DePuy Hip Recall Settlements May Stick Hip Replacement Users with Major Medical Bills Warns Prominent Products Liability Lawyer

DePuy Hip Recall Settlements May Stick Hip Replacement Users with Major Medical Bills Warns Prominent Products Liability Lawyer

After speaking with hundreds of people impacted by the DePuy hip recall, lawyer James Onder warns those with the recalled hip replacement system to take advantage of the many attorneys offering a free case review before accepting a DePuy hip recall settlement

St. Louis, MO (Vocus) November 5, 2010

The attorneys of The Onder Law Firm have handled hundreds of products liability cases, but haven’t seen defendants use independent claims adjusters to reach settlements with those who might file suit until the DePuy hip recall of it’s ASR line of hip replacement systems. DePuy Orthopaedics, Inc., a subsidiary of Johnson & Johnson announced the recall of approximately 93,000 ASR XL Acetabular Hip Replacement and ASR Hip Resurfacing Systems on August 26, 2010 due to an unacceptably high rate of failure that requires a revision surgery in 1 out of 8 implant recipients within the first 5 years of use. The Onder Law Firm have created a web site at http://www. depuyhiprecallattorney. com/ devoted to providing information about the DePuy hip recall.

Since that time, the attorneys handling DePuy hip recall cases at the firm have responded to the inquiries of hundreds of concerned and frightened DePuy hip replacement recipients and their families. Fears have ranged from elderly individuals with failing hip replacement systems and other health problems preventing them from undergoing another hip replacement surgery, thus dooming them to spend the remainder of the lives in a wheelchair to people in their thirties who have now undergone multiple hip replacements using the failing systems and have experienced significant bone loss, limited the life span of future hip replacements and even the ability to be fit with future hip replacements, creating worries about their future ability to walk. Almost all persons affected by the DePuy hip recall are worried about being stuck with medical bills, either for procedures needed immediately or for future problems that may occur. Most recently the firm’s hip recall attorneys have heard worries about the potential cancer dangers over the release of chromium and cobalt from the wear of the hip replacement systems.

“There are now hundreds if not thousands of DePuy hip recall lawyers offering a free legal consultation to those with the DePuy ASR or Pinnacle hip replacement systems, not just accept what DePuy’s claims adjusters are telling and offering them” stated James Onder, founding partner at Onder, Shelton, O’Leary & Peterson, LLC.

Onder, Shelton, O’Leary & Peterson, LLC is a St. Louis based-personal injury law firm handling serious injury and death claims across the country. The attorneys at Onder, Shelton, O’Leary & Peterson are offering free legal consultation with a DePuy hip recall attorney to all persons who have had a hip replacement with the DePuy ASR XL Acetabular or Pinnacle Hip Replacement Systems. Onder, Shelton, O’Leary & Peterson have represented clients throughout the United States, and other firms throughout the nation often seek its experience and expertise on complex litigation. It is a recognized leader in products liability cases such as window blind cord strangulation and pharmaceutical litigation.

Stay Fit on Vacation: Take Your Personal Trainer Along with the Number One Me Fitness System

Stay Fit on Vacation: Take Your Personal Trainer Along with the Number One Me Fitness System

Anyone can keep their fitness and health goals in sight, even when on vacation, thanks to the Number One Me fitness system, developed by lifestyle expert David Berger, who was recently featured on the 10! Show.

Wilmington, DE (PRWEB) June 30, 2007

Maintaining health and fitness goals while on vacation is no longer a challenge, thanks to the Number One Me personal fitness system developed by lifestyle expert David Berger. Through the system, Number One Me enables anyone with a DVD player or Internet access to take a personal trainer with them wherever they go.

"Vacation doesn't have to be a roadblock in achieving your health and fitness goals," said fitness guru and leading personal trainer David Berger. "All that is needed is a few simple and do-able steps to ensure that your hard work at home does not go by the wayside while on the road."

Berger said vacationers can relax and still maintain their fitness and offered a few tips:

1. Plan ahead. Bring walking shoes. Call in advance to see what gym amenities your hotel may provide. Once you know, you can decide if you need to bring additional equipment like travel weights.

2. Don't create barriers; create opportunities. If there's no gym, get creative. Use the stairs, pool or even the floor of the hotel room. Some rooms are even equipped with DVD players that are perfect for using the Number One Me DVD on the go.

3. Practice PO-TEN-TIAL. Don't underestimate the power of 10 minutes to increase active living. Get at least 10 minutes of devoted full-body exercise time per day; walking, jogging, playing with kids, swimming -- any full body motion works.

4. Opt for walking. Ditch the elevator or taxi for physical activity that you'll thank yourself for later. Take scenic walks or sight-see on foot; every little bit helps.

5.Get active. Incorporate fitness into vacation activities seamlessly. Climb up a mountain, go for a walk on the beach or take a bike ride. Whatever the physical activity may be, allowing yourself to burn calories while having fun is always a win-win situation.

While you can't expect to be able to do a full routine, you'll feel better knowing you maintained some of those healthy habits. For more information on David Berger and his Number One Me personal fitness system, please visit www. numberoneme. com.

Overall Cap Rate Indices Decline For All But Healthcare/Senior Housing, Reports RealtyRates. com

Overall Cap Rate Indices Decline For All But Healthcare/Senior Housing, Reports RealtyRates. com

Commercial real estate research firm RealtyRates. com reports overall cap rate indices declined during the 2nd Quarter, 2003 for all income-producing property types except Healthcare and Senior Housing

(PRWEB) August 3, 2003

BRADENTON, FL (PRWEB) August 3, 2003 Largely reflecting a drop in Treasury rates to which most commercial real estate mortgages are indexed, composite overall capitalization rate (OAR) indices decreased during the 2nd Quarter for all but one of the 11 property categories tracked as part of the RealtyRates. com Investor Survey.

Decreases in some lender spreads (but sans corresponding decreases in debt coverage ratios), were also noted with regard to some property categories, as were a widening of equity dividend spreads with minimums declining somewhat.

The composite average OAR index for all property categories decreased 28 basis points or 2.6% from 10.82% in the 1st Quarter of 2003 to 10.54% in the 2nd Quarter. The most dramatic decrease was recorded by the volatile Special Purpose sector, down a full 111 basis points after a 138 point gain in the 1st Quarter. It was followed by the Office and Restaurant sectors with 57 and 48 point declines, respectively.

The smallest decrease was recorded by the Lodging sector with a 20 basis point decline, followed by the Industrial and Mobile Home/RV Park-Campground sectors, both of which dropped 31 basis points.

The nearly across-the-board decrease in OAR indices continues the quarterly roller coaster pattern that appears to be largely a function of the Federal Reserve's manipulation of interest rates, as the OAR index for all property types has actually remained relatively stable in the 10.32% to 10.89% range for 2½ years.

As to the 43 basis point increase noted for the Healthcare/Senior Housing sector, this is viewed as an overdue correction that RealtyRates. com analysts surmised from considerable recent anecdotal evidence and that is now confirmed by the data.

Overall capitalization rates reflect the relationship between a property's net operating income and sale price or value. As such, cap rates are widely utilized in the real estate industry to both measure a property's performance as well as estimate its value or probable selling price.

Headquartered in Bradenton, Florida, RealtyRates. com, operates a comprehensive, Web-enabled, integrated service designed to provide government agencies and private industry with timely investment, financial, and operating data essential to the evaluation, marketing, and disposition of income-producing property.

The firm's three quarterly market data surveys are widely utilized by banks, commercial real estate professionals, investors, developers, and property tax assessment authorities throughout the country.

Satellite Radio -- A Product That Really Delivers

Satellite Radio -- A Product That Really Delivers

Since the day Howard Stern announced his groundbreaking deal with Sirius Satellite Radio, hundreds of thousands of fans have eagerly signed up for the service. As Stern's 2006 launch nears, millions more are still hesitantly considering a jump to the new medium, but why are so many Stern fans still unsure of satellite radio? Maybe the answer lies in the anti-satellite propaganda campaign devised by "Terrestrial Radio" as it runs for cover.

Albany, NY (PRWEB) December 12, 2005

Since the day Howard Stern announced his groundbreaking deal with Sirius Satellite Radio, hundreds of thousands of fans have eagerly signed up for the service. As Stern's 2006 launch nears, millions more are still hesitantly considering a jump to the new medium, but why are so many Stern fans still unsure of satellite radio? Maybe the answer lies in the anti-satellite propaganda campaign devised by "Terrestrial Radio" as it runs for cover.

According to one entrepreneur (and Howard Stern fan), satellite radio is a product that delivers in a "Big Way." Wayne Perry runs SiCap Industries, a natural health company made famous by their popular sinus and headache remedy known as “Sinus Buster.” As the world's first hot pepper nasal spray (www. sinusbuster. com), Sinus Buster has garnered its' fair share of publicity, but Perry credits Howard Stern with helping his company launch their product into the mainstream marketplace back in 2004. Today Perry is following Stern into the satellite business with a brand new venture.

“Millions of Stern fans want Sirius, but they’re scared by the anti-satellite hype. I thought about buying a satellite receiver for almost a year, but I was afraid to make the purchase. Not because of my faith in the content, but because of the technology itself. Being a Stern fan, I had no problem paying twelve bucks a month for the King Of All Media even if all the other channels sucked, but I was skeptical of the technology thanks to the negative propaganda coming from my local radio stations,” says Perry.

Perry researched various satellite receivers for several months, but was still unsure if the new technology was worth the price.

“I heard the horror stories about bad reception and unreliable equipment, but I finally settled on a receiver. My biggest concern was that it might work fine in my car, but not at my office or visa versa. Especially since we have minimal window space in our building. The last thing I wanted to do was hassle with installing the antenna outside. So I set the antenna on the windowsill and aimed it toward the sky. I activated the account online, and in seconds the service kicked in. I went into the receiver's menu and set the built in wireless FM transmitter to a desired signal (88.1 FM). Then I turned on a radio in the next room, and tuned it to 88.1 FM. Sure enough, it worked flawlessly and I’ve been listening to Sirius ever since. I can pick up the signal on every radio in our building and it sounds way better than the signals we get from most of our local stations,” says Perry.

Although Perry chose Sirius especially for Howard Stern, he admits the programming has something for everyone.

“The first station I turned to was Howard Stern’s channel 100. Even though Howard won’t be on until January, they’re already broadcasting and the content is compelling to say the least. Stern 100 News is a winner and I can’t wait until the man himself is on in January. But there’s a lot more than Stern on Sirius. I was blown away by the variety and quality of the programming. Until you actually listen to satellite radio, you can’t truly experience the depth of the concept. I went from Rap -- to Punk -- to Alternative -- to Canadian Hip Hop - to Comedy -- to Sports -- to Talk -- to a channel that plays nothing but the Rolling Stones 24/7. Within minutes of scanning the universe, I was positive this is the most innovative and promising communications medium since the internet. That’s why we’ve started a new company to promote and protect the business of satellite radio,” adds Perry.

Perry’s company, Intellectual Property Developers (IPD) is creating a new web porthole dedicated to satellite radio. IPD has purchased numerous web domains related to satellite radio including www. satradiozone. com and www. satradiopodcast. com. In late January, the company plans on launching Satradiozone to promote the latest on industry news, programming and equipment. IPD also plans on developing deals with satellite content distributors to feature promotional podcast snippets from select programming.

“It’s all about promotion. Here you have a great service, but because it’s so new, a lot of people are scared to make the jump. And for new subscribers, it’s a big unniverse out there, and listeners are going to need guidance as to what’s on and what’s worth listening to. As the industry grows, the shows and stations will be competing for listeners. If nobody knows a station exists, how can they listen? At Satradiozone people can sample shows, and read the latest about radio celebrities and programming. We’ll also be selling ad space to programmers, retailers and distributors. Ads are limited on satellite radio, but our website will give retailers avenues to reach that audience,” Perry explains.

IPD is also seeking journalists who’d like to write about the business of satellite radio. The company is accepting “solicited” material from freelancers covering every aspect of the industry.

“We’re looking for people to write regular columns about the satellite business. We need writers to critique the channels and content. We need writers to rate equipment and report on satellite news concerning the business and personalities. Most of our contributors are non-paid, but we do pay up to 100 dollars for certain articles. Of course as the industry grows, the compensation will grow too. We also trade out ad space with some contributors as compensation. It’s a chance for aspiring journalists to get in the door of an industry that will be as big as cable television in the near future.. Think of Satradiozone. com as satellite radio’s answer to the TV Guide,” boasts Perry.

To submit articles in synopsis form, and to find out more about business opportunities and sponsorships at Satradiozone. com, email Wayne Perry directly at (wayneperry@sicapindustries. com). Wayne Perry is also available for media interviews through the contact information provided with this release.

Mercy College Enrollment at an All-Time High

Mercy College Enrollment at an All-Time High

Boasts the Largest Class of Full-Time, First-Time Freshman and the Largest Number of Honor Students in Mercy College History

Dobbs Ferry, NY (Vocus) October 4, 2010

As Mercy College celebrates its 60-year anniversary, it is proud to announce that enrollment for the 2010-2011 school year is the highest in the college’s history. Total enrollment has grown to more than 10,000 undergraduate and graduate students. This year’s enrollment also includes Mercy’s highest number of full-time, first-time freshman, as well as the largest number of Honors students, more than doubling last year’s incoming Honors class.

“Mercy College is thrilled to have such a promising student body and is looking forward to what is sure to be a rewarding and successful school year,” said Mercy College President, Kimberly R. Cline. “Our historic enrollment numbers are really the icing on the cake for the fall semester at Mercy, which has gotten off to an overwhelmingly successful start—from move-in day all the way up to campus facility improvements.”

The Mercy College team has been hard at work during the summer months to streamline the move-in process and update campus facilities to accommodate the class of 2014, and ensure a wonderful start to the year. Move-in day was a hit with both parents and students as this year’s procedures were updated to include a special Express Drop-Off feature, allowing many students to drop-off and leave belongings in their rooms early. This helped ease congestion and simplified the move-in process entirely. An informal survey of more than 200 students and parents conducted by Mercy found that, on a scale of 1-10 (10 being the best), the move-in experience received an average rating of 9.16.

Response to renovations on the Dobbs Ferry campus has been just as positive. The cafeteria has been completely renovated and an exciting new addition of a quiet study space in the library has been well received by students and faculty alike. Junior Jaclyn Turturro said, “I really like the quiet area, this is my first time here this semester and I will be coming here a lot because it is a nice and quiet study-area.” Students are also looking forward to enjoying the brand new cafeteria as well as the updated menu.

Executive Dean for Student Services and Leadership, Bill Martinov, who was in charge of the move-in and heads Mercy College’s innovative PACT (Personalized Achievement Contract) Mentor Program, announced that more than 90% of eligible freshmen are participating in PACT. “With the success of fall enrollment, move-in day and PACT participation, the 2010-2011 school year is off to a great start,” said Martinov. The Mercy College PACT Program is a revolutionary mentoring program unique to higher education that pairs incoming freshman with highly qualified, professional mentors to help students navigate through all aspects of the college experience, from financial aid to finding internships, which focuses on academic achievement and career readiness and placement.

IOUSOS™ (<a href="http://www. iousos. com" onclick="linkClick(this. href)">www. iousos. com</a>) Launches Online Consumer Medical Bill Clearinghouse: New Service Set to Help More than 50 Million Americans and Healthcare Providers

IOUSOS™ (www. iousos. com) Launches Online Consumer Medical Bill Clearinghouse: New Service Set to Help More than 50 Million Americans and Healthcare Providers

A revolutionary new online patient medical bill clearinghouse is set to help more than 50 million Americans and healthcare providers tackle the growing problem of unpaid patient medical debt. IOUSOS™, Powered by GlobeFunder and GlobalTech Collection Services, is a Web-based platform that offers hospitals a more cost-efficient way to deal with aged, unpaid patient bills now totaling an estimated $162 billion each year.

Kalamazoo, MI (PRWEB) April 22, 2009

A revolutionary new online patient medical bill clearinghouse is set to help more than 50 million Americans and healthcare providers tackle the growing problem of unpaid patient medical debt. IOUSOS™ (http://www. iousos. com), powered by GlobeFunder (http://www. globefunder. com) and GlobalTech Collection Services, is a Web-based platform that offers hospitals a more cost-efficient way to deal with aged, unpaid patient bills (http://www. globefunder. com) now totaling an estimated $162 billion each year.

The Problem:
"Recent numbers show that up to 50% of current aged self-pay patient balances belong to people who have the financial ability to pay their medical bills," says GlobeFunder (http://www. globefunder. com) CEO and Co-Founder Brian Mullally. However, until now, there hasn't been a cost-effective way to clear up outstanding medical bills with patients and caregivers.

The ongoing economic recession continues to hurt both consumers and providers. The responsibility for healthcare bills continues to shift from insurance companies and the government, directly to consumers, Healthcare providers are challenged by the technology, operations and human capital necessary to improve patient self-pay performance. IOUSOS™ (http://www. iousos. com) as a Solution

"The objective of IOUSOS™ is to encourage consumers to take more control and responsibility for their healthcare bills," says Mullally. "By using IOUSOS™, patients can eliminate the heavy burden of medical debt and rejoin their healthcare provider in good standing."

The online solution offered by IOUSOS™ is ideal because it:
Costs patients nothing. Avoids the hassle and intrusiveness associated with medical billing and collections. Offers healthcare providers a way to recoup outstanding patient bills at a fraction of the cost of most in-house operations and collection agencies. Helps avoid negative media attention that has recently focused on healthcare providers who take a more aggressive approach to collecting delinquent accounts. How IOUSOS™ Works:
IOUSOS'™ web-based platform allows millions of consumers already familiar with using online services like eBay, Amazon and Priceline to save money. With IOUSOS™ they can choose a price they can afford in cooperation with their healthcare provider.

The process is simple:

1. Consumers register on IOUSOS™ to settle their unpaid medical bills with their healthcare provider.

2. The healthcare provider is then notified and offered the opportunity to join the IOUSOS™ network in order to receive immediate patient debt repayments.

3. After a healthcare provider engages IOUSOS™, a list of delinquent patient accounts is sent to IOUSOS™. Advanced analytics on IOUSOS™ help determine the collection and marketing efforts best suited to facilitate the payment of the outstanding medical bills.

4. Patients with medical bills may be eligible to receive a discount and/or payment plan.

Medical Debt Can Make Consumers Sicker!

A recent study challenges the use of aggressive, contentious collection practices in healthcare patient accounts receivable management. Indeed, an AP/AOL Survey conducted in 2008 shows that debt problems are a leading cause of health ailments and delayed medical treatment for Americans:

27% of debtors suffer from severe depression.

Medical debt caused 45% of Americans to delay or avoid healthcare treatments because they could not afford the costs.

"IOUSOS™ is a compassionate, efficient and simple way for patients and health care providers to work together on unpaid medical bills," says Mullally. "This online solution saves money and helps caregivers recover more revenue so they can continue to operate while improving patient and healthcare provider relationships during this time of national crisis."

Asthma: Are You Controlling it, Or is it Controlling You?

Asthma: Are You Controlling it, Or is it Controlling You?

MayoClinic. com offers new asthma control test.

Rochester, MN (PRWEB) November 2, 2007

Asthma is a chronic but treatable condition. In the United States, about 20 million people have been diagnosed with asthma; nearly 9 million of them are children.

Asthma occurs when the main air passages of the lungs, the bronchial tubes, become inflamed. The muscles of the bronchial walls tighten, and cells in the lungs produce extra mucus, further narrowing your airways.

Several types of medications are available for treating and controlling asthma (http://www. mayoclinic. com/health/asthma-treatment/AS00011). Most individuals use a combination of long-term control medications and quick-relief medications.

The new asthma control test (http://www. mayoclinic. com/health/asthma-control-test/AS00031) featured on MayoClinic. com asks six questions to help determine how well an individual's asthma is controlled. The Asthma Center (http://www. mayoclinic. com/health/asthma/AS99999) offers helpful information on managing asthma.

Here are a few questions individuals can ask their physician about asthma control:
-- Do I need to make any changes in my medications?
-- What changes can I make to prevent the occasional flare-up?
-- What can I do to find out what's triggering my symptoms?
-- How can I prevent flare-ups during exercise?
-- Can you help me design an asthma action plan?

Librarian of Congress Appoints W. S. Merwin Poet Laureate

Librarian of Congress Appoints W. S. Merwin Poet Laureate

Librarian of Congress James H. Billington today announced the appointment of W. S. Merwin as the Library’s 17th Poet Laureate Consultant in Poetry for 2010-2011.

Washington, DC (Vocus) July 1, 2010

Librarian of Congress James H. Billington today announced the appointment of W. S. Merwin as the Library’s 17th Poet Laureate Consultant in Poetry for 2010-2011.

Merwin will take up his duties in the fall, opening the Library’s annual literary series on Oct. 25 with a reading of his work.

“William Merwin’s poems are often profound and, at the same time, accessible to a vast audience,” Billington said. “He leads us upstream from the flow of everyday things in life to half-hidden headwaters of wisdom about life itself. In his poem ‘Heartland,’ Merwin seems to suggest that a land of the heart within us might help map the heartland beyond—and that this ‘map’ might be rediscovered in something like a library, where ‘it survived beyond/ what could be known at the time/ in its archaic/ untaught language/ that brings the bees to the rosemary.’”

William Stanley Merwin succeeds Kay Ryan as Poet Laureate and joins a long line of distinguished poets who have served in the position, including Charles Simic, Donald Hall, Ted Kooser, Louise Glück, Billy Collins, Stanley Kunitz, Robert Pinsky, Robert Hass, Rita Dove and Richard Wilbur.

During a 60-year writing career, Merwin has received nearly every major literary award. He is a two-time winner of the Pulitzer Prize, just recently in 2009 for “The Shadow of Sirius” and in 1971 for “The Carrier of Ladders.” In 2006, he won the Rebekah Johnson Bobbitt Prize from the Library of Congress for “Present Company.” His retrospective collection “Migration: New and Selected Poems” won the 2005 National Book Award for poetry.

Born in 1927, Merwin showed an early interest in language and music, writing hymns for his father, a Presbyterian minister. He studied poetry at Princeton and, in 1952, his first book, “A Mask for Janus,” was selected by W. H. Auden for the Yale Series of Younger Poets Award.

The author of more than 30 books of poetry and prose, Merwin’s influence on American poetry is profound. Often noted by critics is his decision, in the 1960s, to relinquish the use of punctuation. “I had come to feel that punctuation stapled the poems to the page,” Merwin wrote in his introduction to “The Second Four Books of Poems.” “Whereas I wanted the poems to evoke the spoken language, and wanted the hearing of them to be essential to taking them in.”

Merwin also has been long dedicated to translating poetry and plays from a wide array of languages, including Spanish and French. “I started translating partly as a discipline, hoping that the process might help me to learn to write.”

In 1976, Merwin moved to Hawaii, where he and his wife Paula have fashioned a quiet life in beautiful, natural surroundings. An avid gardener, he has raised endangered palm trees on land that used to be a pineapple plantation.

“Although his poems often deal with simple everyday things, there is a nourishing quality about them that makes readers want more, “said Patricia Gray, head of the Library’s Poetry and Literature Center. “Like William Wordsworth, he is passionately interested in the natural world.”

From 1999 to 2000, while Robert Pinsky served as Poet Laureate, Merwin along with Rita Dove and Louise Glück were named as Special Bicentennial Consultants in Poetry to help celebrate the Library’s bicentennial.

Merwin’s many honors also include the Bollingen Prize in Poetry, the Tanning Prize for Poetry, the Ruth Lilly Poetry Prize, the Wallace Stevens Award, the PEN Translation Prize, the Aiken Taylor Award for Modern American Poetry, and the Governor’s Award for Literature of the State of Hawaii. He has received a Ford Foundation grant and fellowships from the Academy of American Poets, the Guggenheim Foundation, the National Endowment for the Arts and the Rockefeller Foundation. Merwin is a former chancellor of the Academy of American Poets.

For more information on Merwin, including downloadable photos, visit http://www. loc. gov/pressroom/login (http://www. loc. gov/pressroom/login). (New visitors to the site will need to establish an account to receive the username and password.)

Background of the Laureateship
The Poet Laureate is selected for a one-year term by the Librarian of Congress. The choice is based on poetic merit alone and has included a wide variety of poetic styles.
The Library keeps to a minimum the specific duties required of the Poet Laureate, who opens the literary season in October and closes it in May. Laureates, in recent years, have initiated poetry projects that broaden the audiences for poetry.

Kay Ryan launched “Poetry for the Mind’s Joy” in 2009-2010, a project that focused on the poetry being written by community-college students. The project included visits to various community colleges and a poetry contest on the campuses. For more information, visit www. loc. gov/poetry/mindsjoy/ (http://www. loc. gov/poetry/mindsjoy/).
Earlier, Rita Dove brought a program of poetry and jazz to the Library’s literary series, along with a reading by young Crow Indian poets and a two-day conference titled “Oil on the Waters: The Black Diaspora,” featuring panel discussions, readings and music. Robert Hass sponsored a major conference on nature writing called “Watershed,” which continues today as a national poetry competition for elementary - and high-school students, titled “River of Words.” Robert Pinsky initiated his Favorite Poem Project, which energized a nation of poetry readers to share their favorite poems in readings across the country and in audio and video recordings. Billy Collins instituted the website Poetry180, www. loc. gov/poetry/180 (http://www. loc. gov/poetry/180), which brought a poem a day into every high-school classroom in all parts of the country via the central announcement system.

More recently, Ted Kooser created a free weekly newspaper column, at www. americanlifeinpoetry. org, that features a brief poem by a contemporary American poet and an introduction to the poem by Kooser. Donald Hall participated in the first-ever joint poetry readings of the U. S. Poet Laureate and British Poet Laureate Andrew Motion in a program called “Poetry Across the Atlantic,” also sponsored by the Poetry Foundation. Charles Simic provided tips on writing at www. loc. gov/poetry (http://www. loc. gov/poetry) and taught a master class for accomplished poets at the Library of Congress.

The Library of Congress’ Poetry and Literature Center is the home of the Poet Laureate Consultant in Poetry, a position that has existed since 1936, when Archer M. Huntington endowed the Chair of Poetry at the Library. Since then, many of the nation’s most eminent poets have served as Consultant in Poetry to the Library of Congress and, after the passage of Public Law 99-194 (Dec. 20, 1985), as Poet Laureate Consultant in Poetry. The Poet Laureate suggests authors to read in the literary series and plans other special events during the literary season.

Denver, CO (PRWEB) August 8, 2008

Ask An Ally, Inc. announces a new, free advice service to deal with a wide variety of life's challenges. Dr. Jane, the site's psychologist, will answer questions while the user enjoys the peaceful and fun waiting room, filled with music, games, links to other sites and a place to create art. AskAnAlly. com creates a place where professional psychological/coaching advice is free and accessible while cyberspace becomes warm and inviting. The user can easily find help and support without leaving home or feeling the disconnect that can happen in virtual space.

AskAnAlly. com offers dependable, sound advice and thoughtful, professional reflection on the challenges of life. Enter the quietly furnished waiting room and the serene office. A click on the couch, in the second room, provides a space to ask a question. Dr. Jane will respond. A click on the bookshelves will give the user an addictive insight into what others are asking. Games, music and art are found in a click. If a person wishes for a longer conversation with Dr. Jane, that too, is only a click away.

AskAnAlly. com, a versatile psychological/coaching service, embraces the idea that, from time to time, in our complicated world, everyone has questions about life. The site opens into Dr. Jane's warmly furnished cyberspace office and presents choices of posting a question, reading other posts and responses or just hanging out while listening to music and playing games. Getting answers from Dr. Jane is easy and clients/users completely determine the level, length and depth of interaction. Clients structure the encounter in a way that suits them and their questions best. This ranges from a simple, one-time exchange to a more personal, ongoing relationship. Here one finds a safe place to air concerns, relax, connect to a community and get support.

Dr. Jane fields any type of question. These might cover such themes as family, relationships, parenting, anger management, depression, work issues, sexuality and sexual identity, and life transitions. For example, a reader recently wrote, "I'm a member of a working group that is divided into two teams and we meet as cordial adversaries. Whenever a particular topic comes up, I get triggered and snap at the person on the other side of the table who set me off. I hate doing that but can't control it. Suggestions? Thanks!"

Dr Jane is a licensed, clinical psychologist who has been working in the field for over 25 years. She has worked in a wide range of settings, including her private practice, community mental health, schools, non-profits, corporations and in the arts. She has developed and implemented treatment plans, run group homes, supervised staff and students, and led groups and workshops. Dr. Jane has a long-standing private practice where she sees individuals and couples.

Included in her new project, Dr. Jane has created a line of AskAnAlly products, complete with Tips For A Good Time™ and Tips For A Good Life™, that are in development and limited release in Denver, CO and Falmouth, MA. Coast to Coast Moms on a Misson Fight Together to End Brain Tumors

Coast to Coast Moms on a Misson Fight Together to End Brain Tumors

Two moms, from opposite ends of the country, who have yet to meet, are answering the call to action against brain tumors, with an astounding "yes".

Ashburn, VA (PRWEB) October 24, 2009

In light of President Obama's national call to volunteer, companies and organizations around the country are encouraging community service. The Entertainment Industry Foundation, for example, has launched its new "iParticipate" campaign to inspire a new era of volunteerism, and other notable companies such as Disney, with their "Give a Day, Get a Disney Day" program, are set out to make service a part of everyday life. But with a weak economy and everyone fending for themselves, will these valiant campaigns mobilize a nation? Will individuals be compelled to take action and work together in these tough times? Two moms, working together in the name of hope who have yet to meet in person, have said "yes".

Lisa Millar of Ashburn, VA and Melissa Culp of Tustin, CA are moms on a mission. With five children between them (ranging in age from 5 months to 11 years of age), and from opposites ends of the country, these two women have united around the cause of fighting brain cancer. In between being wife and mom, cooking, cleaning and shuttling children from place to place, both women spend much of their free time finding ways to help raise awareness and money for cancer and brain tumor research. Millar and Culp met through the Heroes of Hope Grey Ribbon Crusade (www. greyribboncrusade. org), established to unite individuals and non-profit organizations in the brain cancer community. Together they are spearheading the Grey Ribbon Crusade's Heroes of Hope Race for Research. This year's race, sponsored by the Style Network, is a 5K/10K and Kid's Fun Run taking place Sunday, November 8th at Dockweiler State Beach in Los Angeles, CA.

According to the National Cancer Institute and American Brain Tumor Association statistics, brain tumors are the leading cause of solid tumor death in children and the second leading cause of cancer death in men under the age of thirty-nine. Proceeds from the Race for Research will directly fund pediatric and adult brain tumor research being done by Dr. Linda Liau's team at UCLA's Department of Neurosurgery, and Dr. Jonathan Finlay's team at Children's Hospital Los Angeles.

Millar founded the Brad Kaminsky Foundation for Brain Tumor Research (tbkf. org), named for her brother who died from brain cancer before his 30th birthday. On what compels her to volunteer her time, Millar says, "It is quite challenging trying to work out details of the event with a three hour time difference while coordinating the schedules of two busy moms who also both hold part time paying jobs. However, the end result stays clearly imprinted in our minds as we know we are contributing to a much bigger picture that will ultimately help others and end a horrific disease. I also hope to instill the need for volunteering and providing service to others in my children." Culp is the President of Kaleidoscope Event Services and Chief Marketing Officer for the CEVAN Louie Foundation (www. cevanlouiefoundation. com), founded in memory of the late Cheryl Fernandez Louie, who lost her 18-month battle with brain cancer last year after having been diagnosed with stage IV brain cancer at seven months pregnant. "I have always been taught that the most precious gift you can give someone is your time. Everyone has a busy schedule these days, so we have to carefully choose how we spend our time. I choose to spend my time with my husband and children, family and friends, and by making a difference. No matter how hard your day is, there is always someone, somewhere, having one worse. So if there is something that I can do to make someone's life better, it's just the right thing to do. If we can find a cure for one cancer, we are one step closer to finding a cure for all cancer, and that's what motivates me." Culp says. Millar and Culp prove that providing service to others and contributing to our nation's health is worthy, necessary, and also possible.

To volunteer to support the Heroes of Hope Race for Research on November 8th, or for more information, call 1-866-48-CURE. To sign up to participate in the race, please go to www. active. com and enter "Heroes of Hope" in the search field.

New Online Job Board Offers Generous Referral Rewards and "Pay for Results" Job Posting

New Online Job Board Offers Generous Referral Rewards and "Pay for Results" Job Posting

Innovative new online jobsite, www. ReferTalent. com, offers thousands of dollars in rewards to jobseekers and website visitors for successful candidate referrals. Employers and recruiters pay ONLY if Refer Talent is able to secure a candidate that is placed in one of their job opportunities. Confidentiality is maintained by offering anonymous jobseeker profiles and job descriptions. Jobseekers can even refer themselves and receive a generous bonus upon placement.

Portage, Michigan (PRWEB) August 23, 2004 -

The popularity of online job boards and the success of using networking to land a new job has prompted the next stage in the evolution of job placement - a new jobsite called ReferTalent. com.

It is well known that many, if not most jobseekers find their new opportunity through someone they know. In "The Executive Career Guide for MBA's" (John Wiley & Sons, 1995), Beatty and Burkholder cite research completed in 1990 that included more than 10,000 executive, managerial and professional job seekers. According to this study, 68% secured their jobs through personal contact (networking). Since then, the Internet has risen to play a pivotal role in job searching. Now ReferTalent. com takes the advantages of both and combines them into an opportunity to find a new job and make money at the same time.

Like many job boards, the ReferTalent. com site offers jobseekers the opportunity to search jobs in all fields and industries – IT, Engineering, Medical, Finance, Sales, Healthcare and more. They can search by keywords, categories, and geographic preferences.

ReferTalent. com has some significant advantages, however. The biggest advantage is that candidates and their friends have the opportunity to get paid if they refer someone who is eventually placed in one of their positions. Next to each job posting rewards are listed that range from one to four thousand dollars apiece. Money is paid after a referral is successfully hired and there are no limits. Candidates can even refer themselves, which translates to a bonus of one to four thousand dollars when they land their next job.

“Employees and their friends are constantly being pressed by recruiters for referrals, some of which have resulted in successful placements and big bonuses for the recruiter.” says Donna Mathias, the creator of ReferTalent. com. “The referrers might get a hearty thank you from the recruiter, but that is usually it. It only makes sense to thank them in a concrete way. By rewarding referrers, I am in a sense establishing a world-wide recruitment team. After someone receives a check for between $1000 and $4000 dollars, it only increases the chance that they will remember us when they or someone they know is in the job market.”

The advantage for Employers and Recruiters is that they can post their job opportunities for free – paying for advertising and recruitment costs only when a candidate is actually hired. Like contingency recruiting, itÂ’s a no-risk situation for them. The referral rewards offered to website visitors are paid out of ReferTalent. comÂ’s own pocket.

In addition, ReferTalent. com lists candidate profiles. Hiring agents can freely search through Candidates by keywords, categories, and geographic preferences. Employers, Recruiters, and Referrers keep track of their recruitment activity by logging into their accounts. Jobseekers and Referrers can post their anonymous Candidate Profiles for free whether they currently see a matching job or not. When a match is made, they receive the reward.

Confidentiality for jobseekers and hiring agents is no problem. ReferTalent. com personally connects the two parties without revealing contact information to the hiring employers and lets the jobseeker privately review the opportunities presented. ReferTalent. com also personally screens all candidates before presenting them to Employers and Recruiters to be certain they meet all of their requirements, saving them the trouble of weeding through stacks of unqualified resumes.

It’s the human touch added to the high technology that makes ReferTalent. com an attractive website for all – Jobseekers, Referrers, Employers, and Recruiters. “Involving everyone in the recruiting process by offering referral rewards strengthens the candidate pool that we can offer employers and recruiters. The thousands of dollars of referral rewards offered to website visitors are well worth their time.”

About the Creator of ReferTalent. com

Donna Mathias is the owner and creator of www. ReferTalent. com She has been a physician recruiter and owner of Mathias Medical Search since 1997. She is also the owner of www. MDjobsearch. com focused exclusively on physician jobs located throughout the United States. She received her initial recruitment training through Recruiter's Professional Network. Joint effort promotes effective use of active RFID solutions to streamline IT Asset Management.

Tampa, FL (PRWEB) August 26, 2008

Animus Solutions, a vendor-neutral provider of IT asset management and service management consulting, and RF Code, a leader in automating physical asset tracking, announced an alliance that will help organizations incorporate the use of active RFID extensively into a broad range of IT asset processes. These processes include asset identification and tracking for instant inventory and audit.

Active RFID is a widely used technology providing instantaneous inventory access to all physical assets that are managed. RF Code's customers and partners use its active RFID-based solutions in a variety of applications, including IT asset tracking, real-time inventory, tracking/ordering, inventory audits, personnel tracking and security and across major industries such as healthcare, retail, and manufacturing.

"The use of active RFID technology has barely cracked the surface for IT asset business processes," stated Walter Darrough, Vice President of Sales and Business Development for Animus Solutions. "Through this alliance with RF Code, we will use our expertise to help RF Code customers and partners realize the additional value from their investment in the technology by expanding usage into service management and best practices for IT asset management."

Full Figured Women - More Then Meets The Eye

Full Figured Women - More Then Meets The Eye

Due to a fashion industry and Hollywood standards the bar of being considered full figured is getting lower and lower. Majority of full figured women are healthy, vibrant, sexy and tired of being told how to look.

Oliver, BC (PRWEB) December 3, 2005

Above average, you bet. There is absolutely nothing average about full figured women.

Today, the average woman is size 14 and considered full figured. Every day we are slammed with images of pale, ribs showing movie stars and supermodels.

They try to tell us that skinny is beautiful, sexy and desirable. Boy, are they wrong. Ask an average man and he’ll tell you that he prefers his woman with curves and substance.

Have you ever noticed how many of these super skinny women are actually smiling. I mean real smiles that come from within not that fake “I’m so happy because I’m skinny” smile.

The truth is skinny is not beautiful nor sexy – healthy and confident is beautiful and sexy.

The other day I noticed in one of the many Tabloid magazines picture of Beyonce. She looked absolutely ravishing, healthy and truly happy. Underneath the picture was a tiny article in which she was called Full Figured. Image that, Beyonce is full figured. So if she’s considered full figured what that makes us, women over size 16?

It makes us above average and we’re proud of it. Let’s look at the actual meaning for ABOVE AVERAGE – “in a higher place”, “on top of” or my personal favorite “better or more than”.

Yes, we are not average, we are healthier and happier. We have better self-esteem, we are more giving, nurturing and loving and we are tired of some people feeling sorry for us.

Don’t underestimate us, we just have it all. Best of all, we know how to have fun and how to laugh aloud. When we go to a restaurant we don’t have to split a salad, we will order what we want and when we want it. And guess what? We don’t even feel guilty afterwards.

We’ve been prosecuted by the fashion industry for way too long. I’m happy to report that more and more designers and manufacturers are realizing that we’re here, we’re beautiful and we’re tired to dress like bag ladies.

Few years ago, there was almost no selection of clothing for full figured women. And if there was something available we were penalized by paying more. Really, how much more fabric and work it took for the manufacturer to make clothing articles a little bit larger. They knew that we’re desperate and that we’ll pay more just to have some selection and color in our closets.

It makes me sad that some designers and manufacturers still try to make bigger profits on us above average women. Times are changing and the clothing selection and fair prices are available for all women equally.

Above average woman has a lot of choices these days. If we’re looking for a cute top, designer pair of jeans or a beautiful and sexy lingerie it’s there for us. We don’t have to feel like a Cinderella before the ball anymore. We can feel sexy and in charge with all the beautiful lacy lingerie and corsets made just for us.

And the best part is that with our busy lifestyles all this beautiful and fashionable clothing is just a click away. The cyber space is filled with great online stores with high quality above average clothing and lingerie.

One of them offering beautiful plus size lingerie, corsets, dresses and active wear is Full Figured Fashion. So next time you’re browsing around type in www. fullfiguredfashion. com and see what’s new and what’s hot.

Dr. Jeffrey Klein Announces the Launch of KleinLipo. com

Dr. Jeffrey Klein, the inventory of the tumescent liposuction technique, is proud to announce the launch of his new website, KleinLipo. com. The website, which launched this spring, offers in depth information about Dr. Jeffrey Klein and Klein Liposuction.

Newport Beach, CA (PRWEB) May 25, 2010

Dr. Jeffrey Klein, the inventory of the tumescent liposuction technique, is proud to announce the launch of his new website, KleinLipo. com. The website, which launched this spring, offers in depth information about Dr. Jeffrey Klein and Klein Liposuction. Found on the web at www. KleinLipo. com, the site offers information about Dr. Klein’s southern California practice as well as educational materials for patients on the safest and most established liposuction technique available, tumescent liposuction (http://kleinlipo. com/).

“As the inventor of tumescent liposuction and as a practicing cosmetic surgeon who has completed thousands of successful tumescent liposuction treatments, Dr. Klein has a unique perspective on the technique and the industry as a whole,” explained Dawn Neff, Patient Coordinator and General Manager. “Our goal with KleinLipo. com is twofold. We want to help prospective patients to find Dr. Klein and we want anyone interested in KleinLipo to understand the procedure and be able to successfully compare the procedure with others that are currently available.”

Dr. Klein introduced KleinLipo (http://kleinlipo. com/), now widely known as the tumescent liposuction technique to the world in 1986 and subsequently published his findings in the Journal of the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery in 1987. This groundbreaking procedure has been adopted worldwide and is well known for improving patient safety and comfort, as well as helping cosmetic surgeons to provide optimal results for patients.

“There has been a lot of press recently about alternate methods of liposuction, including ultrasonic liposuction, water jet assisted liposuction and laser liposuction. Dr. Klein has experience with all of these techniques, and in fact, many of these alternate liposuction technologies use his tumescent anesthetic technique,” explained Neff. “Our goal with the website is to identify the difference between KleinLipo and other methods. The outstanding safety record and established track record of KleinLipo, and Dr. Klein’s amazing patient results should help people to understand how safe and effective this method truly is.”

About Dr. Jeffrey Klein

Dr. Jeffrey Klein is a dermatologic surgeon practicing in Newport Beach and San Juan Capistrano in Orange County, California. In addition to board certification by the American Boards of Dermatology, Internal Medicine, and Cosmetic Surgery, Dr. Klein has completed a National Institute of Health Research Fellowship in Clinical Pharmacology, as well as advanced degrees in mathematics and biostatistics. Dr. Klein is the preeminent Newport Beach Liposuction (http://kleinlipo. com/) doctors. Dr. Klein has taught tumescent liposuction to more than 800 surgeons worldwide and continues to be active in research and teaching at the University of California, Irvine and Riverside campuses. Dr. Klein is married to Dr. Kathleen Hutton-Klein, who is also a Dermatologist in Newport Beach, California.

First Responder: The 2Life18 Foundation, Supported By A Better Community For All, Brings Humanitarian Relief To The World

"First Responder," David Perez and the 2Life18 Foundation, together with the support of A Better Community For All (ABC4All) embark on global humanitarian relief. Improved water and alternative energy technologies are being harnessed to effect solutions throughout the world, creating "2006: The Year of Relief."

San Diego, CA (PRWEB) December 30, 2005

"First Responder," David Perez and the 2Life18 Foundation, together with the support of A Better Community For All (ABC4All) embark on global humanitarian relief. Improved water and alternative energy technologies are being harnessed to effect solutions throughout the world, creating "2006: The Year of Relief."

Recently A&E Network recognized David Perez as one of the Biographies of the Year 2005 (December 16, 2005).

David Perez' Mission as First Responder, however, has not rested on the laurels of the dramatic, important and dynamic achievements to date following the Hurricanes. Already the needs of evacuees being evicted are being addressed by seeking to raise additional support. Further, the effort by Mr. Perez to counter the looming threat of potential pandemics such as the Avian Flu dictates that the 2Life18 Foundation seek cooperative support worldwide.

To this end, A Better Community For All (ABC4All) has pledged combined, maximized, support for the 2Life18 Foundation via the ABC4All Bridge of Relief (ABC4AllBOR)™ Global Humanitarian Relief Task Force: http://ABC4All. net/why. htm (http://ABC4All. net/why. htm) With proper cooperation on a global scale, the possibility exists for a monumental contribution to societies across the world by the ABC4AllBOR™ participants.

We do not have to wait for natural disasters to occur to know that there are constant crises that need to be addressed on a global scale, as referenced by the Population Reference Bureau. The following are examples of major issues plaguing our planet which mandate immediate action:

More than one-half of the world's people live below the internationally defined poverty line of less than U. S. $2 a day-including 97 percent in Uganda, 80 percent in Nicaragua, 66 percent in Pakistan, and 47 percent in China, according to data from the World Bank.

SOLUTION: By diverting monies NOT needed for chemicals for disinfection/sterilization purposes (and other applications) with scientifically developed 2.5 pH Plasma Activated Water (PAW) http://hydroent. com (http://hydroent. com), including chlorine for swimming pools, these untold millions/billions of dollars can be diverted to humanitarian relief by the combined effort of the 2Life18 Foundation and the Foundation of A Better Community For All (FABC), a National Heritage Foundation.

Nearly one-third of rural residents worldwide lack access to safe drinking water.

SOLUTION: By making 9.5 pH Plasma Activated Water (PAW) available, not only is bottled water possible, but plasma reactors can be created/delivered to turn any source of polluted water into potable, drinking water that helps Improve Health Maintenance (IHM) in situ (100,000 gals/hr).

Africa's infant mortality rate is nearly 15 times that of the developed world.

SOLUTION: With Improving Health Maintenance (IHM), hopefully a significant dent can be made in the problem of high infant mortality rates. 11.0 pH water can be used in small quantities (by the drop) by health professionals with their clients/patients, enhancing the 9.5 pH drinking water. Such a higher pH level water in the body is consonant with providing and ensuring the physical body is placed into balance, thereby creating conditions at the cellular level for improved health maintenance.

TO START: Better Water, Better World (BW2)™

For some time now, waters have been available that Improve Health Maintenance (IHM): http://ABC4All. net/bwbw. htm (http://ABC4All. net/bwbw. htm). The validity data demonstrate that certain of these healthy waters eliminate bacteria and viruses and thus hold great potential for assisting with improving living conditions for humans, plants and animals. With such scientific proof already documented, a research protocol is being developed to study the clinical benefits of these waters when consumed by humans.

In good conscience, those aware of this unique, unheard of possibility for global humanitarian relief can act expeditiously to facilitate What The World Needs Now: Here is a chance for a small group of people to enlist the cooperation of supporters all over the globe who can help make the world, truly, a better place for all.

Initiative to Support Validation of Nonprofits Gains Momentum

Initiative to Support Validation of Nonprofits Gains Momentum

Charities Aid Foundation and eGrants. org join a growing list of organizations in support of DotOrg FoundationÂ’s validation concepts

(PRWEB) August 18, 2002

Washington, D. C. – August 16, 2002 – The DotOrg Foundation, one of 11 applicants in the ICANN process to select a. org domain registry manager, has added Charities Aid Foundation (CAF) and eGrants. org as supporters for its validation concepts. CAF, a British-based charity with more than 75 years of experience and a global network spanning five continents, is committed to increasing the resources of charities worldwide while helping individual and corporate donors maximize their generosity. eGrants. org is a nonprofit organization created by the Tides Foundation in San Francisco to help nonprofit groups use the Internet effectively to increase resources for positive social change and environmental sustainability.

In its bid to operate the. org registry, the DotOrg Foundation has proposed to facilitate the validation of non-commercial organizations around the world. Marshall Strauss, president of the DotOrg Foundation, welcomed letters from these and other organizations, which can be viewed at www. dotorgfoundation. org under “What’s New.”

Strauss noted, “We are delighted that CAF and eGrants. org have joined a growing list of nonprofit community leaders who have endorsed the validation concepts we submitted to ICANN. Civil rights groups, faith-based organizations, charitable foundations and many other organizations increasingly use the web to reach out to donors and volunteers. More and more, the public – often called upon for financial and volunteer support – is looking for confirmation of the claims they are seeing on those websites.” Strauss added, “We believe that the creative use of the Internet can help provide that confirmation.”

The DotOrg Foundation has proposed to introduce web-based technology that will link nonprofit and noncommercial entities seeking validation with those offering such services. The following organizations have expressed support for the validation concepts offered by the Foundation:

§ Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP), representing 25,000 members across North America and around the world

§ ePhilanthropy Foundation, which seeks to foster the ethical use of the Internet for philanthropic purposes

§ Independent Sector, a national leadership forum to encourage philanthropy, volunteering, not-for-profit initiative and citizen action

§ GuideStar, with a national database of over 850,000 IRS-recognized nonprofit organizations

§ Charity Navigator, a leading U. S. validator providing information on more than eleven hundred charities and evaluating the financial health of each

§ CanadaHelps, a nonprofit organization designed to facilitate the transfer of technology to CanadaÂ’s 78,000+ charities

§ World Reach (the Charity Giving Station), whose mission is to help companies help the world through corporate philanthropy initiatives

§ Habitat for Humanity Canada, an independent, charitable, faith-based housing program.

The Foundation also notes the support expressed by Edward E. David, Jr., Science Advisor to U. S. President Nixon and Director of the White House Office of Science and Technology.

About DotOrg Foundation

The DotOrg Foundation is a nonprofit organization founded with the sole purpose of administering the. org top-level domain (TLD) registry for The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers, known as ICANN. The value of the DotOrg Foundation’s specific and directed purpose is that it focuses all of the Foundation’s resources on developing the. org TLD into a more reliable, trusted, productive and distinctive space on the Internet. The DotOrg Foundation is joined in its ICANN proposal by two partners with established reputations in the Internet and nonprofit sectors – Registry Advantage, a division of Register. com Inc. (NASDAQ: RCOM), as its registry function provider; and Kintera, to provide technical development and maintenance for planned additional products and services. Concordia University Chicago, The College of Microscopy Partner for in-Demand Degree Program in Microscopy, one of Nation's First

Concordia University Chicago, The College of Microscopy Partner for in-Demand Degree Program in Microscopy, one of Nation's First

Westmont, IL (PRWEB) February 13, 2009

Chicago and Westmont, Ill. (PRWEB) Feb. 13, 2009―Preparing future scientists in fields from art history to pharmaceuticals, Concordia University Chicago (http://www. cuchicago. edu/) is enrolling students for Fall 2009 in a new Applied Microscopy program in partnership with the internationally renowned College of Microscopy (http://www. collegeofmicroscopy. com/), the education division of The McCrone Group (http://www. mccrone. com/), Westmont, Illinois.

The Concordia/College of Microscopy Applied Microscopy program is among the first dedicated Bachelor of Science microscopy programs in the nation, and the first to combine the resources of a comprehensive liberal arts university and an international leader in microscopy.

Applied microscopy encompasses the use of light microscopy, electron microscopy, infrared and Raman spectroscopy, sample preparation and small-particle handling to solve problems and analyze or build materials on a nearly sub-atomic scale.

Technological advances across all disciplines have increased the need for applied microscopy for virtually all industries that rely on small particle identification and analysis: environmental and ecological sciences, materials engineering, forensic science, homeland security, public health and safety, art and archaeology, chemical and contamination identification, nanotechnology, manufacturing and many others.

"Traditionally, employers seeking microscopists hire candidates with Bachelor of Science degrees in chemistry, physics or another natural science," said Anita Briedis-Bilsens, Ph. D., chair of the Department of Natural Sciences at Concordia. "In the coming years, graduates with a Bachelor of Science specifically in applied microscopy will have an edge in securing those positions."

"It is among the highest-demand degrees out there," said Michael Whiteside, Ph. D., Concordia assistant professor of molecular biology who helped develop the program. "If you are studying the sciences, microscopy is one of the best degrees to ensure work right out of school, whether it is at a crime lab or in any number of high-tech fields."

"The Concordia/College of Microscopy partnership will enable microscopy students to learn much more than they ever could in a traditional college program," College of Microscopy Dean, Chuck Zona said.

"Learning in an actual laboratory environment at the College of Microscopy will enable students to develop sophisticated skill sets to complement their Concordia classroom experiences. Being a team member with scientists working at the forefront in solving materials problems allows the student to hit the ground running when they start their career," said Zona.

Applied Microscopy majors at Concordia will complete three years of required courses in general, organic and analytical chemistry; biology; forensic science; instrumental analysis; calculus and physics. The rigorous coursework will prepare them for their final two semesters taking classes with world-class scientists and microscopy educators at the College of Microscopy in Westmont, Illinois.

Internationally known for its state-of-the-art laboratories and work in small-particle identification and analysis, the College of Microscopy provides highly specialized training for scientists, crime lab personnel, researchers, educators and technicians from around the world.

At the College's new 40,000-square-foot learning center, Concordia students will take highly specialized microscopy coursework in infrared, Raman, polarized light, scanning electron and transmission electron microscopy. Courses also cover particle isolation and manipulation, and optical crystallography techniques.

Students will use the latest microscopy technology and instrumentation. They will interact with scientists with years of cutting edge industry experience, some of whom have analyzed the authenticity of the "Gospel of Judas" and world-famous works of art; solved technical material issues with NASA astronaut space suits; examined whether particles from artificial hip implants impact organ functions when the implant loosens or corrodes; and, much more.

In addition to the Applied Microscopy Bachelor of Science degree, Concordia and the College of Microscopy also offer a microscopy minor. The minor is designed to prepare students in other fields for jobs in fast-growing but highly specialized scientific sectors. For example, a business management degree and microscopy minor prepares a graduate for administrative, business and marketing positions in science-based government agencies or the private sector.

For more information, contact Concordia's Office of Undergraduate Admission at 877-CUChicago (877-282-4422).

About the College of Microscopy
The College of Microscopy, the education division of The McCrone Group, Inc., provides accredited training and education to scientists and students worldwide. Ensuring specialized education from experienced staff scientists from McCrone Associates, The McCrone Group's analytical division and hands-on training using state-of-the-art microanalytical instrumentation, The College of Microscopy is dedicated to advancing knowledge and understanding of light and electron microscopy for materials analysis.

Completed in 2006, the College of Microscopy's 40,000-square foot learning center in Westmont, Ill., offers state-of-the-art microscopes and analytical equipment, modern classrooms and labs, and many other amenities.
