U. S. Cellular Begins Phone Reuse and Recycling Program - Program Benefits Environment, Proceeds Go to Charity

U. S. Cellular Begins Phone Reuse and Recycling Program - Program Benefits Environment, Proceeds Go to Charity

U. S. Cellular has taken the lead in protecting the environment by teaming up with RMS Communications to collect unused wireless phones to safely dispose of them and protect the environment and public health from hazardous waste.

CHICAGO, IL (PRWEB) July 25, 2004

U. S. Cellular, the nation's eighth largest wireless communications company, has begun the Community Action Recycling Effort (C. A.R. E.) program to collect unused cell phones for the benefit of Big Brothers Big Sisters and the environment.

Each time a cell phone customer changes to a new cellular service provider, or upgrades to a better phone, their old phone ends up in a drawer, or worse it goes to the local landfill.

According to Inform Inc., a non profit independent research organization, by 2005, about 130 million cellular phones will be retired each year in the U. S. Environmental groups have sounded a loud warning about the potential damage this could cause if those phones end up in landfills because of the hazardous chemicals they contain.

U. S. Cellular has partnered with RMS Communications Group to enable the public to turn in old wireless phones at any of more than 500 U. S. Cellular-owned retail locations in 26 states, as well as at many other independently owned locations. The program has been under way for just two months and already thousands of phones have been turned in.

"The objective of the C. A.R. E. program is to recover the value of unused wireless handsets in the possession of consumers and businesses nationwide while safely disposing of unused handsets that hold little or no value," said James Mosieur CEO of RMS Communications Group, Inc.

Proceeds from the collection of used cellular phones are donated to Big Brothers Big Sisters, which was selected by Forbes Magazine as one of its top ten charities worthy of donor consideration.

"We are pleased the program has been so well received," said Mosieur. "A significant number of wireless phones are taking up space in the desks and closets of America. Many of these phones carry value, some significant value. All of them have hazardous substances that pose a threat to the environment and public health if not disposed of properly."

Everyone comes out a winner because of the joint efforts of U. S. Cellular and RMS Communications. Members of the public have an easy way to dispose of old cell phones, a donation is made to a charity for each phone turned in, and U. S. Cellular gains increased community recognition as a philanthropic and environmentally responsible company.

People in locations other than the 26 states where U. S. Cellular offers collection locations can send phones to RMS Communications by mail at no cost to them.

Ceramcor's Xtrema Teaware Heats Up the Competition

Ceramcor's Xtrema Teaware Heats Up the Competition

Ceramcor's Xtrema Teaware announces a first-of-its-kind teapot for all types of tea drinkers! The newest advancement in teapot innovation, the cleverly-named Tea Potle® boasts all the advantages of other teapots - lightweight, easy to clean, stylish, heat retentive - without the harmful side effects of the leeching metals their comprised of. Made of 100% inorganic ceramic materials, the Tea Potle® is surprisingly lightweight, stylishly sleek, versatile, and contains no elements of toxic heavy metals.

Toms River, NJ (PRWEB) December 8, 2009

Ceramcor's Xtrema Teaware announces a first-of-its-kind teapot for all types of tea drinkers! The newest advancement in teapot innovation, the cleverly-named Tea Potle® boasts all the advantages of other teapots - lightweight, easy to clean, stylish, heat retentive - without the harmful side effects of the leeching metals their comprised of. Made of 100% inorganic ceramic materials, the Tea Potle® is surprisingly lightweight, stylishly sleek, versatile, and contains no elements of toxic heavy metals.

Some prefer it southern-style - iced and extra sweet. Others skip the sugar and enjoy the flavors au-natural. It's coffee's biggest competition and boasts more health benefits than most other steamy swills. Chamomile, Green, Black, English breakfast, Chai - the options are seemingly endless.

An uncomplicated, refreshing drink enjoyed all over the world, tea is becoming increasingly popular for its simplicity and its numerous health benefits. From herbal tea enthusiasts to sweet tea addicts, those who reap the benefits and good taste of tea probably know the simple steps to creating a nice cup of Earl Grey. First boil, then steep, and in minutes tea is served.

As important as the process, is the teapot itself. The teapot can be the determining factor in whether or not your tea experience is a success. First of all, as any tea connoisseur knows, it is important for water to be free of the heavy metal taste. Demand this of a cast-iron, aluminum and stainless steel teapot, and you're bound to be disappointed. And once the water is heated, it's important for the teapot to maintain the water's proper temperature. Relying on aluminum and stainless steel teapots to keep tea steaming may have you sipping room-temperature Rooibos in minutes.

Teapots can be found to match any type of kitchen décor, from a retro-style red to mountain-cabin cast iron. Chances are, if you're into tea, your teapot is a reflection of you. Consider the harmful toxins these pots leach, and you may want to consider a new form of self-expression. Pots comprised of materials such as Aluminum, Cast Iron and Stainless Steel are known to leach harmful heavy metals - not only contaminating the water inside, but also giving the water an unpleasant metallic taste.

It seems impossible to find a teapot (https://store. ceramcor. com/SearchResults. asp? Cat=2) whose qualities are pleasing on all accounts…

Long behold the newest advancement in teapot innovation: Ceramcor's Xtrema Tea Ware - formally, the Tea Potle®. A cookware company claiming their Tea Potle® encompasses all the qualities of a perfect teapot. Or rather, as the clever name suggests a teapot and tea kettle combined into one pot, a Tea Potle.

Ceramcor's Xtrema line of cookware, bakeware (https://store. ceramcor. com/SearchResults. asp? Cat=4) and now tea sets (https://store. ceramcor. com/SearchResults. asp? Search=retro) itself apart from the others simply based on the composition of their products. Ceramcor products contain no elements of toxic heavy metals and are made entirely of 100% inorganic ceramic materials from our Earth's crust.

Made of high-temperature ceramics that produces Far Infrared Energy, the Tea Potle® guarantees better-tasting water with no harmful trace metals. Because of its ceramic composition, the Tea Potle® also heats quicker and retains heat longer than teapots composed of metal materials.

Victimized by a ruined teapot after boiling it dry? The Tea Potle (https://store. ceramcor. com/SearchResults. asp? Cat=2)® can withstand temperatures of up to 2500°F, making it impossible to overheat. Boil dry an aluminum or stainless teapot and the results will be much more damaging.

And for the trendy folks, let's not forget style. Fortunately, Xtrema's Tea Potle® won't force fashionistas to sacrifice personal style. The Tea Potles® simple design and sleek look will compliment any kitchen décor. The product line even offers the Swirl Tea Potle® (https://store. ceramcor. com/ProductDetails. asp? ProductCode=99362) -- if you're craving something with a little more attitude.
The Tea Potle® is environmentally friendly (http://www. ceramcor. com/making-xtrema. aspx), too.

Ceramcor products are made of the Earth's natural minerals and water; the entire product's surface is also finished with a high-gloss, solid-black non-toxic and non-scratch ceramic glaze.

Even Ceramcor's manufacturing process is Earth-friendly, being handcrafted by highly skilled artisans, rather than using destructive environmental mining and an energy-intensive manufacturing process. All Ceramcor products are made using clean burning natural gas-fired kilns.

Maybe it's the name or the sleek design; or maybe it's more a taste thing. Regardless, Ceramcor guarantees your satisfaction with its new Tea Potle®. Where else can you find a 50-year warranty? That's confidence -- and rightfully so.

Governor Schwarzenegger Signs Groundbreaking Legislation at Nelson Nameplate Implementing Green Chemistry Program

Governor Schwarzenegger Signs Groundbreaking Legislation at Nelson Nameplate Implementing Green Chemistry Program

Last week California State Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger signed into law two bills that make up the country's most comprehensive program regulating the use of chemicals that have been linked to potentially deadly effects on human health. Los Angeles manufacturer Nelson Nameplate Company was the site of the historic bill signing; on the heels of the company's own internal efforts to reduce the number of toxic chemicals the company uses to create metal nameplates and membrane switches.

La Crescenta, CA (PRWEB) October 9, 2008

Last week California State Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger signed into law two bills that make up the country's most comprehensive program regulating the use of chemicals that have been linked to cancer, hormone disruption and other potentially deadly effects on human health.

Los Angeles manufacturer Nelson Nameplate Company (http://www. nelsonusa. com/about/environment. htm) was the site of the historic bill signing; on the heels of the company's own internal efforts to reduce the number of toxic chemicals the company uses to create metal nameplates and membrane switches (http://www. nelsonusa. com/membrane_switches/). Nelson co-president Tom Cassutt was honored that his company was chosen for the historic moment. "We worked long and hard to reduce the number of toxic chemicals our company uses. Our efforts have not only resulted in better working conditions for our employees, but have also reduced the impact we have on the local and global environment," he said. "We're proud to be part of the leading edge in making a difference and effecting change."

The new law (AB 1879 and SB 509) now covers more than 80,000 chemicals now in circulation among many products lines (as opposed to the more narrowly focused bills of the past looking only at everyday household products like baby bottles, mattresses, toys, cosmetics and computers). Now, State regulators are charged with controlling the most dangerous and widespread chemicals first at the manufacturing stage in an effort to keep them from being handled by workers, being incorporated into products, or escaping into the air or water.

Lobbyists for manufacturers and automakers fought the bill intensively, citing that they currently comply with European standards that are currently stricter than current federal laws. However, some manufacturers are voluntarily taking the initiative to reduce the number of harmful chemicals and toxic waste involved in their production.

Cassutt and Nelson Nameplate worked closely with the nonprofit Institute for Research and Technical Assistance spending close to three years and more than $120,000 in researching ways to reduce the number of harmful chemicals his company used. "There were times when we literally tried 30 different substances and it was the 31st one that worked. It does require a commitment to stay the course," Cassutt said. "But it's more than paid for itself. If you can figure out how to get the toxics out of your business, the economic justification is there."

With just one improvement made to one process, Nelson Nameplate managed to reduce their smog-producing exhaust by 60%. Metal sheets used in manufacturing nameplates used to be cleaned in a process that involved dipping them into a 250-gallon vat of 1,1,1-trichlorethane. Now, that dangerous process has been essentially replaced by soap and water - getting the sheets even cleaner than before. In another example of improvements, the company now uses water-based solvents in its lithographic and screen printers that are used to make membrane switches. Furthermore, the high-solvent inks have been replaced with pollution-free ultraviolet inks.

The overall results have been astounding - not only environmentally, but also financially. In the last 10 years, Nelson Nameplate has reduced their smog-causing emissions by 80%. In addition, the initial $120,000 investment was recouped through no longer needing to purchase expensive chemicals in just 2 years.

Since its founding in 1946, Nelson Nameplate (http://www. nelsonusa. com/) has manufactured metal nameplates, delivered rapid prototyping (http://www. nelsonusa. com/prototyping/) and overlays for use on products produced by Fortune 500 companies. Now, Nelson is also a leading manufacturer of membrane switches and a leader in membrane switch design (http://www. nelsonusa. com/membrane_switches/).

Abbey Caregivers Earns Senior Approved Certification

Abbey Caregivers Earns Senior Approved Certification

With rising costs of medical care, reports of elder abuse, and concerns about ongoing customer support, the consumer, more than ever, is demanding better information prior to making a decision to contract and employ a service on behalf of self, spouse, or loved one.

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) January 15, 2008

Abbey Caregivers (http://www. abbeycaregivers. com (http://www. abbeycaregivers. com)) has been awarded the Senior Approved Certification. The certification validates Abbey Caregivers as an excellent in-home care service with a substantiated history of quality service.

The certification is based heavily on the results of the survey, issued by Senior Approved Services, specializing in consumer surveys for the health and elder care industry. The process reaches beyond the traditional measures dictated by the various licensing and state surveying methods common to this industry. This unique survey process helps an existing customer report their perception of the overall experience of contracting with a company such as Abbey Caregivers.

This controlled survey process then provides future potential clients the knowledge that other seniors and their adult family caregivers have found the service of Abbey Caregivers to be superior.

Located in Los Angeles California, specializing in non-medical home care companion services, Abbey offers a variety of care plans to suit the needs of an elderly person, as well as services for those with disabilities and those recuperating at home from illness or injury. A care plan is tailored around the family's needs and can be contracted as a live-in or on a daily basis.

Abbey Caregivers is the first non-medical home care service in California to obtain certification. This is a distinction that clearly separates Abbey from other home care companies - only those that achieve a 90% or higher satisfaction rating receive certification. In fact, 23% of the businesses applying for the Senior Approved Certification do not pass through this stringent process.

"The survey is voluntary, it is not mandated by the health and elder care industry. The process is designed to substantiate credible business practices as it applies to serving the elder population", explains founder and president of Senior Approved Services, Barbara Mascio.

Existing clients completing the survey offered comments substantiating their overall approval of the services provided by the companions, the STNA's, and the HHA's employed by Abbey. One family member offered, "…we've found the aides very attentive to mother's needs and they genuinely seem to take an interest in mother as a whole person."

An adult daughter of a senior offered, "The companions that visit my father are exceptional. It helps to know that he is well cared for and that he is also happy for the daily visits."

"We help seniors connect with safe reliable companies that we can verify a history of quality care and/or service. We cannot hope to accomplish this lofty goal without services such as Abbey Caregivers", states Mascio.

To learn more about daily or live-in services offered by Abbey Caregivers, feel free to call: 310.275.9050.

Woodworking School Featured in New York Daily Magazine

Woodworking School Featured in New York Daily Magazine

Brooklyn Woods, a nonprofit woodworking school is gaining notoriety, as the organization was recently featured in the New York Times.

Brooklyn, NY (PRWEB) June 25, 2008

Brooklyn Woods, a nonprofit organization that teaches the unemployed how to gain a career in woodworking, was recently featured in The New York Times. The daily newspaper includes local and global news on business, technology, science, health, sports, arts, style and travel.

The article, titled "Training for a New Life Through a New Trade," explains how the organization provides tools and skills to those who are chronically unemployed and have difficulties finding steady work to find stable woodworking jobs. "The workshop is filled with the tools students learn to use: machines for sawing, shaping, planning and notching wood and for attaching hinges, and tools for installing the finished products in the apartments' kitchens," writes New York Times writer Joseph P. Fried. "The students are hoping that the skills they learn will lead to new and reliable vocations and solid blue-collar lives."

The program arranges interviews for graduates with potential employers, generally small to midsize custom cabinetmakers and closet manufacturers. About 80 percent are hired, at an average wage of $10.50 an hour, which is about the average for novice cabinetmakers and bench carpenters in the city.

Brooklyn Woods was founded in 1999 and merged this year with Brooklyn Workforce Innovations, which runs other vocational training programs, to gain access to more financing. New Source for Health Information

New Source for Health Information

Health news & things you can do to take advantage of it.

Menlo Park, CA (PRWEB) October 19, 2006

New blog with health information announced by IEHealth: “Focus on health.”

Here are some of the topics that are found there.

There have been a huge number of stories about how dreadful transfats are for human health. A recent news item says that just the amount of transfats in a piece of fried chicken or a small order of fries, if transfats were used in preparing them, & if eaten such a food is eaten daily, will increase the risk of heart disease by 25 percent.

And, it’s not just transfats that help make people fat & harm their health. Soft drinks or jam or ketchup with high fructose corn syrup load on many added calories but don’t make those who ingest them feel less hungry. So, they eat more anyway & get fat.

But many people in this country have been eating lots of exactly that kind of food.

And many find themselves wondering what to eat instead.

The posts to IEHealth’s blog between 4-14-2006 & 6-5-2006 at www. ihealth. blogspot. com have exactly that information.

There are literally dozens of foods that are actually health enhancing & prevent many diseases. Yes, broccoli is listed. But so are blueberries, almonds, avocados, & dark chocolate.

IEHealth’s philosophy is to give people enough information that they can eat foods they enjoy that help keep them well in addition – instead of eating foods with transfats & high fructose corn syrup that make them fat & sick & run up their future drug & doctor bills.

Here’s what is on IEHealth’s blog in the past few days.

A recent Reader’s Digest article that said that exercise is the single most effective way to stay mentally sharp.

But what else does exercise do to benefit health? Why does it help people think better?

People also may wonder “What kind of exercise would fit me best?“

And, what is an effective way they can get themselves to exercise on a day they feel like skipping? (It’s actually easier than many people think.)

The posts, at www. ihealth. blogspot. com, for Thursday, 10-12-2006 & Monday, 10-16-2006 have exactly that information.

This new health blog also covers a variety of health topics besides health-enhancing foods & exercise.

Increasingly people are discovering how to prevent most illnesses from Alzheimer’s disease to strokes & many cancers. Some of these things, like exercise, take some regular effort; but others are surprisingly easy to do.

This blog posts that kind of information in usable form each week.

People who want to take action to stay well – or who already are, will find IEHealth’s new blog worth reading.

SourceMedical Signs Agreement With Easter Seals Crossroads

SourceMedical Signs Agreement With Easter Seals Crossroads

Easter Seals Crossroads to install TherapySource Therapy Software.

Birmingham, AL (PRWEB) March 31, 2009

SourceMedical, a leading provider of outpatient information management solutions, today announced that it has entered into an agreement to install TherapySource, its leading clinical documentation (http://sourcemed. net/therapysource/) and administration system at Easter Seals Crossroads Disability Services.

TherapySource was developed specifically for physical, occupational and speech therapy clinics. SourceMedical's physical therapy software (http://sourcemed. net/therapysource/) enables facilities to capture and manage more comprehensive, accurate clinical documentation at the point of care. Built to handle multiple sites across the enterprise, TherapySource streamlines and automates clinical and financial processes, including therapy scheduling, registration, and clinical documentation. The automated coding and compliance features of TherapySource allows clinicians to spend less time on administrative processes and more time on providing quality patient care.

Easter Seals Crossroads is functioning with paper documentation and manually entering charges into the computer. However, they often fall behind on data entry which affects their billing. Realizing the efficiencies and importance of moving toward an Electronic Medical Records system, Easter Seals had the foresight to seek out and obtain grant funding to underwrite the cost of such a system. After researching software vendors, they chose TherapySource because it had the best occupational, speech as well as physical therapy documentation in the industry. The vast knowledge base that comes with installation seamlessly integrates with the billing module providing fast ROI.

"It was time to enhance our business office and clinic efficiencies in order to improve our bottom line and join the movement toward an integrated Electronic Medical Records and billing system. We found TherapySource had the most comprehensive solution that addressed the specific needs of our disability services," said James Vento, President and CEO of Easter Seals Crossroads.
"TherapySource has really come through as the best therapy software for companies like Easter Seals. It contributes directly to the bottom line profitability of the organization, while providing the clinical documentation necessary to improve the standard of care." said Ralph Riccardi, President and Chief Operating Officer of SourceMedical's Therapy Division.

5 Little Known Facts About Lactic Acid

5 Little Known Facts About Lactic Acid

Lactic acid is a term that is commonly mentioned when discussing exercise but most people know very little about it. Knowing these 5 facts will ensure that you stand out from the crowd the next time it comes up in conversation.

(PRWEB) October 29, 2005

Everybody knows that lactic acid accumulates when we exercise at a high intensity, but there is much more to lactate than that. It plays an integral role in many of the body’s metabolic processes.

1. Lactic Acid is Always Present

It’s always being produced. At rest your lactic acid levels will be about 1 millimoles/liter (mmol/L). As exercise intensity increases so does the production of lactic acid. It’s not until you pass your anaerobic threshold that it reduces your efficiency. For most people this is approximately 4 mmol/L, or 70-80% of their VO2max.

2. Not Just Oxygen Deficiency

It is commonly thought that it is the lack of oxygen that causes the increased production of lactic acid. Whilst it is a contributing factor, it is the absence of the “carrier molecules” NAD (nicotinomide adenine dinucleotide) and FAD (flavin adenine dinucleotide) that have a much greater effect. They play the important role of transporting hydrogen into the cells for use in the production of energy. If they are not around, the hydrogen joins with pyruvate to produce lactic acid.

3. Lactic Acid as Fuel

Lactic acid is usually removed from the muscle tissue within 30 minutes after exercise. It is used by liver, heart, and kidney as a source of energy. The liver can also convert it back into glucose, where it is released into the bloodstream for muscle use. It can also be converted into glycogen for storage.

4. Fatigue and Lactic Acid

Most people know that increases in lactic acid causes a decrease in your ability to perform but few actually know how this occurs.

Firstly, you’ll have a decrease in energy. The increase in hydrogen reduces the production of ATP (energy) by inhibiting key ezymes involved in its production.

Secondly, your muscles won’t be able to contract as often or with as much force. For a muscle to contract we need calcium to attach itself to binding sites within the muscle. The more calcium attached, the more forceful the contraction. The problem occurs because hydrogen competes with calcium for bindings sites.

5. Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness (DOMS)

Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness is the pain you feel in the muscle 24-48 hours after exercise. It was once thought that lactic acid caused this but it has now been proven wrong.

It’s the excessive mechanical force which results in damage to the muscle or connective tissue. The body responds by repairing it and this stimulates sensory nerve endings which results in pain. This is why it usually occurs when you first start an exercise program, or when you train at an unusually high intensity.

Top 10 Keys to Being Successful at Losing Weight and Getting Fit

Top 10 Keys to Being Successful at Losing Weight and Getting Fit

According to author and exercise physiologist, Greg Landry, when all the celebrating of the holiday season was over, 60% of American adults resolved to "lose weight and get in shape" for the new year. Landry offers his "10 Keys to Successful Weight Loss".

Boone, NC (PRWEB) February 9, 2006

According to author and exercise physiologist, Greg Landry, when all the celebrating of the holiday season was over, 60% of American adults resolved to "lose weight and get in shape" for the new year.

Based upon years of helping people reach their health, weight loss, and fitness goals, Greg Landry has put together ten keys to help make your goal of health, weight loss, and fitness a successful one.

1. Use the healthy, powerful combination of fiber and a healthy fat such as olive oil to satisfy your hunger and keep you satisfied for a longer period of time. The two of these together are a potent, natural appetite suppressant. Try to consume at least 40 grams of fiber per day. Go to http://www. Landry. com/fiber-health. htm (http://www. Landry. com/fiber-health. htm) for a transcript of my tele-seminar on how to add healthy, filling fiber to your diet.

2. Do some type of aerobic exercise (walking, jogging, swimming, stationary cycling, stair climbing, aerobic dancing, etc.) on a daily basis - preferably in the morning. Try to average 30 to 60 minutes per day. However, if some days you can only do 15 minutes, that's still much better than doing nothing.

Forget this twice-a-week stuff, your body was designed to be active on a daily basis. When you are, your metabolism will soar - and it also puts you in a "healthy" frame of mind. Also, research tells us that people who have exercised in the morning make better food choices during the day.

3. Always eat breakfast. Skipping breakfast sends a message to your body that you're "starving" because you haven't had food in 18+ hours. As a protective mechanism, your

Metabolism slows down and your body begins to burn your muscle as fuel. When you skip breakfast day after day, your metabolism gets slower and slower. Food is fuel for your metabolism, don't deprive it of what it needs to run properly.

4. Avoid fad diets! For healthy, permanent weight loss, develop an active lifestyle that includes daily exercise, and concentrate on eating healthy carbohydrates such as fruits, vegetables, and whole grains, and also healthy fats. Limit the amount of animal products you consume.

5. Tone your muscles with weight training three days per week. Toned muscles boost your metabolism and cause you to burn more calories 24 hours a day - yes, even while you're sleeping you'll be burning more calories. Toned muscles look good too. This can be done in as little as 20 to 30 minutes three times per week at a fitness center or at home with simple hand weights.

6. Eat earlier in the day. Research has demonstrated that you can lose weight simply by eating a substantial breakfast and lunch with healthy mid-morning and mid-afternoon snacks, and a light dinner. Dinner should be eaten as early as possible, preferably at least three hours before bedtime.

7. Look for situations to be active. Park as far from the store as you can rather than looking for the closest parking spot. Use the stairs rather than the elevator, a rake rather than a blower, a push lawnmower rather than a riding lawnmower, etc. Look for the "difficult" way to do things - the way that requires the most effort!

8. Avoid alcohol. I call alcohol the "triple whammy"! It depresses your metabolism, stimulates your appetite, and it's loaded with calories. Enough said.

9. Drink 60+ ounces of water a day. Your body needs plenty water for metabolism to function properly, especially during weight loss. Water can also help you to feel full. Carry a bottle of water with you and drink frequently throughout the day.

10. Avoid the "3 P's" - weight loss pills, powders, and potions! There is a healthy, effective, permanent way to lose weight.

Greg Landry holds a masters degree in Exercise Physiology from Louisiana State University (LSU), and is the author of a book, several audio CDs, and over 50 articles on fitness and weight loss. O2 Media's Hit Show 'The Balancing Act' Airs on Lifetime Television with Special Guest -- Alert1® Medical Alarms

O2 Media's Hit Show 'The Balancing Act' Airs on Lifetime Television with Special Guest -- Alert1® Medical Alarms

Kristy Villa, Host of The Balancing Act and Alert1 Vice President of Marketing, Christine Roberts, Share Ideas on Providing Safety and Independence to the Ones We Love Just a Touch Away, 24-Hours a Day

Williamsport, PA (PRWEB) January 25, 2010

Alert1 (http://www. alert1.com)®, one of the nation's leading providers of medical alarm (http://www. alert1.com) systems, will make their appearance on The Balancing Act which airs on Lifetime Television Tuesday, January 26, 2010 at 7:30 a. m. Eastern Time and Pacific Time. Christine Roberts, vice president of marketing at Alert1, discusses how Alert1's affordable, simple-to-operate medical alarm products can "insure" the safety and independence of aging parents, while preserving peace of mind for the adult children and other family members.

"1 in 3 people over the age of 65 will have a major fall every year--that's 65, not 85," says Christine Roberts of Alert1. "The key to survival is getting help quickly. If you are found and helped within an hour--95% survival rate; when that goes to two or three hours--survival rate drops by 50%. That is significant, not just for that moment, but for your longevity." Add Roberts, "Having a personal medical alarm ensures you have help, right at your fingertips, should you ever need it."

Christine and Balancing Act Host, Kristy Villa, share how to approach parents on this sensitive topic and discuss other non-fall related situations, minor emergency to serious emergency, where the Alert1 medical alarm products can provide help just a touch away, 24-hours a day.

"You insure your house just in case something happens. You insure your car just in case of an accident. Why can't you have insurance just in case something happens to you?" concludes Roberts.

According to the U. S. Bureau of the Census, the National Center on Health Statistics, and the Bureau of Labor Statistics, in the United States nearly 30 percent (10.9 million) of non-institutionalized older persons live alone (7.9 million women, 2.9 million men) and half of older women (49%) age 75+ live alone.

Statistics from the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, the American Medical Association and the Consumer Safety Product Council show the majority of injuries and hospitalizations for people 65 years and older are the result of falls in and around the home and that 1 in 3 people over the age of 65 will suffer a major fall each year. Studies also show that getting help quickly to a person injured in a fall is critically important to their survival and recovery. A personal medical alarm system is a wonderful way for seniors, and those who live alone to be safe and to have help immediately should they ever need it.

"Whether you simply need to contact a loved one or are in need of emergency medical attention, a personal medical alarm system keeps you connected for less then a dollar a day," added Alert1's Christine Roberts, "and the peace of mind in knowing you are never alone is priceless."

For more information about Alert1's personal medical alarm systems, including complete details regarding their current $25 MasterCard Gift Card promotion, or to order an Alert1 personal medical alarm system, call 1-866-581-4540 or visit www. The Medi-Gate Integrator(TM) is a downloadable application, which operates in conjunction with a physicianÂ’s existing information systems to extract patient data in a secure manor to the HLCL on-line order entry system. The bi-directional feature of the Integrator will be utilized by HLCL to offer participating physicians the ability to receive lab results formatted to match their local EMR systems as well as handheld devices.

“Health Line is thrilled to unleash the power of Medi-Gate’s Integrator(TM) interface though our partnership with LabDat,” commented Dr. Daniel Barrio, Health Line’s Technical Director and Clinical Operations Manager. “This agreement with Medi-Gate’s first deployments in California and expansion into Arizona will give Health Line the capabilities to succeed in a very competitive environment and provide our client physicians with a state-of-the-art order entry and reporting system allowing them to enhance their interoffice productivity.”

“Medi-GateÂ’s real time feed and bi-directional capabilities from the clientÂ’s practice management computer system are unique features that physicianÂ’s practices have wanted in a seamless order entry to the lab and results report back to the EMR. LabDatÂ’s newly released version 5.0 order entry system, with no screen refreshes, enhanced by Medi-GateÂ’s Integrator gives the physician practice and Health Line the most complete and efficient system available. I have known David Pfeil and his staff for many years and I am very familiar with his success in health care technologies and look forward to working with him again,” stated Wayne Martin, National Sales Manager for LabDat.

“Health Line and their on-line hosting partner, LabDat represents the next step in our ability to move data not only from physicians’ information system, but to return data electronically as well. Health Line is the first of several LabDat hosted, affiliated reference labs slated to utilize our integration technology,” stated David Pfeil, Chief Operating Officer of Medi-Gate. “Not only will participating physicians be able to link their patient data to Health Line, but they will also have the ability to utilize the Medi-Gate Integrator to integrate with MedUnite for eligibility and claims processing, as well as a host of other clinical services such as disease management and e-prescribing vendors. The bi-directional capabilities of the Medi-Gate technology will allow physicians to populate their EMR systems electronically with lab results and simultaneously share those results with health risk management applications and other clinical transaction partners associated with their medical practice”.

AMERICAN IDOL: Rude, Crude, and Popular

AMERICAN IDOL: Rude, Crude, and Popular

Celebrity Mental Health Therapist, Terence McPhaul, states, "Dr. Phil is dead wrong!" Simon Cowell's caustic diatribes of contestants are simply unnecessary." McPhaul adds, "let's face it, producers have picked some contestants to appear for the express purpose of being humiliated on national television." "Unfortunately, there are people who tune into American Idol for this purpose." There is no doubt this mix of talent and humiliation has proven profitable for the FOX franchise.

Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) January 22, 2007

International media sources, including Entertainment Tonight, have aired Dr. Phil's claims that the American Idol show on the FOX Network is just good family fun, and that contestants are just looking for their 15 minutes of fame. Some assert that such ideas are just plain false. Celebrity Mental Health Therapist Terence McPhaul, who is author of "The Celebrity Psyche" and "The Psychology of Hip Hop" says, "while I agree that American Idol hosts and producers are not the guardians of Mental Health, Simon Cowell's caustic diatribes of contestants are simply unnecessary." McPhaul adds, "let's face it, producers have picked some contestants to appear for the express purpose of being humiliated on national television." "Unfortunately, there are people who tune into American Idol for this purpose."

There is no doubt this mix of talent and humiliation has proven profitable for the FOX franchise.

American Idol, in it's sixth season has become one of the most popular television shows in history. It is estimated that almost 60 million viewers tuned in for the latest installment. "American Idol should not be billed as good family fun, when the public can tune in to see an individual called crazy, ugly or fat by someone who is supposed to be judging talent," argues McPhaul. McPhaul further contends, "this is certainly not the example one wants to provide to children."

Emotional breakdowns appear to be a staple of the show, and while show - business is tough, it can be argued that being placed on display for public ridicule is not a necessity in a talent competition. The Wall Street Journal reported that in 2006 American Idol generated over $500 million in revenue. Prof. McPhaul states, "some individuals that see American Idol as a real opportunity for success, may be in a fragile emotional state anyway - it is unacceptable to cultivate ratings and advertising dollars in exchange for pushing contestants over the edge."

Get Away Without Going Anywhere: Four Ways to Take a Non-Travel Summer Vacation

This article offers four steps for enjoying a summer getaway without going anywhere.

Randolph, MA (PRWEB) August 6, 2007

Many of us have gone on vacations to faraway places and returned feeling more fatigued than when we left. Kirk Byron Jones, author of "Holy Play: The Joyful Adventure of Unleashing Your Divine Purpose", says, "Truly invigorating vacations are more about changing what's inside of us than they are about changing what's around us. In order to feel genuine renewal, a change of setting may help, but it's not necessary."

Dr. Jones offers four ways to have a soulfully satisfying summer getaway without booking a trip anywhere. How long to stay, five minutes, five days or five weeks, is up to the reader:

1. Let Go. Release all activities that regularly absorb energy from you, especially all work-related actions and thoughts. Genuine vacations can't happen unless you vacate your mind of thoughts that can easily and often unconsciously lure you back into work mode.

A rubber band on the wrist can help people avoid thinking about work. Whenever work thoughts surface, give the wrist a little pop.

2. Lose the Schedule. Much daily anxiety is connected to having to do this or be there at a certain time. True vacations take all the demand out of time. While on vacation, forget about having to do anything on time; live free and easy in time.

3. Delight Yourself. Engage fun, healthy and wholesome activities for joy's sake. Submerge yourself in a spirit of play. For more playful inspiration, visit www. holyplay. com.

4. Love the Margin. Margin is the space between our load and our limits. Such space is virtually non-existent in this "crazy busy" world. Savor the empty spaces in a vacation, the times when sitting, being still and doing nothing. Aaahhh.

Whether or not you have made plans to get away physically this summer, plan to get away mentally and emotionally. Your soul, family and friends and work will thank you.

QuinStreet Sponsors Top Family Team in March of Dimes Fundraiser

QuinStreet Sponsors Top Family Team in March of Dimes Fundraiser

For the fifth consecutive year, employees of QuinStreet, Inc. participated in the annual March of Dimes fundraiser, March for Babies. March of Dimes is the nation's leading non-profit organization for pregnancy and baby health. In seven locations across the country, QuinStreet employees -- along with their families, friends and pets -- gathered to raise money and increase awareness for infant health as members of Team Marching for Mark. This team was established in 2005 in honor of former QuinStreet employee, Mark Bufton, who passed away in 2004.

Foster City, CA (PRWEB) May 1, 2009

This spring, more than 150 QuinStreet, Inc. (http://www. quinstreet. com/) employees and their friends and families participated in the March of Dimes' largest annual fundraiser, March for Babies. With walkers in seven locations across the US, QuinStreet helped increase awareness for premature births and infant mortality and represented one of the largest teams nationwide.

QuinStreet, Inc. joined the Marching for Mark Team (http://www. marchingformark. org/) in 2005 in honor of former employee, Mark Bufton. Mark's family and friends chose to support the March of Dimes (http://www. marchofdimes. com/) as a gesture of gratitude to the organization that had funded Mark's surgery to mitigate a life threatening birth defect on October 14, 1969. Thirty-four years later, in August 2004, Mark succumbed to an unrelated heart issue.

"The March of Dimes is an extraordinary organization and we are honored to lend them our support," said Doug Valenti, QuinStreet CEO. "Our participation in the event is a testament to the dedication and caring nature of our employees. We look forward to supporting the Marching for Mark Team and the March of Dimes in the years to come."

QuinStreet supports the Marching for Mark effort by providing a donation for each walker (employee, friend, relative or pet) affiliated with the company. Although many companies have been forced to cut back on philanthropic efforts in the current economy, QuinStreet has continued to support Team Marching for Mark in honor of its former employee and because of a belief in the importance of the March of Dimes' cause. The company's ongoing support is commended by the March of Dimes' executive board.

"The March of Dimes truly appreciates the support of QuinStreet and its employees in helping to raise record-breaking numbers for this important cause," said Tina Herren, Executive Director of the South Bay Division. "The energy and excitement that the Marching for Mark team brings to our local event, and in locations across the country, is something we use as a model for other family teams."

Funds raised in 2009 by QuinStreet for the March for Babies have already surpassed all previous years, and there are still walks on the horizon.

University Health Publishing Group, LLC Named Mequoda 2006 Publisher of the Year

University Health Publishing Group, LLC Named Mequoda 2006 Publisher of the Year

University Health Publishing Group, LLC has received the 2006 Mequoda Publisher of the Year Award for its exemplary reorganization and management, using the Mequoda Method.

Sudbury, MA (PRWEB) October 4, 2006

University Health Publishing Group, LLC has received the 2006 Mequoda Publisher of the Year Award for its exemplary reorganization and management, using the Mequoda Method.

Don Nicholas, the Mequoda Group’s managing director, presented the award to Rodney Friedman, the publishing company’s founder, at the 2006 Mequoda Summit, held in September in Waltham, MA.

“Rodney Friedman is a visionary whose creativity and business acumen are reflected in a lifetime of achievement in the publishing world,” Nicholas said. “With the launch last year of the John Hopkins Health Alerts website (www. johnshopkinshealthalerts. com), he has demonstrated his devotion to embracing innovation while staying true to his mission of helping ordinary people be smart consumers of health and medical information.”

Mr. Friedman has had a distinguish career in the publishing industry. He founded two prominent health publications: the University of California Berkeley Wellness Letter and the Johns Hopkins Medical Letter: Health After 50, and was an Internet pioneer during the dot-com era when he founded WholeHealthMD. He is a graduate of Hobart College and received his law degree from George Washington University.

University Health Publishing is a publisher of consumer health information. It started as a newsletter publisher in 1983, when Friedman decided to create a health newsletter for consumers and market it by direct mail.

An independent company that operates under a license agreement with Johns Hopkins, University Health Publishing has taken its leading brand -- Johns Hopkins Medicine -- and developed 26 paid products that it markets to a database of more than 12 million customers.

During the past year, the publishing company has overseen a 10-step transformation from its core print business to extend its multi-million dollar media empire onto the Internet.

The Mequoda Method, developed by Nicholas, is a repeating cycle of management behaviors that creates an audience driven, continuous improvement media management system.

Nicholas’ Mequoda Group (www. Mequoda. com) studied hundreds of successful and not-so-successful website publishers to arrive at the seven best practices that make up the Mequoda Method. This system helps publishers, Internet marketers and web designers learn how to turn their special interest magazine, newsletter, book, website, blog, forum, TV show, radio show or newspaper column into a multi-million dollar niche media empire.

Carpinteria, CA (PRWEB) June 2, 2008

NuSil Technology, a cutting-edge manufacturer of silicone compounds for the healthcare, drug delivery and pharmaceutical industries, announced the completion of a study in hydrophilic silicone formulations. The results of the study were presented at the 2008 World Biomaterials Congress and demonstrate the company's commitment to expand and create innovative products for the medical device and drug delivery market.

In 2007, NuSil launched a multiphase study to demonstrate the effects of modifying silicone polymers with hydrophilic groups. The first phase illustrated how variations in silicone chemistry can influence its compatibility with the surrounding environment. The second phase expands on the initial findings. In addition to the Biomaterials Conference, the company plans to discuss this research at Medical Design & Manufacturing East in New York, June 3-5. Customers interested in learning more about this effort can visit www. nusil. com/products/healthcare/drug_delivery (http://www. nusil. com/products/healthcare/drug_delivery).

"NuSil Technology is continuing to support the medical device and pharmaceutical industry with research in hydrophilic silicone chemistries," said Brian Nash, vice president of Marketing and Sales. "We want to show our customers NuSil's commitment to designing products that meet the needs of an individual medical device or drug delivery system."
