American Idol Fans Have Fun, Building Lasting Friendships While Helping Others

American Idol Fans Have Fun, Building Lasting Friendships While Helping Others

Cure diabetes; help bring peace to northern Uganda; help kids go to school; send candy to troops in Iraq; check on caregivers and people who live alone; or how about build a new wing for a children's hospital? These are just some of the efforts that American Idol fans have supported, not only on behalf of their favorite Idol, but simply because they can pool their enormous well-organized resources together to make a difference.

Raleigh, NC (PRWEB) October 25, 2006

Cure diabetes; help bring peace to northern Uganda; help kids go to school; send candy to troops in Iraq; check on caregivers and people who live alone; or how about build a new wing for a children's hospital?

These are just some of the efforts that American Idol fans have supported, not only on behalf of their favorite Idol, but simply because they can pool their enormous well-organized resources together to make a difference.

The list of fortunate charitable programs who have received contributions from this rapidly growing fan base includes well-known organizations such as UNICEF, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, The Children's Hospital and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, as well as newer organizations which have benefited from awareness and contributions such as the Bubel/Aiken Foundation, GuluWalk, CheckOnMe. org and others.

Many celebrities have put their names and visibility to work for the causes they support, but what makes this network of givers stand out is their passion for being part of a nation of tightly bonded fan-friends. American Idol fans are not on board because they are star-struck, but because they identify with someone who was just like them or like the people they know in their hometowns, families, schools, at work and places of worship. The exuberance that these supporters embrace from rallying around the lucky few contestants who become finalists for the American Idol reality TV phenomenon is unlike any other magic they have experienced in their lives in a long time.

These motivated followers find clever ways to organize and fund parties, hold successful auctions and craft sales, purchase music, concert tickets and merchandise for themselves and their friends, and of the greatest importance, raise and donate money to the causes that are important to the people — fans and celebrities — they care about.

There is a Web site you can visit that has started to connect all of these wonderful efforts under one umbrella. It started as a popular fan site for Elliott Yamin, the third place winner in the American Idol Season 5 competition, hosting a fundraiser for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation that has already raised tens of thousands of dollars. Now it is growing into a place where fans of other Idols can find information on current fundraisers and events, while being entertained with fresh photos, video and stories. The Web site is EddieTheDawg. org — so named after a rescued canine who has suffered with diabetes for five years, went blind and had vision restored, and is happily involved with raising funds for diabetes at a ripe old age, somewhere beyond 110 dog years.

EddieTheDawg. org is a place where you can watch Elliott Yamin sing the National Anthem before the Walk To Cure Diabetes in Los Angeles; join a juvenile diabetes walk team with Gregory Ellis, a young actor who performed with Clay Aiken's Joyful Noise tour; watch a video of PricewaterhouseCoopers staff packing a mound of candy into shipments to troops stationed in Iraq; participate in an online auction to win autographed items from Ace Young to help fund a new wing for The Children's Hospital of Denver; read about Clay Aiken's Presidential appointment to the U. S. Department of Health & Human Services Committee For People with Intellectual Disabilities; listen to Richard Simmons on Sirius Satellite Radio discuss diabetes and obesity; see exclusive photos of Elliott Yamin when he arrived at the White House to meet the President; see close-up photos of Taylor Hicks, Mandisa, Kellie Pickler, Chris Daughtry and others on tour, and much more.

Visit EddieTheDawg. org (http://EddieTheDawg. org (http://EddieTheDawg. org)) for more information or to sign-up or donate to one of the current featured events. Right now you can join Gregory Ellis on his first walk to find a cure for diabetes by walking with him, donating, or sending him a personal greeting online. You can also join a top online Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF team to collect donations that purchase "School-in-a-Box" kits to help kids get an education around the world.

If you are not one already, when you visit this Web site you may become a fan of the humanitarian side of these talented young men and woman and their supporters.

“Recessionistas” and Calorie Counters Lead 2010 Health Trends

“Recessionistas” and Calorie Counters Lead 2010 Health Trends

Calorie Control Council Predicts the Top Five Dieting Trends for 2010 -- Recessionistas and calorie counters will be leading the way in 2010, according to the Calorie Control Council. Recessionistas will be looking for value while also considering their overall health and counting calories.

Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) December 31, 2009

Recessionistas and calorie counters will be leading the way in 2010, according to the Calorie Control Council. Recessionistas will be looking for value while also considering their overall health and counting calories.

Beth Hubrich, a registered dietitian and executive director of the Calorie Control Council weighed in on this issue stating, “Consumers are considering their health as well as their pocketbooks. Although there may be an uptick in the economy, people are looking not only to improve their financial health but also their physical health.” The Calorie Control Council is an international association representing the low-calorie and reduced-fat food and beverage industry and has been tracking dieting and weight loss trends for more than 20 years.

Consumers are still expecting foods to provide added benefits and are looking for the most bang for their buck. Clipping coupons and looking for the best price on their favorite, healthier foods will continue to be in vogue with “recessionistas.” At the same time, watching calories and budgeting overall caloric intake will also remain important. And, in a cash strapped economy, consumers will look for easy, inexpensive ways to exercise.

The Council predicts the following five trends when it comes to dieting, weight loss and physical activity in 2010:

1. “Calories will remain king.” Although times are tough, consumers seem to understand that “calories still count.” In a nationally projectable Calorie Control Council survey, respondents stated some of the primary reasons for using low-calorie, sugar-free and reduced-calorie products are, “to stay in better overall health,” “to eat and drink healthier foods and beverages” and “to reduce calories.” By incorporating low-calorie foods such as diet sodas, light juices, and light yogurts, consumers can control calories while still enjoying their favorite foods on a reasonable budget. According to the Council’s survey, 194 million Americans consume low and reduced calorie products.

2. “Recessionistas” will look for added value in their foods and beverages. Heightened consumer awareness of the relationship between diet and health has increased the demand for “functional” foods. Leading health organizations have defined functional foods as foods or dietary components that can provide health benefits beyond basic nutrition. Sales of foods and beverages with added benefits and health claims that also fit into a reasonable budget are becoming more popular as consumers spend more time “weighing” food and beverage options for both price and nutrition. As consumers have driven the food and beverage market toward preventive health and wellness, there will likely be an increased demand for these “functional” foods and beverages in the coming year.

3. Natural nutrition. Although there is no clear definition of “natural,” some consumers prefer foods and beverages they perceive as natural. With so many new sugar-free foods and beverages on the market sweetened with stevia, consumers have more options than ever. There are now many tabletop sweeteners as well as several beverages sweetened with stevia.

4. Clipping coupons will remain in vogue. Just as “recessionistas” will look for foods and beverages to provide “functional benefits” they will also look for the best deals on their favorite foods. Consumers will pay attention to “dollar days,” specials at stores, and use coupons to help them save additional money.

5. “At home fitness” will become more important. With cash being king, many consumers will opt out of a gym membership and instead rely on “at home fitness” opportunities. Consumers will look to fitness DVDs, Wii’s and other opportunities to get more exercise at home. Walking around the neighborhood, biking on local bike trails and purchasing an inexpensive pedometer will all be worthwhile investments.

The trends for 2010 will focus on foods with “added value” – both health and dollar wise – while consumers look for ways to budget calories and dollars. For more information, along with free calorie and exercise calculators, visit: www. caloriecontrol. org.

New Consortium Unites Boutique Organic Growers And Restaurants

New Consortium Unites Boutique Organic Growers And Restaurants

Mendocino Area Resorts Champion Good Health & Sustainable Agriculture

MENDOCINO, CA (PRWEB) December 9, 2004

Following on the heels of Mendocino County's GMO-free initiative, small area growers and food suppliers are forming a cooperative amongst themselves and local restaurants to feature their products.

Restaurateur Gary Robinett, who operates the Elk Cove Inn & Spa's new 'ZEBO restaurant, initiated this community to help the smallest organic growers and food suppliers bring their products to market. According to Robinett, "It just seemed silly for area restaurants to overlook good local produce, while having the same products trucked in from miles away. It's a sensible alternative to farmers' markets and shortens the supply chain." Robinett describes his community as "large gardeners," rather than "small farmers". "The difference", he says, "is the care and quality that goes into their work. And this way, we get to deal directly with the hands that work the ground."

Mendocino's MacCallum House, which deals with somewhat larger local growers, is on a parallel tack to Robinett's unique movement. Jed Ayers and Alan Kantor, respectively Owner and Executive Chef, recently hosted a multi-sponsor, open-to-the-public tasting event to draw more attention to their effort.

Elk Cove Inn & Spa Owner David Lieberman says, "We're dedicated to relaxation and rejuvenation. It's nice to see our whole destination focused on well-being."

About the Elk Cove Inn & Spa

'ZEBO, a new organic restaurant located at the Elk Cove Inn & Spa serves up bountiful portions of California-inspired, American Bistro cuisine prepared in a modern rustic style, with a robust infusion of mouthwatering Southern flavor. Served up in a dramatic oceanfront setting, meals may be accompanied by cocktails at the town's only full-liquor bar. Perched on a cliff above a mile-long stretch of beach and tucked away in the hamlet of Elk, 150 miles north of San Francisco and minutes from the village of Mendocino, the Elk Cove Inn & Spa has 15 luxurious accommodations. Most of the inn's suites, cottages and Victorian rooms feature spectacular ocean views, and all have private baths, fireplaces, 400 thread count linens, down comforters and featherbeds. Guests enjoy a full buffet breakfast each morning. The Inn's European-style Day Spa offers visitors a full range of therapeutic massage services.

Raw Chicken Products Need Adequate Warnings and Instructions on Labels to Prevent Salmonella Poisoning

Raw Chicken Products Need Adequate Warnings and Instructions on Labels to Prevent Salmonella Poisoning

13% of raw broiler chickens are contaminated with Salmonella. 29 cases of Salmonella poisoning in Minnesota have been linked to raw chicken products. Food safety lawyer outlines need for adequate warnings and instructions on the labels of raw chicken products.

Minneapolis, MN (PRWEB) July 26, 2006

According to the United States Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (USDA-FSIS), about 13% of raw broiler chickens contain Salmonella, a dangerous pathogen that causes approximately 2 to 4 million cases of salmonellosis each year in the United States.

Most persons infected with Salmonella develop diarrhea, fever, and abdominal cramps 12 to 72 hours after infection. The illness usually lasts 4 to 7 days, and most persons recover without treatment. However, in some persons, the diarrhea may be so severe that the patient needs to be hospitalized. In these patients, the Salmonella infection may spread from the intestines to the blood stream. From there, the infection can spread to other body sites and can cause death unless the person is treated promptly with antibiotics. The elderly, infants, and those with impaired immune systems are most at risk.

Yet another outbreak of salmonellosis occurred recently in Minnesota. It involved 29 people who became ill after purchasing and consuming frozen chicken entrees at local food stores. These products contain raw chicken that has been coated with pre-browned breading, stuffed with ingredients and marketed as chicken cordon bleu, chicken Kiev or similar products.

Product directions indicate that microwaving these single-portion products is acceptable. The product packaging does not indicate the chicken is raw, and many people assume it is pre-cooked, especially given the browned exterior of the raw product.

Microwaving raw, frozen chicken is not safe, especially when people are led to believe that the product is pre-cooked.

“It is imperative that food producers be required to properly label their products,” commented Fred Pritzker, founding partner of Pritzker | Ruohonen & Associates, P. A. “Consumers should be advised that the chicken is raw and must be heated to a suitable internal temperature before consumption.”

Many salmonellosis outbreaks have occurred (and continue to occur) involving these products. “Our federal and state authorities must take prompt action to prevent these outbreaks from occurring by requiring suitable warnings and instructions on the food products that threaten our health,” continued Fred Pritzker.

Fred Pritzker is president and founder of Pritzker | Ruohonen & Associates, P. A., a leading food safety law firm that represents food poisoning victims nationwide. Pritzker | Ruohonen successfully represented several E. coli 0157:H7 victims in the 2000 outbreak involving hamburger purchased at Minnesota Cub Food Stores and is lead counsel for victims of the 2002 Northeast United States listeriosis outbreak that killed 12 people and injured more than 50 others. The firm has collected millions of dollars on behalf of victims of salmonellosis and other foodborne illnesses. Pritzker | Ruohonen has offices in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Product Paves Way for Chemical Free Gardening, Making the Garden Greener than Ever Before

Product Paves Way for Chemical Free Gardening, Making the Garden Greener than Ever Before

EcoRadiant Technology announces a new alternative chemical free product for the garden. Bio Plant Wash is now available for people wanting a greener garden without the use of harmful chemicals.

Dallas, Texas (Vocus) January 8, 2009

Those who are looking for an alternative to chemicals for the garden have just received what they are looking for. Bio Plant Wash is now available. It is a replacement for all garden chemicals that have been used in the past.

EcoRadiant Technology (www. ecoradianttechnology. com) has just announced it is now offering a replacement for all garden chemicals. Its Bio Plant Wash is a safe alternative for those who love to garden, as well as people who grow crops for a living.

The product was classified as readily biodegradable (http://www. ecoradianttechnology. com/) by the EPA, and it has gathered a great deal of excitement for those who have plants and crops. This wash is safe to use and it offers many benefits to those who work with plants.

The first benefit is it acts as a pesticide. The wash works to kill the insects safely, allowing the insects to be controlled without fear of harming the environment. Many people have put dangerous pesticides on their plants, and this eliminates the need for those pesticides. They are able to control the insects safely. Without the use of pesticides, they do not have to worry about harming the environment or themselves.

The wash also stimulates healthy plant growth. For many, this saves a great deal of money. Those who work in agriculture and need their crops to survive can lose thousands of dollars each season due to slow growth and premature death. By using the wash, they can promote healthy growth, which in turn saves them a great deal of money. In fact, a ten acre land owner reported he has saved $5000 annually by saving weakened plants.

In addition, the product helps with starter plant growth. When seeds are washed with Bio Plant Wash (http://www. ecoradianttechnology. com/) prior to planting, they are more apt to grow. Tests have shown starter plants are much more successful when they are washed prior to growth. This helps people get their gardens and crops started much easier.

Plants have also shown a stronger resistance to disease when the wash is used. They are less likely to get infested with disease, which means they are more likely to yield money for those who are in agriculture and beauty for those who have a garden.

NFL Network Announces Raiders’ Nnamdi Asomugha as National Spokesperson for Keep Gym in School Campaign

NFL Network Announces Raiders’ Nnamdi Asomugha as National Spokesperson for Keep Gym in School Campaign

NFL Network Announces Raiders’ Nnamdi Asomugha as National Spokesperson for Keep Gym in School Campaign and New “PE Teacher of the Year” Award. Comcast Joins as Exclusive Partner for 2010.

New York, NY (PRWEB) September 20, 2010

In response to the childhood obesity epidemic in the U. S., NFL Network announced today that it has enlisted Oakland Raiders’ cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha, as the first national spokesperson for the 2010 Keep Gym in School (KGIS) initiative and is also adding a new component to the campaign -- a NFL Network “PE Teacher of the Year” award.

As part of the league’s NFL PLAY 60 youth health and fitness campaign, Keep Gym in School is NFL Network’s comprehensive national program to boost fitness and physical education in America’s middle schools. In the first two years of the program, Keep Gym in School has awarded nearly $600,000 in grants to 45 schools which has increased and improved physical education for more than 348,000 students in 24 districts. Additionally, custom lesson plans have been provided to PE teachers at 196 schools, Fitness Challenges, created in partnership with NASPE (National Association for Sport and Physical Education), have been implemented at 417 schools and best-in-class professional development has been provided to close to 200 teachers.

For the first time, this year’s Keep Gym in School campaign will be honoring an “NFL Network PE Teacher of the Year.” The public can nominate PE teachers online at www. keepgyminschool. com between September 1-January 31 and the winning NFL Network “PE Teacher of the Year” will be announced at an event in New York City during 2011 NFL Draft Week. The winning teacher will receive a $10,000 award in addition to a $10,000 grant for his/her school’s PE program.

“NFL Network created the Keep Gym in School program with the goal of increasing access to in-school physical activity and teaching kids the skills they need to sustain a healthy lifestyle,” said Dena Kaplan, Senior Vice President, Marketing, NFL Network. “Only 35% of students are physically active for 60 minutes at least 5 days per week. And many schools are cutting back on PE programs due to of lack of resources at the same time that childhood obesity rates are climbing.”

Comcast is the new, exclusive partner for the 2010 NFL Network Keep Gym in School program, donating media value to air Public Service Announcements in the entertainment provider’s markets to help spread the word about the importance of physical education.

“Comcast is proud to partner with NFL Network on its Keep Gym in School campaign to help raise awareness about the importance of quality physical education programs in schools,” said Charisse R. Lillie, Vice President of Community Investment for Comcast Corporation, and Executive Vice President, Comcast Foundation. “This program tackles the serious health issue of childhood obesity in our country by providing resources that will help kids live healthier lives.”

“I am honored to support NFL Network’s Keep Gym in School Program because I believe that physical education is an essential component of a complete education,” said Nnamdi Asomugha. “PE courses educate children on the benefits of an active lifestyle and the importance of team work and perseverance; skills which have contributed greatly to my own personal career and life successes.”

NFL Network is proud to be continuing its Keep Gym in School grant initiative which funds major improvements to sports and fitness facilities at four middle schools every year. This year, NFL players including Nnamdi Asomugha from the Oakland Raiders, Brian Dawkins from the Denver Broncos, Antwaan Randle El and Rashard Mendenhall from the Pittsburgh Steelers and Michael Turner from the Atlanta Falcons will visit the four middle schools that have each been awarded a $25,000 grant. The players will lead the students at Kepner Middle School (Denver), Camp Creek Middle School (Atlanta), Roosevelt Middle School (Pittsburgh) and Arsenal Middle School (Oakland) in a pep rally, unveil the new physical education equipment and facilities made possible by the $25,000 and participate in an on-field mini-camp with fitness tests and football-inspired drills.

NFL Network is also expanding and improving its program in the following ways:
Keep Gym in School NFL Play 60 Challenge. Students from every middle school in the grantee’s district as well as former grant schools are invited to compete in an In-School Fitness Program to assess student fitness, encourage students to stay active and allow teachers to monitor student progress throughout the year. One student from each school district will earn a trip to the NFL Draft, based on their performance in the Fitness Program.

Continuing Support Grants. Middle schools in the eight districts that were beneficiaries in the last two years’ grant programs will be eligible for $2,500 continuing support grants. NFL Network will work with the districts to select recipients. All middle schools will also be offered the chance to participate in the NFL Play 60 Challenge.

Professional Development. In partnership with the National Association for Sport and Physical Education (NASPE), Keep Gym in School will offer professional development workshops for physical educators in the eight previous districts. In addition, football-inspired lesson plans and activity guides are available to PE instructors for free at http://www. keepgyminschool. com/educators. html (http://www. keepgyminschool. com/educators. html).

A final ongoing element of the NFL Network Keep Gym in School initiative is the Keep Gym in School National Honors at NFL Draft Week 2010. IPA SBRB Study: Manufacturers Optimistic About Business Prospects; More Confident About Prospects than Other Small and Medium-Size Business Sectors

IPA SBRB Study: Manufacturers Optimistic About Business Prospects; More Confident About Prospects than Other Small and Medium-Size Business Sectors

Projected revenue growth, hiring expected to remain strong.

Buffalo Grove, IL (PRWEB) August 24, 2006

Small and medium-size manufacturers are more optimistic than other industry segments with many owners and managers projecting revenue growth and continued hiring over the next 12 months, according to the results of an International Profit Associates Small Business Research Board (IPA SBRB) survey released here today.

The IPA SBRB Manufacturing Confidence Index was established at 45 for the first IPA SBRB manufacturing industry poll completed earlier this month. By contrast, the aggregated IPA SBRB Small Business Confidence Index (SBCI) for all small and medium-size businesses participating in the survey was 39.3, which represented a drop from 47.3 for the previous poll concluded in May 2006. Similarly, the confidence of construction and contracting firms dropped to 30.7 from the 49.3 that was registered three months ago.

The IPA SBRB has been tracking the attitudes of small businesses since July 2004. Earlier this year, the IPA SBRB began issuing reports for specialized industries, the first of which measured the attitudes of construction and contracting companies. Manufacturing represents the second focused industry study that will be conducted quarterly. A third focused industry study will be added when the next round of research is conducted during the beginning of the fourth quarter of 2006.

Nearly half of the manufacturers that responded to the poll indicated that they are forecasting improvement in the economy over the next 12 months and that a full 50% of them expect revenues to increase during this period. Nearly 40% said they expect revenues to remain about the same. This compares to the universe of all small businesses of which only 42 % believe the economy will improve during the next year and 46% of whom are expecting revenue growth. Among construction and contracting companies, 26% said they had confidence that the economy will improve. Of the construction and contracting firms responding to the survey, 40% are estimating that revenues will exceed current levels over the next 12 months.

Hiring among manufacturers is projected to remain healthy. During the next 12 months only 5% said they intend to decrease the workforce, 45% said it will remain the same and 38% believe they will add employees.

“There is a significant variance in the confidence levels of manufacturers versus those of the general small business community and those of construction companies and contractors. By the end of the year, we will be able to determine whether the perceived strength in the manufacturing is based upon existing orders or new contracts,” said Gregg Steinberg, President of International Profit Associates, the largest privately-held provider of management consulting and professional services to small and medium-size businesses in North America.

“Hopefully, manufacturing will not suffer the same slowdown occurring in the construction sector and that the optimism will turn into reality,” Steinberg added.

Nevertheless, finding quality employees, cost of materials, the general economy, and taxes -- listed as the top four issues of concern among manufacturers -- may present serious obstacles to meeting the growth projections.

Finding quality employees was listed by 17% of the manufacturing respondents as their most significant issue. Other major issues were cost of materials (16%), taxes, (13%) and economic conditions (12%).

“The fact that 12% of the manufacturers are concerned about the economy illustrates that there is a pocket of concern about the next 12 months and that some owners and managers are following the indicators should it be necessary to make adjustments necessary to manage profitability,” said Steinberg.

Surprisingly, only 2% of the manufacturers said energy and fuel were there greatest concern, while 15% of the universal group of all small businesses said it was their leading issue.

As far as other areas of interest, manufacturing firms had varied opinions about being prepared to handle emergencies, whether the minimum wage should be raised and the fate of the estate tax -- all of which were similar to the universe of all small to medium-size businesses.

Of the manufacturing firms, 34% said they have a disaster or emergency plan ready.

Manufacturing firms are split about the minimum wage, with 45% in favor of it being raised, 23% opposing an increase and 31% not certain.

The view on estate taxes are mixed as well with 21% opting for them remaining as they are, 25% abolishing them, 21% looking for a “change” and 21% unsure.

The International Profit Associates Small Business Research Board ascertains and reports the opinions of small business owners and managers on a wide variety of topics related to their own businesses as well as national and international issues that may impact their operations.

The IPA SBRB research includes studies of specific industry segments, such as Construction & Contracting and Manufacturing. The IPA Small Business Research Board will continue to expand upon the base of industries it tracks.

Participants in IPA SBRB polls provide feedback on significant issues and allow for real-time insight into the state of small businesses nationwide. The universe of participants is developed from among small businesses across the United States. IPA SBRB studies are voluntary surveys conducted via phone and email. Polls are structured and supervised through an independent resource.

Safecutters Inc. Rolls Out New Website -- New Website Provides Outstanding Selection of Safe Cutting Tools

Safecutters Inc. Rolls Out New Website -- New Website Provides Outstanding Selection of Safe Cutting Tools

New website provides outstanding selection of safe cutting tools. Safecutters, Inc., widely recognized as the go to company for SAFE cutting tools, announces the launch of its new website -- www. safecutters. com. The online store features a variety of utility/box cutters and package opening knives and related accessories.

Muskegon, MI (PRWEB) February 15, 2008

Safecutters, Inc., widely recognized as the go to company for SAFE cutting tools, announces the launch of its new website -- www. safecutters. com. The online store features a variety of utility/box cutters and package opening knives and related accessories.

"There is an increasing need for safe cutting tools," commented Tom Fri, Safecutters' President. "We put a lot of effort into our updated website design and structure. Our goal is to allow our customers to effortlessly locate and purchase our products online."

Indeed, in any given year, according to the US Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), nearly five million workers will experience injury or illness on the job, and more than half these injuries will be severe enough to send the worker home. Of these injuries, a third of them will be in the form of musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs), according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Such disorders are painful for workers and costly for employers, both in lost productivity and in workers' compensation claims. For workers who handle heavy packages on a regular basis, these injuries are both especially inconvenient and especially hard to avoid.

While industries such as manufacturing, retail, food, shipping and receiving account for the majority of Safecutters' sales, demand is also increasing for personal use. This heightened demand may be related to "wrap rage" -- a term apparently first used in print in a 2003 item in London's Daily Telegraph for that peculiar combination of irrational frustration brought on by today's hard-to-remove product packaging. No matter the reason, safety knives are moving from the stockroom to the living room. Gardeners, shoppers, handymen and handywomen, eBayers, and others are more inclined these days to stock a box cutter in the toolbox, workshop, kitchen or home office.

Along with the top selling Klever Kutter, a box cutter approved by the Department of Homeland Security for safe air transport, the new website features a variety of other cutting products and accessories.

"Orders started coming within moments of the new site being launched," said Tom Fri, Safecutters President. "We encourage customers to check back with our website frequently to stay up to date with our ever changing product line. At Safecutters, we believe in making utility, cutting and packaging knives as safe and useful as possible."

Safecutters Inc. provides an online store of utility knife box cutters for opening shipping boxes and shipping packages, as well as safety knives to open moving boxes and packages. For more information about Klever Kutter and Klever Koncept and other Safecutters products visit our website.

Long Island Pediatric Group Announces Policy Changes That Will Help More New Yorkers

Long Island Pediatric Group Announces Policy Changes That Will Help More New Yorkers

Allied Pediatrics of New York, PLLC (APNY), a group of 18 established and highly regarded pediatrics practices in Queens, Nassau and Suffolk counties in New York, announced today exciting policy changes that will allow the reach of their care to extend to thousands more New York children than in the past.

Jericho, NY (Vocus) March 10, 2010

Allied Pediatrics of New York, PLLC (APNY), a group of 18 established and highly regarded pediatrics practices in Queens, Nassau and Suffolk counties in New York, announced today exciting policy changes that will allow the reach of their care to extend to thousands more New York children than in the past.

To cater to working parents and to prevent long wait times at the Emergency Room, APNY opened an After Hours Center in Jericho, New York in 2008. In response to a growing need for readily available, affordable pediatric care, APNY announced today changes to the After Hours Center that include the extension of their weekday (Monday through Friday) hours from 6:00 p. m. to 11:00 p. m., and the addition of Sunday office hours from 12:00 to 5:00 p. m.

APNY will also extend the reach of care available to any child—regardless of whether that patient regularly sees a doctor in the APNY system. This means that any patient with insurance coverage accepted by APNY, as well as any patient interested in paying out-of-pocket for their appointment and associated services, now has the ability to call the Center for an appointment to be seen during evening hours rather than make an expensive (and often unnecessary) trip to the emergency room. In addition to this change in policy, which opens the Center doors to thousands of children previously not eligible for after hours care, APNY also announced acceptance of several new insurances at both the Center and in all their practices’ offices, including Blue Cross, Blue Shield and United Healthcare. Patients with either of these insurance plans, as well as the many others accepted by APNY, will now benefit from having a convenient, in-network resource for their children’s medical services not previously available on Long Island.

“As we enter what is expected to be a tough flu season, these announcements are incredibly exciting for both us and the public at large,” noted Gary Mirkin, MD, CEO of APNY. “Working parents have long-sought affordable, convenient care for their children that do not require them to make major sacrifices at work. With the change in our acceptance policy, and our ability to now accept the most widely-popular insurance plans on Long Island, we are able to provide exactly what the working parent so desperately needs.”

Dr. Mirkin noted that if the Center sees a substantial increase in patients, a decision to offer even lengthier hours or open other centers will be imminent. “Our mission is clear—we aim to provide the highest quality of care to our patients. If our patients now include every child on Long Island, we will take the necessary measures to ensure each and every child can be treated. We will not turn anyone away.”

With healthcare reform a major national issue, APNY’s change in policy is a refreshing patient-first answer in what has become a policy-driven industry. Parents interested in visiting the Center to have their child seen need only call during office hours. Doctors affiliated with the Center caution that it serves the same functions as a primary care pediatric office, and that any cases requiring emergency care should still be referred to an Emergency Room.

To learn more about the APNY After Hours Center, including hours of operation, location, insurance plans accepted and directions, visit www. APNYafterhours. com. For more information about Allied Pediatrics of New York, visit www. alliedpeds. com.

About Allied Pediatrics of New York, PLLC:
Allied Pediatrics of New York, PLLC is a single-specialty “mega” pediatrics group created when eighteen established and highly-regarded practices in Queens, Nassau and Suffolk Counties came together to improve the quality of pediatric care. Each practice became a Division of APNY and retains clinical control over their offices. Their collective mission is to provide the highest quality care to their patients. To achieve this goal, the group supports increased clinical research, evaluation of new techniques and technologies in healthcare, and the promotion of an enterprise—wide continuous quality improvement program based on evidence-based clinical guidelines.

Wake Forest, NC (PRWEB) April 29, 2009

Diagnostic Imaging Solutions, Inc. has selected Retasure™ by Digital Healthcare, a Wake Forest, NC company specializing in retinal health assessment for diabetics.

Established in 2006, Diagnostic Imaging Solutions, Inc. is among Colorado's leading mobile ultrasound imaging companies. With a team of highly qualified and experienced staff offering the latest in technology, Diagnostic Imaging Solutions, Inc., adds diabetic retinal screening to the full range of mobile services they offer to physicians and their offices. Diagnostic Imaging Solutions, Inc. delivers personalized care and health-related services consistent with the highest quality medical and ethical standards to improve the health status of the people they serve.

"Our goal is to provide physicians with as many quality mobile on-site services as possible," said Jason Russo, President of Diagnostic Imaging Solutions. "Incorporating Retasure's retinal assessment tools, we are able to expand the services we provide to physicians, allowing them to increase their quality of care for patients. Finding eye complications earlier means diabetic patients will have a much better chance of preserving their vision."

The Retasure™ solution developed by Digital Healthcare provides a simple, affordable, and non-invasive solution that allows physicians to capture their patients' retinal images during a three to five minute procedure. Images are transmitted over a secure network to an accredited reading center. Scott Sanner, Senior Vice President of North American Operations for Digital Healthcare agrees. "Retasure ™ in the primary care setting improves the chances of prevention of unnecessary sight loss. The National Eye Institute states that diabetic retinopathy is the leading cause of blindness among working age adults in America," he says, "but fewer than half of all diabetic patients are assessed annually for retinopathy, despite the high frequency of this complication."

Digital Healthcare's Retasure solution offers several advantages for primary care and endocrinologist physicians and their patients: It can be operated by non-clinicians; it is non-invasive and requires no dilation; and it obtains exceptionally high-quality digital images of the retina. This FDA-approved technology is used by a broad range of doctors and facilities throughout the United States and the United Kingdom, including leading hospitals and research centers, primary care groups, private ophthalmology and optometry groups, family practice residency centers, and internal, multi-specialty and endocrinology groups.

Dr. Kota J. Reddy Develops PPR Program: Preventing Heart Attacks, Preventing Strokes, Repair Damage to the Heart

Dr. Kota J. Reddy Develops PPR Program: Preventing Heart Attacks, Preventing Strokes, Repair Damage to the Heart

New program to prevent heart attacks, strokes and damage to your heart. Advanced technology and techniques for every person to stop the number one killer, heart disease.

Houston, TX (PRWEB) May 25, 2006

Dr. Reddy’s courageous confrontation challenges standard Angiograms, Cholesterol, EKG and Treadmill tests because even if you get a clean bill of health, you could have a heart attack or stroke thereafter. Dr. Reddy uses highly advanced testing for evaluating each individual’s heart health and customizes specialized treatment, based on specific patient factors. The most dangerous cholesterol of all may be one that's not being measured.

According to Dr. Reddy, the question most asked is can you really eliminate heart attacks, strokes and repair heart damage? “Absolutely and it’s not that difficult. The PPR program is based on identifying specific risk factors, then customizing treatment for each individual. Should you go on high protein, low protein, high carb, low carb diet? No one can give that answer until they determine what problems need correcting.”

Don Brown, recent patient, explained, “All these years going to doctors and cardiologists, they told me my blood pressure, triglycerides and bad cholesterol are a little high, good cholesterol low, so lose weight and exercise. I took that information to mean I was OK, but I needed some work. I truly believe Dr. Reddy’s PPR program saved my life.”

To get his message to the public, Dr. Reddy has produced an extremely informative video that explains the testing, procedures and information you can use to prevent Heart Attacks, Strokes and Repair damage to your heart. The program includes vivid medical animations to easily understand specific information about heart functions and potential problems. Dr. Reddy not only explains in detail what causes heart attacks and strokes, he shows the steps you can take to NNR. This is not a “sales” program for services or products, it’s information than can save your life. This DVD or VHS can be obtained from the production company, Digital 2000, Inc., for only $19.95, plus S/H/Texas Tax.

Through the partnership with Baker & Taylor, SchoolCAT cataloguers will now have the ability to purchase titles directly when acquiring a MARC record. This unique functionality couples similar tasks relating to collection development to efficiently catalog and acquire titles through one convenient interface, thereby streamlining processes and saving valuable time for library staff.

“We take pride in constantly expanding our products and services to our library customers. Recognizing the heavy workload of school librarians, we’re working to centralize and automate routine library transactions to simplify their workflow and increase productivity,” stated Paul Cope, Auto-Graphics’ President. “This convenient, new e-commerce gateway is an important distinction and advantage over other cataloging alternatives in the marketplace.”

Baker & Taylor's School Selection solution provides all of the online ordering capabilities that librarians require, plus access to a comprehensive collection of over 800,000 titles. School Selection makes locating and ordering books, video, and audio fast and easy. It also provides its users E-Lists, easy-to-use drop down lists for selecting subject, grade level, age, curriculum and awards. All transactions are seamlessly and securely conducted through the SchoolCAT module, with purchases fulfilled and shipped to the customer by Baker & Taylor.

“We are thrilled to partner with Auto-Graphics and offer its K-12 library customers the ability to be part of a revolutionary new service,” said Phil LaBoon, Vice President of School divisions at Baker & Taylor. “It is just another example of how we strive to listen to the market’s needs.”

Ferndale Farmers' Market Seeks to Add Produce Vendors, Gardeners to the Mix

Ferndale Farmers' Market Seeks to Add Produce Vendors, Gardeners to the Mix

The Ferndale Farmers' Market is in its second year of operation, and is currently trying to encourage more local farmers and local gardeners to participate in the Saturday program. There are no stall fees or pricing restrictions.

Ferndale, WA (PRWEB) August 14, 2007

The Ferndale Farmers' Marketis currently seeking locally based produce farmers and gardeners who would like to sell their produce every Saturday morning through the month of October. According to farmer and organizer Walter Haugen, the Ferndale, Wash.-based market is small and informal -- and run by farmers.

"We cater to the unique Ferndale perspective," Haugen said. "We can't describe it but, we know it's there."

Haugen said the market operates June through October, on Saturdays from 11 am to 3 p. m. in the parking lot at Benson's Country Market, on the west side of Ferndale. To find the market, take Main Street west to the intersection of Douglas Road, just past the library.

"Buying local produce not only supports farmers in your community, but the produce is fresher and retains more vitamins and minerals than food shipped from long distances," Haugen said. "Eating foods that are in-season locally also promotes better health by satisfying your tastes and nutritional needs that change seasonally."

Ferndale Farmers' Market is in its second year of operation, and Haugen said he is actively encouraging more local farmers to participate. Haugen said there are no stall fees or pricing restrictions, and home gardeners are encouraged to sell their bounty if they have a bumper crop of even one or two items. Interest in the market will hopefully parallel the growth of the city's community gardens, slated to open next spring, said Haugen.

"Our members participate in numerous community programs, including Food to Bank On, which distributes fresh produce to area food banks, Local Harvest, Growing Washington, Sustainable Connections, Northwest Youth Services, Red Mountain House Foster Care Assessment and Family to Family," Haugen said. " We are also listed on the Whatcom County Farm Map."

About the Ferndale Farmers' Market Founders
Walter Haugen, the organizer and contact person for the Ferndale Farmers' Market, is a small-organic grower from Ferndale. He can trace his farming lineage back to 1602 in Sogn, Norway, and grew up on a dairy farm in Minnesota. After many adventurous twists and turns in his adult life (including teaching anthropology and being a ringmaster in a circus), he is now back on the farm, pulling weeds instead of milking cows. His significant other, Toni Lyons, is a social worker of long standing and continues to try and save the world, one child at a time. She finds pulling weeds to be a relaxing change of pace. They are trying to model their farm on sustainable and calorie-efficient methods, which (of course) includes pulling lots of weeds. Produce gardeners, farmers or anyone interested the Ferndale Farmers' Market should contact Haugen at (360) 312-0335.

ZIGGY MAKES ENVIRONMENTAL STATEMENT FOR EARTH DAY

ZIGGY MAKES ENVIRONMENTAL STATEMENT FOR EARTH DAY

Comic Icon Joins Earth Day Network’s 2003 “Water for Life” Campaign

Cleveland, OH (PRWEB) May 1, 2003 -

Man is doing his part to pick up our planet by reinforcing the message of Earth Day Network in an effort to make “every”-man aware of the things that “any”-man can do on Earth Day, April 22nd, to help our environment.

Every year, millions of people use Earth Day to focus their efforts on important environmental issues. For the past twelve years, Earth Day Network has helped by providing issue-based activity guides. Ziggy joins Earth Day Network to spread the word of the environmental awareness campaign, encouraging people to take part in making our environment safe and healthy.

This year, the Earth Day themeis "Water for Life," coinciding with the UN International Year of Freshwater. As essential to our lives as well as all other life on Earth, Earth Day Network provides some facts about the EarthÂ’s water supply:

• A fixed amount of water exists on and around the Earth. Although 70% of the Earth is water, most of it is not fit to drink. Only a tiny fraction (approximately 1%) of the EarthÂ’s water is fresh, clean, and accessible for human use.

• More than 1 billion people in the world do not have access to safe water. Over 3 million people in the world die each year as a result of preventable water related disease.

• Rainwater runoff from city streets may contain metals, oil, and other pollutants. Once these substances contaminate groundwater, it is very difficult and expensive to clean it up.

• Since 1950, the global use of water has more than tripled.

• By 2025, it is predicted that 3.5 billion people world-wide will experience water shortages.

Tom Wilson II, artist of the daily comic strip icon, Ziggy, explains Ziggy’s involvement for Earth Day and the campaign for awareness on fresh water this year. “Everything and anything happens to Ziggy and he always looks at things through his optimistic eyes. By helping to express environmental concerns, Ziggy believes he can help raise awareness of water concerns, lower the effects of negative influences on the environment, and ask his friends and fans to participate in their local Earth Day events to help celebrate nature,” Wilson said.

Earth Day Network is the nonprofit coordinating body of worldwide Earth Day activities, which has a goal to promote a healthy environment and a peaceful, just, sustainable world by spreading environmental awareness through educational materials and publications, and by organizing events, activities, and annual campaigns. The network, which includes more than 5,000 organizations in 184 countries, was founded by the organizers of the original Earth Day in 1970, Gaylord Nelson and Denis Hayes, and is based in Washington, DC.

With Earth Day Network, Ziggy wants everyone to know that anyone can play a part in helping the environment. Ziggy requests all his fans to join him on Earth Day in being more environmentally conscience, water conservative, energy efficient, and encourage others to do the same.

"Ziggy's got it exactly right," said Kathleen Rogers, president of Earth Day Network. "Everyone can help protect the planet with small steps to conserve water. You can go out and participate in group activities, or take simple steps with things you can do at home," she said.

According to The Earth Day Network, Ziggy is resounding some of the simple things anyone can do at home and in their community, like:

• Turn off the Water – Turn off the water when you brush your teeth or shave, and fix those leaky faucets.

• Clean Up a Stretch of a Local Stream - Visit the nearest body of water, lake, stream, ocean, or estuary. Look for and catalog evidence of human use and occupation. Is there garbage in or near the water? Sort and classify the garbage. Is the water discolored or spotted with foam? Is there visible life in the water or at the edge? Make a survey of the local fish markets to find out where their fish comes from. Ask about the quality of the local bodies of water.

• Install a low-flow, energy efficient showerhead. YouÂ’ll be singing in the shower, “We're in the Money," as a low-flow, energy-efficient showerhead saved 27 cents a day on water and 51 cents on electricity. Earth Day can be the day to install low-flow toilets, shower-heads, and faucet aerators.

• Contact your local recycling office to find out how to dispose of nasty chemicals that can pollute the water supply. Paints, solvents, pesticides, wood finishers, and non-biodegradable household cleaners are chemicals that many people have around their homes. If disposed of improperly, they can seep into the ground or enter the water supply. Even batteries are harmful and toxic.

• Monitor lawn and garden care. Fertilizers and pesticides can seep into the ground, or run off into a near by water supply. Also, donÂ’t waste water and kill plants by over watering gardens and lawns, and donÂ’t water mid-day when the sun will evaporate the water your lawn needs.

Beginning this year, Earth Day NetworkÂ’s new goal is to provide educational materials for students to take civic action to protect the environment. April 22nd is an opportunity to highlight student environmental efforts, integrate service learning, and encourage civic participation. Earth Day Network is providing, a "WhatÂ’s in Your Water?" guide. In the guide, there is basic information about water quality and lesson plans with simple, fun hands-on water quality tests. The guide helps teachers and students measure the health of local water resources and take beginning steps toward becoming responsible citizens. There are also many suggestions for action and civic participation based on your "snapshot" results. An inexpensive test kit is available or you can create your own simplified version from the website, www. earthday. net.

Canadian Pharmacy Inundated with American Patients

Canadian Pharmacy Inundated with American Patients

Online Canadian pharmacy sees jump in American patients as U. S. recession progresses

Langley, British Columbia (PRWEB) November 9, 2010

The flow of Americans visiting a Canada pharmacy website has climbed steadily since the recession began in the USA. NorthWestPharmacy. com, an online Canadian pharmacy which offers international medications as well as Canada’s drugs has seen a large upsurge each quarter in the number of new American patients since the U. S. recession began in December 2007. Canadian drugs are well-known to cost about half as much as the very same medications in the USA. But what does the recession have to do with the increase of Americans patronizing Canada Pharmacy websites?

“Every month hundreds of thousands of Americans were losing their jobs and with that many were losing their health care insurance,” says Aman Bhangu, Canadian pharmacy Manager for one of NorthWestPharmacy. com’s licensed Canadian pharmacies. A registered pharmacist in Washington State as well as Alberta and British Columbia, Mr. Bhangu used to work for a large U. S. pharmacy chain. “It was really disheartening to see so many patients without adequate insurance pay thousands of dollars out of their pockets for medications they could have been getting for so much less from a Canadian pharmacy website like NorthWestPharmacy. com. I am much happier helping save Americans a bundle than charging them a fortune,” he says.

Joel Edward, a baby boomer in Florida who lost his job and health insurance last year agrees, “I saved $3000 on my blood pressure and arthritis pills at North West Pharmacy in the last year alone – a Canadian pharmacy can be a lifesaver for someone like me.”

NorthWestPharmacy. com does not dispute the fact that many out of work Americans and those with poor health coverage need to turn to online pharmacies in Canada in order to afford their medications. But proceeding with caution is urged. There are numerous reports of unscrupulous operators preying on those seeking Canada’s drugs online. Mr. Bhangu provides the following safety checklist to look for when evaluating a Canada pharmacy website:
Requires a prescription from your own doctor Certified by the Canadian International Pharmacy Association (CIPA) and when clicking the CIPA seal the consumer lands on the cipa. com landing page to ensure the seal is not a fake buySAFE approved website which independently guarantees every purchase against identity theft as well as the lowest price and customer satisfaction TRUSTe privacy certified Provides a toll-free call center and access to licensed pharmacists for medication counseling questions

NorthWestPharmacy. com is available 7 days a week online or by toll-free phone to ensure that Canadian drugs can be purchased in a safe and secure manner with a substantial savings.

Preventive Cardiologist Dr. James O’Keefe Announces New Environmentally Friendly Ocean Safe Omega 3 for American Heart Month

Preventive Cardiologist Dr. James O’Keefe Announces New Environmentally Friendly Ocean Safe Omega 3 for American Heart Month

Preventive Cardiologist Dr. James O’Keefe recently announced a new, environmentally-friendly Omega 3 product called CardioTabs Ocean Safe Omega 3 made from sustainable marine oil in time for American Heart Month ( http://www. oceansafeomega3.com ). The news coincides with national headlines from major media organizations such as the New York Times as well as top environmental, wellness and health care bloggers regarding the increased demand for omega 3 rich foods and oils and the environmental strain it’s imposing on our oceans’ ecosystems.

Kansas City, MO (PRWEB) January 31, 2010

Preventive Cardiologist Dr. James O’Keefe recently announced a new, environmentally-friendly Omega 3 product called CardioTabs Ocean Safe Omega 3 made from sustainable marine oil in time for American Heart Month (http://www. oceansafeomega3.com (http://www. oceansafeomega3.com)). The news coincides with national headlines from major media organizations such as the New York Times as well as top environmental, wellness and health care bloggers regarding the increased demand for omega 3 rich foods and oils and the environmental strain it’s imposing on our oceans’ ecosystems.

Read the CardioTabs Ocean Safe Omega 3 white paper: http://foreveryoungdiet. com/green/ (http://foreveryoungdiet. com/green/)

According to Dr. James O’Keefe, CardioTabs Ocean Safe Omega 3 is necessary. “If you eat fish once a day or two, three times a day, you end up with high mercury levels. So it’s a catch twenty-two. If you eat enough omega 3 from fish in your diet, you end up with too many toxic contaminants in your system -- at least in some instances,” said O’Keefe. “We (CardioTabs) have very pure, proven natural supplements that will get our (omega 3) levels back up to normal. If you are deficient in an essential nutrient, that’s a problem. One of the (most) predictable deficiencies in most Americans is that they are deficient in omega 3.”

Watch Dr. O’Keefe: http://oceansafeomega3.com/ocean-safe-omega-3-youtube/ (http://oceansafeomega3.com/ocean-safe-omega-3-youtube/)

CardioTabs Ocean Safe Omega 3 oil, which is made from sustainable calamari, is obtained via safe, net-free fishing techniques that do not destroy the ocean habitat or deplete fish stocks, according to a company white paper: http://foreveryoungdiet. com/green/ .  (http://foreveryoungdiet. com/green/ . ); Calamari are naturally high in DHA, one of the most important fatty acids for human health and one of the most common nutritional deficiencies in the American diet. Calamari are also inherently resistant to over-fishing as they have very short life spans, reach reproductive age quickly and reproduce rapidly. Read more about the lifecycle of calamari: http://foreveryoungdiet. com/green/ (http://foreveryoungdiet. com/green/).

CardioTabs recognizes that although one product can not solve the issue of over-fishing, the company is excited to offer a small way to reduce its own and its customers’ impact on the ocean ecosystem.

Preventive Cardiologist Dr. James O’Keefe is a native of North Dakota and graduate of the Baylor College of Medicine. He completed both his cardiovascular fellowship and medicine residency at the Mayo Graduate School of Medicine in Rochester, Minn. He is board-certified in cardiovascular disease and in internal medicine and is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology and the AHA Council of Clinical Cardiology. Dr. O'Keefe is in clinical practice with Cardiovascular Consultants of the Mid-America Heart Institute and is heavily involved with clinical research, with over 300 peer-reviewed publications and several books to his credit.

Do you know the true source of your Psoriasis?

Do you know the true source of your Psoriasis?

The medications you take for your psoriasis may be seriously harmful to your health. Find out what causes it and natural ways to treat it.

(PRWEB) August 11, 2005

Psoriasis is a chronic, recurring disease that causes one or more raised, red patches that have silvery scales and a distinct border between the patch and normal skin. Also characterized by disorders of the body and allergies. Sometimes the joints hurt, as in arthritis.

Psoriasis may be caused by incomplete protein digestion and bowel toxemia. It can be aggravated by skin injury, emotional stress, and some forms of infection or irritation, such as cuts, burns, rashes or insect bites.

Factors that can cause a flare-up of psoriasis include sunburn, stress, hormone imbalance, allergic reactions, toxic substances, food, and vitamin, mineral and nutrient deficiencies, poor health, cold, and frequent friction. Ten percent or more of psoriasis sufferers have a tendency to psoriatic arthritis.

Research has shown a link between psoriasis and the body's ability to properly use fat and create necessary breakdown products. Other factors that appear to play roles in the development of psoriasis are heredity and Vitamin D deficiency.

The patches of psoriasis occur because of an abnormally high rate of growth of skin cells. The reason for the rapid cell growth is unknown, but a problem with the immune system is thought to play a role.

Psoriasis Facts

-Early sign of enzyme deficiency.

-Affects more than 6.4 million Americans

-2nd most common skin disease in the U. S.

-Leading cause of disability

-Each year another 150,000 cases are diagnosed (Lisa Levan, The Psoriasis Cure, 1999). - First strikes most people between the ages of 15 and 35.

Research has shown that people with psoriasis commonly have decreased levels of vitamin A and zinc. -Inflammation is a characteristic symptom of psoriasis.

Prolonged stress makes your adrenal glands work overtime. This will cause your adrenal glands to become exhausted and cease producing cortisone (steroid hormones). Extreme losses of potassium can also cause a depletion of cortisone. This lack of cortisone contributes to the onset of psoriasis.

People with psoriasis have problems with their immune systems, which are determined largely by the functioning of the thymus gland.

Toxins

Alcohol consumption increases the absorption of toxins in your gut and impairs your liver function making your psoriasis worse. A deficiency in B vitamins also makes it very hard for your liver to do its job.

Toxic substances produced by faulty digestion include polyamines which prevent the body from making cyclic AMP, regulators of metabolism in the cells. You need cyclic AMP to keep your cells from going nuts and reproducing too fast.

Free radicals are indirect causes of psoriasis in that they can damage your skin tissue and decrease your body's production of cyclic AMP. They also indirectly cause inflammation. Free radicals can be produced by exposure to environmental pollution, tobacco smoke, radiation, cooked fats, and alcohol. Your body also produces free radicals naturally when you use energy.

Removing Toxins From Your Body

The liver is pivotal for purifying the blood and plays a key role in converting carbohydrates to energy, as well as storing energy in the form of glycogen and fats. An overburdened liver can affect our energy, digestion, skin and blood. Cleansing the liver can remove toxins and alleviate the problems caused by them.

Phototherapy

Phototherapy uses ultraviolet light to treat skin disorders such as psoriasis. It is often used in combination with various topical drugs, particularly when large areas of skin are involved.

Treating Psoriasis with pH Balance

Psoriasis, eczema, dermatitis, dry skin, allergies, and similar problems indicate an excessive acidic pH in the body.

The ideal pH for human blood is between 7.4 and 7.6. Preserving this alkalinity (pH balance) is the bedrock on which sound health and strong bodies are built. When the blood becomes more acidic, the foundation of health is undermined. This creates an environment where we become vulnerable to disease and runaway yeast and fungus overgrowth.

To restore alkalinity: carefully monitor your diet, avoid the use of antibiotics, use essential oils, use alkaline minerals, lower stress, and boost friendly flora.

The DNA in the nucleus inside the cells of the body is alkaline and is also sensitive to the corrosive effects of acidity. The more urine that is produced, the more easily the body keeps its interior alkaline. Clear urine is an indicator of an efficient acid-clearing mechanism, and dark yellow or orange urine is an ominous sign of impending acid burns in the interior of the body.

Non-Drug Treatments with Essential Oils

Try the following essential oils for relief of psoriasis symptoms: Bergamot, Cedarwood, Coriander, Lavender, Myrtle, Peppermint, and Thyme.

It is also important to exercise regularly, manage stress, and practice good sleep habits.

Any effective treatment for psoriasis should include use of shampoos, toothpastes, and lotions free of irritants/toxins such as sodium lauryl sulfate and propylene glycol.
