"How to Handle Your Anger When You Receive Bad Customer Service" Just Announced by Hale Dwoskin, Featured Teacher in the #1 Mega-Bestseller "The Secret"

Hale Dwoskin, founder of The Sedona Method and a featured teacher in the #1 blockbuster bestselling book and movie, "The Secret," has just announced "How to Handle Your Anger When You Receive Bad Customer Service."

Sedona, AZ (PRWEB) September 5, 2007

Hale Dwoskin, founder of The Sedona Method and a featured teacher in the #1 blockbuster bestselling book and movie, "The Secret," has just announced how to handle your anger when you receive bad customer service.

The slogan "the customer is always right" does, unfortunately, not apply nearly as often as it should, at least from many customers' perspectives. A survey by National Public Radio found that one out of two customers had problems while they shopped, ranging from long lines to uninformed sales staff.

Indeed, nearly all of us have experienced hassles while out shopping, on the phone with a service provider or when dealing with any number of other customer service representatives. They're supposed to be "serving" the customer … yet often end up being rude, unhelpful or careless, or supplying the customer with the wrong information altogether.

Just trying to reach a live person to talk to on the phone can now be quite maddening, as can trying to communicate the purpose of the call to a robotic voice at the other end of the line.

Not surprisingly, a dose of bad customer service is enough to infuriate even the most easygoing among us, and may easily blow the fuse for someone who's a bit more "type A. (http://www. sedona. com/lp-typeA. aspx)"

Of course, getting angry at a customer service rep does not help the situation, nor does it do anything good for one's physical and emotional health, which is why it's important to learn how to manage the anger even in the face of bad customer service. There's no reason to let a rude or misinformed customer service rep take the joy out of a good day, after all.

Dealing With Anger Over Bad Customer Service

When feeling one's blood beginning to boil (http://www. sedona. com/lp-rage. aspx), and even well before this point, here are the steps to take to stay calm when customer service goes wrong.

1. Don't take it personally. "Many companies have not gotten their customer service act together even though it is such a critical part of any business," says Hale Dwoskin, CEO and director of training of Sedona Training Associates. "Remember that bad customer service is not personal, then allow yourself to take whatever action is appropriate to right the situation for yourself."

2. Let go of anger and frustration. Often times we let feelings control our thoughts, our behaviors and our very lives, but it doesn't have to be this way. Feelings are just feelings and one can learn how to let go of anger on the spot using The Sedona Method (http://www. sedona. com/).

The scientifically proven Sedona Method consists of a series of simple questions (http://www. sedona. com/html/sample-of-process. aspx) that one can ask anytime they feel anger coming on. It teaches a person how to tap into their natural ability to release negative emotions, like anger, anxiety, rage and more, to feel calm and at peace even during tense situations.

"Remember, the feeling of anger will not resolve the situation. In fact, it often makes it worse," Dwoskin says.

3. Talk to someone who CAN help. Part of what makes bad customer service so frustrating is that it often prevents us from achieving a desired end result. Keep in mind that a customer service rep may be limited in their ability to help because of company policies or managers. When focusing on releasing pent up anger, ask to speak with someone who can directly help solve the problem.

Right now everyone can get the free Insiders Guide to The Sedona Method email course sampler (http://www. sedona. com/lp-customerservice. aspx) by inputting their name and email in the sidebar on the right at www. sedona. com/lp-customerservice. aspx (http://www. sedona. com/lp-customerservice. aspx).

For more insights on the issue of solitude and related topics, Hale Dwoskin, New York Times Best-Selling author of The Sedona Method, featured expert in the film and New York Times bestseller "The Secret," and CEO and Director of Training of Sedona Training Associates, is available for interviews. Sedona Training Associates is an organization that teaches courses based on the emotional releasing techniques originated by Hale Dwoskin's mentor, Lester Levenson. Dwoskin is an international speaker and featured faculty member at Esalen and the Omega Institute. For over a quarter century, he has regularly been teaching The Sedona Method techniques to individuals and corporations throughout the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom. Senior Housing Leader Ecumen Points Way to Post Partisanship: Long Term Care Financing Reform

Guest post in New York Times and latest whitepaper illustrate reasons why Sens. McCain & Obama are silent on Long Term Care Financing Reform and Outline Opportunity For Candidates

Shoreview, MN (PRWEB) September 9, 2008

http://www. ecumen. org (http://www. ecumen. org) - Aging services provider Ecumen, one of the country's largest non-profit senior housing companies, has released a new whitepaper, and contributed a guest post to The New York Times, detailing the unprecedented opportunity to improve American quality of life for everyone who is not in Sens. McCain and Obama's tax brackets.

"Long Term Care Financing Reform: An Incredible Opportunity for Candidates Who Desire Positive Change in America (http://www. ecumen. org/whitepaper. html)" is the latest whitepaper penned by Ecumen's CEO Kathryn Roberts, PhD, who also is a board member of the American Association of Homes and Services for the Aging (AAHSA). Baby boomer Roberts calls out today's presidential candidates on their relative silence on this issue that impacts all Americans.

"Today about 10 million Americans need long-term care and 12 million will need it in 2020," states Roberts in the paper and post. "Unfortunately, as the unprecedented age wave (http://www. ecumen. org/whitepaper. html) rises, America sits in a costly time warp depending on outdated, unnecessarily expensive institutional long term care."

America's broken long-term care financing system is working against the interests of its citizens. It denies choice, impoverishes families and threatens to bankrupt federal and state governments. America needs innovation. Absent that innovation, the increasing burden on individuals and families, and on state and federal programs - Medicaid, in particular - is unsustainable.

Roberts paper outlines reasons for the national silence on long-term care financing reform and highlights a national - and equitable - long-term care insurance trust that could provide an opportunity for policymakers to forge a bi-partisan comeback and generate a victory to hasten overall health care reform.

"Long term care financing reform," concludes Roberts, " is a tremendous opportunity that sits before every candidate and every citizen who seeks to transform America for the 21st century."

Dermatologist in Indiana Concerned with the Rise of Non-Melanoma Skin Cancer in U. S

Dermatologist in Indiana Concerned with the Rise of Non-Melanoma Skin Cancer in U. S.

According to studies published in the March 2010 issue of Archives of Dermatology, there has been a marked increase in the number of non-melanoma skin cancer cases in the United States in the past several decades. A Medical Specialists Dermatologist, Dr. Donna Ward, shares her concerns.

Munster, IN (PRWEB) August 3, 2010

A recent study published in the Archives of Dermatology reveals that non-melanoma skin cancer has steadily increased since the 1990’s, becoming the most common form of cancer and affecting more people than all other cancers combined. With the sunny days of summer just around the corner, dermatologists are reminding patients to make sunscreen a key component of skin care. Indiana dermatologist Dr. Donna Ward says that, like all other pleasures that are hazardous to our health, the sun needs to be enjoyed in moderation and with good judgment.

Dr. Ward, a [link: http://www. medspecindiana. com/specialty-details. cfm/SPECIALTYID/39/ (http://www. medspecindiana. com/specialty-details. cfm/SPECIALTYID/39/)] dermatologist in Indiana [/link] at Dermatology and Cosmetic Specialists, can personally attest to the increase. “There has definitely been an increase in skin cancer and we're starting to see it in younger patients," says Dr. Ward. "I'm currently treating patients, some of whom are 20 and 30 years old, for various forms of skin cancer, including melanoma, basal cell and squamous cell."

Serious sunburns and accumulated sun exposure are the main culprits causing skin cancer. Dr. Ward and her associates at Dermatology and Cosmetic Specialists say people are simply not protecting themselves like they should. The use of sunscreen, protective clothing and hats is key to preventing harmful exposure to the sun. And, while the use of sunscreen may seem to be the obvious answer to sun protection, Dr. Ward says people don't use it correctly or often enough.

“The use of sunscreen needs to be a daily ritual," explains Dr. Ward. "It cannot be brought out just for vacations. People tend to remember sunscreen for leisure activities and forget about it for everyday activities and work. Sunscreen needs to be applied every day and, if necessary, several times throughout the day. However," she adds, "the sun can't take all the blame for skin cancers. Tanning beds are always a bad idea."

In addition to protection, early detection is the key to minimizing the risk of skin cancer. Perform a monthly “mole patrol” and look for new or abnormal brown-colored spots. If an abnormal spot is found, speak to your dermatologist about it. By using common sense, sunscreen and protective clothing, most people can safely work and play outdoors without worrying too much about skin cancer. If you do notice a mole that differs from others or a spot on the skin changes, promptly contact a dermatologist.

"I encourage my patients to check their skin regularly for suspicious moles and, whenever they have a concern, to come in and see me," says Dr. Ward. "With early detection and treatment, skin cancer has a high cure rate. And, if patients visit me for a skin cancer check and want to talk about how to reduce the signs of aging, we can talk about that, too. As dermatologists, we need to work on keeping people healthy, but also happy with their appearance."

Dermatology and Cosmetic Specialists is a full-service dermatology group comprised of clinically trained, Board Certified dermatologists and physician assistants. These highly skilled dermatologists focus on three core components of dermatology: general dermatology, cosmetic dermatology and dermatological surgery. This group is a part of Medical Specialists Centers of Indiana (http://www. medspecindiana. com (http://www. medspecindiana. com)), a unique healthcare organization comprised of highly trained primary care and speciality care physicians and surgeons. Providing the highest quality healthcare to residents of Northwest Indiana since 1978, Medical Specialists Centers of Indiana strives to bring university level medical care to the community setting.

American Researcher Develops Natural Method to Heal Hemorrhoids in 48 Hours

American Researcher Develops Natural Method to Heal Hemorrhoids in 48 Hours

American researcher develops natural method to heal hemorrhoids in 48 hours she is Holly Hayden of Palo Alto, California USA, and has already helped thousands of people around the world.

(PRWEB) May 20, 2009

An American researcher has developed a natural method to heal hemorrhoids in 48 hours she is Holly Hayden also an author of Palo Alto, California USA, Holly set out to find a cure after suffering from hemorrhoids herself. And after trying all sorts of would-be cures she developed the H-Miracle system. And the fact is that More than 40% of adults will suffer from hemorrhoids or piles at some point in their lives. It is basically any form of vein inflammation around the lower rectum.

Likely signs that you have piles are blood on your toilet paper, itching in your anus area or pain during constipation. In the more severe stages, piles form into lumps on your anus - very painful and embarrassing. Even if you're already showing these signs, you can start relieving the problem by avoiding three common mistakes.

Mistake #1: Eating too much processed food.
This can be tough for some people but it's known that processed foods can create harder stools and digestive troubles, leading to constipation and hemorrhoids. So the key here is to lower your intake of processed sugars and foods.

Mistake #2: Sedentary lifestyle.
Long-term sitting, putting pressure on your rectum, sets up the perfect conditions for hemorrhoids to occur particularly when combined with constipation (or pregnancy in women). The solution is to make sure you do not sit for more than one hour at a time, and remember to do stretches that promote healthy blood flow.

Mistake #3: Intake of processed medication and use of creams.
These create the same potential problems as processed foods. Even many fibre supplements contain processed and artificial elements that can cause side-effects. And they are not attacking
The root of the problem. The other downside of these creams is that they're a waste of time and the hemorrhoids can get worse if the root problem is not reversed. By not making these three mistakes, you will avoid contributing to any worsening of hemorrhoids.

Holly has now helped thousands of sufferers all around the world to heal their painful hemorrhoids heres what some of them had to say;

One, Phil H., San Francisco, CA said: Holly, I wanted to let you know that your manual and method are a complete life-saver! Thank you so much for sharing this information. My doc would only tell me surgery was the only option. I couldn't stand it. Your stuff on the other hand, I tried the crystal soak remedy and on the second day, no bleeding ever again. It even shrunk the tissue and was amazingly easy!

Another Dr. Charles Livingston. D. C., C. C.W. P. said: This is a fantastic [system]. Holly has discovered the best natural treatments for hemorrhoids on the market... she gives at least 10 different instant relief remedies. I was so impressed, that I will be recommending them for my patients. The research and knowledge that she has laid out in this [system] will save you hours of pain and hundreds of dollars. Listen to her. She knows what she's talking about!

The New Wellness: How Next-Gen Healthcare Companies like Healthways are Giving Older Adults the Tools to Redefine Wellness in the 21st Century

The New Wellness: How Next-Gen Healthcare Companies like Healthways are Giving Older Adults the Tools to Redefine Wellness in the 21st Century

Nashville, TN (Vocus) December 18, 2006

Joseph and Carmella Gemmato never thought their Medicare benefits would lead to a healthier marriage, but that's what's happening as a result of the steps being taken in Washington, D. C., around the country and by the Gemmatos themselves.

At least five days a week, Joseph, 81, and his wife Carmella, 77, walk the half-mile from their home to the local YMCA, where they participate in The SilverSneakers® Fitness Program, a unique exercise program specifically tailored for older adults and paid for by HealthSpring, their Medicare Advantage health (http://www. healthways. com/) plan. It's a ritual that Carmella says has changed their lives.

"We go practically every day. That's the beauty of it," Carmella says of the Gemmatos' newfound fitness routine. "It gives us time together and time to socialize with other people. It keeps our marriage going. We just love it."

SilverSneakers is an innovative exercise program that's gaining popularity at fitness centers across the country. It's specifically designed for Medicare beneficiaries' unique health and physical needs and features certified fitness instructors who teach the classes.

Members like the Gemmatos can use other fitness center amenities like exercise equipment, weight training and circuit training. They can also visit any participating fitness centers and class sites across the nation when they travel.

As rising healthcare (http://www. healthways. com/) costs continue to ratchet up the pressure on insurers and consumers alike, they are increasingly turning to wellness programs like SilverSneakers as well as chronic disease management programs as a way to improve patient health and longevity while controlling costs.

Private insurers and employers aren't alone in their increasing adoption of lifelong wellness and disease management programs. State and federal governments are also embracing the value of preventive health and care support in government-sponsored plans. Services like SilverSneakers and chronic disease management programs are now offered through Medicare because of the flexibility allowed to commercial Medicare Advantage health plans. This diversity in coverage options, and the innovation in health and care support it's driving, has helped spur more older Americans than ever before to sign up for commercially available Medicare plans.

In 2005 alone, the federal government approved 163 new commercial Medicare Advantage plans, with more than five million Medicare beneficiaries enrolled. Since 2004, Medicare members like the Gemmatos have been signing up for such plans at an average rate of 50,000 new members per month.

The growth in Medicare Advantage enrollment mirrors the growth in programs like SilverSneakers. To date, more than three million seniors in 42 states at more than 2,400 fitness centers and class sites are eligible for SilverSneakers through their Medicare Advantage health plans, who increasingly see wellness offerings like SilverSneakers and next-generation disease management programs as complementary measures that meet the needs of members at all points on the healthcare spectrum - whether healthy, sick, or like most, somewhere in between.

The "in-between" category of those well enough for daily tasks, but using medications and seeing doctors regularly has never been larger or received more attention. Seniors (http://www. healthways. com/) like the Gemmatos enjoy an historically unprecedented level of health and activity, but they also use more medications and have more complex healthcare situations than previous generations.

Their unparalleled health status, driven by advances in medicine, as well as increased emphasis on wellness, nutrition, prevention and managing illness into old age, is only a foreshadowing of the level of care and health baby boomers will expect as they cross into retirement and beyond.

Statistics illustrate that the challenge of balancing wellness with complex care support and treatment protocols will only grow as America's aging population expands. A 2005 Kaiser Family Foundation study found that of the 89 percent of seniors who report taking prescription drugs in the past year, nearly half take five or more, more than half have more than one doctor who prescribes medicine, and about a third use more than one pharmacy.

The study also found that among older adults with at least three chronic health conditions, nearly three-fourths take five or more medications regularly and more than half do not take all their drugs as prescribed.

The complexity of this care -- and the potential to save money by managing it well -- is why health plans have long relied upon companies like Nashville-based Healthways to provide chronic disease management services to their members.

For the Gemmatos, and many other seniors, being well doesn't necessarily mean being free from disease, but living life to the fullest. In addition to their busy fitness routine, the Gemmatos participate in a Healthways disease management program. The program connects the Gemmatos with Healthways nurses, who help Carmella manage her osteoporosis and low back pain, and coach Joseph on the most effective ways to manage his acid-reflux.

"The calls we get are great," says Carmella of the Care Support calls they get from Healthways nurses. "Joseph gets his calls, and I get mine. They give us advice, talk to us about how we're doing and keep track of things for us."

Behind the scenes, Healthways (http://www. healthways. com/) employs an army of nurses and clinicians who use sophisticated medical, tracking and predictive technology to monitor the Gemmatos' interactions with the healthcare system, medication use and adherence to doctor's orders.

The health education and coaching they receive help ensure they can continue in the SilverSneakers program, while their fitness program helps keep Joseph moving and combat Carmella's low-back pain.

The combination of managing illness while staying well creates a powerful synergy, and it explains why Healthways recently acquired Axia Health Management, the parent company behind SilverSneakers and a suite of other wellness and prevention programs, including QuitNet, an online smoking cessation community.

"The old way of thinking was that you need to be healthy before you can begin exercising, and if you need support for your chronic illness, you must be sick," said Healthways President and CEO Ben R. Leedle Jr. "But we know that's not true. Wellness can be achieved at many points on the healthcare spectrum by people of all ages, and Healthways is able to help everyone, regardless of their place on that spectrum, by providing the support they need when and where they need it to live healthier lives."

The new company will become the nation's first to offer programs that can support consumers at all points on the healthcare spectrum -- healthy, sick, or in between. Industry insiders agree that the recent acquisition of Axia Health Management creates an entirely new kind of company ready to meet the needs of the 21st century healthcare consumer and the demands of the 21st century healthcare system.

"By aligning the interests of consumers, providers and payors, this combination of outcomes-driven disease management with wellness and prevention programs puts Healthways at the vanguard of whole population health management," said Joe Coughlin, PhD, founding director, MIT AgeLab. "This approach looks more like what I -- and many others -- envision as the future of healthcare."

For the Gemmatos, the future of healthcare has become part of daily life -- and one that has improved their lives immeasurably.

"I was skeptical at first," says Joseph Gemmato, of the Silver Sneakers program. "But when you start to get old, you've got to move around, and this has really made a difference for Carmella and me."

Wireless MedCARE Raises $535,000 for Healthcare Technology Product

Wireless MedCARE Raises $535,000 for Healthcare Technology Product

Despite a challenging economy, Wireless MedCARE, LLC has raised $535,000 in equity and debt offerings since October 2008 to develop the VivaTRAK™ Activity Monitoring system for use in long-term care facilities. The Roanoke, Va.-based company has received investment from the Carilion Biomedical Institute, Optimum Sensor Holdings and individual investors primarily in southwest Virginia. Wireless MedCARE (WMC) was created in 2006 to address common quality of care and efficiency problems in skilled nursing sector of healthcare delivery. Many occupants of the 1.6 million beds in U. S. nursing homes in the United States are at risk for pressure ulcers and falls.

Roanoke, VA (PRWEB) December 10, 2009

WMC's first product, VivaTRAK, is a complete system that uses wireless and sensor technology to track the activity of patients and their caregivers in nursing homes. The system ensures that care tasks are completed on time and documented in healthcare records for quality assurance, reimbursement, and liability risk mitigation purposes.

After completing its first clinical evaluation in a Virginia long-term care facility, WMC sought funds to transition from prototypes to production.

"We are pleased that even in these difficult economic times, especially as investments are highly scrutinized, we've been successful in communicating to the investment community the value proposition for healthcare IT systems that address quality of care and staff efficiency issues," said Dan Wrappe, CEO of Wireless MedCARE. "Our funding has supported development of an innovative system that promises real solutions for a critical population."

Filings available from the Securities and Exchange Commission indicate the company has made a series of private offerings of debt and equity.

According to statistics available from PricewaterhouseCoopers MoneyTree, the amount of capital invested in seed and early-stage companies in recent years has been down dramatically.

"The landscape for new companies seeking capital, either institutional venture or angel investment, in the last 18 months has been utterly dismal," noted Dave Gilroy, managing director of Scale Finance in Charlotte, N. C. "Successful fund-raising results of this kind place Wireless MedCARE above 95% of early-stage ventures in their category. Congratulations to Dan and the WMC team."

About Wireless MedCARE, LLC
Wireless MedCARE, LLC is a privately funded, early-stage company applying advanced wireless, sensor and information technology to healthcare. The company offers sensor assisted care systems with a strong emphasis on web-enabled and wireless technologies. As the world population inflates and metropolitan areas continue to expand, urban sprawl has quickly overtaken the natural landscape. Yet within these concrete jungles, a new breed of gardener has emerged, one that is willing to work in constrictive environment to produce tiny porch gardens and patio crops.

The upsurge of urban gardeners calls for a new wave of literature to encourage their homegrown hobby. The entire planet is becoming aware of the importance and benefits of organic farming, including health improvements and financial freedom. Enter organic farming innovator Jay North and his time tested organic growing practices. In his new book, The Windowsill Organic Gardener: Organic Growing for the Urban Gardener, Jay shows city dwellers how to grow their own favorite vegetables, herbs and edible flowers in windowsill boxes, inside their own homes. This organic process is done without gardening hydroponically and free of high intensity lights.

The Windowsill Organic Gardener is for anyone who appreciates fresh, healthy, organic vegetables and would like their own window ledge to brim with tomatoes, baby lettuces, summer squash, fresh herbs, and more. With clear, lively, user-friendly language, windowsill gardeners are given intricate step-by-step instruction on rearing a bounty of healthful organic vegetables, herbs, edible flowers and more. Readers enjoy sound advice ranging from everything they need to get started, choosing the right crops, and caring for their growing plants.

Author Jay North and his beloved late wife Pamela were known as one of the "Edible Flower Children" and were pioneers in the fledgling organic farming industry. Introducing hundreds of varieties of organically grown vegetables, fruit, herbs and the ever-popular edible flowers, the couple founded Paradise Farms, known worldwide as an innovator in specialty organic produce, organic gardening and produce marketing.

Jay has turned his expertise into helping people all over the world develop their own farms for sustenance, consumption and large production for commercial sales for over thirty years. Longmont Area Economic Council Releases Annual Industry Survey Results; Annual report surveys industry in Boulder and Weld Counties

The Longmont Area Economic Council has released its 2004 Existing Industry Report, a survey of Longmont's industrial base of 235 primary employers that provide more than 13,000 jobs, with 169 (72 percent) of the companies located in Boulder County, and 68 (28 percent) located in Weld County.

(PRWEB) July 13, 2004

The Longmont Area Economic Council has released its 2004 Existing Industry Report, a survey of Longmont's industrial base of 235 primary employers that provide more than 13,000 jobs, with 169 (72 percent) of the companies located in Boulder County, and 68 (28 percent) located in Weld County.

"This is an annual project we are particularly proud of," notes John Cody, CED, president and CEO of the Longmont Area Economic Council. "We've been doing this longer than most of the communities in Colorado, and thanks to an outstanding group of volunteers, we survey more companies, and get a larger response rate in a shorter time, than any other participating community."

Survey results indicate the potential for 1,358 new jobs, $95.6 million in capital investment and use of more than 941,000 additional square feet of space over the next three years. The technology sector accounts for 76 percent of the estimated new investment. The percentage of companies planning growth (56%) is the highest it has been in five years.

LAEC's Existing Industry committee is made up of 22 volunteers from the Longmont business community who contact primary employers, alert them to the pending survey, and encourage them to respond. The committee was able to contact 220 out of 235 primary employers in the region, a 94 percent contact rate, resulting in 150 companies that responded to the survey, a 64 percent response rate.

A new tool this year that helped in the creation of the report is the purchase of a new software program called Synchronist, which analyzes collected data in a variety of ways and allows improved data analysis. Information in the report is based on data collected via direct answers, analysis and comparisons made from extracted data, as well as background and historical information. LAEC's staff also follows up with companies seeking to expand operations or that may be facing issues that may put them at risk.

The report is an integral part of keeping LAEC informed about the activities of Longmont-area primary employers. It demonstrates the community's interest in existing industry, helps define needs and concerns to be addressed, helps determine the health of the area's industrial base and individual companies, and tries to assess the opportunities and risks for keeping and growing them.

High Point, N. C. (Vocus) October 13, 2008

Greenhouse Design (http://www. greenhousedesign. net/) has unveiled its new Web site with a customer-focused approach to browsing and shopping for fabrics. The new GreenhouseDesign. net features full-color photos of many popular fabrics in use in actual room settings.

"The fresh look of our site is designed to be easier to use and more functional for the busy design professional," says President Mike Bivins. "Our customers have a hectic schedule so we followed their advice on how to improve the shopping experience."

The company's Web site is an industry leader known for its easily searchable database stocked with more than 10,000 fabrics and trims. An advanced search engine allows customers to hone in on specific colors, patterns or price points, and results are presented in an easy-to-read grid format. Additional search categories include item number, keyword and sample book. Fabric categories range from solids, stripes and plaids to contract and earth-friendly fabrics.

Visitors to the site will be able to access the latest inventory, frequent web-based sales and take advantage of its popular same-day shipping of fabric orders and quarter-yard samples.

The company also released four color books earlier this year featuring an earth-friendly fabrics produced by North Carolina manufacturer Valdese. This collection of fabrics is made using 100-percent recycled polyester warps.

To meet the earth-friendly criteria, the fabrics must meet several specifications including the use of environmentally safe and healthy materials, design for material reutilization (recycling and composting), the use of renewable energy and energy efficiency, efficient use of water, and maximum water quality associated with production and instituting strategies for social responsibility.

Valdese utilizes dyes that eliminate the need for acetic acid and their dying process minimizes pollutants and reduces water and energy consumption. They re-use hot water from dye baths to preheat new dye cycles and return it to the municipal system cleaner than it arrived.

Sharon Fuller of Ma'at Youth Academy Honored as 2004 Woman of the Year for State of California's 14th Assembly District

Sharon Fuller of Ma'at Youth Academy Honored as 2004 Woman of the Year for State of California's 14th Assembly District

East Bay native and environmentalist Sharon Fuller chosen as California's 14th assembly district's "Woman of the Year."

Richmond, CA (PRWEB) March 24, 2004

East Bay native and environmentalist Sharon Fuller was honored by Lieutenant Governor Cruz M. Bustamante as California's 14th Assembly District's "Woman of the Year" during an awards ceremony at the State Capitol in Sacramento last Monday. Bustamante cited Fuller's "Exemplary work in the Golden State's greater communityÂ…with appreciation and respect for (her) tremendous achievements as one of the extraordinary women of California."

Assemblywoman Loni Hancock, who represents the East Bay in the State Assembly, nominated Fuller for this special commendation for her achievements and community service resulting from her ongoing youth advocacy in the community and her work as the founder and director of the MaÂ’at Youth Academy (MYA). MYA is a community-based environmental organization in Richmond dedicated to a safer, cleaner, healthier environment for children and youth which ultimately seeks to build community capacity in communities of color and low-income areas to significantly reduce public exposure to environmental hazards.

Assemblywoman Hancock commented, "I was very pleased to select Sharon Fuller as my nominee for Woman of the Year. She stands out as a unique educator because her innovative program accomplishes so many different things. Not only is she training the next generation to help make our communities healthier and safer, but she is also ensuring that more of our urban youth finish high school well-prepared for college level science and math courses. Her students gain a full appreciation for the complex environmental issues low-income areas and communities of color face and she empowers them with the knowledge to create solutions."

In response to receiving this coveted award, Fuller remarked “I am extremely honored by this award and appreciative of the recognition of my efforts and environmental education and advocacy programs that, in concert with environmental initiatives championed by Assemblymember Loni Hancock, strive to improve the quality of life in all communities.”

Currently under Fuller’s direction, MYA high school interns are conducting the Fish Consumption Study for Women and Children designed to investigate the health effects of consuming San Francisco Bay fish contaminated with elevated levels of methlymercury. According to Fuller, "While environmentally-related illnesses are increasing, the harmful physical and mental effects of these illnesses are often overlooked in discussions on education and social inequality. A correlation between developmental problems and where a child lives, learns and plays does exist and exposure to mercury, a neurotoxin, is a major concern for our community which has a large subsistence fishing population.”

Established by Fuller in 1994, MYA helps empower communities by actively involving youth and residents in local investigations and community workshops, developing and disseminating culturally relevant educational material, and partnering with school district, universities, governmental agencies, community-based organizations and residents. This nationally recognized Academy brings curricula that focus on urban ecology and environmental health to public schools in communities of color and low-income areas throughout Contra Costa and Alameda counties. As part of its mission, MYA links urban high school students to hands-on environmental education and community action.

Fuller, a life-long resident of Richmond, earned a B. S. degree in Conservation and Resource Studies from UC Berkeley and a M. S. degree in Environmental Education from CSU Hayward. She is a Contra Costa County Hazardous Materials Commissioner and a member of the Point Molate Restoration Advisory Board. Fuller dedicates her award in memory of her mother Dolores S. Jackson, a retiree from the West Contra Costa Unified School District, who devoted her life to ensuring all children have access to quality education.

Searching for a Sustainable Soda, an Eco-Friendly Energy Drink, or a Natural Juice? Greenopia Updates its Green Beverage Guide

Searching for a Sustainable Soda, an Eco-Friendly Energy Drink, or a Natural Juice? Greenopia Updates its Green Beverage Guide

Greenopia today updated its extensive green beverage ratings research project published last year on its popular website, www. greenopia. com. The study highlights which soda, juice, and energy drink brands are the greenest.

Santa Barbara, CA (PRWEB) March 30, 2010

Greenopia (http://www. greenopia. com) today updated its extensive green beverage ratings research project published last year on its popular website, www. greenopia. com]. The study highlights which soda, juice, and energy drink brands are the greenest.

The most eco-friendly beverages widely available to Americans are varieties bottled by Honest Tea (http://www. greenopia. com/USAbeverages_listing. aspx? ID=19&input=Name-or-product&Listpage=0) of Bethesda, MD. Honest Tea was the only mass-distributed, retail beverage to earn the coveted Greenopia 4-Leaf Rating. Rounding out the top 3 were Steaz (http://www. greenopia. com/USA/beverages_listing. aspx? ID=6&input=Name-or-product&Listpage=0) and Santa Cruz Organic Sodas (http://www. greenopia. com/USA/beverages_listing. aspx? ID=7&input=Name-or-product&Listpage=0).

"We are thrilled to be included again in Greenopia's Green Beverage Guide," said Eric Schnell, Co-founder of Steaz. "As a company, we are committed to producing the best tasting, organic beverages on the planet while inspiring, educating, and empowering our customers and community through our commitment to organics, Fair Trade, and proactive environmentalism. Greenopia's recognition of our efforts to continually reduce our environmental impact means so much to our team and is another step forward in building a healthier world."

The beverage ratings project used Greenopia's popular 4-Leaf rating system to disclose the environmental impact and health-effect characteristics of 23 of America's most popular mass-market beverages. This was an independent study conducted by Greenopia's Research Staff using an extensive list of test criteria including beverage container, ingredient analysis including product toxicity, supply chain, sustainability reporting, green building design initiatives, and history of environmental violations. The criteria data were gathered, calculated, and analyzed using Greenopia's proprietary lifecycle eco-cost methodology.

Sales leaders Coke scored a 2-Leaf Rating while competitor Pepsi earned a Greenopia 1-Leaf Rating. What is interesting are the distinct ways each major beverage has approached sustainability. Coke seems to be focusing on its supply chain and packaging, whereas Pepsi is strongest in its logistics. By contrast, Dr. Pepper scored a zero Greenopia Leaf Rating.

“The beverage industry is fascinating because its one of the rare examples where the major brands have a distinct advantage environmentally,” said Doug Mazeffa, Greenopia’s Research Director. “For the most part, major brands like Coke and Pepsi are the only ones who have access to special resource saving technologies and can afford to research and implement greener containers.”

The beverage ratings are available online for free. Greenopia provides its award-winning research metrics and information to green businesses and merchants allowing them to reach green consumers using a range of targeted marketing methods.

About Greenopia: The leading online directory for green, sustainable and socially conscious, daily purchase decisions. Greenopia provides the market's only independent, scientific-based rating methodology for green services and products. To find out more, please visit www. greenopia. com.

Spice Up Your Holidays With Random Acts of Malice

Spice Up Your Holidays With Random Acts of Malice

Liaison Press and Happy Woman Magazine are pleased to announce the birth of Random Acts of Malice.

VANCOUVER, CANADA (PRWEB) November 24, 2005 -–

What do your eyebrows say about you? If you're a man, you couldn't care less. If you're a woman, you undoubtedly recognize the question as a women's magazine headline.

If you care about the answer to that question, stop reading now because Random Acts of Malice: The Best of Happy Woman Magazine, the newest title from Liaison Press takes the women's magazine genre and twists it like a bleached blonde tress around a perm rod. With satirical articles like "The Sheep Shearer's Workout" "Raising Your Ungifted Child" and "Celine Dion Pumpkin Stencil" Random Acts of Malice spoofs relationship issues, do-it-yourself projects, beauty tips, and celebrity interviews – all without chipping a nail.

"I was bored with the fluff offered by women's magazines in the guise of substance," said the anthology's editor, Sharon Grehan-Howes. "Several years ago, I picked up a copy of a woman's magazine, took the compatibility quiz and the health assessment, and then I came across an article called 'What Your Eyebrows Say About You.' It was the final straw. I thought, 'I can handle being unlovable, fat and bald, but I will not have any facial hair talking bad about me behind my back…right in front of my face.'"

Grehan-Howes subsequently launched Happy Woman Magazine, with the tagline "We think so you don't have to." Since its launch in May, 2000, the e-zine has garnered popular and critical praise:

"Devilish wit" – USA Today  "A welcome oasis" – The Globe and Mail  "With satire like this, who needs mascara?" – Yahoo Internet Life Magazine, Best and Worst Issue  "Politely vicious satire" – The Vancouver Sun  "Do these pants make my thighs look fat?" – Joan Smythe, confused reader

Random Acts of Malice collects the best articles from the first five years of Happy Woman Magazine. It makes the perfect gift for women who love to laugh but don't really care what their eyebrows are saying about them. The book is available at better bookstores everywhere.

Review copies of the book are available by request, and individual contributors are available for interviews. Contact Editor Sharon Grehan-Howes for more information.

Sharon Grehan-Howes, originally an improvisational comedian, trained at The Second City Toronto and has performed at all major and minor (very minor) comedy clubs in the city and surrounding areas. She has appeared in short films, television, provided voices for cartoons, and was a teacher at The Improv School. Her short fiction has appeared in various magazines, and her column "Jenna's Diary" was serialized in The Monitor. Sharon is currently at work on a fourth book because she doesn't have time to do a second or third. She lives in Toronto with her husband, Wynn, and George and Lyle, professional cats.

CGP is a Canadian small press publisher of specialty eBooks and certain print titles. Together with its non-fiction and coordinating imprint, Liaison Press, CGP intends to remain a vital member of the small press community, and challenge the public perception of what defines a book. Sunscreen That's Always Been Green

Sunscreen That's Always Been Green

While recent fashion trends have mainstreamed "Green" materials and manufacturing practices, protecting the environment has always been an integral part of the UV Skinz corporate conscience.

San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) May 30, 2008

If protecting delicate skin from the damaging effects of the sun isn't enough to convince consumers to cover up this summer, UV Skinz is happy to provide yet another compelling incentive. UV Skinz UPF 50+ protective swim shirts and outdoorwear line has been around since 2005 and the products have been environmentally-friendly from the start.

UV Skinz swim shirts protect wearers from the devastating effects of the sun while also protecting the environment from the potentially devastating effects of human interaction. The human protection factor is in the tight nylon/spandex weave of the fabric that blocks out 98% of harmful UV rays. The environmental protection factor can be attributed to the lack of chemicals in UV Skinz products. "UV Skinz swim shirts are free of harsh chemicals that can not only irritate sensitive skin…" says Skinz founder, Rhonda Sparks, "…but also, over time, and especially in marine locations with heavy tourist traffic, cause damage to sensitive animal and plant life." Sparks goes on to say that "while our main goal is to keep babies, children and adults UV damage-free, we've always been proud that our products play a part in protecting the outdoor environs in which we love to play."

UV protective clothing can provide up to 50+ UPF protection which translates to a 98% block of harmful UV rays according to the Australian Radiation Lab which provides UPF fabric testing services. Australia has pioneered the sun protective clothing industry in response to the country's highest skin cancer rates in the world. Garments are subjected to strict testing standards which factor in weave, color darkness, weight, elasticity and moisture content. Tighter weaves, darker colors, heavier weights, less elasticity and fabrics that wick moisture provide better protection.

While UV Skinz has a global outlook on minimizing environmental impact, the heart of its operations has small-town grassroots. UV Skinz was started in large part as an effort by a committee comprised of Sparks' family and close friends. Sparks is a successful entrepreneur in the telecommunications industry who started the UV protective swimwear company out of a desire to protect her young sons from suffering the same fate as their 32-year old father, Darren Lee Farwell, who succumbed to skin cancer after battling the disease for several years. Mr. Farwell lived an active outdoor lifestyle and was sure that the years of sun damage contributed to his melanoma diagnosis. Sparks has built the company's foundation on producing products that allow consumers to both enjoy and preserve the outdoor venues in which they live without being concerned about skin damage from both UVA and UVB rays.

Many consumers do not know that sunscreen SPF ratings only measure UVB protection from sunburns but do not necessarily reflect protection from UVA rays which are more deeply penetrating, causing damage to skin's connective tissue. UVA rays contribute to the development of skin cancer and are the primary causes of premature aging. Wearing UV protective clothing in combination with UV protective hats, sunglasses and the correct use of sunscreen is the best defense against sun damage when living an active lifestyle or when prolonged sun exposure is unavoidable.

The new UV Skinz swim shirt 2008 Spring line was just announced and in response to never-ending feedback from her customers, Sparks has expanded the line to include skirts, boardshorts and reversible bucket hats. The whimsical new designs range from cool butterflies to camo sharks to koi sleeves and other nature-inspired designs that are very much a reflection of the company's celebration of the outdoors.

UV Skinz produces hip, high quality UPF 50+ outdoorwear for babies, kids and adults. After UV Skinz founder, Rhonda Sparks, lost her 32-year old husband to skin cancer, she made it her mission to get babies, kids and adults covered from the potentially harmful dangers of the sun. UV Skinz is also committed to taking every opportunity to promote awareness of and education about skin cancer. UVskinz. com offers information and links for the health conscious consumer interested in finding out more on how to fight skin cancer.

If you'd like more information on this topic, or would like to schedule an interview with Rhonda Sparks, please call Sarah Owsley at 877/887-5469 or e-mail sarah(at)uvskinz. com.
