Hospice of Michigan To Benefit From Cellular Phone Donation Effort

Donors will be able to contribute & recycle at the same time.

Warren, MI (PRWEB) November 26, 2004

Hospice of Michigan, a provider of both comprehensive health care services for people with a terminal illness and support for their loved ones, will soon make financial donation to their cause and mission easier than ever.

American Cellular Donation Organization (ACDO), a nonprofit organization based in Warren, announced today that Hospice of Michigan will launch a used cell phone collection campaign. During the campaign, used, idle cell phones will be asked for, thus freeing them from closets, desks and dressers and enabling them to be exchanged for charitable cash. No out-of-pocket cash donation is needed -- just a willingness to donate a used cell phone.

Nonworking cell phones that are collected will be recycled according to all EPA guidelines so they donÂ’t end up in landfills, where their toxins could harm the environment.

“We are honored and pleased to assist Hospice of Michigan in this fundraising and recycling effort” ACDO founder and CEO Vincent Serio said today. “Thanks to Hospice, terminally ill patients and their families are provided with the care and support that they so badly need,” Mr. Serio added.

Mr. Serio said there are currently over 500 million idle cell phones in the United States and, he said, the country is seeing the first overabundance of cell phones in its history, providing an untapped resource for fundraising and recycling.

Bradley Gee, Development Associate for Hospice of Michigan, said, “All funds raised through this project will be used to support Hospice of Michigan’s Open Access policy. Our organization has an unwavering commitment to provide quality end-of-life care to any person requesting it, regardless of ability to pay.”

ACDO turns the donated cell phones into cash thru their sale to third world countries, small retailers, and others who need mobile communication but would not otherwise be able to afford it.

People interested in donating their used cell phones to Hospice of Michigan are urged to call (313) 578-5000. For more information about ACDO, including how your organization can raise funds thru cell phone donations, call (586) 353-1010 or visit www. cellulardonation. org.
