Biocide Systems’ roomSHOCKER Chemical Deodorizer Makes for Fast and Odor Free Apartment Turns

Biocide Systems’ roomSHOCKER Chemical Deodorizer Makes for Fast and Odor Free Apartment Turns.

New Hi-Tech “Little White Pouch” removes smoke, paint, and new carpet odors from apartments in less than 24 hours and for as little as $25 per unit!

West Hills, CA (PRWEB) March 10, 2010

Biocide Systems is pleased to announce the first dual-function chemical deodorizer for the Apartment and Property Management industries – the roomSHOCKER Quick Release chemical deodorizer. The company recently completed tests with a large property management client where it significantly outperformed industry-standard ozone generator technology in removing cigarette smoke within 24 hours.

According to the National Toxicology Program, there are at least 250 poisonous gases, chemicals, and metals associated with cigarettes and third-hand smoke. Among the most hazardous are hydrogen cyanide, ammonia, toluene (found in paint thinners), arsenic, lead, chromium (used to make steel), cadmium (used to make batteries), and polonium-210 (highly radioactive carcinogen).

“This is really a dual-function product”, claims one of Biocide’s 30-unit property management customers, “It not only wipes out any residual smoke smell after we shampoo and clean, but when we repaint or replace carpet, it also reduces the ‘new’ smells that some of our renters complain about.”

While significant controversy still exists regarding the health risks of new carpeting, there are many people that are sensitive to the odors, mostly caused by what are known as Volatile Organic Chemicals or “VOCs”. Toxicologist Mark Goldman, a senior air-quality specialist for the insurance adjustment firm EFI, in an interview with the Boston Globe, was quoted as saying that 4 percent to 6 percent of the population estimated to be chemically sensitive are ''the canaries in the coal mine amongst us."

“Most people don’t realize that new paint and carpet, while they may greatly reduce the smoke odors, bring their own risks.”, states Biocide Systems CEO Juan Baselli. “That new carpet smell usually contains a mix of VOCs that can include: BHT (butylated hydroxytoluene), formaldehyde, 4-phenylcyclohexine (4-PC), and other nasties that often take weeks to ‘outgas’ from the new carpet or paint.”

Biocide’s roomSHOCKER is designed to chemically eliminate smoke smell and neutralize many of the volatile organic chemicals (VOCs) and free radicals that can pose a health hazard.

“Ozone generators aren’t much better.” Baselli adds, “If you check into what the EPA says about them, you’ll see that they probably make things worse when used to treat new carpet and paint odor.”

Biocide System’s roomSHOCKER is easy on maintenance and facility budgets, enabling property maintenance and cleaning teams to fully treat a typical apartment for as little as $50. And in addition to removing cigarette odors, it also kills mold, bacteria and microbes in the unit as well.

“Our property management clients love this product because they can save days in a turn by making a freshly painted and carpeted unit inhabitable within 24 hours.”, adds Biocide Systems VP of Product Technology, Spencer Blua.

Whether eliminating cigarette odors or removing apartment odors caused by mold, garbage, vomit, liquor, pet odors or musty smells, Biocide System’s roomSHOCKER gets the job done within hours. EPA Approved as a biological deodorizer, roomSHOCKER is a cost-effective and environmentally friendly way to quickly make your apartment unit ready for its new tenant.

Skincare-News. com Latest Guide: Top 10 Back-to-School Beauty Tips

Skincare-News. com Latest Guide: Top 10 Back-to-School Beauty Tips

Long gone are the lazy days of summer, and it’s time to prep hair and skin care regimens for going back to class. Achieve an A+ in back-to-school beauty with these 10 tips.

Rancho Cordova, CA (PRWEB) September 27, 2010

While shopping for school clothes, textbooks and dorm room essentials, don’t forget about a healthy beauty routine. From skin care on a shoestring to fall beauty trends, here’s a list of tips for looking great and staying healthy this school year with Skincare-News. com’s latest article, “10 Beauty-Boosting Tips for Going Back to School.”

1. Repair damaged locks. For most students, summer is packed with friends and fun, with little time set aside for serious hair care. For many, September brings lifeless, sun-damaged locks. To nurse hair back to health, try these strategies: Trim locks, rehydrate with a moisturizing shampoo, avoid over-styling with hot tools and don’t wash too often.

2. Discover beauty on a budget. Going back to school isn’t cheap. Pricey textbooks, tuition and basic supplies often leave little wiggle room in a student’s wallet to afford an updated arsenal of cosmetic, hair and skin care formulas. But students can work within their budgets.
Look for 2-in-1, multipurpose products that offer more bang for the buck. Also — while looking for affordable formulas — always inspect the label to make sure that the product contains ample amounts of the desired active ingredients and few fillers like water and alcohol.

3. Embrace a green beauty routine. Campuses across the globe are encouraging students to help preserve the planet. Embrace an eco-friendly beauty routine by looking for products that are made with all-natural or organic ingredients and packaged in recycled or sustainable materials.
Thankfully, organic products are no longer exclusive or expensive. A growing market of green goods includes formulas that are affordable, effective and specialized to meet every beauty demand.

Sustainable Sourcing Launches "Truth About Salt Campaign"

Sustainable Sourcing Launches "Truth About Salt Campaign"

Sustainable Sourcing LLC, the leader in sustainably sourced seasonings, has launched a campaign to demystify salt, the most widely used and misunderstood seasoning in America. Fear of salt has overshadowed the truth. Table salt is no more than industrial waste and sea salt is contaminated. Primordial salt provides a healthy alternative as it was created 250 million years ago when the world was still pristine. Primordial salt promotes our natural balance.

Great Barrington, MA (PRWEB) February 17, 2009

Great Barrington, MA -- Sustainable Sourcing LLC the leader in sustainably sourced seasonings, announces the launch of the "Truth About Salt Campaign" to demystify the most widely used and misunderstood seasoning in America.

"Our fear of salt has overshadowed the truth. We need to focus more on quality not quantity," said Melissa Kushi, the sustainable foods educator and social entrepreneur who founded Sustainable Sourcing LLC. "Common table salt is an industrial waste byproduct and sea salt comes from highly polluted oceans. Primordial Himalayan salt was made during a time of pristine environmental integrity, millions of years ago and has been protected in the remote Himalayas. It contains more than 80 essential trace elements and minerals required for wellbeing."

Table salt is an industrial waste byproduct stripped by chemical processing of these elements, except sodium and chloride. Aluminum derived Anti-caking and flow agents are added, but the FDA does not require their disclosure to consumers. Table salt comes from the same lots as vacuum-refined industrial salt and is treated with caustic soda or lime to remove all traces of magnesium salts, which are important for health.

Sea Salt comes from oceans that have become heavily polluted in our lifetime. Growing dead zones and the mix of mercury, heavy metals, and toxins from agricultural chemicals, industrial runoff, nuclear waste, raw sewage and more, have compromised all ocean life. Many of these have been treated and contain anti-caking agents too.

Kushi spent years bringing this salt to market under the brand name HimalaSalt. (www. himalasalt. com) . Pale pink crystals of HimalaSalt contain a full spectrum of whole essential minerals that support wellbeing and opens up the flavors of food.

"When a salt like HimalaSalt is ingested, the body knows what to do with the balance of minerals, which are easily assimilated," explained Kushi. "Unlike table salt or sea salt that has been heat treated, HimalaSalt does not compete for body fluids, it helps to regulate them. HimalaSalt has been known to lower blood pressure, decrease water retention, and supports the liver, kidneys and adrenals to work more efficiently. It also can boost the immune system."

"Since healthy blood mirrors the alkaline structure of the ancient ocean, and HimalaSalt is the ancient ocean in pure crystalline form, you have a healthier choice for your family," said Kushi. "By substituting HimalaSalt for common table or sea salt, you can obtain easily assimilated essential minerals and alkalize your body, which is baseline wellness."

Orlando, FL (PRWEB) August 6, 2008

CollaborateMD, a leading provider of Internet-based medical billing software (http://www. collaboratemd. com/) for physician offices, hospitalists and medical billing services, kicked-off its value-added reseller (VAR) program with ten participants. Though the program was originally designed to geographically expand sales, it is now projected to also increase product branding nationwide and enhance customer service by facilitating face-to-face communication between CollaborateMD users and knowledgeable software representatives.

Acceptance to the CollaborateMD VAR program is based on a variety of factors, such as sales and marketing strategy, industry experience, past performance, and customer base. The program is geographically restricted so as not to over-saturate the marketplace. Interested candidates should fill out the online application at shop. collaboratemd. com (http://shop. collaboratemd. com/cart/pages. php? pageid=2&mode=update).

Once a VAR application is approved, exclusive access to the CollaborateMD VAR shopping cart - a secure site for ordering customizable marketing and discounted promotional materials - is granted, and the VAR can immediately begin selling. Unlike many other VAR programs, CollaborateMD VARs can determine their own set-up and additional service fees, and are not restricted on either the type or size of the businesses to which they can sell. In addition to the medical billing software for which CollaborateMD is best known, VARs are able to sell EMR, lab, and custom interfaces; data conversions; the appointment scheduler; monthly package upgrades; and the UB04 module.

"It's one of the few to offer both up-front earnings and long-term recurring revenue. Plus, we offer a product that is in demand and affordably priced, making this a potentially great opportunity for the CollaborateMD VARs."

I Ate All the Foods I Love & Still Lost 30 lbs. in 4 Months!

I Ate All the Foods I Love & Still Lost 30 lbs. in 4 Months!

Author’s easy lifestyle change quickly produces weight loss and improved health

San Diego, CA (Vocus) November 10, 2010

Author Rich Stevens is proud to announce the release of his book The Easiest Diet in the World…And It Works! (published by AuthorHouse). With the desire to lose between five and 15 pounds and shed a few inches from his waistline, Stevens set out on a lifestyle change in 2007 that dramatically altered his weight, appearance and health. Within only four months of switching to a diet composed of organic foods only, Stevens lost 30 pounds, took four inches off his waist and dramatically improved his cholesterol, blood pressure and triglycerides. Astonished by his amazing results, Stevens’ friends encouraged him to share his weight-loss method.

"The reason why this diet works and will work for you as much as it worked for me is that it is not really a 'diet.' It is better termed a 'life-style.' And you can eat anything and everything you want: Just as long as you eat that food item in its certified organic form! You will not be missing any foods that you like. I love ice cream and I have ice cream every day…I eat cakes, cookies, candies, pasta, pizza, and potatoes. I eat all kinds of carbohydrates: starches and sugars. I do not keep track of the amount of calories or carbohydrates or fats I eat each day or meal."

In addition to explaining why this method of weight loss works and how people can achieve similar results, Stevens provides advice on where to buy organic foods, how to save money on purchases and what to eat when traveling. He discusses how his program is different than other diets and includes tools such as a progress chart, daily total program chart, weekly meal log, weekly walking log and weekly workout log to assist readers in making this lifestyle change.

Stevens’ book will motivate readers to follow his plan – eating only foods free of pesticides, chemical fertilizers, food coloring, genetic modifications, cloning, antibiotics, steroids, hormones, preservatives and additives – to realize their weight loss and personal health goals.

Two New Products from Helionova and Ultrasun

Two New Products from Helionova and Ultrasun

The introduction of a brand new lamp concept called the Sunfit Collagenic Lamp. With these Sunfit Collagenic lamps, rejuvenation is no longer a dream!

(PRWEB) May 16, 2010

Collagen, a human protein, is responsible for the tightness, elasticity and suppleness of the skin. Research has proven that during the course of the aging process, the skin loses the ability to rebuild collagen. As a consequence, fine lines and wrinkles appear.

The red light of the Collagenic lamps stops this aging process and helps the skin to increase its production of collagen and elastin. The result is a tight and firm skin with reduced lines, a younger appearance and a more healthier look! The Sunfit Collagenic is a 190 cm long, bi pin lamp, which provides red light at 663 nano-meters. It is scientifically proven that this light is beneficial to stop the aging process of the skin. The Collagenic was received at the Cosmoprof with a warm welcome by our Ultrasun partners, since many of them saw an interesting chance to enter the market with these new Collagenic lamps!

The Sunfit Collagenic lamps will fit into any Ultrasun tanning machine suited for 190cm length lamps. These lamps can, without changes, be placed in an Ultrasun Q5 and Ultrasun i7 Power Tower. For the other tanning machines in the product range, the Collagenic can be built-in as well, but before you start converting the machine, please get advice from our help line on 01603 789 010. The lamps have only just been on show at Cosmoprof.

Yet another novelty at the Cosmoprof! Ultrasun launched the prototype of its completely new Ultrasun SolarChair! Among the visitors of the Cosmoprof the SolarChair was tested and received with a warm welcome! But for everyone among you who was not able to visit us, this tanning machine has four high pressure 1500w facials for a perfectly tanned face and neck area. Therefore the SolarChair is excellent for use at a hairdressing studio, beauty salon or nail studio! The SolarChair is available in the colour Vivid Violet Metallic and is equipped with a comfortable leather chair which can changed into different positions.

If you have any questions about this new tanning machine or when you want to receive more information, you can at all times contact Helionova on 01603 789 010 or e-mail us at sales(at)helionova(dot)co(dot)uk

Calvert Research Licenses Novel Technology to Treat Age Related Macular Degeneration from Tulane University

Calvert Research Licenses Novel Technology to Treat Age Related Macular Degeneration from Tulane University

Calvert Research, LLC (a unit of Calvert Holdings, Inc.) today announced the execution of a license agreement with Tulane University granting Calvert Research (through its wholly owned subsidiary, Calvert T1, LLC) certain rights to issued patents and patent applications covering a technology platform and novel compounds which have the potential to treat a debilitating eye disease known as Age-related Macular Degeneration (AMD).

Cary, NC (PRWEB) June 10, 2009

Calvert Research, LLC (a unit of Calvert Holdings, Inc.) today announced the execution of a license agreement with Tulane University granting Calvert Research (through its wholly owned subsidiary, Calvert T1, LLC) certain rights to issued patents and patent applications covering a technology platform and novel compounds which have the potential to treat a debilitating eye disease known as Age-related Macular Degeneration (AMD). The patented compounds and technology licensed by Calvert T1 were developed in the laboratory of Dr. David H. Coy and his team at the Peptide Research Laboratory at Tulane University.

AMD is a leading cause of blindness in the elderly, affecting millions worldwide and results from the progressive deterioration of the macula, which are the light-sensitive cells of the central retina at the back of the eye. AMD is characterized by two types: a dry (atrophic) and wet (exudative) form. Wet AMD occurs when abnormal blood vessels behind the retina begin to grow under the macula, often leaking blood and fluid that can lead to visual distortions, a decrease or loss of central vision, and eventual blindness.

The preclinical stage compounds licensed by Calvert T1 combine the known anti-proliferative effects of a somatostatin peptide analog with a cytotoxic drug chemically linked to the peptide, resulting in a dual mechanism drug candidate designed to specifically target and kill abnormal blood vessels found in wet AMD patients.

The lead compound from this technology platform has shown activity in an animal model of AMD. Calvert T1 intends to advance it further through additional preclinical studies using its network of preferred pharmaceutical development service providers including Calvert Laboratories, Inc., a leading contract laboratory offering toxicology, pharmacology, immunology, pharmacokinetic and other preclinical services to the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industry.

Russ C. McLauchlan, Chairman and CEO of Calvert Holdings commented: "We are very pleased to enter into this agreement with Dr. Coy and his colleagues at Tulane to further develop this very promising technology for the treatment of wet AMD. This disease is of growing concern to millions of people as our population ages. Calvert has a strong commitment to work with research universities such as Tulane to advance these research efforts." He added: "Calvert T1 is a continuation of investments in a range of technologies over the last several years. Other investments include the following: CureDM (Lankenau Institute) for diabetes, Auburn University for targeted drug delivery, Pinnacle Pharmaceuticals (University of Virginia) for wound healing, and AcSentient II (now owned by Ista Pharmaceuticals, Inc.) for ocular hypertension/open-angle glaucoma.

About Tulane University:
Tulane University is one of the nation's leading educational and research institutions. Founded in 1834 in New Orleans, Tulane has ten schools and colleges offering degrees in architecture, business, law, liberal arts, medicine, public health and tropical medicine, the sciences and engineering, and social work.

Computerized leg gives Army veteran, amputee new lease on life

Computerized leg gives Army veteran, amputee new lease on life

Army veteran and amputee Peter Connell, age 54, bikes, kayaks and teaches skiing and Nautilus, thanks to a revolutionary prosthetic leg. Peter's space-age prosthesis contains a microprocessor-controlled hydraulic knee that takes readings 50 times per second to adjust to walking speed and terrain. Next Step O&P prosthetist Art Graham works with Peter to keep him as active as he wants to be.

QUINCY, MA (PRWEB) May 11, 2004

Peter Connell spent a year in combat during the Vietnam War as a U. S. Army scout. When he returned to the United States in 1969, he thought the worst was over. He had made it home alive and unharmed.

"I got back and said, 'Nothing can happen to me now,' and then wham, it did," Connell recalls. In May, 1969, just two months after his return from Vietnam, he was involved in an Army Jeep accident while on duty at Fort Knox that resulted in the amputation of his right leg above the knee. His entire life changed in the blink of an eye.

As part of his recovery, the Boston native received his first prosthetic leg in 1970. It was flesh-colored, "big and heavy," he remembers, and weighed over 13 pounds. It wasn't comfortable, but Connell knew he'd have to make it work.

Now 54 years old, Connell calls himself "semi-retired" after working for 30 years as a contract negotiator for the U. S. Navy and the U. S. EPA. Living in Quincy, Mass., with his wife, Elaine, he works part-time as a Nautilus instructor for the South Shore YMCA, and in the winter, he's an Adaptive Ski Instructor.

Today, adaptive skiing is a major focus in Connell's life, but that wasn't always the case. The sport didn't interest him until he was 27, eight years after becoming an amputee. He remembers vividly a 1977 news story about the New England Handicapped Sportsmen's Association's adaptive ski program, including film footage of adaptive skiers. Something clicked for Connell. "I said, 'Wow, one leg. I can do that.'"

He recalls his first lesson with more than a little humor. "I actually thought my name had changed from Peter to Get Up," he chuckles, and says his opening run down the beginner slope took nearly two hours. Even if it didn't come naturally, he never considered giving up. Sore but determined, he went back again and again, eventually mastering the sport.

Connell spends most of his slope side time at Mt. Sunapee in New Hampshire, and skis and teaches at other mountains like Loon, Bretton Woods and Cannon Mountain, all in New Hampshire as well. He uses a ski technique called "three-tracking," named for the number of tracks left in the snow. He wears a ski on his left foot and what he calls a "peg leg" on his residual limb, a prosthesis specifically designed for three-tracking. Specialized poles called outriggers help him keep his balance. Since tackling this physical challenge, he has gone on to become an adaptive ski instructor, and was a member of the New England Handicapped Sports Association at Mt. Sunapee for many years. During that time, Connell's performance and attitude as a ski instructor and mentor earned him the association's Rising Star Award, Ben Allen Cup Award and the John Hurst Lifetime Achievement Award.

In April 2004, Connell traveled to Snowmass, Colo., to work as an adaptive ski instructor at the National Disabled Veterans Winter Sports Clinic, a Veterans' Association event that involved more than 300 disabled vets. He has also participated in local and regional ski races, including the Slush Cup at Mt. Sunapee – where he was one of three adaptive skiers among 300 other contestants trying to ski their way across a 70-foot pond.

As active as Connell is, he hasn't always had a prosthesis that could hold up to his demands, and admits that sometimes his prosthetic could be downright painful. Realizing that "good enough wasn't good enough," he wanted to find an orthotics and prosthetics firm that would provide him with the best leg possible. That search led him to Next Step Orthotics and Prosthetics, headquartered in Manchester, N. H.

"For years, I had been interested in going to Next Step," he says, "but their distant location prevented me from choosing them." When the company opened an additional office in Newton, Mass., in late 2002, Connell was eager to make his first appointment.

Next Step specializes in prosthetic limbs for amputees, as well as custom orthotic products. It's at Next Step that Connell and Arthur Graham, CP, CPO (UK), primary prosthetist in the firm's Newton office, began working together. For the last year and a half, Connell and Graham have continued their relationship to improve the socket, its fit and comfort, for all-day use and all activity levels.

Once he began working with Graham, Connell was fitted with the Otto Bock C-leg, a revolutionary computerized prosthesis. This space-age leg contains a microprocessor-controlled hydraulic knee that takes measurements 50 times per second, in order to match his walking speed or terrain changes. Additionally, the C-leg is much lighter – approximately 7 pounds, about half the weight of his old prosthesis. The new technology took some getting used to, he says, but was worth it. The C-leg's technology gives him a level of both comfort and mobility he never thought possible. "It's the best thing I've ever used," says Connell. 'Without it, I probably wouldn't be as active as I am right now. I'm doing something physical every day."

Besides skiing and working out at the YMCA, Connell enjoys bike riding and racing, kayaking and swimming, as well as keeping up with his two young grandsons. He says the key to staying healthy is to keep moving.

What advice would he offer to new amputees? "The best advice that I can provide someone who just had their leg amputated is to believe that things are going to get better, to get into rehab and get hooked up with the best prosthetic provider, ASAP," a strategy that has certainly worked for Connell.

Athletico Raises $6,500 For Chicago Hornets Sled Hockey Team

Athletico Raises $6,500 For Chicago Hornets Sled Hockey Team

Athletic Trainers Educate Community and Fundraise for Local Organization to Support National Athletic Training Month

Oak Brook, IL (Vocus) April 14, 2010

AthletiCo Physical and Occupational Therapy recently supported the efforts of its Athletic Training Department as they celebrated National Athletic Training Month (NATA Month) in March. The theme of this year’s NATA Month was ‘Sport Safety is a Team Effort.’ AthletiCo once again focused their efforts on educating the communities they serve and fundraising for a local organization.

AthletiCo’s athletic trainers (ATs) performed numerous junior high and high school educational and interactive lectures throughout the Chicagoland area, as well as secured proclamations in the cities where AthletiCo centers are located. In addition, the ATs worked as a team to support the Chicago Hornets Sled Hockey Team by participating in a company-wide jean day fundraiser, selling raffle tickets, and participating in a charity sled hockey game. AthletiCo also made a corporate donation to the Hornets.

This is the third year AthletiCo has supported the Hornets during NATA Month, raising over $10,000 the past two years. For 2010, AthletiCo’s ATs continue to be successful in their efforts as they raised $6,500 for the Hornets. The Hornets organization, part of the Amateur Hockey Association of Illinois, provides kids ages 20 years and younger the opportunity, at no cost, to learn and enjoy the game of hockey. The funds raised go towards helping pay for equipment and for the Hornets’ largest expense, ice costs.

Athletic trainer, Jen DeLuca, was actively involved in this year’s community initiatives and feels that the efforts are a positive step towards identifying the roles of athletic trainers with individuals who may not yet be familiar with the work of an AT. The lectures given at the schools gave students the resources needed to understand the athletic training profession, relay this information to family and friends, and be comfortable interacting with ATs.

“By educating a variety of individuals in the community on the positive influence that athletic trainers can have on the lives of others,” says DeLuca, “we are able to ensure a strong future for our profession.”

AthletiCo is the employer of the largest number of certified athletic trainers in the nation and provides Athletic Training Outreach services to over 150 teams and organizations throughout Illinois and Milwaukee. Athletic training is practiced by Certified Athletic Trainers, health care professionals who collaborate with physicians to optimize activity and participation of patients and clients. Athletic training encompasses the prevention, elevation, and intervention of emergency, acute, and chronic medical conditions involving impairment, functional limitations, and disabilities.

In Spite of Continuing Industry Consolidation in the Global Additives Market, the Industry Remains Fairly Fragmented

In Spite of Continuing Industry Consolidation in the Global Additives Market, the Industry Remains Fairly Fragmented

Research and Markets (http://www. researchandmarkets. com/reports/c10020) has announced the addition of Key Players in the Global Additives Industry 2nd Edition to their offering

(PRWEB) November 26, 2004

This report examines the key global food additive manufacturers and the main players to each of the following additive categories:

Acidulants Antioxidants Chemical preservatives Colours Emulsifiers Enzymes Flavours Flavour enhancers Hydrocolloids Sweeteners Vitamins and minerals

The report also identifies, that in spite of continuing industry consolidation, which is particularly evident in the flavours and fragrances category (for example the acquisition of BBA by IFF), the industry remains fairly fragmented. Industry fragmentation is particularly evident in the sweeteners market, with Far Eastern companies vying for market position against European companies by offering low-cost options. Businesses, which continue to operate in this sector all compete within a market estimated to be

Worth more than USD 20bn a year.

Over the next few years, further industry consolidation is likely, so that key players are placed to supply a more demanding global processed food industry.

The focus is on product specialisation rather than serving a number of different additive categories. To keep apace with developments in the processed food industry, additive suppliers will need to review their product ranges as consumers place greater emphasis on better quality and more ‘natural’ products. Key themes that are likely to influence product development in the processed food and therefore the additives market are:

Convenience and snacking Health and functionality Quality and sophistication

A total of 38 companies are profiled in the report, ranging from integrated sugar and maize processors, to chemical companies offering food-grade products as a sideline, to specialist additives suppliers. Where applicable, separate profiles are given for specific business units dealing in additives. For each profile, information is provided (where available) on:

Address, telephone, fax, Web site Ownership details Company background Structure and subsidiaries Recent acquisition and divestment activity Financial data Production sites Products and brands Market positions/shares Strategy

HealthcareSource and HireVue form Exclusive Partnership to Bring Video Job Interviews to the Healthcare Industry

HealthcareSource launches Interview ManagerSM powered by HireVue. Partnership helps healthcare providers prepare to meet oncoming hiring boom with recorded and live video interviews that streamline hiring logistics, reduce costs and greatly speed time-to-hire.

Woburn, MA and Draper, UT (PRWEB) May 12, 2010

HealthcareSource® (http://www. healthcaresource. com), the leading provider of talent management software solutions to the healthcare industry, and HireVue (http://www. hirevue. com), the number one provider of video interviewing solutions, today announced that they have formed a strategic partnership. HealthcareSource will become the exclusive reseller of HireVue to U. S. healthcare providers and will integrate the software into Position Manager®, its industry leading applicant-tracking solution used at over 1,000 hospitals. The solution will be marketed as HealthcareSource Interview ManagerSM powered by HireVue.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports the healthcare industry will generate 3.2 million new wage and salary jobs between 2008 and 2018, more than any other industry, largely due to growth in the elderly population.

"While Healthcare remains at the top of the hiring market, healthcare providers have been forced to pull back in response to the recession," said Peter Segall, CEO and President, HealthcareSource. "The demand is still there but the recruiting budgets are limited. However, with the economy showing positive growth, the healthcare reform bill adding millions of potential patients to the mix and no change in elderly population growth, the pressure is building for new ideas that reduce recruiting costs. Our customers are asking us for help. We knew this problem couldn't be solved with traditional thinking, that's why we turned to HireVue. They are changing the game and our customers will benefit with competitive recruiting advantages."

HealthcareSource Interview ManagerSM (http://www. healthcaresource. com/solutions/video-interviewing. html) powered by HireVue is a video job interview platform that allows employers to dramatically improve the interview process by using video interviews to create a historical record of the interview that can be reviewed at any time and compared against other candidates. Organizations can drastically cut time and cost from their recruiting processes while giving hiring teams deeper insight into candidate's strengths and weaknesses. The result is improved candidate screening, reduced interview time, reduced recruiting travel expense, and more consistent, compliant and effective interviews.

"The bottom line for healthcare providers is that, combined with Position Manager, HireVue is ideally suited to help them deal with the pressures of talent management in today's healthcare environment," said HireVue CEO, Mark Newman. "HealthcareSource is a true innovator for talent management in healthcare. This partnership is proof that they not only hear their customers, but they are keeping pace with the changing face of talent management in this evolving space."

Jan. 11 Marks 40th Anniversary of Surgeon GeneralÂ’s Report Linking Smoking and Lung Cancer

Jan. 11 Marks 40th Anniversary of Surgeon GeneralÂ’s Report Linking Smoking and Lung Cancer

Author of “Avoiding Lung Cancer” recounts progress made since the 1964 release of surgeon general’s report on smoking and lung cancer, but warns that 50 million Americans still are smokers exposed to dangers of tobacco use.

ATLANTA, GA (PRWEB) January 13, 2004

Forty years ago, on Jan. 11, 1964, a Saturday seven weeks after President John F. Kennedy was assassinated, the surgeon general of the United States announced that smoking had been linked to lung cancer and other diseases.

Luther Terry issued that first surgeon general's report on smoking and health, which connected cigarette smoking with lung cancer, heart disease and emphysema. Back then, 43 percent of adult Americans smoked, annually consuming more than 4,000 cigarettes per person.

The tobacco industry immediately disputed the surgeon generalÂ’s 387-page report, citing findings by the Tobacco Institute, a now defunct organization that it had created. The Tobacco Institute pointed out that efforts to cause human-type lung cancer in animals through inhalation of tobacco smoke had consistently failed.

In 1965, the Federal Cigarette Labeling and Advertising Act required that a warning message from the surgeon general be printed on cigarette packs for the first time. Six years later, in 1971, advertisements for cigarettes were banned from radio and television broadcasts.

In 1973, the government began requiring nonsmoking sections in airplanes. Airlines later banning smoking altogether on flights.

In 1988, Surgeon General C. Everett Koop concluded for the first time that nicotine was an addictive drug.

In 1994, executives of the seven largest U. S. tobacco companies swore in congressional testimony that nicotine was not addictive and denied manipulating nicotine levels in cigarettes. It was later discovered that tobacco companies had known about the dangers of smoking and the addictive nature of nicotine well before the surgeon general did. Six months before the original 1964 surgeon generalÂ’s report was issued, a Brown and Williamson executive had written, "We are, then, in the business of selling nicotine, an addictive drug."

In 1997, the tobacco industry made a landmark settlement with the U. S. government, promising to spend nearly $400 billion on anti-smoking campaigns over subsequent decades in exchange for federal protection from lawsuits.

The tobacco industry a year later, in 1998, entered into the Master Settlement Agreement (MSA). Through it, tobacco companies agreed to pay 46 states $206 billion over 25 years to help them recover tobacco-related health care costs. Four states settled their lawsuits separately for about $40 billion over 25 years.

Today, smoking among American adults has fallen to 23 percent of the adult population, about 50 million people. Most of those—70 percent, or 35 million—want to quit. Lung cancer death rates among men have been declining two percent per year since 1991 as more males quit. Many cities and counties now ban smoking in public places. Increased tobacco prices discourage consumption—it’s estimated that for every 10-cent increase in cigarette prices, there’s a four percent drop in consumption.

But the picture is far from perfect. While the rate of smoking has dropped by half from 1964, it is currently estimated to cost the United States economy about $75 billion in direct medical costs and $82 billion in lost productivity annually. Smoking remains the nationÂ’s leading cause of preventable death. As many women as men now smoke. Tobacco companies still spend $11 billion annually to promote smoking, about 20 times as much as states spend to discourage smoking.

Further, most states are squandering their tobacco settlement money on just about everything but smoking prevention. Only four states—Maine, Delaware, Mississippi and Arkansas—fund tobacco control programs at the 25 percent of settlement money recommended by the Centers for Disease Control. And more than two million young people each year pick up their first cigarette, leading to more than 700,000 new regular smokers being hooked annually. Research indicates it takes only three cigarettes to become addicted to nicotine.

"In 1964, smoking was accepted and allowed almost everywhere including in workplaces, airplanes, restaurants, bars and movie theaters," says Noel Griese, author of “Avoiding Lung Cancer” and "Conquering Cancer: Progress in 2003."

"The surgeon general's report began to open America's eyes to the dangers of smoking," he said. "It was the start of a steady decrease in the number of Americans who smoke. However, we need to do a lot more. Lung cancer is still the leading cause of cancer deaths among men and women."

“The surgeon general's 1964 report on smoking and health for the first time demonstrated a clear link between tobacco use and cancer death,” says Griese, who is also the editor of “Lung Cancer Update” newsletter and a past state director of both the American Lung Association and American Cancer Society. “Numerous studies since have supported the causal connection, as well as the addictive nature of smoking,”

More than 440,000 Americans still die from smoking-related illnesses including lung cancer, heart disease and emphysema each year. "Much has changed since 1964, except the fact that smoking still kills," he said.

Allison Crowe's Favourite Things: Canadian Singer-Songwriter Earns Acclaim on Her Own Terms

Allison Crowe's Favourite Things: Canadian Singer-Songwriter Earns Acclaim on Her Own Terms

Canadian singer-songwriter Allison Crowe records most of her music live, in a single take. Crowe is earning growing critical and popular acclaim for her artistry. This recent holiday season her albums, (created at a cost that is a miniscule fraction of most recording artists), Secrets and Tidings, have been named as top picks by reviewers from indie webzines to mass-circulation newspapers.

(PRWEB) January 14, 2005

This holiday season has been a warm one for singer-songwriter Allison Crowe despite some typically Canadian temperatures and plenty of snow. Her year closed with a series of concerts that united people in music and spirit.

On a professional level, things have, indeed, been joyful and triumphant. Tidings, Allison Crowe's hour-long tv special was broadcast on CHUM's NewNetwork delighting fans new and old. CroweÂ’s singer-songwriter album, Secrets, was named one of the best CDs of 2004 by Collected Sounds. Tidings, her holiday collection, received brilliant reviews in publications, literally, coast-to-coast ~ from VictoriaÂ’s Times Colonist to the Halifax Herald, with plenty of thumbs up in-between and internationally. (Album reviews are found in the Press section of Allison Crowe's official web-site.)

"The Yuletide find of the year," said the Kitchener-Waterloo Record. In the Toronto Sun, one of Canada’s largest circulation dailies, holiday albums from Allison Crowe and Frank Sinatra ranked highest, with Tidings, Crowe's live, single-take, recording topping a sack-full of popular big-budget label releases (from such acts as Chris Isaak, Jessica Simpson, Clay Aiken, Vanessa Williams and the Barenaked Ladies). And, following the marathon (six-day) radio program of Dr. Gerry Grzyb, (a holiday tradition broadcast on Wisconsin’s WRST), “Dr. Christmas” wrote to say: “Of over 100 new Christmas CDs played on my show, Allison's drew the most listener interest.”

Over the holidays, John Intini, Assistant Editor of Canada's national news magazine, Maclean's, interviewed Allison Crowe for a fun little item to appear in that publication's current issue. The subject? A few of Alley's favourite things.

HereÂ’s an out-take of that interview ~ in which Crowe reveals her top classic rock picks:

The Ocean - Led Zeppelin - “I grew up listening to quite a bit of Led Zeppelin, and I love everything to do with The Ocean, that is the ACTUAL ocean, so this track is a natural favourite of mine from the get go. Also, I quite enjoy the a cappella bridge of the song, with all the ‘La-La’s.”

Me and Bobby McGee - Janis Joplin - “Piece of My Heart is a very, very close second, but I had to go with this one because it just rocks. The piano on this track and the rootsy rock feel are my favourite.”

The Weight - The Band - “Every time I hear this song I just kind of go ‘ahhhh’... and think, wow, I miss Woodstock. Those were the times. And then I remember I was born in 1981.”

“All Along the Watchtower - the Jimi Hendrix version would be my next pick”

To learn Allison CroweÂ’s trio of most cherished jazz albums, check out the January 17, 2005 edition of MacleanÂ’s.

And, here's wishing you the best of New Years. May you and your loved ones enjoy good health and good times.

College Access Denied in 2005

College Access Denied in 2005

An impending crisis is looming in 2005, if the government changes its finncial aid policy. An estimated 90,000 students could be eliminated from the receiving the financial support required to attend college.

(PRWEB) December 14, 2004

Looming in 2005, if the government alters its financial aid policy regarding Pell grants. According to the Philadelphia Inquirer an estimated 90, 000 students could be eliminated from receiving the financial support necessary to attend college. The government claims that cutting these students will make room for low income students to receive more money in the future. Who will the policy change impact? Both middle class and low income students will suffer most when the financial aid policy is changed. Currently, students are suffering from a large gap in the amount of money they need to pay their final college bill. The students and parents who are already apprehensive about the cost of college will see an average outstanding bill of $5,000 - $15, 000. To compound this matter colleges are offering more scholarships to students based on merit rather than unmet need. It could mean that in years to come middle and low income students will be denied an undergraduate education.

The United States Department of Education has reported that the number of students eligible to attend college will rise into the year 2020. What will the country do if it cannot educate its workforce? Year after year the United States is not ranked in the top ten in the world with regard to math and science. If this trend continues, we will witness a decline in worker productivity and competitiveness.

I say it is time to take another course. LetÂ’s not get on the Titantic and assume that we have the best education system in the world and that an education crisis will not happen. We must understand that moving chairs around on the Titantic doesnÂ’t change the fact that we are going down. We are approaching a time when only the wealthy will be able to afford a college education. Every citizen should have a college education as an option. I say contact your local senator or congressperson and let them know about the impending changes in financial aid during 2005. Share your stories about personal difficulties you experience when paying a college bill. The $4050 students receive in no way covers the cost of college and more students are taking out loans and working 30 hours to pay their college related bills. A studentÂ’s health is compromised when they are under this sort of pressure.

I believe in solutions and that is why I am suggesting that parents and students take preventative steps before the adverse financial aid policies are implemented. Apply for college scholarships early. Begin to gather information about scholarships during the ninth grade. Here are a few things you can do to obtain scholarships. Send a letter to your local rotary club, college fraternity or sorority requesting information about their scholarship. Visit your local legislatorÂ’s office to inquire about new scholarships offered by your state or federal government offices. You can go onto the internet and conduct a search for scholarships. Some of the topics you should search on the internet include free money, scholarships, college financial aid, money for college, free scholarship, government grants of scholarships.

EVOS Promotes "Get Smart About Antibiotics Week"

EVOS Promotes "Get Smart About Antibiotics Week"

Customers to get healthy dose of antibiotic awareness info and 100% antibiotic - free Steakburgers - for free.

Chapel Hill, NC (PRWEB) October 2, 2008

EVOS® restaurants are joining in the Center for Disease Control's "Get Smart About Antibiotics Week" to help educate people on antibiotic resistance and the importance of appropriate antibiotic use. The initiative is a national campaign that runs from October 6 through October 10.

Antibiotic resistance has been called one of the world's most pressing health problems. Almost every type of bacteria has become stronger and less responsive to antibiotic treatment when it is really needed. These antibiotic-resistant bacteria can quickly spread to family members, schoolmates, and co-workers - threatening the community with a new strain of infectious disease that is more difficult to cure and more expensive to treat. For this reason, antibiotic resistance is among the CDC's top concerns.

"Our customers tend to be health-conscious, and we see this as an opportunity to give them some important information that they can use to make some healthy choices about the use of antibiotics," said EVOS co-founder Dino Lambridis.

EVOS customers will find some of the CDC's facts and prevention tips on their trays and in takeout bags during "Get Smart About Antibiotics Week."

On Wednesday, October 8th, EVOS customers can enjoy a free EVOS Freerange Steakburger as the company's way of saying thanks and helping to spread the word about this important initiative. The EVOS Steakburger - just like all beef and chicken at EVOS - is 100% antibiotic free.

"There's no need to give our cows drugs - they're not sick," said Lambridis. "The same principle applies to people. Don't take antibiotics for colds and flu. That's why we are helping the CDC spread the word about this important health issue."

EVOS Chapel Hill is located at 1800 E. Franklin St. Chapel Hill, NC 27514

For more information on antibiotic resistance, see the CDC's website at www. cdc. gov/getsmart (http://www. cdc. gov/getsmart)
