Texas Insurance Companies to Pay for Human Papillomavirus (HPV) as part of Cervical Cancer Screening in Women

Texas Insurance Companies to Pay for Human Papillomavirus (HPV) as part of Cervical Cancer Screening in Women

Texas women may soon find some relief during their annual checkups as the Texas legislature has ordered Texas insurance companies to pay for testing for the Human Papillomavirus (HPV). Texas is the third state following New Mexico and Maryland requiring health insurance companies to pay for this test as part of routine examinations.

(PRWEB) July 5, 2005

Texas women may soon find some relief during their annual checkups as the Texas legislature has ordered Texas insurance companies to pay for testing for the Human Papillomavirus (HPV).

Texas has become the third state, following New Mexico and Maryland to require that insurers pay for testing for the human papillomavirus (HPV) as part of cervical cancer screening for women age 30 and older. Texas will require the new coverage as of Jan. 1, 2006.

Gaithersburg, Maryland based company Digene makes the only test approved by the FDA for high-risk types of HPV.

New Mexico and Maryland, both of which recently passed similar laws requiring insurance coverage of HPV testing as part of routine screening. HPV is a common virus that causes almost all cases of cervical cancer.

Digene's test, known as the DNAwithPap Test, accounts for more than 80 percent of the company's revenue.

While only three states require coverage, Digene says an estimated 23 states have set up task forces to study ways to expand cervical cancer screening and educate women on the importance of regular screening and the availability of new approaches such as HPV testing.

Digene reported fiscal third-quarter revenue rose 26 percent to $29.7 million as worldwide sales of its HPV test grew 33 percent.

World Traveler Patsy Garrison Says: "I'm Enjoying Life Again with BreathePure Nasal Air Filters"

World Traveler Patsy Garrison Says: "I'm Enjoying Life Again with BreathePure Nasal Air Filters"

At Work, At Play and On the Road, BreathePure® Nasal Air Filters Keep Allergy-Like Symptoms on Hold - Laboratory Tests Show Inexpensive, Disposable Nasal Filters Remove Up to 97 Percent of Most Pollen, Dust and Other Airborne Allergens

Santa Barbara, CA (PRWEB) July 25, 2007

From the grassy plains of Africa, the windswept mountains of Ecuador and the dusty deserts of the Australian outback - eternally youthful retiree Patsy Garrison has traveled the world, often braving conditions that might keep others indoors. Even though she has environmental sensitivity and is a lifelong allergy sufferer, the grandmother of five and former cattle rancher says BreathePure Nasal Air Filters prevent dust, pollen and even camel hair from ruining her journeys to faraway places.

"I used to sneeze and cough something awful when I'd travel," she said, kicking up her feet on the sun drenched porch of her Duncan, Oklahoma ranch. "But, since I found the BreathePure nose filters, I haven't been bothered one single minute by my sensitivity to stuff in the air."

Developed primarily for allergy sufferers, BreathePure Nasal Air Filters are being put to the test by a growing legion of consumers. Made of clinical, non-latex foam, the unobtrusive filters are placed just inside the nose, blocking out up to 97 percent of airborne particulates. Unlike face masks, the lightweight, disposable filters allow the user to talk, eat, drink and breathe normally while keeping irritating particulates from entering the respiratory system.

"Sometimes people will ask me what I have in my nose," the good-natured Ms. Garrison commented. "Usually I'll pretend I don't know what they mean. Then I'll show them the box and they'll want to know where they can get some."

For millions of Americans, more time outdoors brings the annoyance of sneezing and runny, stuffy noses. Now, convenient and easy-to-use BreathePure Nasal Filters are helping consumers avoid this discomfort in the air at home, in the workplace and while traveling and outdoors.

"BreathePure is a practical, drug-free method for dealing with the seasonal and year-round annoyance of common reactions to pollen, spores and the hundreds of particles in the air we breathe," said Richard Ambrose, president of BreathePure Healthcare LLC, a Santa Barbara, Calif. company specializing in innovative wellness products. "The reason BreathePure filters are so effective is that they filter most airborne allergens before they enter the respiratory system."

According to tests conducted by an independent filter testing laboratory, the comfortable, lightweight foam filters capture up to 97 percent of most airborne particulates 7 microns or larger. This includes particles associated with pollen and dust mites, as well as a majority of particles from fungi and spores, human hair, household dust and pet dander.

"Now I use them all day long, whether I'm traveling or just here at home," Ms. Garrison said. "I use to think twice about just picking blackberries on the ranch and now I don't give it a second thought."

According to researchers at the School of Public Health at Harvard and the British National Pollen Research Center, studies indicate that allergy season now starts earlier, lasts longer and brings more intense reactions due to a lengthening of the growing season of weeds, grasses and trees.

Doctors and Allergists recommend a variety of strategies to avoid the inhalation of the airborne irritants that provoke symptoms ranging from sneezing, coughing and itchy, watery eyes:
Stay indoors in the morning, when pollen and mold counts are highest Avoid yard work such as mowing the lawn and raking leaves Keep windows at home and the workplace closed Drive with windows rolled up; ensure your air filtration system is properly maintained Clean, dust and vacuum frequently, especially the garage and attic Wash your hair more often than usual to remove airborne particles

For most active people, it is simply impractical to follow all of these measures. The introduction of the BreathePure Nasal Filter now offers an inexpensive, drug-free solution for avoiding harmful and irritating airborne particulates while maintaining a normal lifestyle.

BreathePure Nasal Air Filters provide a new approach for avoiding the pollen, dust and other irritants that cause millions of Americans discomfort.

PRODUCT AVAILABILITY: BreathePure Nasal Air Filters are available at retailers and online for a suggested retail price of $8.75 for a package of 7 disposable filters in Large and Small/Medium sizes. To purchase, visit www. AllergyControl. com or www. BreathePureNAP. com

IntelAble 2.0 Software Enables Intel Atom Development - Universal Library

IntelAble 2.0 Software Enables Intel Atom Development - Universal Library

Florida based baKno today announces IntelAble 2.0 solution, an update to their universal library for the Intel Atom SDK. Intel's own SDK is exclusively for C and C++ programmers who use particular versions of Microsoft's Visual Studio. IntelAble 2.0 adds support for: Adobe Flash (with Zinc), Java (any desktop IDE for Windows or Linux), Unity Pro, Runtime Revolution, C++ (any Windows compiler), and C# (any Windows compiler). Now developers in any IDE can create apps for Intel's AppUp Center.

Key Biscayne, Florida (PRWEB) July 8, 2010

baKno today is pleased to announce IntelAble 2.0 solution, an update to their highly successful universal library for Intel Atom SDK. Intel's own SDK is exclusively for C and C++ programmers who use particular versions of Microsoft's Visual Studio. IntelAble 2.0 adds support for: Adobe Flash (with Zinc), Java (any desktop IDE for Windows or Linux), Unity Pro, Runtime Revolution, C Plus Plus (for any Windows compiler like MingW, VC++ or Borland C++), and C Sharp (for any Windows compiler like MonoDevelop or Visual Studio). Now developers in any IDE can create apps for Intel's new AppUp Center.

Apple's App Store introduced a new distribution model for mobile apps, creating a single online store where developers could showcase their applications to millions of users. Because this model has proven so successful, many other mobile platforms such as, Microsoft, Google, RIM, and Palm have all adopted it. Intel opened its own online store earlier this year with their AppUp Center (Beta) for Windows.

The AppUp Center is a new method for marketing apps for Atom-based systems, including netbooks, slates, and tablets. With a wide variety of applications, easily available through a user-friendly app store, the AppUp Center serves to bridge the netbook user experience between smartphones and notebooks.

For small and medium sized developers this is a great opportunity. If they have a Windows application already developed, the risk associated with the few steps necessary to convert it for the AppUp Center is offset by the millions of potential customers reached, and the healthy 70% revenue share offered by Intel. The first step is to register in the Atom Developer Program, become familiar with it, and download the Software Development Kit.

Feature Highlights:
IntelAble 2.0 - Atom-compatible library for alternative IDEs Free trial download includes sample project Convert a Windows app to communicate with the Atom AppUp Center Join the App Store revolution by selling apps on the new Intel AppUp Center Additional Atom-compatible libraries under development

For developers working in Flash, Java, or other development environments not supported by Intel's SDK, IntelAble is the solution. Now it's possible to convert already developed Windows applications for devices running the Atom processor. The following IntelAble 2.0 versions are available now, and sold separately: Unity Pro, Runtime Revolution, Adobe Flash, Java, C++ and C#.

"Apple is responsible for creating the App Store revolution," stated baKno President Andres Martinez. "Now that the Windows community is catching up, it is important that no mobile app be excluded because it was developed in Flash, Java, or some other environment not supported by the Intel Atom SDK. IntelAble 2.0 can enable developers working in nearly all development environments."

Andres discussed the genesis of IntelAble, "At baKno we created this solution supported by Intel's engineering, and initially it was developed just for our own applications. We submitted 8 games to the store and all 8 have been accepted already. Obviously we are betting on the success of this store. And we want to ease the way to any other developer who wants to take the same bet."

System Requirements:
Windows computer suitable for development Intel Atom SDK Alternative IDE

Pricing and Availability:
IntelAble 2.0 is normally priced at $200 (USD) for each IDE. All versions are currently available directly from baKno at $100, a 50% discount. Free, trial copies are available for download.

The Mayo Clinic Now Recommends Every First Aid Kit Should Contain a Save-A-Tooth® System

The Mayo Clinic Now Recommends Every First Aid Kit Should Contain a Save-A-Tooth® System

Knocked out teeth can be saved for life but must be stored in a Save-A-Tooth system within the first hour of the accident. That’s why they should be a part of every first aid kit.

Wayne, PA (PRWEB) December 5, 2010

The Mayo Clinic advises that a well-stocked first aid kit can help people respond effectively to common injuries and emergencies. They feel that people should keep at least one first-aid kit at home and one in their car. Among many other items in the kit, the Mayo Clinic recommends including a Save-A-Tooth emergency tooth preserving system – the only first aid device that can store and preserve knocked out teeth for 24 hours, long enough so that the teeth can be reimplanted by a dentist. Basic first aid kits containing Save-A-Tooth’s are available on Amazon. com. (*To see a complete listing of what the Mayo Clinic recommends, go to http://www. mayoclinic. com/health/first-aid-kits/FA00067).

The importance of having a Save-A-Tooth in every first aid kit is that once a tooth is knocked out, there is a very small window of time, 15 minutes to one hour, in which it can be saved. “The cells on the root of a knocked out tooth are very delicate,” says Dr. Henry Rankow, diplomate of the American Board of Endodontics. “They must be protected and nourished during the first hour while they are out of their socket. Only special devices can do that and they must be available immediately.”

Over five million teeth are knocked out annually in the United States during sports, automobile accidents, and in the home. With the use of Save-A-Tooth, the only ADA-accepted, FDA-approved storage device, over 90 percent, or 4.5 million, of these teeth may be able to be successfully reimplanted. Without this system, only 10 percent of knocked out teeth can be successfully reimplanted since they begin to die within 15 minutes. A knocked out tooth that can’t be successfully reimplanted translates into an average expense of $3,000 in treatment and up to $30,000 over a lifetime.

Once knocked out teeth are placed into a Save-A-Tooth, however, they are safe and protected from harm during transport to the emergency room or dentist’s office. A parent or ambulance driver can attend to a suffering accident victim without having to worry about the knocked out tooth. In fact, once placed in a Save-A-Tooth, knocked out teeth are safe for 24 hours and can then be reimplanted.

“Being informed and prepared for a tooth being knocked out can mean the difference between gigantic bills leading to a lifetime of dental problems and a relatively straightforward re-implantation by a dentist or oral surgeon,” says Dr. Paul Krasner, clinical professor of endodontics at Temple University School of Dentistry. “Millions of teeth are knocked out every year that could be saved if the right equipment were available when an accident occurs,” he adds.

The Save-A-Tooth system is also used as the transportation device for Store-A-ToothTM, the leading dental stem cell cryopreservation service (http://www. store-a-tooth. com). With Store-A-Tooth, patients can save their own stem cells from normally shedding baby teeth and extracted wisdom teeth. The teeth are collected by a dentist and transported to a laboratory that extracts the dental stem cells and cryopreserves them for future medical and dental applications, in a similar fashion to umbilical cord blood banking. Whereas cord blood has been used to treat leukemia and other blood related diseases, dental stem cells are being studied to help treat conditions such as diabetes and spinal cord injury.

“We chose the Save-A-Tooth system for our tooth transport kit because it was the only device accepted by the American Dental Association,” says Dr. Peter Verlander, chief scientific officer of Provia Laboratories. “It has been the standard of care for transporting teeth for over 20 years. To ensure we offer the highest quality service, we felt that Save-A-Tooth was our clear choice.”

Placing a Save-A-Tooth in every first aid kit is a necessity rather than a luxury. Since knocked out teeth begin to die after 15 minutes, there is no time to save the tooth unless you have a kit sitting on the shelf. The stated purpose of first aid kits is to ‘preserve life, prevent further harm, and promote recovery.’ All of the contents of a complete first aid kit, including Save-A-Tooth, fulfill this mission.

Food and Addiction Symposium on Friday, Feb. 19

Food and Addiction Symposium on Friday, Feb. 19

UCSF is sponsoring a one-day symposium for the Bay Area research community to bring awareness to the problem of how certain foods can cause an addictive-like state in the brain and are a hidden cause behind the nation's obesity epidemic.

(Vocus) February 17, 2010

UCSF is sponsoring a one-day symposium for the Bay Area research community to bring awareness to the problem of how certain foods can cause an addictive-like state in the brain and are a hidden cause behind the nation's obesity epidemic.

This is one of the first scientific conferences to focus on the topic of food addiction, focusing on environmental, psychological and biological factors at the root of this addiction. Topics will include how our food environment has changed, binge eating, sugar addiction, treating compulsive eating through "emotional brain training,'' and through mindfulness.

Food addiction is the term to describe a compulsive, excessive craving for and consumption of food.

Where: Chancellor's Room

San Francisco

Featured Speakers:
Kelly Brownell, PhD – keynote speaker -- Dept. of Psychology, Yale University. Named one of Time Magazine's “most interesting people of the year,” Brownell is the founder of the Rudd Center for Food Policy and Obesity that is partly responsible for many important new changes in food policy in several states. Nicole Avena, PhD -- Princeton University. Mary Boggiano, PhD -- Dept. of Psychology, University of Alabama at Birmingham. Laurel Mellin, MA, RD -- Dept. of Family and Community Medicine, UCSF. Susana Hennessey Lavery, MPH -- health educator, San Francisco Department of Public Health. A panel of researchers involved in cutting edge treatment of obesity, nutritional sciences and biological mechanisms will discuss current research. Presentations will be available for viewing at http://www. chc. ucsf. edu/coast/ (http://www. chc. ucsf. edu/coast/) and UCTV at a future date.

Goal of the Symposium:
"Our goal is to increase awareness of this invisible but pervasive problem, to inform research, clinical treatments, and policy initiatives. The conference will increase our understanding of the neurobiology of eating and how our current food environment hijacks our brain's control center, causing chronic overeating or even binge eating,'' said Elissa S. Epel, PhD, associate professor in the UCSF Department of Psychiatry and co-director of COAST. She is an expert on the impact of stress physiology on food intake, obesity, and cell aging.

Barbara Laraia, assistant professor in the Department of Medicine and co-director of COAST, says "More than 15 percent of US households struggle with food insecurity-- not having enough food or enough of the right food, because the family doesn't have enough money. We know food insecurity drives dependence on highly palatable but calorically-dense nutrient-empty foods, which leads to excessive weight gain in adults, especially in pregnant women."

Background on COAST:
The UCSF Center for Obesity, Assessment Study and Treatment (COAST) was established as part of the Center for Health and Community in 2004 in response to rising rates of obesity. Its mission is to reduce the prevalence and adverse consequences of obesity by studying the mechanisms through which stress influences obesity and to develop effective interventions. It is the only obesity center to focus on stress, which is an invisible but powerful influence on our nation's eating habits and waistlines.

COAST is launching several new research initiatives that offer promising treatment options for weight loss using the science of stress, nutrition and lifestyle changes. One study is testing a novel intervention for healthy weight gain during pregnancy in low income women. For more information contact Marin Thompson at 415-476-6028.

COAST and the UCSF Osher Center for Integrative Medicine are seeking overweight adults (BMI 30-45) to participate in a study featuring a novel six-month weight loss program aimed at helping people make healthy diet and exercise lifestyle changes. Members of the public interested in participating should call 415-353-9723.

More information: For more information on the symposium, visit the events page at www. chc. ucsf. edu/coast/ (http://www. chc. ucsf. edu/coast/ )

Media Contact: Media interested in attending should contact Elizabeth Fernandez in the UCSF News Office at 415-476-2557

About UCSF: UCSF is a leading university dedicated to promoting health worldwide through advanced biomedical research, graduate-level education in the life sciences and health professions, and excellence in patient care.

Happy Tails Dog Spa™ Signs Fifth Franchise; First Franchise in Texas

Happy Tails Dog Spa™ Signs Fifth Franchise; First Franchise in Texas

Dog day care and spa to open in Houston.

Tysons Corner, VA (PRWEB) October 22, 2005

Happy to be Here, Inc., the franchise company of Happy Tails Dog Spa™, today signed its fifth franchise agreement with Don Puryear, who plans to open his own dog daycare center this winter in Houston, TX.

Puryear, a franchise broker, attorney and entrepreneur, first learned about Happy Tails Dog Spa™ franchise opportunities when he was researching dog day care services in Harris County, TX to send his two dogs.

“As a franchise broker, I was amazed when I found such a unique franchise opportunity as Happy Tails Dog Spa™,” Puryear said. “I saw its corporate values, its dedication to quality care and the staff’s deep love for dogs. It wasn’t long after that I decided I wanted to share this great opportunity with other Houston-area dog lovers.”

Julie Dow, currently an employee at Puryear’s court reporting agency, has been named the franchise’s general manager and will oversee the day-to-day operations of the spa. Dow has been in the industry for almost 20 years as a pet health product representative, a veterinary assistant, a dog-sitter and a groomer.

Puryear lives in Houston with his two, two-year-old Yorkshire Terriers, Spike and Daisy. Dow also lives in Houston with her three dogs: Flash, a 13-year-old mixed Bullmastiff, Putney, an 11-year-old Rat Terrier and Zasha, a two-year-old Great Pyrenees.

Amy Nichols, CEO and president, Happy to Be Here, Inc., said it is a pleasure to have signed the company’s first franchise agreement in The Lonestar State and its fifth franchise this year. Nichols added she is especially pleased Puryear and Dow share her passion for pet care and have the business acumen to run a successful company.

“We are excited to have signed our first franchise agreement in Texas where dog day care is ever-popular and the pet care market is thriving right now,” Nichols said. “Because of Don’s and Julie’s deep love for dogs and their combined business savvy, they are a natural fit with our other franchisees.”

Nichols also noted she looks forward to working with Puryear to eventually open multiple franchises in the Greater Houston area. It is expected the dog daycare center will open in early-2006.

Happy Tails Dog Spa™ is a place where pets are valued as family -- where dogs enjoy endless playtime and spa treatments in a positive environment. Dog owners have the assurance of leaving their beloved pets in the hands of trained professionals. The Happy Tails Dog Spa™ staff willingly nurtures each pet with attention and love.

Happy Tails offers a variety of fun activities, sociable training and comfortable boarding for dogs of all ages, shapes, sizes, abilities and temperaments.

“What makes Happy Tails Dog Spa™ so different is our ability to provide dogs with a fun and positive experience,” Nichols said. “Owners no longer have to feel guilty when they have to travel for work or when they go on vacation because they know their dog loves it here.”

Nichols offers franchisees a solid business support system, with step-by-step guidelines to operate a successful Happy Tails. Company officials will guide franchisees through every phase of opening a Happy Tails, from site selection, to the layout of the facility to an unparalleled training program, both on-site and at corporate headquarters in Tysons Corner.

Nichols said it is now a golden era for the pet care industry, noting the number of dog owners in the United States has swelled to nearly 50 million. There are more people than pets -- 378 million pets versus 280 million people, she said.

“Pet spending has dramatically increased over the last decade, and there is no end in sight,” she said. “Last year, total pet expenditure reached an astronomical $34.3 billion. More and more dog owners are providing their family pets with the kind of care they would give their own children.”

The Aspen Summit Group Is Now Strategic Reseller of CoDEology

The Aspen Summit Group, a healthcare consulting firm that offers a wide array of advisory, project management and IT implementation services for healthcare business and clinical systems, announced today they will be strategic resellers of the CoDEology training system developed by eDippides.

Northville, MI (PRWEB) May 20, 2010

The Aspen Summit Group (www. aspensummitgroup. com), a healthcare consulting firm that offers a wide array of advisory, project management and IT implementation services for healthcare business and clinical systems, announced today they will be strategic resellers of the CoDEologyÔ training system developed by eDippides.

The CoDEology training system was created after years of field research by coding specialists and a physician, who wanted to spend more time with his patients, but also wanted to receive the full amount of reimbursements due him. Doctors understand the importance of effective and accurate billing, while keeping in mind their first priority is diagnosing, treating and following-up on patients.

“We are very pleased that The Aspen Summit Group is selling our CoDEology training system; they have extensive experience with healthcare and revenue cycle enhancement solutions and understand the importance for physicians to be compliant and maximize their reimbursements,” commented Scott Pollack, Vice President of Operations, at eDippides.

“The CoDEology training system is an excellent way for physicians to improve their compliance and enhance their revenue streams in a very short timeframe. The ROI is almost immediate and the initial investment is quite low,” explained Andy Vassallo, Managing Partner at The Aspen Summit Group.

The CoDEology training is delivered online; it is engaging, simple, effective and convenient. Doctors and other medical professionals can learn at their own pace, and the small investment required by the system in time and money is returned almost immediately and many times over. Practices that have completed the nine-module course have seen their billable revenues increase up to 18% or more. Of even greater importance, CoDEology also helps ensure doctors remain in full compliance with coding regulations issued by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

The CoEDology training system can be used by any medical professional organization large or small (i. e. entire hospital networks, individual hospitals, practices, clinics, and individual users). Coding departments can also utilize CoDEology as a way to enhance the overall process of educating doctors with the intent of more productive and accurate coding.

About eDippides
EDippides is committed to creating and delivering easy to use tools that make physicians’ work easier, so they can spend less time on administrative tasks and more time on patient care. The CoDEology training system was produced after years of research and field testing. The training takes an engaging and fun approach that helps simplify an otherwise burdensome topic.

Syntex to Host Operational Risk Management Seminar at Turner Field Learning Best Practices from Industry Leaders

Syntex Management Systems, Inc., a provider of Enterprise Risk Management software solutions, is pleased to be hosting the Second in a Series of the Operational Risk Preferred Practice Seminars on May 1st at Turner Field in Atlanta, Georgia. These events bring together industry leaders who are focused on implementing incident management, proactive assessment programs and operational management system initiatives intended to reduce their overall exposure to risk. The objective of these various Preferred Practice Seminars is to share best practices in the management of operational, regulatory compliance, environmental, safety, quality and security risk.

Houston, TX (PRWEB) April 30, 2007

Syntex Management Systems, Inc., a provider of Enterprise Risk Management software solutions, is pleased to be hosting the Second in a Series of the Operational Risk Preferred Practice Seminars on May 1st at Turner Field in Atlanta, Georgia. The first seminar held earlier this month in Houston, Texas was received with an overwhelming response.

Additionally, these seminars speak to the evolutionary process that progressive companies use to move their organizations towards achieving enterprise-wide risk management and operational excellence.

During this upcoming seminar, Unocal will share their "real life" experiences and insight concerning the implementation and continuous improvement of operational risk programs. Business leaders have improved their risk management performance through the integration of many different operational processes such as incident management, corporate assurance, and proactive assessments into a single common platform for strengthening risk mitigation competence and effectively enabling Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) within their organizations. In addition, Lexicon Systems, LLC will set the stage for Enterprise Risk Framework covering the characteristics of a fully featured software solution.

"We're pleased to provide a forum for companies to share how they've implemented a common set of repeatable processes, procedures, and software solutions that can be applied across all operational risks in a business. Implementing an assurance and compliance framework that can readily change with the company as it grows and evolves is vital to creating measurable benefits. The fact that all companies have risk management processes at various stages of maturity means that an effective risk management framework must support the simplest of data capture needs in one operational risk area, while supporting the most sophisticated stage-gate workflow processes in another. It is rapidly becoming mandatory from compliance and regulatory perspective to have a single common repository of risk management processes and findings to ensure you can prioritize the allocation of resources to those risk exposures weighted by their potential severity and potential frequency," said Trent Derr, President & CEO, Syntex Management Systems, Inc.

The agenda for May 1st will include the following sessions along with roundtable discussions:
"Implementing Centralized Corporate-Wide HSE Programs in a Decentralized "Autonomous Management" Culture";
"EHS Risk Management: The New Imperative";
"Establishing a Platform for Managing Enterprise Risks".

Seminar attendees will hear how these leaders are:
Improved Operational Performance through integration of proactive and reactive processes  Applied risk-based prioritization to electronic action item management  Improved the efficiency and effectiveness of operational initiatives  Executed repeatable processes for risk identification and measurement  Enables a culture of open risk communication  Manage organizational exposures in a single coordinated framework

These informative sessions are presented in a half-day format with a networking event immediately following. If you would like to learn how Syntex Management Systems can enable your organization's governance, risk and performance improvement programs, please visit us at http://www. syntexsolutions. com (http://www. syntexsolutions. com) to view the upcoming seminars schedule.

Health Reform Projects Operational Since 2000 Have Aimed to Improve the Quality Of and Access to Healthcare in Bulgaria

Health Reform Projects Operational Since 2000 Have Aimed to Improve the Quality Of and Access to Healthcare in Bulgaria

Dublin - Research and Markets (http://www. researchandmarkets. com/reports/c42120) has announced the addition of the new report from Espicom Business Intelligence “The Medical Device Market: Bulgaria” to their offering.

(PRWEB) September 18, 2006

Dublin - Research and Markets (http://www. researchandmarkets. com/reports/c42120 (http://www. researchandmarkets. com/reports/c42120)) has announced the addition of the new report from Espicom Business Intelligence “The Medical Device Market: Bulgaria” to their offering.

Our in-depth medical device market reports are ideal for executives wanting to understand the key drivers in medical markets and have access to a wealth of statistical data. Each report opens with an outlook section that provides analysis of the market, 5-year market forecasts, national data projections, market outlook and key developments such as regulation, health facilities and government policy.

The report also provides extensive background information, population trends, health status, health expenditure, organisation & administration, hospital services, medical personnel, healthcare development, market access information, trade data and essential industry contacts. Included with the report are 3 free quarterly updated outlook reports, enabling you to keep up to date with market developments for a year.

Along with Romania, Bulgaria represents one of the least developed European countries of the former Soviet bloc. However, the economy has been subject to ongoing reform since 1997, due to the transfer of power from the Communist Party to more reform-minded governments. The prospect of EU membership in 2007 has driven more recent economic reforms.

As with national policy, the healthcare system did not improve until the election of a more democratic government in 1997. Health reform projects operational since 2000 have aimed to improve the quality of and access to healthcare and place more emphasis on primary care. National health insurance was introduced in 2000. Although reforms have been well co-ordinated, progress has been hampered by financial problems and outdated information systems.

The huge demand for new medical equipment is not mirrored by the healthcare facilities’ ability to pay for it. Hospitals still have large outstanding debts and the government is frequently required to heavily subsidise them. Medical devices are sourced largely from outside Bulgaria as domestic production is minimal.

2004 OSHA Outlook for Small Business: More Workplace Injuries, New Mandatory Forms

2004 OSHA Outlook for Small Business: More Workplace Injuries, New Mandatory Forms

Workplace safety and labor law experts at G. Neil Corp. advise U. S. small businesses to make sure they are using the legally correct OSHA forms for recording them. New mandatory OSHA forms were required as of January 1, 2004.

Sunrise, FL (PRWEB) February 6, 2004

OSHA Outlook for Small Business:

More Workplace Injuries, New Mandatory Forms

Workplace safety and labor law experts at G. Neil Corp. advise U. S. small businesses to expect more employee injuries in 2004, and to make sure they are using the legally correct OSHA forms for recording them.

Smaller firms must be prepared, says Christopher Lindekugel, G. NeilÂ’s compliance director, or run the risk of OSHA fines, employee medical bills and workersÂ’ compensation costs.

“When workers are well-trained and know what they’re doing, the injury rate is lower because their knowledge and experience reduce the risk of danger,” he explained. “As the economy grows, there will be more and more people performing unfamiliar jobs, so the risk of accidents and injuries will be much greater.”

OSHA Says ‘Serious’ Violations Up

OSHA requires firms with 11 or more employees (except those in certain low-risk industries such as finance and real estate) to maintain a log and summary of all “recordable” work-related injuries and illnesses.

In 2003, OSHA cited U. S. employers for 83,760 safety and health violations, Lindekugel said, an increase of almost 8 percent from 2002. Almost 60,000 of the violations were “serious,” an increase of 11 percent from 2002.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that U. S. workers missed 1.46 million days of productive time because of on-the-job injuries in 2001,he added. Multiply that by the National Safety CouncilÂ’s estimated cost to an employer of $29,000 per incident, and the total for the year is almost $70 billion.

New Mandatory OSHA Form

Lindekugel also pointed out that covered employers need to make sure they’re using the proper documentation to record workplace incidents, because “businesses that don’t follow the regs can be subject to citations and fines.”

OSHAÂ’s Form 300, a daily log of workplace injuries and illnesses for a calendar year, had several revisions including a new column covering hearing loss. Additionally, the posting dates for the 2004 Form 300A were extended for two more months.

G. Neil, which has specialized in labor law and safety products for more than 15 years, produces an exclusive OSHA Recordkeeping System to help business owners and managers comply with OSHA regulations. It also offers OSHA guidebooks, software, tip sheets, safety training tools, and related products via catalog or on its website, www. gneil. com.

“As experts in workplace compliance and safety, we are constantly monitoring OSHA and other federal agencies to make updates to our products,” Lindekugel said. “We know you can’t be careless about OSHA and workplace safety. We’re a business with employees, too.”

Based in suburban Fort Lauderdale, Fla., privately held G. Neil Corp. develops and markets more than 7,000 “tools to manage and motivate people” to more than 1 million customers worldwide. It specializes in products that keep employers out of court, along with HR forms and software, pre-employment and substance testing, workplace safety solutions, and employee motivation products.

Memorial Hermann is using e-Builder Enterprise 7 to execute over $500 Million in capital projects. e-Builder's integrated cost, schedule, workflow, document management and reporting capabilities are reducing overall project costs and eliminating overruns.

By consolidating 4 disparate systems with duplicate data into e-Builder, Memorial Hermann was able to reduce the effort required to collect and enter information while at the same time providing Memorial Hermann's project management and facility services teams with easy access to uniform, accurate, and timely data. The Memorial Hermann team now has easy access to more timely and accurate information shortening the decision approval process. For example, the vendor payment approval process has been reduced from 2 weeks to 2 days on average, eliminating late fees and improving vendor relations.

Memorial Hermann took advantage of the unique deployment capabilities of e-Builder Enterprise 7. The system was deployed in modules in accordance with e-Builder's proprietary process so that it was up and running, generating a return on investment in less than 3 months. NuGo Nutrition Products are Safe to Eat - Expanded Recall Does Not Affect NuGo

NuGo Nutrition Products are Safe to Eat - Expanded Recall Does Not Affect NuGo

Nugo Nutrition Products Are Safe to Eat

Pittsburgh, PA (PRWEB) February 1, 2009

As the peanut butter recall expands, NuGo is issuing a re-confirmation that all NuGo manufactured products are still safe to eat. We do not purchase anything from the Peanut Corporation of America or their affiliated brands. Our standard operating procedure is to test every production batch for any microbiologic presence including that of salmonella bacteria. We are shocked some major food companies have ceased these testing procedures which we consider mandatory. As an independent company, we always stand behind our quality and we are proud to meet or exceed FDA, USDA, Kosher, and/or Gluten Free guidelines.

Company president David Levine ensures people that, "As an independent food company, we invest our time and money into testing every lot of product to ensure its high quality and safety. NuGo is safe to eat." Levine continues by telling consumers to check manufacturer's websites or call their toll free numbers: "There are great food companies like NuGo who have never purchased from PCA and who remain unaffected by this recall. This is an unconscionable act of negligence by one company (PCA) and is not in any way representative of NuGo's safety and health practices."

About NuGo Nutrition

At NuGo, our mission is to help people make better snack choices that are healthy, delicious and contain all natural or organic ingredients. Simply put, we're disappointed in the food industry, as they've become careless with the products they sell to consumers. At NuGo, we're different. We never use hydrogenated oils or trans-fats in our products. We use only all natural, top quality ingredients, like real milk and dark chocolate to make our bars the best tasting, healthiest options available. Partnership to Fight Cancer: CTSciNet and The Damon Runyon Cancer Research Foundation

Partnership to Fight Cancer: CTSciNet and The Damon Runyon Cancer Research Foundation

To help develop more collaboration among cancer researchers and translational scientists, the Damon Runyon Cancer Research Foundation has partnered with the clinical and translational online community CTSciNet. This new partnership complements Damon Runyon’s goal of accelerating the translation of discoveries into new tools in the fight to end cancer. Translating laboratory research into clinical medicine is also the goal of the social-networking site CTSciNet, the Clinical and Translational Science Network.

Washington, DC (PRWEB) February 23, 2010

Launched on October 20th by Science Careers (http://sciencecareers. sciencemag. org/), AAAS's career development portal, CTSciNet (http://community. sciencecareers. org/ctscinet/) is an online community for people pursuing careers in clinical and translational research. CTSciNet aims to encourage and support scientists and trainees who wish to become a part of the clinical and translational research community. AAAS developed the site in partnership with several other scientific societies (http://community. sciencecareers. org/ctscinet/partners/), now including Damon Runyon. CTSciNet is funded by a generous grant from the Burroughs Wellcome Fund (http://www. bwfund. org/), a long-time supporter of Science Careers.

The Damon Runyon Cancer Research Foundation's (http://www. damonrunyon. org/) mission is to identify exceptional early career scientists and provide them with funding to pursue innovative cancer research. The Foundation supports the rising stars of science, emerging leaders who have great potential to achieve breakthroughs in how we diagnose, treat and prevent cancer.

The Foundation offers three prestigious awards (http://www. damonrunyon. org/for_scientists/categories/category/awards/):
The Damon Runyon Clinical Investigator Award supports physician-scientists dedicated to translating cancer research into new tools and treatment for cancer patients.  The Damon Runyon Fellowship Award gives young scientists funding to enhance their cancer research skills, develop independence and explore novel ideas.  The Damon Runyon-Rachleff Innovation Award funds “high-risk, high-reward” cancer research that has great potential but lacks the preliminary data needed to obtain traditional funding.

CTSciNet wants to show early career scientists how they can contribute to the solution of one of the most important scientific challenges of our lifetimes: how to efficiently translate scientific breakthroughs into practical therapies for human disease. CTSciNet’s collaborative tools will enable Damon Runyon’s researchers to seek collaborators for their important research. CTSciNet’s current groups (http://community. sciencecareers. org/ctscinet/groups/) range from breast cancer research (http://community. sciencecareers. org/ctscinet/groups/breast_cancer_research/) to clinical trials (http://community. sciencecareers. org/ctscinet/groups/clinical_trials/). Researchers can engage in meaningful discussion and form connections with other researchers while they explore CTSciNet’s extensive and growing library of career advice (http://community. sciencecareers. org/ctscinet/articles/).

Other CTSciNet partners include the Association of American Medical Colleges; the American Federation for Medical Research; the American Physician Scientist Association; the American Society for Clinical Investigation; the Association for Clinical Research Training; the Burroughs Wellcome Fund; the Clinical Research Forum; the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation; the Health Research Alliance; the Howard Hughes Medical Institute; Science Translational Medicine; and the Society for Clinical and Translational Science.

Lumie Turns its Nose Up to Hayfever with New Treatment

Lumie Turns its Nose Up to Hayfever with New Treatment

Lumie, a British company with over 18 years experience in light therapy has launched Lumie Haylight, a new medical device that is proven to provide safe, fast-acting relief to hay fever sufferers.

(PRWeb UK) July 6, 2010

Undoubtedly one of the few irritating things about summer is hay fever; it causes nuisance to approximately 20 per cent of the UK population and affects everyone from young children to the elderly. Lumie, a British company with over 18 years experience in light therapy has launched Lumie Haylight, a new medical device that is proven to provide safe, fast-acting relief to hay fever sufferers.

New Lumie Haylight is an all-in-one alternative treatment to eye drops, nasal sprays and antihistamines. Using two intranasal tubes, it emits two types of red light directly on to the membranes inside the nose which immediately reduce histamine production. Based on scientific research, Lumie Haylight works in minutes to ease streaming noses, sneezing and irritable eyes.

Hay fever (or seasonal allergic rhinitis) is caused by allergens that are present in the air; in this case tiny particles of pollen. When the pollen comes into contact with the body, it can cause an allergic reaction to occur as the body believes it is under attack and overproduces a chemical called histamine. It is the histamine that triggers hay fever symptoms, causing people to suffer from sneezing, runny noses and irritable eyes.

Antihistamines have long been the most popular form of treatment for hay fever, but this arguably has been due to the lack of suitable alternatives. Many allergy medications can have nasty side effects, including drowsiness. The inconvenience caused by such treatments was evident in a recent case study: "Symptomatic allergic rhinitis and rhinitis medication use are associated with a significantly increased risk of unexpectedly dropping a grade in summer examinations" . Other methods of fighting allergic rhinitis include steroids and decongestants, but the former often lead to rebound nasal congestion and the latter need to be taken for several weeks to achieve any sort of result.

It is only very recent research that has demonstrated light therapy as being effective in treating allergic conditions. Intranasal therapy of this kind, received from a device which emits red light, has shown extremely positive results in treating those that suffer from hay fever – even those that do not respond at all to antihistamines.

Jonathan Cridland, CEO of Lumie, said: “The application of light therapy for health and wellbeing has grown considerably of recent years and we hope that products like Lumie Haylight can provide people the freedom to enjoy their summer again, rather than hide away behind closed doors.

“Another tool that can help people cope through the hay fever season is the pollen forecast. Updated three times a day, forecasts can be found on the Met Office website at www. metoffice. gov. uk, to help everyone to stay informed of the expected conditions outside.

“Lumie remains specialised in high quality light based treatments that offer consumers an alternative to taking medications, which can cause problematic side effects.“

Business Intelligence Provider Hoover’s Releases Latest Edition of “The Hoover’s 100” List of the Top 100 Companies Most Searched on its Site

Hoover’s today announced the latest edition of “The Hoover’s 100,” a monthly list of the companies most searched on Hoover’s Web site (http://www. hoovers. com). Derived by tracking the search requests of Hoover’s subscribers, The Hoover’s 100 company list provides insight on which companies are being watched most closely by corporate executives, as well as sales, marketing, and business development professionals, who represent a large portion of Hoover’s customers seeking business intelligence.

Austin, TX (PRWEB) August 4, 2006 –-

Hoover's, Inc. today announced the latest edition of “The Hoover’s 100” (http://www. hoovers. com/global/hoov/index. xhtml? pageid=15370&cm_ven=HOT&cm_cat=Free&cm_pla=Landing_Page&cm_ite=Landing_Page), a monthly list of the companies most searched on the company’s Web site (http://www. hoovers. com (http://www. hoovers. com))]. This month, Hoover’s also launched the “Hoover’s Leadership 100” (http://www. hoovers. com/global/hoov/index. xhtml? pageid=15460&cm_ven=HOT&cm_cat=Free&cm_pla=Leadership&cm_ite=Leadership), a corresponding monthly list that highlights the biographies, company affiliations and salaries for the leaders of the most-searched companies. Hoover’s is the leading provider of proprietary business insight to U. S. businesses.

Derived by tracking the search requests of Hoover’s subscribers, The Hoover’s 100 provides insight about those companies being most closely watched by corporate executives, as well as sales, marketing, and business development professionals, who represent a large portion of Hoover’s customers seeking business intelligence (http://www. hoovers. com/global/hoov/index. xhtml? pageid=15370&cm_ven=HOT&cm_cat=Free&cm_pla=Landing_Page&cm_ite=Landing_Page).

“The big movers on this month’s list represent a collection of some of the world’s best-known consumer brands,” said Tim Walker, Hoover’s industry analyst. “Estée Lauder jumped more than 60 spots to break onto the list, while Altria Group jumped almost 50 spots. Marriott International and Kroger also climbed dozens of spots. The news behind the biggest movers ranged from restructuring and leadership changes to anti-smoking policies and high-profile partnerships.”

The Estée Lauder Companies Inc. (http://www. hoovers. com/est%C3%A9e-lauder/--ID__40148--/free-co-factsheet. xhtml) (From #146 to #83)

Tennis phenomenon Serena Williams kicked off a July media tour to launch her alliance with cosmetics empire Estée Lauder. She is collaborating on a line of cosmetics for Flirt!, a new Estée Lauder brand. The company also announced a settlement with the IRS in July that will lower its 2006 net earnings by about $46 million. This announcement coincided with news of a number of leadership shakeups, including a promotion for Jane Lauder, granddaughter of the company’s founder, who was appointed as senior vice president of global product marketing for the prominent Clinique brand.

Altria Group, Inc. (http://www. hoovers. com/altria/--ID__11179--/free-co-factsheet. xhtml) (From #136 to #87)

Altria Group (formerly Philip Morris Companies) is the world's largest tobacco firm and owns 87% of Kraft Foods, the world's #2 food company. In late June Irene Rosenfeld was appointed as Kraft’s CEO. The former chairman and CEO of Frito-Lay, Rosenfeld is known for her integration expertise, as well as for restructuring and turning around companies. At Kraft, she has already begun closing plants, cutting jobs and selling some businesses in advance of a possible spinoff of the company by Altria. Meanwhile, in July the Florida Supreme Court upheld a lower court's ruling that overturned a $145 billion award for punitive damages against Big Tobacco defendants, including Philip Morris. Some investors took the ruling as a signal of a reduced threat of tobacco-related class action lawsuits. The ruling gave Altria the green light to move ahead with its long-awaited Kraft spinoff, which could occur as early as August 2006. As if all of this weren’t news enough, Kraft also announced in July that it will sell its Minute Rice business to Spanish food company Ebro Puleva for about $280 million.

Marriott International, Inc. (http://www. hoovers. com/marriott/--ID__56078--/free-co-factsheet. xhtml) (From #131 to #93)

Marriott International announced in July that its hotels in the U. S. and Canada would be 100% smoke free starting in September 2006. This includes the company’s many well-known brands, including Marriott, JW Marriott, The Ritz Carlton, Renaissance, Courtyard, Residence Inn, SpringHill Suites, Fairfield Inn, TownePlace Suites and Marriott ExecuStay. All guestrooms, restaurants, lounges, meeting rooms, public areas and employee work areas in the company’s 2,300 hotels are to be deemed non-smoking areas. In July the company also announced that it is targeting Belfast as a location for one of its Courtyard hotels, the company’s largest brand.

The Kroger Co. (http://www. hoovers. com/kroger/--ID__10864--/free-co-factsheet. xhtml) (From #92 to #61)

Kroger, the nation’s #1 pure grocery chain, owes its significant jump within The Hoover’s 100 to a number of July announcements. The company will start offering corn-based ethanol E85 fuels at its gas stations starting in August, with plans for all stations to have the fuel by the end of 2007. Kroger also announced it will open a number of new Marketplace Stores, which have double the floorspace of standard stores and will allow the company to compete more directly with Wal-Mart’s large-scale Supercenters. Kroger is also adding to its private-label product portfolio through a partnership with Disney Consumer Products. The deal gives Kroger more than 100 Disney-branded healthy food items.
