for a Drug-Free America®: A New Year's Resolution for Every Parent: Talk To Your Kids About Drugs and Alcohol

10 Resolutions that Show Your Kids You Care at TimeToTalk. org.

New York, NY (PRWEB) December 11, 2007

As parents make New Year's resolutions for 2008, The Partnership for a Drug-Free America® urges parents to look past weight loss, exercise and curbing shopping habits to include learning new ways to talk openly with their kids about living healthy lives.

Time To Talk™ (www. TimeToTalk. org)] celebrates the positive influence parents have on the decisions their children make for themselves. With access to conversation starters and a supportive online parent forum, TimeToTalk. org empowers parents to take an active role in prevention.

10 Resolutions That Show Your Kids You Care, www. TimeToTalk. org]

1. Teach your children to trust you by seeing you as a role model.
2. Be patient, not just tolerant. Apologize when you make a mistake or do something you regret.
3. Ask teens what they need from you -- and do whatever you can to meet those needs.
4. Listen to your teens, a lot. Avoid interrupting.
5. Teach your children about ethics, values and principles they can apply in choices and decision-making.
6. Help them discover the feeling of gratitude, not just to say thank you.
7. Keep the promises you make. If you do not keep your word, acknowledge that. Help your teen understand the circumstances or choices that precipitated the change in your plans.
8. Answer your teen's questions and be consistent. When you notice behavioral changes in them, make yourself available and encourage them to talk about what is going on in their life.
9. Be understanding when they have a difficult time and let them know you will love them no matter what.
10. Be diligent. Have ongoing conversations with your kids about the risks of drugs and alcohol.

Attribute to Steve Pasierb, President and CEO of the Partnership

But your teen is looking to you for support and guidance during such transitional years because these are the years they are first exposed to alcohol, inhalants and drug abuse." "It's clear that a growing number of parents don't just want information; they want advice on what to do and best approaches to having open and honest conversations with their kids." Nearly one-third of parents say they have a need for more information about drugs and 30 percent say they need tips on how to start a discussion about drugs. Additionally, 37 percent of parents surveyed reported they want information on how to tell if a child is using drugs." Logic Trends, Inc. Ranks No. 74 on the 2005 Inc. 500

Inc. magazine today released its 24th annual Inc. 500 ranking of the fastest-growing private companies in the country. Logic Trends, Inc., a recognized leader in the area of IT Security with strategic focus on Identity and Access Management, ranks No. 74 on the list, with three-year sales growth of 1049%.

NEW YORK, N. Y., and Atlanta, GA. (PRWEB) November 9, 2005

Inc. magazine today released its 24th annual Inc. 500 ranking of the fastest-growing private companies in the country. Logic Trends, Inc., a recognized leader in the area of IT Security with strategic focus on Identity and Access Management, ranks No. 74 on the list, with three-year sales growth of 1049%. The Inc. 500 can be found in the November issue, which appears on newsstands November 1.

The companies that made this list represent the vanguard of American industry, posting an average three-year sales growth of 769%. Inc. 500 companies posted aggregate 2004 revenue of $15.9 billion, and 84% of them were profitable. Most importantly, Inc. 500 companies were engines of job growth, having created more than 95,000 jobs since the companies were founded.

The Inc. 500 list generated 25,180 new jobs in the past year alone, a stunning 35% year-over-year increase. Compare this with the total number of employees among Fortune 500 companies, which declined in 2001, 2002, and 2003 before experiencing a 1.3% uptick of 306,045 jobs in 2004.

“When you look at the amazing job growth among Inc. 500 companies and contrast it with the stagnation in the Fortune 500, it underscores the changing nature of our economy,” said Jim Melloan, project manager for the Inc. 500. “With unprecedented global competition, companies have to be able to turn on a dime and discover innovative new ways of doing business. Increasingly, it’s the smaller, agile companies like those on the Inc. 500 that are best equipped to meet these challenges.”

“It is quite an honor to be recognized by the Inc. 500 for the second straight year,” stated Ken Stone, Managing Partner for Logic Trends. “As we continue to expand our practice and expertise across the US, we maintain a commitment of excellence to our customers, partners, and employees that have helped us achieve this milestone. Once again, we are proud to be included in this entrepreneurial group of the 500 fastest growing businesses in the country.”

The Inc. 500 ranks privately held companies according to year-over-year sales growth from 2001 to 2004. With approximately 75% of all new job creation in the U. S. coming from entrepreneurial businesses, the Inc. 500 opens a window onto the companies and industries that are driving the economy forward. Over the years, the Inc. 500 has identified the next generation of world-class companies, with Microsoft, Stonyfield Farms, Timberland, Oracle, The Princeton Review, Morningstar, Jamba Juice, Gateway, E*Trade, Intuit, and Domino’s Pizza all appearing on the list before they became industry powerhouses.

To be eligible for this year’s Inc. 500, companies had to be U. S.-based, independent and privately held through their fiscal year 2004, and have had at least $500,000 in net sales in the base year of 2001. In addition, their 2004 sales had to exceed 2003 sales. Companies are ranked on cumulative three-year sales growth from 2001 to 2004. Inc. verifies all information using tax forms and audited financial statements from certified public accountants and by conducting interviews with company officials.

Reliant Healthcare Professionals Announces Ray Marcy as Executive Chairman

Reliant Healthcare Professionals Announces Ray Marcy as Executive Chairman

Reliant Healthcare Professionals, the leaders in American travel nurse staffing, are naming an industry veteran as their new Executive Chairman.

Denver, CO (PRWEB) September 29, 2008

Reliant Healthcare Professionals Inc. (Reliant), operating as FASTAFF Travel Nursing (FASTAFF) and U. S. Nursing Corporation (U. S. Nursing), recently announced that staffing industry veteran Ray Marcy has assumed the role of Executive Chairman, investor, and a member of the Board of Directors.

FASTAFF and U. S. Nursing specialize in providing rapid response travel nurse staffing to healthcare facilities across the nation that have urgent needs for qualified travel nurses, generally for multiple weeks at a time.

Ray Marcy has more than 25 years in the healthcare and professional staffing industries, most recently serving as a shareholder and the Executive Chairman of Nursefinders, Inc. He joined Nursefinders when Gryphon Investors acquired the company in 2004 and assisted in the company's organic and acquisitive expansion into the travel nurse, allied health and locum tenens segments, until Nursefinders was acquired by Goldman Sachs Urban Investment Group in 2007.

Marcy also served as Chief Executive Officer and chairman of Spherion Corporation (formerly Interim Services), and during his 11-year tenure expanded the company to revenues of nearly $4 billion with more than 1,200 offices in 13 countries.

"FASTAFF and U. S. Nursing have developed an impressive operating model and enjoy a high caliber of talent throughout the organization," said Marcy. "I am delighted to support the management team in furthering the company's leading position within rapid response travel nurse staffing and in expanding operations into other areas of healthcare staffing through organic growth and the exploration of strategic acquisitions in the months ahead."

"Having known Ray Marcy for more than 20 years, I am excited to have such a well-respected and proven executive on board to support us in the continued growth of the industry's premier rapid response nurse staffing providers, FASTAFF and U. S. Nursing," said Reliant's Chief Executive Officer, Gregory Mikkelsen.

Reliant is owned by Clarion Capital Partners, LLC and Management. Clarion Capital Partners is a private equity firm focused on investing in middle-market, growth-oriented businesses.

"We're delighted Ray has joined us at Reliant," said Marc Utay, Managing Partner of Clarion. "We believe he will dramatically assist us in the evolution of our operating strategy and directly help in extending our already strong platform in healthcare staffing. Because the U. S. population continues to age and the chronic nursing shortage continues to persist, we view travel nurse staffing as an attractive sector for continued growth and investment."
