Pittsburgh, PA (PRWEB) November 11, 2007

Stoltenberg Consulting, Inc. sponsored a focus group at the CHIME 2007 Fall CIO Forum held in San Antonio, TX in early October. The company's session, entitled, "Simplifying Solutions by Streamlining Processes," focused on exploring ways that vendors and consulting firms can streamline their processes to save time and money for busy CIOs and their departments.

Stoltenberg's moderators, Sheri Stoltenberg and Christy Rollyson, gave an opening presentation that covered the rapidly changing IT marketplace and discussed the difficulties of meeting strategic goals in an environment that includes aggressive timelines, small budgets and limited resources.

"Our goal was to engage experienced healthcare CIOs with the purpose of gaining insights that would help us evolve as a company and be better prepared to meet the ever-changing needs of busy CIOs," explained Sheri Stoltenberg, CEO of Stoltenberg Consulting. "I was very pleased with our focus group's discussions and the feedback we received from the 12 CIOs who represented a broad cross section of the entire U. S."

"I truly believe we were able to discover the 'pain points' of the CIOs in our group," added Christy Rollyson, Regional Director of Business Development with Stoltenberg. "Our mission has always been to provide strategic, comprehensive, tailor-made guidance and on-site support to maximize a healthcare facility's information technology systems by applying application and process redesign expertise. The company's focus has always been on our client's needs and goals to maximize productivity, increase revenue and improve patient care. I am certain the insights we gained will continue to help us fulfill our mission."

Semotus Solutions and Global Beverage Group Enter into Joint Venture

Semotus Solutions and Global Beverage Group Enter into Joint Venture

Direct Store Delivery Consortium Invests Capital in Semotus Subsidiary

(PRWEB) January 26, 2002

SAN JOSE, Calif.--Jan. 23, 2002--Semotus Solutions, the Wireless Architects(TM) (AMEX:DLK), a leading provider of mobile enterprise applications, announced today that Application Design Associates (ADA), Semotus' mobile field force automation subsidiary, has completed a partnership agreement with Global Beverage Group, a Canadian-based Direct Store Delivery (DSD) Consortium. The closing, subject to customary conditions, is expected by the end of January.

Global Beverage Group will invest $250,000 up-front, assume approximately $400,000 in liabilities, and invest an additional $1 million in ADA during the next 15 months in exchange for a 49% interest in ADA. Global Beverage Group will have an option to purchase the remaining 51% of ADA at a future date for $2.5 million or the return to Semotus of the common stock that it issued in connection with its original acquisition of ADA. As part of the transaction, the Global Beverage Group received 5-year warrants exercisable into 150,000 shares of Semotus common stock.

Semotus acquired Application Design Associates in July of 2001. ADA's Vending Maintenance Management System (VMMS) and Auto Tech Link (ATL) mobile field service hand-held application are the leading asset tracking and field service software solutions in the bottling industry. Global Beverage Group provides a complete suite of software solutions for the beverage industry. Its large field service customer base is a target market for Semotus' mobile messaging software, HipLinkXS.

``We are pleased to enter into this joint venture with Global Beverage Group,'' said Anthony N. LaPine, Semotus Solutions CEO. ``It gives Semotus an immediate inflow of cash and aligns us with one of the most innovative software companies in the DSD beverage space. In addition, it gives Semotus' flagship wireless messaging product, HipLinkXS, access to a lucrative field force automation customer base.''

``This partnership with Application Design Associates adds three critical products to our beverage software suite -- vending and equipment maintenance software, mobile field service hand-held application, and fleet maintenance management software,'' stated Ted Hastings, Global Beverage Group CEO. ``Another benefit of this partnership is the opportunity to offer Semotus Solutions' wireless mobile applications, like HipLinkXS, to the Global Beverage Group customer base of over 150 beverage distribution companies.''

Simplicity: Kabana Skin Care's Approach to Natural Skin Care

Simplicity: Kabana Skin Care's Approach to Natural Skin Care

Navigating the "Natural" Marketplace - Kabana Skin Care makes it easy with elegant products composed of simple to understand natural and organic ingredients. Refined design and easily navigated website information regarding fair trade ingredients and sustainable business practices support Kabana's efforts to provide unparalleled products and create customers who feel great in mind and body.

Boulder, Colorado (PRWEB) November 10, 2005

Navigating the natural personal care products marketplace is treacherous given the lack of well established standards that describe what "natural" actually means. Not any more. Kabana Skin Care delivers superb and simple to understand rigorously natural skin care products designed to make its customers feel great in body and mind. Its flagship product, Kabana Crème™, is entirely composed of the Simple Seven™ natural ingredients, which everyone can readily understand by simply reading the label. No longer is it necessary to have a PhD in chemistry to understand what you’re putting on your body every day. Nor do any of the ingredients contain even trace amounts of petroleum or petrochemicals.

In addition to creating Precisely Natural™ skin care products, Kabana’s been chartered to provide information to its customers in a simple, transparent form so that they can comprehensively evaluate the merits of Kabana's product offerings. The launch of the easy to navigate website is not just a readily accessible sales channel, but also an integral part of Kabana’s strategy to promote access to a spectrum of information about each ingredient, from simple definitions and organic source status, to abstracts about the latest medical research. It also describes Kabana’s dedication to fair trade commerce, sustainable business practices and support of local communities both at home and abroad.

Kabana seeks to deliver a handful of highly refined products to its customers before expanding its product offerings. Currently three products are available, Kabana Crème™, an ultra moisturizing crème that reproduces the body’s natural set of skin moisturizers; Green Screen™ high performance sun block that uses no synthetic sunscreens and has the broadest spectrum FDA-approved UVA and UVB protection available coupled with highly effective antioxidants to protect and quickly heal sun exposed skin; and Sunsei™ UV protective soap, which enables its user to easily apply a daily primary level of UV protection while bathing. Products are customizable with over 30 cold-pressed or steam-extracted essential oils to choose and made to order. Future product releases include a UV protective shampoo and scalp conditioner, lip balms and a specialized sports product line.

Erik Kreider MS MBA, Kabana’s founder and creator of its formulas, is a dual degree graduate of Stanford University and former pharmaceutical scientist who realized there was a better way to nourish skin than the classical mass market or pharmaceutical approach. He explains, “Our society increasingly exposes us to higher and higher levels of complexity, which promotes insecurity because we’re simply overwhelmed. It doesn’t have to be this way - whether its electronics or part of our daily skin care routine, there’s great elegance in simplicity for both health and appearance. Kabana’s formulas are biochemically based on the structure of your skin, yet use very few extremely rich and easily understood ingredients, like fair trade shea butter, to provide simple elegance and unsurpassed nourishment that can’t be found in other natural skin care or sun block products. Every ingredient in Kabana is there because it benefits your skin – not because it makes the product store consistently in a warehouse for 18 months. The end result is an unparalleled experience of skin nourishment and protection that you fundamentally know will keep your skin youthful and healthy.”

Kabana Skin Care is based in the center of the natural products world – Boulder, Colorado, and can be accessed on the web at http://www. kabanaskincare. com (http://www. kabanaskincare. com). Its labs are within the old Amgen building, now primarily Array Biopharmaceuticals, at 1865 33rd Street.

Kabana Skin Care manufactures precisely natural skin care and sun block products that contain no synthetic or petroleum-based chemicals. Its current product offering is comprised of three essential oil-customizable lines – Kabana Crème™, an ultra emollient moisturizing crème with Simple Seven™ ingredients; Green Screen™, a high performance broad spectrum UVA & UVB sun block; and Sunsei™, a UV protective soap that delivers the same sun block while you bathe. All three are currently available at http://www. kabanaskincare. com (http://www. kabanaskincare. com) and soon at select merchants in the Boulder-Denver area.

Love your skin. Kabana does.™

Strategies for Seniors to Get the Most out of their Golden Years Discussed on GlobalTalkRadio. com

Strategies for Seniors to Get the Most out of their Golden Years Discussed on GlobalTalkRadio. com

David Silva, author of "Senior Moments", discussed the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead for seniors and the 78 million strong Baby Boomers soon to reach retirement in Global Talk Radio's "A Story to Tell".

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) June 2, 2006

Global Talk Radio (http://www. globaltalkradio. com (http://www. globaltalkradio. com)) is pleased to announce an exclusive interview with David Silva, author of "Senior Moments", in the top-rated internet talk radio program "A Story to Tell". Also joining the program from Canada is Shawn Bent, author of "Make Your Imagination Rich".

As David Silva entered his senior years, he faced the loss of his beloved spouse, had to come to terms with retirement, and found himself battling with heart failure and arthritis. He expressed his thoughts and feelings in a journal, and as others read his personal recollections, they too began to share their stories. Thus "Senior Moments", a wonderfully heartfelt and practical guide for seniors, was born. "Senior Moments" is a collection of essays, meditations and stories that will both inspire and help senior citizens through the good times and the difficult days that accompany the aging process. In the interview, Silva illustrates different ways of dealing with isolation and loneliness, chronic illness, and personal relationships, urging listeners to look at the process of aging with humor and good intentions - to observe the beauty in the natural world, to take care of their bodies, to exercise and eat a balanced diet, to maintain old and build new relationships, to maintain and reinforce their spirituality, and to laugh more and cry less. Silva is a seventy-six-year-young retired teacher and school administrator, and the author of two non-fiction books plus a book of short stories.

In today's second interview, Canadian author Shawn Bent shares how to make the most of yourself and let your life flow in his book, "Make Your Imagination Rich". Everyday we are faced with unpleasant circumstances that cause us to go into fits of worry, fear, frustration and anger. Unfortunately, these stress-related emotions corrode our inner health. In 2000/2001, over one-quarter of North American adults had stated that their lives were either quite stressful or extremely stressful. These were due to time pressures, work-related pressures, financial problems and other social pressures, and can lead to the loss of your most valuable tool: your self-respect. Instead of being written in the traditional self-help fashion of lists and instructions, Bent explained how "Make Your Imagination Rich" was written in a very thought-filled and reflective style, allowing readers to relate to the information by calling upon their own thoughts and automatically engaging in constructive actions as a result. Listeners hear about imagination and how it affects their outer lives, which appeals to everyone - both young and old.

Both interviews can be heard in their entirey on-demand 24/7 at: http://www. globaltalkradio. com/shows/astorytotell (http://www. globaltalkradio. com/shows/astorytotell).

Help Health LLC Proprietary Extraction From Certified Sea Sources Ensures Purest Mineral Base to Product Line

Help Health LLC Proprietary Extraction From Certified Sea Sources Ensures Purest Mineral Base to Product Line

Health-related benefits includes reducing sudden cardiac death, reduction in weight loss and muscle deterioration for people with advanced cancer (cachexia), protection against the development of atherosclerosis and heart disease and current research shows prevention of vascular disease in diabetics.

DEL., GA (PRWEB) December 12, 2003

There is no doubt that obtaining the correct levels of vitamins and trace minerals in a proper diet can aid in supporting the bodies immune system. The right combination of vitamins, minerals and Omega 3 supplements amounts to a high power thrust to the bodiesÂ’ immune system.

Help Health has set out to distinguish itself from other companies by providing all of the natural components of sea vegetation and Omega 3Â’s in their purest form.

“With lots of products on the market, it can be a challenge for the average consumer to understand which products are better than others,” added Domenick Fonte, Founder. “Help Health products are the purest on the market and retail at much lower price points than competitors’ products.”

The Help Health Clearwater Fish Oil is the only pharmaceutical grade fish oil with an approved FDA and Health Canada Drug Identification Number (“DIN”) in the country.

“Many consumers are not aware of the work involved in harvesting a single gallon of pharmaceutical grade fish oil,” stated Anthony Conti, director of Help Health. “They’re usually very surprised to learn that it takes 100 gallons of health grade fish oil to produce that single gallon of pharmaceutical grade.”

Organizations like the American Heart Association, the Mayo Clinic, American journal of medicine and WebMD continue to report benefits associated with this type of productÂ’s use, including the May 27 issue of Circulation: Journal of the American Heart Association that showed researchers found omega-3 fatty acids from fish oil are stored in cell membranes of heart cells and can prevent sudden cardiac death by blocking potentially fatal heart rhythms.

Help Health Clearwater Fish Oil is one of the purest available in the US. The 1000mg capsules contain 600mg of omega 3’s. Ingesting only 2 tablets per day are required to reach the American Heart Association’s suggested daily allowance of 900mg per day. Other less “pure” fish oils have serving sizes of 4 to 6 capsules per day.

Help Health has rendered its Performance Plus all natural blend drink from eight varieties of freshly harvested sea vegetation containing 74-plant based, naturally chelated, trace minerals.

“While other products may derive minerals from prehistoric plants that have allegedly decomposed in the soil, we believe that the body recognizes sea vegetables in the same way it recognizes fresh land vegetables – as nutrient rich foods,” said Domenick Fonte, president of Help Health. “Soil and shale-based minerals usually contain an extremely high concentration of Aluminum, Mercury and Sulfur – not only hard for the body to handle, but unsafe in higher doses.”

Help Health has developed a proprietary aqueous extraction method for Performance Plus drink which does not rely on heat or chemicals to remove the most valuable parts of sea vegetation, ensuring all of the natural components of the ingredients are preserved.

Another distinct difference between the Help Health Performance Plus drink and others is that the heavy metal concentration in soil-based products tends to make the taste unpalatable and contribute to gastrointestinal discomfort. Other products may contain high levels of sodium, or added sugars or sweeteners to mask the taste, and some contain artificial colors to hide sediment or match the productÂ’s physical appearance to its artificial flavoring.

The Performance Plus line of Help Health products contains only natural coloring and flavoring from natural black cherry, providing additional nutritional benefit and enhancing the taste.

Third-party analytical testing has proven that the composition of minerals contained in Help HealthÂ’s Performance Plus product is safe and non-toxic, and Help Health only uses aloe vera certified by the International Aloe Science Council to assure its quality and that all of the essential components in the aloe vera used in Help HealthÂ’s product are present.

“When used in combination, our Performance Plus Drink and Clearwater Fish Oil eliminate the need for any other vitamins,” added Fonte. “Consumers have nothing to lose and health to gain by trying our products – we offer a 100% guarantee on all our offerings.”

Scheduled for early December launch, Help Health will be offering the only available combination package purchase of Performance Plus and Clearwater Fish Oil on the market. A complete description of the product lines along with secure, online ordering is available at www. helphealth. com.

About Help Health

Help Health is a family-owned and operated business with only five employees. The company adheres to a down-to-earth philosophy where the president is available to speak with clients and future clients alike. They not only sell the product, but take it daily also!

Started by Domenick Fonte (age 68) in 1995, thickening of the lungs from working with Asbestos for 10 years caused Fonte to seek out relief. After a year on the product, Fonte and his physician of 20 years were shocked when he discovered his lungs had decreased in size and the thickening was gone. He began to sell it to family and friends, with the goal of helping people stay healthy. Domenick is dedicated to this cause.

Healthy U Chosen as Exclusive Concessions Provider for McHenry’s 1st Annual Kicks 4 Kids Youth Charity Soccer Tournament

Healthy U Chosen as Exclusive Concessions Provider for McHenry’s 1st Annual Kicks 4 Kids Youth Charity Soccer Tournament

Local Company Goes Beyond Providing Healthy Vending to Schools and Businesses to Bring Fresh, Locally Sourced, All-Natural Snacks and Beverages to Kicks 4 Kids Community Event

McHenry, IL (Vocus) June 18, 2010

Premier Wellness Chiropractic in association with Skills First Soccer and the McHenry Area Soccer Federation have partnered with McHenry’s Healthy U to be the exclusive provider of healthy sandwiches, snacks and beverages at the 1st annual Kicks 4 Kids soccer tournament on June 26th and 27th at McHenry Middle School. All proceeds from the 2010 tournament will be dedicated to the Options for Advocacy organization which has a mission to enhance and protect the lives of children and adults with disabilities.

“With childhood obesity rates tripling in less than 30 years (http://www. academicpedsjnl. net/article/S1876-2859%2809%2900109-0/abstract), we know getting our kids excited about wellness, physical activity and healthy eating has to be a top priority,” said Dr. Anthony J. Ebel, a pediatric and wellness-certified chiropractor at Premier Wellness Chiropractic. “The Kicks for Kids event not only promotes wellness for our community, but brings the whole community together to support a worthy cause.”

“In looking for a concession’s partner, we were searching for one with like-minded goals,” said Dr. Ebel. “With a mission to bring healthy, all-natural snacks and beverages to Chicagoland’s schools, businesses and community events, choosing Healthy U for the first Kicks for Kids youth soccer tournament was a no brainer.”

McHenry, IL-based Healthy U, started as a healthy, all-natural vending company, was founded in the spring of 2009 and is the brainchild of pharmaceutical industry veteran T Hephner.

“I started Healthy U in response to an unmet need I saw with my own kids,” said Hephner. “Unless we packed healthy snacks for them ‘to go,’ they didn’t have many choices at school or during extracurricular activities that weren’t full of sugar or processed ingredients. We are thrilled to be expanding our business beyond healthy vending to providing all-natural, healthy snacks and beverages at community events like the Kicks for Kids soccer tournament.”

The Kicks for Kids youth soccer tournament will be co-ed for children ages 6-14. There will be 7-12 players per team (no travel players please). The tournament will take place at McHenry Middle School, 2120 West Lincoln Road, McHenry, IL 60051, from 10 a. m.-5 p. m. Actor Scarlett Johansson Visits India & Sri Lanka; Commits to Helping End Poverty

Actor Scarlett Johansson Visits India & Sri Lanka; Commits to Helping End Poverty

Scarlett Johansson skips Oscars to Visit Oxfam-funded projects in India and Sri Lanka

Delhi (Vocus) February 27, 2007

Actor Scarlett Johansson has joined international agency Oxfam (www. oxfamamerica. org) in the fight against poverty following a life-changing trip to India and Sri Lanka. During her ten-day visit, Scarlett learned how investing in education and basic health-care are vital to saving lives and lifting millions of poor children and families out of poverty. She also met Indian women who've survived domestic violence and Tsunami survivors in Sri Lanka.

Scarlett, who has been a long-time supporter of Oxfam, was moved by the organization's response to saving and rebuilding lives following the 2004 Tsunami. She travelled with the international development organization to better understand the complex issues facing poor communities and how support and funding from the US and other rich nations can help end poverty.

She began her trip spending a day with young girls at an Oxfam-funded school in rural Uttar Pradesh, India that has enabled over a thousand poor children from the lowest Dalit caste to gain a basic education. In Delhi she met with survivors of domestic violence who are part of Oxfam's "We Can" campaign. Over 800,00 people have joined the campaign to overcome domestic violence which affects millions of women across South Asia.

"Having visited Oxfam-funded school programs in rural communities has made me realize how vital education is to developing countries in bringing people out of poverty and giving them a sense of dignity, self-worth and confidence," Scarlett Johansson said.

Scarlett, who is currently in India, said, "I met a young girl, Gudiya, at a school for Dalit children, a community considered to be the lowest class. She was an amazing, bright young girl, full of ambition and attending the fifth grade. When asked what she wanted to be when she grew up, she said 'a government official'. Every morning she rises at three a. m to study and then complete the household chores before walking for half an hour to school. I asked her how she felt she would be able to raise her family and also hold a government position. She responded confidently, 'I can manage.' Her self-pride and drive to succeed was an obvious outcome from her schooling."

In Sri Lanka, she met with a Sri Lankan Tsunami survivor Bandawathi Maitipe and her son Asela Abeytunga. She is piecing her life together after losing her husband, younger son and tailoring business.

"The devastation both directly and indirectly as a result of the tsunami is overwhelming. A mother who had received aid money to finance her small business and was living with her 25 year-old-son had lost both her husband and younger son as well as their home and tailoring shop, the only source of income. After two years, they are still waiting to be housed, after a long struggle with a landlord from whom they've had rented the house for the past fifty years. Afterwards, I went to visit a rural fishing community which Oxfam had fully irrigated, allowing people to live safely in a government development. After hearing such a devastating case that morning, seeing this village thrive gave me a sense of hope and progress. It was an incredible opportunity to see the grass roots approach being taken by non-governmental organizations, such as Oxfam, towards reconstructing the lives of this devastated country," Scarlett said.

Oxfam's Executive Director, Jeremy Hobbs, said that Scarlett's involvement was very important in helping gain attention to the solutions to poverty.

"By supporting Oxfam, Scarlett is taking a stand alongside millions of people globally who are working to overcome poverty," said Oxfam's Hobbs. "Her support is crucial in helping to show how the smallest donation to Oxfam can mean the world of difference to a poor community."

New University of Florida Study Finds Açaí Wild Berry Actually Destroyed Cultured Leukemia Cells

New University of Florida Study Finds Açaí Wild Berry Actually Destroyed Cultured Leukemia Cells

In alternative health, açaí is all the rage. While relatively new to the American consciousness, açaí has been around for centuries and has helped many people with its healthful qualities. In order to benefit completely from açaí, however, one must truly understand what it is and what it does.

Ft Lauderdale, FL (PRWEB) August 21, 2008

Published in the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, the study showed extracts from acai (ah-SAH'-ee) berries triggered a self-destruct response in up to 86 percent of leukemia cells tested, said Stephen Talcott, an assistant professor with UF's Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences. Açaí is a distinct purple berry indigenous to the Amazon rainforest. The açaí fruit may be found in some of the large palm trees that grow in the thick forest; these trees can reach as high as 82 feet! Unlike cherries, which grow individually in trees, the açaí berry grows in bunches, more like bananas. On average, each palm tree can yield anywhere from three to eight bunches.

You might say açaí is fast becoming known as a wonder food for its versatility. Açaí has nutrient properties and is naturally rich in:
Omega fats (the good kind, unlike the saturated fats found in fast food)  amino acids  electrolytes  antioxidants  protein  vitamins A, B1 and E The people of the Amazon rainforest use açaí in many different dishes - from drinks and shakes to breakfasts and bars. Brazilians use açaí to flavor meat and fish entrees, too, topping dishes with a pulpy, curd-like substance made from the fruit.

Not only does açaí provide a delicious taste to complement food, it is known around the Amazon for amazing health benefits. Açaí is known to be used for treatment of digestive problems, skin irritation, sexual dysfunction, and even insomnia. The açaí berry is naturally low in sugar, too.

Only in recent years have people in North America discovered how açaí makes them feel energetic and healthy. Take a trip to your favorite smoothie place and you might find açaí as one of the add-in ingredients available to you. Not only are consumers finding the benefits of açaí to their interest, but researchers and the media are amazed by the power of this small berry. NBC's Today did a feature story on açaí in 2004, and more recently researchers at the University of Florida tested the attributes of açaí to discover it actually destroyed cultured leukemia cells.

Will açaí cure cancer?

We can't say for certain. All we know is that açaí possesses some very strong health properties that may benefit people in the long run.

Can you eat the berries that make açaí directly?

Strangely enough, no. It is not recommended that one just pluck the berries from the tree and start snacking. The berries are harvested and processed, and the açaí is extracted from the pulp of the berry and sold in stores all over South America. It is said that beverages containing açaí are more popular than milk in the southern hemisphere. That's because South Americans know they are getting a pure, healthy drink that benefits their alertness and well-being, and it gets them through the day.

Where do you get açaí?

Enter açaí into Internet search and you are bound to find hundreds of online shops selling açaí in various forms - drinks, powders, and capsules. This wonder supplement is in very high demand, but when you shop for açaí it is important to know whether or not you are getting the purest extracts of açaí available, directly from the Amazon Rainforest. Check the labels!

Does açaí cause any side effects?

Current research indicates no known side effects to taking açaí in any form. Though açaí has been around for ages, it is still quite new to the United States, and no doubt is still being observed by health professionals. However, the testimony of the overall health of the Amazonian people speaks well for this little fruit with big potential. As an online store http://www. DrinkAcaiJuice. com (http://www. DrinkAcaiJuice. com) has met a demand by offering often hard to find exceptional, natural Amazon products for children and parents. For more information visit their website http://www. Sudan’s Post-Referendum Needs? Peace and Protection for Development, World Vision Says

Sudan’s Post-Referendum Needs? Peace and Protection for Development, World Vision Says

South Sudan, where one out of seven children dies before reaching age five, has some of the worst human development indicators in the world. International humanitarian agency World Vision says even as this month’s referendum on independence marks a watershed moment for the region’s identity, the longstanding humanitarian difficulties of extreme poverty, economic underdevelopment and dire child and maternal health problems will continue to require focused efforts for years to come. International support to maintain the fragile peace will also be crucial.

Washington, DC (PRWEB) January 7, 2011

Even as this month’s referendum on Southern Sudan’s independence marks a watershed moment for the region’s identity, the longstanding humanitarian difficulties of extreme poverty, economic underdevelopment and dire child and maternal health problems will continue to require focused efforts for years to come, World Vision aid experts say. International support to maintain the fragile peace will also be crucial.

Southern Sudan, where one out of seven children dies before reaching age five, has some of the worst human development indicators in the world. The autonomous South also faces large numbers of returnees from the North who will need assistance to resettle and rebuild their lives. There is potential of unrest or armed conflict around the January 9 referendum, part of the 2005 Comprehensive Peace Agreement that ended decades of war, if lingering issues of wealth sharing, border demarcation, citizenship and security are not resolved.

World Visionis calling on local, regional and global leaders to prioritize ensuring peace as a basis of lasting development and better lives for all Sudanese.

“Whatever the outcome of the referendum, leaders must promote the well-being and protection of civilians, particularly children, so the people and communities of the region have the opportunity to reach their potential,’’ said Edwin Asante, program director for World Vision South Sudan. “Any approach to a lasting peace must address access to resources, and seek to resolve conflicts at all levels -- national, state and local – and we’ve seen that a stable peace is the foundation for development.”

On returnees and displacements:
More than 120,000 people are estimated to have returned to South Sudan from the north ahead of the referendum, already exerting considerable pressure on social infrastructure. Mass movements of people may lead to a jump in acute malnutrition or outbreaks of disease amid difficulty accessing life’s basic provisions such as food, clean water, or shelter Further conflict can also increase risk of disease outbreaks and the vulnerability of children

“We are hoping for the best during the referendum process, but we have prepared for any humanitarian response. We continue to respond to populations of internally displaced persons and to the people coming from the north, ahead of the referendum, into the transit camps. Our pre-positioned relief aid includes food, blankets, mosquito nets, cooking pans and soap.

“While non-governmental organizations including World Vision are monitoring the conditions of returnees, it is the responsibility of the government of South Sudan to provide support for their immediate material needs, livelihoods, land, transportation and re-integration,” said Asante.

On minimizing conflict:
Sudan is rich in oil and mineral resources, but more than two decades of war and local conflicts have brought a devastating humanitarian crisis to the region.

“Authorities will have to ensure equitable distribution of local level economic and livelihoods opportunities in order to avert further conflict over resources such as land, cattle, water and food,” said Asante. “Forging more community-based peacebuilding and reconciliation is necessary to progress in development, as is investing in education for the young people of Sudan.”

On international roles:
“Real progress and development will require that the international community partner with the Sudanese long after the referendum. We encourage the U. S. government to look beyond immediate humanitarian needs and invest in a long-term focus on Sudan, working with the Sudanese to build a better future,” said Jesse Eaves, policy advisor for World Vision in the U. S.
“International guarantors of the CPA including the U. S., the U. K. and the African Union have a role in maintaining the fragile peace after the referendum. Together they can hold the authorities in both North and South accountable for treatment of civilians, and they can press for and monitor dialogue on key issues including nationality, border demarcation, revenue sharing and citizenship in order to prevent any further violence in Sudan,” said Eaves.

On child protection:
There are currently 1300 children actively serving in units of the Sudan People’s Liberation Army (SPLA), according to the U. S. Department of State. The SPLA had set a deadline of December 2010 to demobilize all children within its ranks but failed to meet that deadline. “The U. S. must hold militaries responsible for using children in their armed forces, and provide assistance to demobilize children and return them to their homes,” said Eaves.

FAST FACTS on South Sudan:
South Sudan’s total population is 8.26 million
More than half live below the poverty line of less than $1 (US) per day One out of four adults is literate 72% of the population is below the age of 30 More than half (51%) of the population are children and teenagers 83% of the population is rural; most depend on crops or animal husbandry as main income

The MedZilla Report: May 2008 Employment Outlook for Biotech/Pharma/Health

The MedZilla Report: May 2008 Employment Outlook for Biotech/Pharma/Health

With more employers looking for qualified candidates and tens of thousands of jobs being created every month, the medical employment outlook continues good, especially for recent college graduates and despite the layoff announcements that tend to shock the average job seeker.

Seattle, WA (PRWEB) June 25, 2008

The number of available jobs in health care continued to rise through the month of May, with some surprising changes in the amount of candidates being searched for in certain states. While the number of open positions changed little on a state-by-state basis, two states experienced wide swings in searches by employers, and several others shifted significantly as well. Companies in New Jersey searched for 7.8 percent fewer new employees in May than they did in June. That, however, was offset by significant gains in Illinois -- 5.9 percent -- and increases of more than two percent in three other states. In fact, across the board, candidate searches showed a general increase.

MedZilla. com, the leading career site for biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, healthcare and science showed, however, that employees in states showing significant gains weren't performing job searches at a comparable rate. Job seekers in New York increased their searches by about half a percent, and that was the greatest change from April to May. A good sign for both applicants and employers was that more companies were searching for sales personnel in May than in April, and more job seekers were looking for sales positions.

May was an interesting month in terms of outplacements, as -- despite the fact that jobs grew in the medical sector -- for the first time this year, a hospital system in North America announced cutbacks of more than 100 people. The Rogue Valley Health System in Ontario, Canada, said they would need to eliminate about 120 people from their payroll. A little closer to home, WellCare, a managed-care company, announced just over 200 layoffs, though they also noted they had just as many job openings.

The outplacement report for May also helped explain why New Jersey-based companies slowed their job search efforts: Johnson & Johnson and Merck, both based in that state, reported impending downsizing efforts. Johnson & Johnson plans to cut 400 sales jobs, and Merck announced they were eliminating 1,200 positions on top of the 8,100 positions already eliminated under a December 2005 restructuring plan.

Even though these massive layoffs, in conjunction with several other, smaller job cuts, may seem disheartening, there is light at the end of the tunnel. "A number of encouraging clinical trials taking place could boost the employment outlook in the future," said Michele Hopps, director of marketing for MedZilla. "Also, collaborative agreements are in the works that are likely to further research in certain areas, and new supply deals may help to more quickly move new products to market."

On the topic of good news, the job market remains positive for those seeking jobs at hospitals and clinics. Job growth over the last 12 months has totaled 383,000, with 34,000 of those jobs being created in May alone. And those new jobs may be good fits for recent graduates -- a January article by economist Charles Whelan, Ph. D., made the comparison that recently-unemployed auto workers in Flint, Mich. might have difficulty getting jobs at newer factories because the new facilities use technologies with which they have little or no experience. Medical breakthroughs are being made all the time, and job seekers who just graduated are most likely to have used new technologies and been exposed to techniques and medications not available even as little as a year ago. But recently-outplaced workers need not worry; odds are good they too were exposed to the same developments.

"In medicine more than any other field of study, it's easy to get left behind if you stay out of the workforce for too long," Hopps said. She did, however, add that those seeking work in pharmaceutical sales were less likely to face this difficulty. "Salespeople should keep up on the latest developments in drugs and technology. This can be easily accomplished by putting the internet to work for them by doing something as simple as setting up an RSS feed."

About MedZilla. com:

DENVER, CO (PRWEB) May 24, 2003

The American Society of Bariatric Physicians (ASBP) will hold its 53rd Annual Obesity & Associated Conditions Symposium in Chicago, Illinois at the Hotel Inter-Continental, from October 7-11, 2003.

Three courses will be offered:

1. Basic Bariatric Course (October 7) – Basic science and “how-to’s” of weight management.

2. Practice Productivity Course (October 8) – Practical tips for attracting and retaining patients.

3. 53rd Annual Symposium (October 9-11) – Learn about the latest research in obesity treatment and how to use it in your practice.

The ASBP is a national specialty medical society that was established in 1950 to provide training and set standards in the field of bariatric medicine. The term “bariatric” is derived from the greek word “baros,” meaning weight, and was coined by one of the founders of our society. Bariatric medicine addresses the overweight or obese individual with a customized program of diet, exercise and behavior modification, and, when indicated the prescription of appropriate medications. With the surge of bariatric surgeries, our members are playing a growing role in pre - and post-op care.

The ASBP is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), and the courses are eligible for American Medical Association - Physicians Recognition Award (AMA-PRA) Category 1 CME and AOA-CME category 2-A credit. The American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) will be asked to review the program for eligibility of AAFP prescribed credit.

An Epidemic of Obesity

• According to the National Center for Health Statistics, 55% of the U. S. adult population (97 million) is overweight, with 31% (59 million) considered obese.

• Approximately one in five children between the ages of 6 and 17 is overweight. The number of overweight children has more than doubled in the past 30 years.

• Obesity related medical conditions contribute to about 300,000 deaths each year, second only to smoking as a cause of preventable death.

• Excess weight is an established risk factor for high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, coronary artery disease, stroke, gallbladder disease, osteoarthritis, sleep apnea, respiratory problems and some types of cancer.

• Type 2 diabetes accounts for nearly 90% of all cases of diabetes. Researchers estimate that 88% to 97% of type 2 diabetes in overweight people is a direct result of obesity.

• Overweight and obesity are estimated to cost society over $200 billion each year in medical expenses and lost productivity.

Poseidon Develops New Technology to Enhance Performance of Mosquito Repellents

Poseidon Develops New Technology to Enhance Performance of Mosquito Repellents

Poseidon's new product, MR-008, effectively boosts the repellent properties of other existing products to keep bugs at bay.

New York, NY (PRWEB) August 14, 2003 - friendly, highly-

Effective product that can be added to existing cosmetic formulations that prevent mosquitoes from biting.

This comes as U. S. health and local officials struggle through another deadly outbreak this summer of the West Nile virus, and an increase in the mosquito population following a long, wet spring season.

Protecting oneself against mosquito bites for as long as you possibly can through the use of repellents remains one of the best precautions. PoseidonÂ’s MR Technology is the result of over ten years of research on repellents. Recent test results on MR Technology show the enhancement of protection times of formulations containing DEET and other natural products.

This new material, referred to as MR-008, is a GRAS (generally regarded as safe) compound, which can be formulated into a moisturizer, cream, spray or lotion to provide protection times of up to eight hours. MR-008 also does not harm clothes, plastics and synthetics it comes into contact with.

“We expect MR-008 to be a complementary reinforcement to the protection offered by existing natural, but weaker repellents,” says Lara Parpan, Communications Director of Poseidon Sciences, Inc.

Mosquito-borne diseases prevail throughout the world. A vaccine against the West Nile virus, which killed 284 people in the U. S. in 2002, is not expected in a few years.

Malaria remains one of the most infectious diseases in the less developed regions of the world, killing more than one million persons a year; dengue fever is five percent fatal among the millions that catch it annually, while yellow fever claims more than 30,000 lives worldwide.

Poseidon Sciences is a company based in New York with research facilities worldwide. It is engaged in discovering novel technologies for applications in human health and the environment.

Among its recent innovations is a nontoxic antifouling additive to prevent the attachment of fouling organisms such as barnacles and algae on shipsÂ’ bottoms. PoseidonÂ’s current research activities include development of natural compounds for use in diabetes and inflammation.

Cleveland Clinic Launches Ground-Breaking Wellness Program To Reverse Effects of Common Chronic Diseases

Cleveland Clinic Launches Ground-Breaking Wellness Program To Reverse Effects of Common Chronic Diseases

"Lifestyle 180" wellness program equips participants with tools to live healthy, active lives. The six-week program includes almost 50 hours of hands-on guidance in nutrition/cooking, exercise, and stress management. The next session begins on March 16.

Cleveland, OH (PRWEB) March 5, 2009

As a top-ranked healthcare institution, Cleveland Clinic has consistently sought to shift the national focus from providing "sick" care to promoting wellness. As part of this commitment, Cleveland Clinic has launched Lifestyle 180, a new wellness program (http://my. clevelandclinic. org/wellness/reclaim_your_health. aspx) that helps reverse and decrease the effects of several common chronic diseases that are plaguing the healthcare system and costing participants their quality of life.

The six-week program includes almost 50 hours of hands-on guidance from a team of wellness experts (http://my. clevelandclinic. org/wellness/default. aspx), including registered dietitians, exercise physiologists, and stress management and yoga instructors. Elizabeth Ricanati, M. D., Medical Director for Lifestyle 180, manages disease-specific therapies for each participant and advises them through regular one-on-one sessions.

"We feel that Lifestyle 180 truly represents a fundamental change in how medicine and healthcare can impact participants' lives for the better," said Dr. Ricanati. "Research shows that many chronic conditions are largely the result of lifestyle decisions, so if we can teach people how to make better choices, we can reduce the number of people living with these diseases instead of simply adding to the numbers afflicted."

Each Lifestyle 180 group has 12 to 16 participants who meet for four-hour classes twice a week at Cleveland Clinic's new Wellness campus in Lyndhurst, Ohio. Currently, Lifestyle 180 is open to participants with metabolic disorders, like hypertension, high cholesterol, diabetes and obesity, and participants with multiple sclerosis. The wellness program (http://my. clevelandclinic. org/wellness/default. aspx) will expand in the spring to include other conditions.

The components of the program include:

1. Nutrition/Cooking - After a trip to the grocery store to learn how to make healthy selections and read food labels, a Lifestyle 180 registered dietitian provides ongoing insight into what to eat, when to eat it, how to prepare it and what to watch out for, including tips and tricks for eating out. Also, participants cook their own meal at every class, under the instruction of a professional chef, who provides hands-on kitchen skills sessions and secrets to keeping the taste in while keeping unhealthy ingredients out.

2. Exercise - Cleveland Clinic exercise physiologists create group workouts that can include cardio exercises, resistance training or other physical activities that can be modified for participants given their abilities. From the state-of-the-art Lifestyle 180 gym to exercises that can be easily continued at home with hand weights, exercise balls and stretch bands, participants learn how to incorporate this program into their daily lives and reap the benefits of physical activity.

3. Stress management - Many unhealthy lifestyle decisions are the result of stress, so dealing with stress in healthy ways is a major focus of Lifestyle 180. Participants learn stress management techniques like meditation and deep breathing from a behavioral medicine specialist and participate in rejuvenation yoga, led by a certified instructor who teaches simple postures and breathing exercises.

The program also incorporates one-on-one meetings with Dr. Ricanati, who helps each patient set goals and monitors their progress. She also oversees the entire wellness program to ensure maximum benefit and safety for participants. Once they complete the program, participants are invited to five follow-up sessions over the next year and are eligible for additional sessions in the years ahead.

Average findings from Lifestyle 180 pilot classes showed that after the six-week wellness program, participants:
Reduced their body weight by four percent Reduced their body mass index (BMI) by four percent Reduced their LDL cholesterol levels by six percent

In addition, three of the pilot participants no longer needed five of their prescription medications after the six-week program, and overall, about one-third of participants are able to come off at least one drug within 10 weeks of starting the program.

"As one of the world's most respected academic medical centers, we see firsthand the consequences of certain preventable conditions and their effects on the healthcare system," said Michael F. Roizen (http://my. clevelandclinic. org/staff_directory/7/staff_6161.aspx), M. D., Chief Wellness Officer at Cleveland Clinic. "Our experience treating the sometimes life-threatening conditions that emanate from unhealthy habits has motivated us to offer several innovative, proactive wellness programs like Lifestyle 180 to our employees, participants and the community."

The next session of Lifestyle 180 begins March 16. For more information on Lifestyle 180, visit http://my. clevelandclinic. org/wellness/reclaim_your_health. aspx (http://my. clevelandclinic. org/wellness/reclaim_your_health. aspx).

Cheap Phentermine Without a Change in Lifestyle Habits Won't Keep Weight Off Permanently

Cheap Phentermine Without a Change in Lifestyle Habits Won't Keep Weight Off Permanently

Buying cheap Phentermine at Alano RX Meds without making other changes in your life may send you back to gaining weight.

(PRWEB) January 26, 2005

Phentermine, for its low price and effectiveness, remains as the top selling weight loss pills on the market. Alano RX Meds (www. alanorxmeds. com) continues to sell this product at low prices for customers that qualify for a prescription to lose weight.

However, we at Alano RX Meds want our customers to be aware that taking the weight off and keeping it off are two different things entirely. Yes, we want to sell products, but we also want our customers to be satisfied for the long-run. Therefore, if you are considering losing weight by using diet pills, please also consider altering your living habits. Most doctors will generally agree with this information.

Many weight-loss conquerors do attribute much of their lost pounds to drugs like Phentermine. However, more of those same people that reduce their weight will keep it off by changing their lifestyle. Losing this weight will accommodate a new lifestyle change to be permanently embraced. Amanda J. of Texas knows first hand how hard it is to not gain weight. During her college years she gained over a hundred pounds. After realizing that increased weight at an obese level may help allow related health problems to occur, she knew it was time to lose weight. Using Phentermine and making other lifestyle changes, she was able to lose almost 100lbs in about 6 months. The benefit of carrying less weight has allowed her to continue a lifestyle that keeps pounds off.

Phentermine falls in the drug class called anorectics which decrease the appetite likely by altering the serotonin in the brain. This drug stimulates the nervous system which may cause elevation of blood pressure and faster heart rates. This drug is usually only available for the obese persons. Drugs like Phentermine often are some individualsÂ’ last hope for losing weight after having tried many other diet plans.

If you use prescription diet drugs like Phentermine, it is important for you to know that health risks do exist with these pills as they do with other diet plans. Lost weight can help you look good and feel better, but safety is the key when attempting to change your body. Contact with a doctor when attempting to lose weight using any diet plans and/or prescribed solutions is good sense.

Alano RX Meds makes extended effort to see that customers are satisfied with their purchase. Alano RX Meds has a commitment to delivering a quality product securely, discreetly, and safely at inexpensive prices. In addition to Phentermine, they also offer other weight loss pills including Tenuate, Meridia, Adipex, Xenical, and Ionamin.

Automated Blood Pressure Devices Can Reduce White-Coat Effect In Physician's Office

Automated Blood Pressure Devices Can Reduce White-Coat Effect In Physician's Office

The measurement of blood pressure in the physician’s office is subject to a number of observer errors and also to the “white-coat effect.” Automatic devices that measure blood pressure without a human observer in the room can eliminate many of these problems.

Issaquah, WA (Vocus/PRWEB) December 09, 2010

For some patients, blood pressure measurements taken in a physician’s office may not correctly characterize their typical blood pressure. In up to 25% of patients evaluated in the physician office, blood pressure measurements were higher than their typical blood pressure. White coat hypertension (WCH) can result from anxiety related to an examination by a health care professional. The misdiagnosis of hypertension for these patients can result in needless and possibly harmful medication. White coat hypertension can be reduced (but not eliminated) with automated blood pressure measurements over 15 to 20 minutes in a quiet part of the office or clinic.

According to the Mayo Clinic, there are two types of high blood pressure.

Primary (essential) hypertension:

For most adults, there's no identifiable cause of high blood pressure. This type of high blood pressure, called essential hypertension or primary hypertension, tends to develop gradually over many years.

Secondary hypertension:

Some people have high blood pressure caused by an underlying condition. This type of high blood pressure, called secondary hypertension, tends to appear suddenly and cause higher blood pressure than does primary hypertension. Various conditions and medications can lead to secondary hypertension, including:
Kidney problems  Adrenal gland tumors  Certain defects in blood vessels you're born with (congenital)  Certain medications, such as birth control pills, cold remedies, decongestants, over-the-counter pain relievers and some prescription drugs  Illegal drugs, such as cocaine and amphetamines

According to an article published in the Cleveland Clinic Journal of Medicine, “…the BpTRU blood pressure monitor has enjoyed greater clinical acceptance, since it can take up to five blood pressure readings at intervals of 1 to 5 minutes, and calculates the mean of all five readings, taken with the patient resting comfortably in a quiet room without a clinician present.”

About BpTRU:

The BpTRU line of Blood Pressure Monitors is recommended by the Canadian, American British and European Hypertension societies. BpTRU is the gold standard for office blood pressure measurement devices. The development of the BpTRU products was guided by physicians who understand the significance of accurate blood pressure reading for the control of hypertension. A diagnosis of hypertension can affect a patient for the rest of their lives. BpTRU’s objective is to ensure the highest level of quality in manufacturing while focusing on the scientific and medical purpose of our product and the markets it serves.

Hubworx Offers IT Resellers New Tools to Delight Their Customers

Hubworx Offers IT Resellers New Tools to Delight Their Customers

New server software offers proactive pay-as-you-go support to prevent IT problems while keeping costs predictable and manageable.

Ayr, United Kingdom (PRWEB) June 30, 2005

Hubworx, provider of open source based business solutions, today announced the immediate availability of Hubworx Integrated Appliance Software. The new offering is an all-in-one server software solution that provides network security and management, web-based collaboration tools, and a thin client server complete with Open Office. The platform is also available as a pre-installed hardware solution. A free evaluation version is available for download at www. hubworx. com.

Hubworx is recruiting distributors and resellers for the new solution who recognise the importance of proactive support and preventative maintenance to their customer base. Hubworx provides tools designed to reduce the number of onsite emergency visits required to support their products and believe that customers are more satisfied when their software does not distract them from the successful running of their business.

Hubworx supplies monitoring services so resellers can quantify the status of each clientÂ’s systems on a regular basis, details of any problem that occurred and steps taken to correct the problem. In most cases the remote support team will take corrective action without the client noticing any difference in the performance of their system.

Resellers of this solution are given the opportunity to cement long term relationships with their clients by offering a platform that focuses on stability and fast customer service.

Resellers can also earn generous recurring monthly commissions on any sales they make, and have the potential to upsell to their customers as their needs expand or as new modules are added to the system.

“Hubworx Integrated Appliance software really gives resellers a new toolkit to develop new business and enhance relations with existing customers,” said Graeme Millar, Managing Director of Hubworx. “There are customers out there who are drawn to Open Source solutions for reasons of cost or security. There are other customers out there that appreciate this solution purely for its proactive support. Still others value the fact that there is no license lock-in and the solution is a pay-as-you-go option. In order to offer these benefits to end customers we have to be absolutely focused on providing stable products and excellent customer service to our reseller base.”

The Hubworx Integrated Appliance software includes everything needed to manage a network and create a collaborative environment to boost productivity. The software itself is free; customers need only pay for Hubworx Managed Support services to guarantee the continued health of the system, but there are no contracts or commitments required. Subscribers can choose to activate the combination of modules most suited to their unique requirements and can cancel at any time. The available modules are:

Hubworx Network Manager: The Network Manager enables the sharing of files, printers and Internet connections among multiple users, while offering the protection of advanced firewall technology. Built-in antivirus, antispam and content filtering are constantly updated to protect the integrity of the data on connected PCs.

Hubworx Web Office: A customisable intranet portal containing a collaborative suite with email and calendaring, time management and billing, online courses, and a trouble ticketing system. Web Office allows Hubworx Integrated Appliance users to access their data securely outside the office from any Internet enabled PC.

Hubworx Thin Client Manager: The Hubworx Thin Client Manager provides everything required to connect thin clients to the network, or convert obsolete PCs into thin clients. It contains a full Linux Graphical Operating System (with similar functionality to Windows) as well as a suite of Open Source Office Applications.

Hardware Platform: Hubworx Integrated Appliance software is also available pre-installed on a powerful hardware platform for those who wish to skip the initial installation and configuration steps.
