AccuRev Enables More Efficient Geographically Distributed Development at NaviMedix: Strong Performance over the WAN and Ease of Use for Distributed Teams Key to Success

AccuRev Inc. today announced that NaviMedix, the leader and innovator in automating provider communications with health plans, care management companies and other health industry participants, has standardized on AccuRev(R) for process-centric software configuration management (SCM). Corporations, such as ISVs managing a lot of component or Web-based development where software is critical to their business, are increasingly requiring a more Agile SCM solution and relying on AccuRev.

LEXINGTON, Mass. (PRWEB) December 19, 2007

After an exhaustive evaluation period of all the market leaders, AccuRev with AccuBridge for JIRA was selected over a short-list of competitive offerings to replace IBM Rational ClearCase for its ability to:

-- Move to a more Agile and efficient geographically distributed development environment, while enabling offshore development without additional licenses, hardware and software costs;

-- Free up SCM engineers to address activities outside of configuration management control such as Build and Release Management, Auditing, and Environment Management.

-- Provide a self-service development model by putting the power of AccuRev in the hands of the right people at the right time.

"With AccuRev, we can put its capabilities in the hands of the people who are actually working on these products. We don't need to do a brain dump to our SCM team every time a specific branch is created or merge is required, which ensures information isn't lost in translation," said Paul Vienneau, director, software development at NaviMedix. "We manage over ten concurrent products with multiple customizations for each, including an extensive library of components. This required us to be able to look at and manage our overall development environment more graphically, and self manage it at a more granular level within each project. AccuRev fit the bill."

AccuRev's software configuration management (SCM) solution is architected to solve the problems associated with today's complex and changing software development environments, while bridging the needs of both developers and managers to improve productivity with a lower total cost of ownership. Burtonsville, MD (PRWEB) July 3, 2008

Lifeclinic International, Inc. (http://www. lifeclinic. com), the world's leading manufacturer and distributor of automated blood pressure monitors and health testing stations, will have its newest health station, the LC600 at the McKesson Pharmacy Strategies Conference. The Conference will be held at the Venetian Resort, Las Vegas, NV, July 7 - 10, 2008. The LC600 will be located in the Pharmacy of the Future while Lifeclinic's LC300 blood pressure monitor and LC500 health station will be in its booth, #941.

Featured at this year's Conference will be Lifeclinic's "Synergy," a comprehensive program that blends state-of-the-art hardware, software and value-added services, all designed to increase retail profits by building consumer loyalty and enhancing current and future revenue streams.

At the foundation of Synergy" is the LC600 (http://www. lifeclinic. com/lc600.aspx). This pharmacy-friendly Internet-connected health station offers automated blood pressure, weight, body fat and blood oxygen tests. The health station's scalability allows for the integration of additional tests from multiple manufacturers. Peripheral input ports include IR, USB and Bluetooth for interfacing and uploading data from various personal health devices such as glucose meters and pedometers.

Consumers can easily navigate through the LC600's interface of test options, health information, and a database of the retailer's products, coupons and discounts, via a 15" color LCD touch screen. Optional features include both magnetic stripe and barcode readers for retail loyalty card programs. The barcode reader can also generate multimedia product information, allowing consumers to retrieve tailored product information for general merchandise, HBA, OTC and Rx products.

Pharmacies wanting to enhance their Medication Therapy Management program, other pharmacist/patient consulting services, or customer access to their Personal Health Records (PHR) (http://www. lifeclinic. com/solutions. aspx) via Health Mart's Web site or Lifeclinic. com can take advantage of the LC600's Internet readiness for secure, HIPAA-compliant, open-source integration into most pharmacy network applications for real-time collection and management of biometric data. The health station's telephone handset gives consumers a direct connection to the pharmacist or pharmacy-directed healthcare provider. Consumers can also manage their own data from any Web browser via Lifeclinic. com or the retailer's Web site.

In describing the Synergy program, Lifeclinic's Senior Vice President, Mike Cavotta said, "We've established valuable relationships with consumers who have regularly used Lifeclinic blood pressure monitors to help them manage their blood pressure. Now, with the LC600's wider array of biometric tests, we can enhance their testing experience and at the same time educate them about the retailer's products and services via CBS's Outernet digital signage network (http://www. cbsouternet. com). The LC600 will be a key component of the Wellness Channel that together with CBS we can create for Health Mart stores. It's a win-win-win situation for consumers, product manufacturers and Health Mart franchisees." CBS Outernet digital video screens will be placed near the pharmacy counter and the LC600 to provide shoppers with relevant health-related information and advertising while educating them about the functions of Lifeclinic's health station. The separate video screens as well as the user interface screen on the LC600 will create a Wellness Channel branded for Health Mart pharmacies.

Besides Synergy's end-to-end solution for personal health monitoring and retail marketing, it's also designed to help retailers and companies motivate people to become more actively involved in their healthcare. "Self-monitoring and self-education are crucial steps towards becoming healthier; however, the most important thing is to do what is necessary to become and stay healthy," said Lifeclinic's Senior Vice President, David Read.

ArchCare Completes HCS INTERACTANT Implementation as 7th Facility Goes Live

ArchCare Completes HCS INTERACTANT Implementation as 7th Facility Goes Live

ArchCare of New York uses HCS INTERACTANT for financial applications. Seven of ArchCare's facilities are now live with the system. HCS support is top notch and the INTERACTANT platform is stable and does everything it is supposed to do.

Farmingdale, NJ (PRWEB) June 19, 2009

Health Care Software, Inc., a market leader and developer of healthcare information systems, has announced that ArchCare, a nonprofit healthcare organization, has completed installation of HCS's INTERACTANT™ enterprise software solution. According to ArchCare, which operates rehabilitation and long-term care facilities under the direction of the Archdiocese of New York, its 7th nursing home, ArchCare at Terence Cardinal Cook has gone live on INTERACTANT completing the system-wide implementation process.

INTERACTANT, HCS's premier software package, is a web-based, centralized architecture solution. It offers a complete suite of applications for clinical, financial, EHR and revenue cycle management for multi-site long-term care facilities, specialty hospitals and outpatient facilities.

According to Mitze Amoroso, ArchCare's VP of Information Technology and Chief Information Officer, HCS and INTERACTANT were chosen following a comprehensive selection process conducted by financial, clinical, IT and upper level management representatives. "We created a robust needs analysis document that listed all of our requirements across the spectrum, from general ledger, to fixed assets, to billing, to census: we had hundreds of pages that were sent out electronically to the vendors as an RFP," she said. The potential vendor pool was reduced from ten to four down to two. "We asked the final two vendors to create a HIPAA compliant billing file using our largest facility's data," explains Amoroso. HCS, successfully completing this last task, won the business. Since signing the original contract and starting to move each of ArchCare's facilities onto the system, Amoroso points to the stability of the software and the support provided by HCS as highlights of the relationship.

"We are using HCS for our financial applications: census, billing, A/R, general ledger, accounts payable and resident trust. The system is stable, it doesn't go down: from an IBM platform perspective it does everything it is supposed to do," says Amoroso.

It is, however, HCS's custom support that gets the highest marks from Amoroso. "One of the things that I find in working in IT is anyone can create and develop a screen that works, but after its up and operational, what kind of support are you going to get?" She asks. "HCS's support is top notch. I have called them off hours and they are always responsive and always there to help. From a support perspective they really are wonderful. You know I can't say enough about their team, it is really, really strong."

"It is gratifying to hear these comments," said Morgan Fahey, Vice President, Enterprise Solutions. "HCS differentiates itself from the competition with an integrated robust system and a flexible approach that delivers the best support to achieve our clients specific technology goals."

Medflow EMR 7.1 Receives 08 CCHIT Certification

Medflow EMR 7.1 Receives 08 CCHIT Certification

Software Complies with Updated Interoperability Requirements. The Certification Commission for Health Information Technology (CCHIT®) today announced that Medflow's product Medflow EMR 7.1 is a CCHIT Certified® 08 Ambulatory EHR and meets the Certification Commission's electronic health record (EHR) criteria for office-based use. Ambulatory EHRs are designed for physician offices and clinics where most Americans get their healthcare. The Commission - a private, nonprofit organization - is the Recognized Certification Body in the United States for certifying health information technology products.

Charlotte, NC (PRWEB) August 8, 2009

The Certification Commission for Health Information Technology (CCHIT®) today announced that Medflow's product Medflow EMR 7.1 is a CCHIT Certified® 08 Ambulatory EHR and meets the Certification Commission's electronic health record (EHR) criteria for office-based use. Ambulatory EHRs are designed for physician offices and clinics where most Americans get their healthcare. The Commission - a private, nonprofit organization - is the Recognized Certification Body in the United States for certifying health information technology products.

"Two key new areas of interoperability are required to achieve 08 certification," said Mark Leavitt, M. D., Ph. D., chair, CCHIT. "First, ambulatory EHRs must be capable of advanced electronic prescribing functions so physicians can qualify for bonuses under Medicare's new incentive program. Second, EHRs must be able to send and receive an electronic patient summary. These and other new criteria will ensure that certified health IT products help improve quality, safety and efficiency while protecting the privacy of health information."

In the third year of the program's operation, the criteria and testing have been significantly updated again to provide physicians with more assurance that certified products will meet their needs for functionality, interoperability and security. The Commission added 19 criteria to the 200 required in 2007. Those changes were focused on the ability to exchange patient information with other systems. A CCHIT Certified 08 Ambulatory EHR ensures:
Additional electronic prescribing features: access to the patient's medication history, formulary, and eligibility. Better and safer medication dosing, adjusted for patient weight and other factors. Better ability to prevent adverse reactions due to drug interactions or allergies. Use of standard formats to exchange basic patient information for continuity of care. Enhanced ability to view X-rays and other diagnostic images. Better management of patient consents and authorizations. Increased use of standard formats when receiving and storing laboratory results.

As a CCHIT Certified product, Medflow EMR 7.1 has been tested and passed inspection of 100 percent of these new criteria.

Jim Riggi, President and CEO, said, "Medflow has always been the industry leader in the delivery of EHR solutions to eye care professionals. Our first priority is to develop products that improve the quality of care our users provide to their patients." "Medflow has a long history of promoting industry standards that protect the patient and improve care. We see CCHIT certification as an essential benchmark that should be used by clinical professionals to evaluate the quality of the software they use. We are proud to be a CCHIT certified EHR," Jim adds.

The CCHIT Certified "seal of approval" for EHR products provides a consensus-based, government-recognized benchmark for ambulatory EHR products. By looking to products with the CCHIT Certified seal, physicians and other providers can reduce their risk in selecting an EHR product, allowing them to focus their evaluation on the special needs of their practices.

The Global Spa Summit Announces 2011 Venue and Theme - Names Three Co-Chairs to Shape Agenda

The Global Spa Summit Announces 2011 Venue and Theme - Names Three Co-Chairs to Shape Agenda

The Global Spa Summit (GSS), the leading annual event for spa and wellness industry executives, today announced the venue, preliminary schedule and theme for its fifth annual conference taking place in Bali, Indonesia from May 15-18, 2011.

New York, NY (PRWEB) December 1, 2010

The Global Spa Summit (GSS), the leading annual event for spa and wellness industry executives, today announced the venue, preliminary schedule and theme for its fifth annual conference taking place in Bali, Indonesia from May 15-18, 2011. The organization also named a panel of co-chairs to shape the 2011 agenda, as the Summit travels to the Asia-Pacific region for the first time, the fastest-growing spa market in the world.

Venues:

The main venue for the 2011 Summit will be the Laguna Resort & Spa, Nusa Dua, Bali, an award-winning member of Starwood Hotels’ Luxury Collection, set on Bali’s most beautiful beach. The Laguna Resort will host the conference’s welcome cocktail/dinner reception and the last day (May 18) of conference sessions. Two days of sessions (May 16-17) will take place at the nearby Bali International Convention Center, a world-class conference center that hosts high-profile international summits including The Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN).

Preliminary Itinerary:

May 13-14: Optional pre-Summit experiences in Ubud and Nusa Dua, Bali
May 15: Pre-Summit cocktail reception at the St. Regis Bali, with tour of their Remède Spa
May 16-18: Official Summit sessions
May 19: Optional post-Summit experiences

2011 Summit Theme:

The theme of next year’s Summit is “Engage the Change: The Money. The Customer. The Future.” “The 2011 Summit will be distinctly future-focused; with so many social, economic and technological transformations unfolding worldwide, the spa and wellness industries’ past will simply not predict where we are headed - or the profound new opportunities before us,” noted Anne McCall, GSS Board Member. “Under the banner of ‘engaging change,’ delegates will explore new, emerging markets; new business models and investment opportunities; new consumer demographics; new tourism and health concepts; and powerful new ways of engaging with customers. Additionally, delegates will have more opportunity than ever before to engage and dialogue with both presenters and each other.”

As the only event where global spa and wellness leaders come together in a think tank-like environment, delegates will experience three days of keynote addresses, interactive panels, research presentations, breakout workshops, as well as hosted dining and networking events.

Co-Chairs Tapped to Shape Agenda:

From its inception the Global Spa Summit has been modeled on the not-for-profit World Economic Forum, where leaders gather to solve problems and identify shared opportunities. Like the WEF, whose annual agenda is shaped by a panel of expert co-chairs, the GSS has just announced its three co-chairs for 2011, each of whom have served as Summit board members since its inception in 2007.

Ann McCall Wilson, Vice President, Spas, Fairmont Raffles Hotels International, Inc., Canada: Wilson, with 20 years of experience in the hotel and marketing arena, is the driving force behind the Willow Stream spa brand for Fairmont Hotels & Resorts.

Jeff Matthews, President & COO, Mandara Spas, Indonesia: A resident of (and expert on) Bali, Matthews has 20+ years hospitality industry experience with international chains like Four Seasons and Hilton Hotels throughout Australia, Canada, the Middle East, and Indonesia. He currently serves as president of one of the world’s largest resort spa management companies, with 75+ spas worldwide.

Susie Ellis, President, SpaFinder Inc., US: Ellis leads the world’s largest spa media and marketing company, and brings 30 years of industry experience. A respected analyst of the worldwide spa, wellness and beauty industries, she’s recognized as a driving force behind the transformation of the spa industry from a narrower market sector to the mega-industry it has become today.

Sedation Dentistry Safety Week Provides Five Simple Tips to Empower Fearful Patients

Sedation Dentistry Safety Week Provides Five Simple Tips to Empower Fearful Patients

Millions of fearful patients still don't realize they can overcome all anxiety and receive safe, comfortable and effective dental treatments. The fourth day of Sedation Dentistry Safety Week includes publication of 'A Consumers' Guide to Safe, Anxiety-Free Sedation Dentistry: What Patients Need to Know to Optimize Their Experience.'

Seattle, WA (PRWEB) March 12, 2009

The last thing fearful or squeamish dental patients need is to worry about the safety of the procedures they require.

With that in mind, Sedation Dentistry Safety Week today issued "A Consumers' Guide to Safe, Anxiety-Free Sedation Dentistry: What Patients Need to Know to Optimize Their Experience."

Sedation dentistry has become an immensely popular form of treatment for adults who were previously nervous about visiting their dentists for general or even specialized dental procedures.

Thanks to oral health advancements and specialized training for dentists and their staffs, patients now can expect their dental visits to be extremely safe, comfortable and anxiety-free. In many instances, in fact, sedation dentistry patients remember little, if any, of the sights, smells or sounds of their dental visits.

This entire week, March 9 to 13, has been designated Sedation Dentistry Safety Week (SDSW), dedicated to reinforcing the already-extraordinary safety record of the nearly 40,000 oral health professionals who make this life-enhancing technique available in their communities across America.

"Oral sedation has improved the lives and bright smiles of more than one million patients who once avoided the dentist altogether out of fear or discomfort," says Dr. Michael Silverman, SDSW's national chairman and one of the world's leading sedation dentistry educators. "Our mission today is to let the millions of other fearful patients know that they can actively contribute to making certain all their dental visits are safe, comfortable and free of anxiety."

Dr. Silverman says that successful and pleasant oral sedation experiences result from a "partnership" between quality dentists, their trained staff members and their individual patients. "No one ever need avoid the dentist again due to anxiety," he affirms.

The SDSW consumers' guide (http://www. sedationcare. com) offers these five simple tips to empower oral sedation patients to contribute to their own safe and successful experience:

1. Select an oral sedation dentist who has received specialized training from a highly respected organization, such as DOCS Education, host of the 2009 sedation safety week. Dentists and dental team members trained by DOCS Education have safely treated more than 1.25 million adult dental patients by carefully adhering to or exceeding guidelines of the American Dental Association and/or regulations set by individual state dental boards.

2. Don't hide or overlook any aspects of your health when providing a detailed medical history to your dental team. Your oral sedation dentist will use the information you provide to evaluate and match you with a unique sedation protocol. This individualized attention is a crucial aspect of your experience.

3. Adhere to the instructions provided to you ahead of time by your dental team. This will include what and what not to eat/drink and when. Take any medications exactly as prescribed.

4. Choose a dependable and caring friend or family member to drive you to and from your dental visits and to remain with you for a few hours once you are back home. When you have completed each treatment, give yourself a mini-vacation at least until the next day to relax and let the sedation wear off.

5. Ask questions. Lots of questions. Never be shy when it comes to your safety, comfort and peace of mind. Your dentist and dental team should always be patient, understanding, non-judgmental and informative. If they aren't, find another dental office - there are many thousands of them providing oral sedation throughout the country.

For additional information, consumers are encouraged to speak with a DOCS Education (http://www. docseducation. com) trained dentist in their community. To locate one, consumers may phone 888-858-7972 or visit the Sedation Care (http://www. sedationcare. com) website. Dentist and dental team members interested in learning how they can provide safe, effective, oral sedation in their communities can phone 877-325-3627.

Women Harnessing Power of Prozestra Estrogen Cream to Attack Menopause

Women Harnessing Power of Prozestra Estrogen Cream to Attack Menopause

More perimenopausal and menopausal women are being turned on to the powers of estrogen delivery creams, like Prozestra, as numerous informative health studies and reports emerge that offer some previously unheard of insight on how to effectively treat the symptoms of estrogen depletion by using a topical estrogen delivery system.

Manalapan, NJ (PRWEB) January 31, 2010

As more articles, health studies and eye-opening reports on menopause surface, women who suffer from the symptoms are flocking to all-natural estrogen creams, like Prozestra, to seek a safe and effective, affordable means of dealing with external and internal associated ailments. Since such estrogen creams deliver the key female hormone (estrogen) that depletes during the onset of this natural female hormonal shift, estrogen creams, like Prozestra, are currently enjoying steady first quarter sales, because they offer topical relief for many of the associated physical signs of this female hormonal imbalance.

A menopause report that was published in early January by the Prudent Press Agency, advising women on how they can identify the signs of perimenopause and menopause, and what associated symptoms to expect, has more educated women seeking estrogen creams, like Prozestra, as effective, over-the-counter treatment options.

The article cites,

"Perimenopause can begin as early as the 30's for some women, or as late as the early-fifties. However the average age that symptoms begin is around 40. Since this is usually a very gradual process at first, some women misinterpret the symptoms at first. But here a few of the symptoms that you will find very common in most women, whether or not they appear early in your experience with perimenopause or much later.

The most common symptoms include:
Irregular periods Hot flashes Night sweats Moodiness, or irritability Tenderness in the breasts Weight gain, especially in the midsection Insomnia (sleeplessness) Fatigue Low libido vaginal dryness" The article further advises that women empower themselves to do something about the symptoms of their menopause, rather than nothing at all.

"Taking care of your health in general and learning more about how to cope with these symptoms is the best medicine, so don't sit idly and suffer in silence - learn to deal with these symptoms of menopause."

(Source: Internet, 2010; http://www. prudentpressagency. com/modules/news/article. php? storyid=11729 (http://www. prudentpressagency. com/modules/news/article. php? storyid=11729).)

The spokesperson for Prozestra, Cary Johnson, agrees that estrogen creams really do have much to offer women who are suffering from the throes of their menopause, as the aforementioned citing states.

"As more women are made aware of the many internal and external symptoms that the depletion of estrogen in their bodies can create, many are arming themselves with proven estrogen creams, like Prozestra, in order to harness the power of an externally-delivered estrogen cream that can easily be massaged into the affected areas and provide fast relief," Johnson says.

Prozestra all-natural progesterone cream is lightly dabbed and massaged twice daily to any of the following areas of the body: hands, belly, inner arms, neck, face, thighs, buttocks and breasts, until fully absorbed, alternating application sites with usage, as desired.

Most users will see and feel noticeable results from using Prozestra natural progesterone cream within 2-6 weeks of daily usage, when used as directed.

This product works best when combined with Pharmaxa Labs' all-natural menopause supplement, Menoquil.

OnQueue Software Provides Centralized, Scalable ID Card Issuance: ID software eliminates inefficiency, boosts ROI for large-volume card production

OnQueue Software Provides Centralized, Scalable ID Card Issuance: ID software eliminates inefficiency, boosts ROI for large-volume card production

Fargo Electronics, Inc., a global leader in secure technologies for ID card systems, today launched OnQueue Card Production Software, a scalable application that transforms multiple stand-alone ID card printers into one centralized system for large-volume card production.

MINNEAPOLIS (PRWEB) September 24, 2007

OnQueue offers flexibility in managing as few as two or more than 20 card printers in a single system, thereby growing with an organization's needs. The software consists of a client application that sends print jobs from any PC on the network to a server, and the server-based application manages and processes the jobs as they're created. All print information is stored in a central database that makes management, back-up and archiving easy.

"Before OnQueue, large-volume card programs had to invest hundreds of thousands of dollars in massive, stationary card printers, or purchase individual printers attached to individual PCs for decentralized card production," said Glenn Bottomly, Fargo's director of product marketing for ID software and systems. "Neither option has the efficiency or ROI that OnQueue does. The large, stationary printers can lead to financial risk and slower ROI if lower than planned card production volumes lead to excess capacity. And they can bring production to a standstill with a single technical problem. Using individual printers attached to PCs can become inefficient as production needs increase, and it can become difficult to see the 'big picture' of what is really happening out in the production system. With OnQueue, users can centrally manage the printers they need for the print jobs they have."

OnQueue automatically routes print jobs to printers on the network. Multiple print jobs can be sent to the server individually or in a single batch. Batches, and print jobs within a batch, can be prioritized by level of importance.

Uptime is maximized with OnQueue. If there's a problem with a print job or a printer, the system identifies it and redirects the job. Smart load balancing reroutes jobs if a printer should go offline, eliminating the usual manual retracking, rerouting and reprinting.

Because of its flexibility, OnQueue is perfect for small to large businesses, education and health care facilities, government agencies, recreation centers, card service bureaus or any organization with high volume card production.

Pricing

A 30-day trial version of OnQueue is available at no charge. OnQueue software packages supporting up to three client workstations and three printers begin at $1995 U. S.

The awards were presented at Morehead’s inaugural users’ conference, “Drive to High Performance: Making the Shift from Uncertainty to Knowledge,” held in Charlotte earlier this month. At the third level, five organizations that rose above and beyond in managing human capital (http://moreheadassociates. com/) improvement initiatives were presented with the Above and Beyond award.

The user conference was overwhelmingly received by more than 60 attendees representing over 35 Morehead client organizations. It was requests from these clients for the opportunity to learn from others and share best practices that prompted Morehead’s first users’ conference.

U. S. Sleep Aids Market Grows To $23 Billion, As Americans Battle Insomnia, Sleep Disorders

U. S. Sleep Aids Market Grows To $23 Billion, As Americans Battle Insomnia, Sleep Disorders

Home Tests, Sleep Labs, New Drugs Will Boost Growth

Tampa, FL (PRWEB) June 9, 2008

Marketdata Enterprises, Inc. (www. marketdataenterprises. com), a leading independent market research publisher, has released a groundbreaking new 145-page market study entitled: ''The U. S. Sleep Market.'' This is a complete analysis of all segments of the United States sleep aids business.

"Of a total population of 305 million Americans, 58% are estimated to experience insomnia symptoms or sleep disorders. Companies across America are trying to sell us a perfect night's sleep with sleeping pills, premium mattresses, high tech pillows, white noise machines, sleep masks, aromatherapy, and more. Sleep disorder diagnosis and sleep hygiene has fast become a $23.7 billion a year industry," according to Research Director, John LaRosa.

Major Findings:
Marketdata estimates that the U. S. sleep market was worth $23.7 billion in 2007. However, growth this year will be less than 1%, due to the recession, more home testing, and more generic sales of sleeping pills. To 2012, we forecast 8.8% annual growth.

The major anti-insomnia drug producers spent $619 million last year advertising Ambien CR, Lunesta and Rozerem, producing $2.7 billion in sales. However, this was down 18% as Ambien came off patent and sales of generics rose. New drugs are in the pipeline.

Sleep Labs, which perform studies to diagnose sleep disorders, are estimated to number 3,300+. The typical lab has revenues of $1.33 million and conducts 1,250 studies per year. Labs are located in hospitals, MD practices, universities, or are independent. This segment will be worth $4.47 billion in 2008.

A March 2008 ruling by the Center for Medicare Services will have a major impact on the field of sleep medicine. Portable devices may now be used for home testing, resulting in short-term uncertainties for sleep labs but boosting the market for CPAP devices - a $2.4 billion market that's growing 18% a year to 2012 and that's dominated by ResMed and Respironics.

The huge $13.7 billion retail mattress market and $900 million pillows market are being hurt by the recession. Retail sales are forecast to grow just 1% this year, but to rebound in 2009. Premium non-innerspring (air, memory foam) models are selling well. According to Research Director, John LaRosa: "As obesity rates climb and Americans age, more people are developing sleep apnea, restless legs syndrome and other sleep disorders. Plus, stressors from the economy, terrorism, longer workdays, and women entering menopause are resulting in more sleepless nights. Some claim that 'sleep is the new sex -- we need more of it and can't get enough of it.' First launched in 1977, there are now about 3,300 'sleep labs' in the United States."

Competitor Profiles provided for: ResMed, Respironics, SleepMed, Sleep Solutions, Sleep Holdings, Avastra Sleep Centres, Tempur-Pedic, Sealy, Serta, Select Comfort, Simmons, Apollo Health, and Marpac.

Note: Marketdata also operates a leading consumer healthcare website covering a wide variety of sleep disorder topics, named: www. sleepweb. com].

About the Report & Marketdata

Marketdata Enterprises is a leading independent market research publisher and consulting firm with a specialty tracking service sectors since 1979.

The ''U. S. Sleep Market,'' published in June 2008, is a complete analysis of the sleep aids market. It contains 25 tables and is 145 pages long. The study costs $1,895, but is sold by individual chapters at lower cost. It is available in digital or print format. This new Marketdata study examines all major market segments: anti-insomnia drugs (OTC & prescription), sleep labs, mattresses and pillows, CPAPs (continuous positive airway pressure devices) for sleep apnea, and retail sleep aids (earplugs, sleep lamps, sound machines, eye masks, books on sleep).

Marketdata performed a custom mail survey of 900+ sleep labs in March-May, deriving key operating ratios, average revenues, patient demographics, and more.

The study includes market size estimates for 1987-2007, with 2008 and 2012 forecasts, client demographics, in-depth competitor profiles and rankings in each market segment, discussions of market nature & structure, history and evolution, in view of recent Medicare rulings regarding home testing. Advertising strategies, R&D, sleep disorder publicity and other demand factors analyzed.

Private Donor Pledges Books for Troops This Holiday Season

Private Donor Pledges Books for Troops This Holiday Season

A private donor has pledged to donate one copy of The New York Times best selling book, The 4:8 Principle to a U. S. soldier for every copy of The 4:8 Principle purchased at a Barnes & Noble retail store between now and November 11.

Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) November 5, 2007

Tommy Newberry and The 1% Club, Inc. announced today that a private donor has pledged to donate one copy of The New York Times Bestseller, The 4:8 Principle to a U. S. soldier for every copy of The 4:8 Principle purchased at a Barnes & Noble retail store between now and November 11.

The 4:8 Principle (Tyndale House Publishers) has been a runaway hit since its release on September 1st. The book reached the #1 spot on Amazon. com and Barnesandnoble. com on September 12. It also appeared at #4 on The Wall Street Journal Nonfiction bestseller list and on Sunday, September 30, the book debuted at #3 on The New York Times Hardcover Advice/How-To list.

So what is the message of the book that seems to be resonating with so many individuals? The 4:8 Principle has a simple message: Joy is a choice and it's completely predictable.

Research indicates that the average person thinks approximately 50,000 thoughts per day. Each thought either moves us to our God-given potential, or away from it. The book is based on Philippians 4:8, where the apostle Paul challenges us to seek out and dwell on the positives in our lives. Newberry believes that when used as a filter, this New Testament verse is the true secret to vibrant health, satisfying relationships and lasting fulfillment.

"The 4:8 Principle is helpful to anyone, but especially to those who could benefit from an infusion of hope, optimism and overall positivity," says Newberry. "Needless to say, that is a rather large market. One group in particular could benefit from the ideas in The 4:8 Principle more than any others and that is... Members of The United States Military and their families."

Newberry, who is the founder and head coach of The 1% Club, an organization dedicated to helping entrepreneurs and their families maximize their full potential, always believed his book was going to connect with the market.

"I've been teaching the 4:8 Principle for almost 16 years and I've witnessed individuals and marriages transformed using the simple, but deeply effective methods I write about in the book," says Newberry. "However, what has happened since the book's launch on September 1 has certainly exceeded our already very high expectations."

Barnes & Noble is currently featuring The 4:8 Principle: The Secret To A Joy-Filled Life on its "New Release Tables" located near the front entrance of each of its 793 brick and mortar superstores.

Reliant Healthcare's Innovative Approach to Inpatient Rehab Profiled on spark360 "Social Business Television" Program

Reliant Healthcare's Innovative Approach to Inpatient Rehab Profiled on spark360 "Social Business Television" Program

Spark360 Feature Focuses On Fresh Approach and "Re-Thinking" The Rehabilitation Hospital Model

Dallas, TX (PRWEB) April 9, 2010

Spacious, inviting hallways. Large private rooms with WiFi. Picture windows in rehabilitation areas brimming with new medical technologies. Everywhere you look in a Reliant Healthcare facility, there’s evidence of a new way of thinking about acute care rehabilitation for patients recovering from injuries, illnesses and major surgical procedures. That unique approach is on display in the latest edition of spark360’s “Social Business Television” program.

Reliant, a Dallas-based healthcare company with five facilities in Texas and Ohio – and several more planned for the future – focuses on two aspects of inpatient care that its executives believe differentiate it from competitors  – architectural design and physician partnerships. spark360 takes you inside the Reliant facility in Richardson, Texas to show how both of those approaches are helping patients get back on their feet.

"Patients who come here generally have a very low level of hope. We’re thrilled when we've got that patient back to a level of excitement for themselves," said Emmett Moore, CEO of Reliant Healthcare Partners. "Historically, hospitals were just beds off a wall. We’ve really tried to design this hospital to focus on the care that’s given to patients, and getting them back to functional living. We give them a nice room, but the big objective is to get them out of the bed, get them out of the room, and get them back to independent living."

Reliant is active in a segment of the hospital industry that’s attracting the attention of healthcare companies. An aging baby boomer population and advances in surgical techniques that require longer stays in rehabilitation hospitals have resulted in a need for more beds and facilities, said Dr. Richard Jones, Reliant’s medical director. "Twenty years ago, patients didn’t survive some of the heart attacks, some of the surgeries, and would not be well enough to go into rehab,” Dr. Jones said. "Now we’re seeing a tremendous increase in the number of people who just need that extra effort to get home."

Spark360 shows off the design features of a Reliant hospital that doctors and therapists say can make for a quicker recovery, as well as the latest technologies that help patients regain mobility and independence. The spark360 team interviews doctors and therapists who urge a patient’s family to get involved with treatment options, and host/managing editor Renay San Miguel interviews a former patient who credits Reliant with helping her learn how to walk again after a serious injury.

"A Reliant hospital simply doesn’t look like a hospital," San Miguel said. "The architecture is less sterile-looking, more family-friendly. Yet right there with all the new technologies and emphasis on innovation are some traditional therapies and hard work by staff and patients.  All of this combines to make Reliant a perfect story to highlight on spark360."

Senior Producer Steven Swaim added, "Reliant has reinvented the rehab hospital concept and brought a fresh approach to a tired sector. This is the type of story we like to bring to our viewers because it's a great example of how an entrepreneur rethinking the status quo creates opportunity and value in the marketplace."

Two Studies Link Erectile Dysfunction with Cardiovascular Disease

Two Studies Link Erectile Dysfunction with Cardiovascular Disease

Johns Hopkins Prostate Disorders Health Alerts reports on two new studies which link ED to heart health, and diabetes.

New York, NY (PRWEB) March 18, 2008

Two recent studies reviewed by Johns Hopkins Prostate Disorders Health Alerts have added to the growing body of evidence that erectile dysfunction is not simply a threat to a healthy sex life, but a barometer of overall health, particularly heart health.

Erectile dysfunction linked to cardiovascular disease and diabetes:
A study of nearly 4,000 men with an average age of 57 reported that nearly 50% had experienced erectile dysfunction (ED) in the last month or were taking ED medications.

The development of erectile dysfunction was strongly related to the presence of cardiovascular disease (CVD) and diabetes, probably because of their negative effects on blood vessel function.

The relationship between ED and CVD or diabetes was most pronounced among men age 40-49. In these men, the probability of having ED was 31% in the absence of either medical condition, but rose to 52% in men with CVD alone, and to 73% in those who had CVD and diabetes. The relationship between erectile dysfunction and CVD or diabetes was apparent in all age groups, but declined with age.

The researchers also reported a significant association between erectile dysfunction and undiagnosed diabetes or elevated glucose levels that put the men at risk for diabetes. Erectile dysfunction also correlated with the presence of metabolic syndrome, a cluster of heart disease risk factors. This study was reported in the Archives of Internal Medicine (Volume 166, page 213).

Erectile dysfunction (ED) may signal undiagnosed heart problems:
Cardiovascular disease is known to increase the risk of erectile dysfunction. But another new study suggests that ED can also be an important warning sign of unsuspected heart disease.

The participants, all age 55 or older, were taken from the Prostate Cancer Prevention Trial (PCPT), which tested the benefits of finasteride (Proscar) in preventing prostate cancer among nearly 19,000 men. This study was reported in the Journal of the American Medical Association (Volume 294, page 2996).

The current study analyzed information on the 4,247 men in the placebo group who had no erectile dysfunction or cardiovascular disease at the outset of the PCPT. Five years later, 57% of them had developed erectile problems. At seven years, the percentage had climbed to 65%.

During the same follow-up period, men who developed ED were 25% more likely than men who did not have ED to experience some kind of cardiovascular event, such as angina (chest pain), a heart attack, or a stroke.

Bottom Line Advice:
As a cardiovascular risk factor, ED ranks with current smoking or a family history of heart attacks. If someone develops ED, therefore, it is not merely a lifestyle issue. ED is an important warning of the risk of cardiovascular disease, and should prompt an investigation of your cardiovascular status and appropriate treatment when necessary.

It is also important to note that the popular erectile dysfunction drugs such as Viagra (originally developed as a heart medication), Levitra, and Cialis, have been linked to heart-related side effects.

These ED drugs function to cause a dilation of general blood vessels, as well as the vessels that allow erection of the penis. Sudden drops in blood pressure from this dilation have been known to bring on cardiac events. In addition, these drugs should NOT be taken with nitrate medications prescribed for angina.

Being heart smart, especially if you have a family history of cardiovascular disease, is the best way to maintain not only your overall health, but your sexual health as well.

On In Short Order This Thursday Night, 9:00PM EST, Sue Vogan Interviews Author and Lupus Victim, Marilyn Celest Morris

From no permanent home to author, Ms. Morris struggles with finding a diagnosis for her ailments. The Diagnosis: Lupus comes only after 3-years and 5-doctors of searching.

La Grange, NC (PRWEB) April 6, 2006

On In Short Order, Thursday, April 6th at 9:00PM, Sue Vogan will be speaking with Marilyn Celeste Morris, co-facilitator for the Fort Worth Lupus Support Group, North Texas Chapter of the Lupus Foundation of America and member of the Board of Directors.

Although she was raised as a military brat, Marilyn Celeste Morris was born in her grandfather’s house in Toronto, Texas, a small Southern Pacific Railroad Section six miles west of Alpine. Perhaps as an omen of what would be the next twenty years of her life, the railroad’s abandonment of this settlement shortly afterward left her with no “permanent” home.

Schooling consisted of dependents’ schools while overseas, in Seoul Korea and Austria, and various schools stateside. A rarity for a military brat, she was fortunate enough to have attended all three high school years and graduated at Lawton Senior High School, Lawton OK. Further education was attained at Cameron State College, Lawton OK, Tarrant County College, Fort Worth TX, and North Texas State University. She received an AAS Degree in Mental Health in 1995.

After studying under the late Grace Nies Fletcher, author of "Merry Widow" and "In My Father’s House," Marilyn began her writing career as a guest columnist in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, and for ten years wrote a weekly humor/human interest column for Suburban Newspapers in the Fort Worth TX area.

She has taught creative writing at Tarrant County College, Fort Worth TX, survived numerous book signings and speaking engagements, and is credited with two novels, "Sabbath’s Room" and "Once a Brat." Her newest book, "Diagnosis: Lupus, The Intimate Journal of a Lupus Patient," chronicles her intensive three-year, five-doctor search for diagnosis and treatment of her baffling symptoms, her struggles with God and society. Ms. Morris’s intent is to inform and validate other lupus patients, both diagnosed and still searching, and to let them know that they are not alone.
